Book Overview
It's been a while since I remember reading the book. I was a very reluctant reader, but once I got into it, I enjoyed it. The book starts off with a girl who gets into a car accident which changes her life. Very worth reading.

When Will I Read?
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Author: Miriam Cohen
Amazon base price: $12.25
Average review score:

Great book for teachers!
Miriam Cohen explores what it means to "be a reader" through her delightful class of first graders. Jim wonders when he will learn to read. His holistic teacher points out to him that he is already reading many things such as familiar books, classroom signs and so on. As young children enjoy reading (or listening) about Jim's exploration, they also are learning about reading and what it means to be a reader. This book helps children understand that reading is developmental and depends on the social context. A great book for Pre-K to 1st graders. I use it with a unit called "I Can Read" that helps children appreciate their early reading abilities. Also a good choice for older children who are working with young readers as reading buddies or partners. This book is also a good choice for open house or parent meetings- to help anxious first grade parents to relax. If you haven't read any of the other books in this series, check them out too!

Whence the Goddesses
Published in Paperback by Elsevier Science Ltd (June, 1990)
Author: Miriam R. Dexter
Amazon base price: $18.95
Used price: $3.99
Average review score:

An invaluable resource...
This is one of the best books on the subject, due not only to the author's immense and wide-ranging scholarship but also to her clear and accessible writing. Many books on the goddess focus only narrowly, usually on Greek and/or Roman goddesses, but Whence the Goddesses shows the breadth and depth of human awareness of the feminine divine. I was especially grateful for the many translations of literature addressed to or describing the goddess. A lovely and useful work.

This book really is very sweet. We all went through this wobbly tooth thing as kids and ol' Mockler's illustrations are superb. She won't mind me calling her that - we both trained as teachers together and she is a true star. A wonder girl she is!!. Keep it up and good luck with all the work, kid.

One to keep on the shelf!
I very much enjoyed reading Triona and Ronan's story. The tension between the characters throughout the book was understandable and warrants you to just jump in the book and shake some sense into the characters!

6-month old Triona was found in the arms of her dead Norman mother in the middle of the forest.(sniffles)Fineen O'Toole finds her and adopts her as his own daughter knowing that a Norman clan wants her dead. She grew to adore her brother Conor and his friend Ronan O'Byrne, until she finds that her godbrother, knowns now as Black O'Byrne, was the cause of Conor's death! She grows to detest Ronan even more when she finds that her father made Ronan her guardian!

Ronan O'Byrne was the godson of Fineen. He remembers seeing Triona as a lovable 8 summers old little girl with beautiful green eyes. Fineen, in his deathbed, makes Ronan vow to become Triona's guardian. To appease Fineen Ronan vows to him that he will take Triona. He thought he was going to find a docile young woman that would do his bidding.(yea right) He didn't know that Triona grew to be a wild hellion bent on defying him at every turn with skills that would match any of his clansmen.

With life changing secrets and heart-wrenching guilt holding both Ronan and Triona captive, their love is slow to bloom. It was captivating to watch the two begin to trust eachother and watch the love that was always there bloom to its fullest. Triona's wild defiance and Ronan's stubborn insensitivity threaten to keep them apart and also the secrets from their past.

An enticing novel with deep feelings and thoughts, vulnerabilities and misunderstandings. I'm looking forward to reading another novel by Minger. I know I will be reading "Wild Angel" again.

Superb natural history of Wickow with excellent photos.
I bought this book for some hill-walking friends of mine who live in Dublin, Ireland. They loved it. It's full of great detail about the natural history and environmental concerns in County Wicklow and includes alot of really excellent photos.

If you're thinking of taking a holiday in Ireland, I'd recommend buying this book.
