In the Mood for Persian Food -- Book 2
I found book 2 to be a nice complement to book 1. I've triedother Iranian cooking books, but they weren't nearly as good as thisone. My Iranian friend agrees and enjoyed the recipes as much as I did. I highly recommend this book.

Easy Cooking
I found the recipes so easy to follow. The ones I tried were so yummy. Very satisfying and delicious. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

In the Mood for Persian Food
The recipes in this book were easy to prepare. I found many tasty low fat recipes for yogurt, stuffed vegetables, salads, rice dishes and egg dishes. The step by step directions on how to prepare Basmati rice were so simple that I could never go back to instant rice again!

Completely engaging
I loved this book and cannot wait for the next in the series! Beluga Stein is the person we all wish we could be, totally unafraid to be herself and totally unwilling to apologize for it. Her friends and the other characters in the book are eccentric but believable, as is the fact that a cat can be a familiar and ghosts can be real. The plot is completely engaging and the book such an easy read that you find yourself wishing it would go on. Thank goodness there will be more to come, based on the excerpt from the next book in the back.
Certainly Beluga Stein will achieve stature equal to the other beloved, eccentric detectives such as Ms. Marple and Hercule Poirot.

a sharp beginning to what will surely be a great series
Beluga Stein is funnier than Hercule Poirot, sharper than Miss Marple, and looks better in a tent-sized frock than Sherlock Holmes. Of course, she *does* have some help from her wonderful cat--a talented, opinionated beastie who makes a perfect familiar to this wonderful new detective.

In short, this is a great read. One part ghost story, one part mystery, and one part marvelous writing -- which all adds up to a fast-paced, entertaining tale that will make you wish there was more of Beluga to love.

Macroeconomics and the Wage Bargain: A Modern Approach to Employment, Inflation, and the Exchange Rate
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (1990)
Authors: Wendy Carlin and David Soskice
Amazon base price: $42.00
Average review score:

the best book on (macro)economics I've ever read !
Ten years ago, by coincidence, I saw this book. I bought it, and since then I have recommended it to all my colleagues.
At that time, the book was new and contained all the most recent developments in the journals (it ends with hysteresis - well explained and at that moment a brand new topic in the journals).
But what I find more important is that this is the only book I read where all those journal-stuff was fitted into a coherent frame-work; for the first time I really understood what macro-economics (and their micro foundations) was all about.
Up till then, I had seen only fragmented pieces of macro theory and here these authors came with a coherent view, which would have taken myself years to fit together, and I was sorry that this was not the handbook I had at university.
I don't follow-up this field anymore, and the book has not been updated anymore since then (a pity I think) but I write this review out of gratitute for the insights the authors gave me: I finally realized that in this book all the pieces were fitted together and allowed me to really understand macro-economics.
Personally, I can only recommend it.

The best macroeconomics book for open economies.
Most of the textbooks in macroeconomics (Blanchard, Mankiew and Gordon) focus on basic IS-LM and AS-AD models which are useless in open economies. This book is perfect upgrade for everybody who has read basic macroeconomics textbooks and wants to go further. There is economic history review, everithing is based on imperfect labour markets and salter-swan diagram is perfectly implemented in standard macroeconomics tools together with IS-LM model.

A book on relevant economic theory
One of the best macroeconomics textbooks in the market.First of all it contains an excellent chronological survey of models. But above all, its approach based on wage bargain and mark-up pricing has great relevance in terms of real world phenomena, in contrast to most mecroeconomic textbooks based in the unrealistic competitive model. The main contribution is to set an scenario for a feasible and intelligent social negotiation and for economic policy, instead of definitive "natural" outcomes of economic performance. I hope the authors keep on updating this book

Yeah, good little read for all you love sick teens out there
I feel like such a dork reading Love Story books and usually they are quick little fun reads I can finish in a couple of hours. This book has a cliche plot but I really like it and it's my fave of the series so far. What I liked so much about it was how the author handled the emotions of all the characters. I like getting into everyone's head. The plot went at a good pace and the cliff hangers at the end of the chapters kept it moving. There weren't any easy decisions for the love triangle, but as usual, everything works out in the end. But could of used a cuter cover boy! :)

This book is a real page turner. You can't put it down!
I thought this was a great book. It really shows how important a friendship is, but how once you find your soul mate you can't let them go.It has a great ending! Each character learns something from this novel and love teaches them all a valuable lesson!

I really liked it.
Here's what was so good about the book...the characters actually seem realistic and they have to struggle to do what's right! Jeremy doesn't expect to fall in love with Liv, his best friend, Patrick's girlfriend. But when he does, everything gets messed up and he might even lose his friendship with Patrick. You get to hear Jeremy and Liv's versions of what is happening between them...and believe me, it's interesting

Funny, surreal, original, time worth spending
I laughed the whole way through this book. I needed to read just one a day and let it reverberate in my mind. I was trying to save the stories for an upcoming vacation, but each day I gave into the temptation to read one more. I found myself thinking "yes, exactly!" even during parts of the stories that were surreal. They were somehow "right" in the same way that a bizarre dream can seem right; it only seems odd when you begin to describe it to someone else.

superb
this is an important and eloquent collection, from one of the finest young short story writers in the land.

Very cool, wonderful, groovy stories
This book is so amazing-- funny, witty, super intelligent-- and ultimately so moving. I really was swept up in it. Her characters (even the squirrels) all have incredibly rich and complicated reactions to events-- interpreting them in utterly private and sometimes hilarious ways. I don't think I've ever read a book of stories that sustained such a high pitch of intelligence and emotion. This is a writer who has listened to the culture, and has found it not wanting, but complicated and full-blooded and emotional and fascinating.

Queen Silver : The Godless Girl (Women's Studies (Amherst, N.Y.)
Published in Hardcover by Prometheus Books (1999)
Authors: Wendy McElroy and Queen Selections Silver
Amazon base price: $33.00
Average review score:

An invaluable book
She was a brilliant child lecturer, an incorrigible brat, a devoted freethinker, and a lifelong feminist. Queen Silver is one of those people that should be presented in any high school civics class (if such things still exist).

McElroy has given readers a book that can be appreciated on different levels. It can be read as a straightforward biography, detailing not only Queen's life but that of her mother, Grace Vaughn Silver, socialist lecturer and union advocate, who was the dominant figure in Queen's life. At 17, Grace left an abusive home with 5.00 in her pocket and the determination never to be anyone's slave. Ten days after giving birth to Queen, the pair resumed the lecture circut and Queen's life of freethought and self-education began.

This book also serves as a valuable collection of lectures and essays, illustrating Queen's diverse interests. These writings cover a wide variety of subjects, from the lesser known subversive works of Mark Twain to one of the earliest explorations of the Salem Witch Trials.

McElroy has written an engaging history of one of America's more intriguing subversives.

An astounding story of an authentic child prodigy.
When she was just eight a little girl with an odd name delivered six astounding public lectures on Darwin and Einstein. A child prodigy, Queen Silver was a feminist at a very early age and in later years worked to further women's rights. This biography examines her life and times, her achievements, and her strengths. An astounding survey of a young girl's early public awareness and social strengths.

Wendy McElroy makes me wish I had met Queen Silver
Wendy McElroy is one of this century's most brilliant women. She writes better than almost everybody else. More, what she writes about is so seldom dealt with intelligently or even rationally, and she does both beautifully. Her friendship with Queen Silver is worthy of a book itself, since the two disagreed about almost all the fundamentals: Queen was a socialist, Wendy is a libertarian. But both shared a love for an open society and freedom of speech, and a love for honor and honesty that seems almost absent from modern politics, among other things. Queen Silver was a major participant in a turbulent era, and Wendy McElroy has done her proud, and has done us, her readers, a major service with this fascinating and very personal history.

Deadly secrets and evil intentions
Three years ago she awoke naked in a brass bed to man claiming to be her husband. He says her name is Kristen Harris and she was eluding police when they met. Supposedly, a boating accident resulted in her amnesia. Her husband Salvador Maland radiates danger and unpredictability, and she is terrified of him. So late one night Kristen takes her small daughter and flees the so called island paradise. With a picture of a man called Blu Dufray, Kristen begins her quest for her true identity.

At twenty-five, the man nicknamed Blu Devil is the youngest fishing fleet owner in Algiers. When a nun pulls a gun on him, demands information from him, commands him to strip, then leaves him lying on a brick courtyard, Blu vows to find her. He doesn't know that she had hoped he would recognize her. The woman he nicknames Angel turns up much quicker than he anticipates, however, when Blu finds her hiding in a building he owns. Intrigued by Angel's story, he promises to help her find answers. He especially wants to know why a man like Salvador Maland, someone he doesn't know, has pictures of him.

Through the French Quarter and into the Louisiana bayou country Blu and Kristen pursue deadly answers. Blu finds himself mesmerized by this desperate woman seeking her identity. Blu quickly realizes that Salvador had used drugs to control Kristen's memory, and that she is also much younger than she had been led to believe. With her child carefully hidden, now she must believe in her instincts and put her trust in a devil if she wishes to stay alive.

Author Wendy Rosnau pens a remarkable suspense with THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LAW. Drug induced amnesia results in a fresh plot that culminates in a desperate, surprising conclusion. Dangerous information and a network of deadly crimes keep the tension tight as secrets are unveiled. Kristen proves herself to be remarkably resourceful and resolutely strong as she comes to understand the past and the evil that has manipulated her. The Blu Devil brings his own dangerous charm and unforgiving past to the tale, underscoring the deadly game they play. Kristen and Blu prove the beauty of love when it's on THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LAW. Very highly recommended.

deserves more than five stars!!!

Kristen Harris escapes a horrible situation & is desperate to recover her memory. With very little to go on she makes her way to New Orleans, looking for the man in a picture she possesses, hoping he will be able to help her.

Blu DuFray has worked hard to keep his fleet of shrimp boats afloat since his father's death. He is well known for his unsavory exploits as well as having been hired muscle. A year ago Blu's slighty shady past takes a turn for the better after he helps bust an illegal child slavery ring in Algiers which brands him a media hero.

When Blu meets Kristen he can not resist helping her & protecting her. And even though Blu tries hard to appear tough, Kristen uncovers his inate goodness.

This book has been long awaited for me & it was well worth the wait. This is the sequel of A YOUNGER WOMAN Apr '01, the story of Blu's sister Margo in which he was first introduced. From that time I had high expectations for Blu's story & I was not disappointed. This book kept me turning the pages eagerly from start to finish. It is a captivating keeper!!

Secrets of the Ice Ages: The Role of the Mediterranean Sea in Climate Change
Published in Paperback by Glenjay Publishing (01 August, 2002)
Authors: Robert G Johnson, Wendy a Skinner, and Robert G. Johnson
Amazon base price: $24.75
Average review score:

GOOD READ EVEN FOR A LAYMAN
Robert Johnson has logically written the facts to show a new ice age may be coming. Althoughh written in a scientific manner, as a layperson I found this to be a fascinating read.

Gutsy Geoscience
Johnson makes geological predictions about our Earth-biosphere's future habitability, especially its Northern Hemisphere. Recent data showing that the Gulf Stream is only responsible for 20% of western Europe's milder-than-equal-latitude-Canada's means that his theory is even more applicable! Hold onto your copy of this well-written text, amply illustrated and diagramed, for a decade or so....One way, or the other, he'll be proved adept in Geoscience, I think.

For anyone with a keen interest in meteorology
Written by Robert G. Johnson (Adjunct Professor, Department of Geology and Geophysics, University of Minnesota) a man who has devoted himself to the professional study of ancient climate variations, Secrets Of The Ice Ages: The Role Of The Mediterranean Sea In Climate Change is a meticulous and scientific study of just how the Mediterranean Sea has influenced ice ages in the past, and how it might affect Earth's climate in the future. Exhaustive data and analysis are presented in this college-level treatise. Secrets Of The Ice Ages is very highly recommended for anyone with a keen interest in meteorology and the natural history of climate changes.
