Video Production: A Basic Guide

Awesome guide.
This guide is comprehensive and the only book out on the market that really showed me how to make a video. It also explains how to buy a camcorder and the different formats--the difference between Hi-8 and VHS, as well as digital still cams and digital camcorders. I recommend this guide most highly!

I Didn't Know [Nothin'] Before Reading The Guide
I was actually afraid to use my video camcorder. This book encouraged me to shoot a real program. It was easy to read and understand. I really liked the sections on video awareness and composition. And the chapters on how to buy a camcorder and accessories are outstanding. I have progressed from a true beginner to a "semi-pro". Watch out Steven Spielberg. And thank you Miriam S. Jersky for writing this book. I highly recommend it to everyone who has a camcorder. Or is about to buy one.

My love for the Amish
I love this book,it is my favorite of all the her stories. It was the first one that I read 6 to 7 years ago. Since that time I have read everyone of her books, except for this last one that I just found. It was this book that started me on reading all these Amish books. Went on to read all of Borntrager series, plus Beverly Lewis books. Again I`ve read all hers except the last two which one I am starting now. I have nothing but pure raves for all of Carrie Benders books. Read them you will surely enjoy, happy reading.

GREAT! GREAT! GREAT!
I have read all five of Mariam's Journals and enjoyed them all. I felt like I was part of her family.Carrie Bender done an excellent job. I like to hear about the Omnish People. Their beleif is similar to mine.Great job, Carrie Bender

Very helpful and fast read for new mothers
I got this book from the library and found it to be so helpful that I decided to buy a copy of my own. The instructions are clear and very simple, and also the book shows you what to do using pictures. It goes into how to breast and/or bottle feed without the huge lectures and guilt trips for mothers who decide to bottle feed. It doesn't include every aspect of child care but it's gives the new mom a very good start. It also helps that the book is short and very inexpensive. Makes a great shower gift, especially for the giver who is short on cash.

A Terrific Reference in a Small Package
I was surprised to find no reviews of this book. After the birth of our first child, we received this as a gift and although this reference was a small paperback, it was so full of information I referred to it frequently. The photographs are terrific and this book is an excellent primer for any new parent who wants more information on how to manage the newborn phase of life. I highly recommend it.

Addiction: The high that brings you down
Overall I thought this book was very informative but more importantly, this book exemplified reality. Too often drug abuse is misinterpreted by many on account of generalized stereotypes, scare tactics and inaccurate information, this book refrained from all of the above. Also this book is directed towards the adolescent reader and as a result, puts many complicated physiological terms and processes in to comprehendable reading material (without losing or misconstruing the definition or meaning). I think this book did an amazing job at explaining the facts and consequences of drug use. This is the kind of book that should be incorporated somehow into the high school education curriculum.

Alexander the Great and Ancient Greece (Rulers and Their Times)
Published in Library Binding by Benchmark Books (January, 2000)
Author: Miriam Greenblatt
Amazon base price: $28.50
Average review score:

Both a biography of Alexander and an intro to Greek life
As the title sort of indicates, "Alexander the Great and Ancient Greece" is really two books in one. In the first part Miriam Greenblatt provides a biography of Alexander the Great subtitled "A Passion for Glory," that tells how the young prince of Macedonia ended up conquering most of the "known" world. What impressed me was one detail that stands out in Greenblatt's narrative: she tells two different versions of how Alexander dealt with the Gordian Knot, pointing out that "Both tales fit his personality." That was the point at which she sold me on the value of her biography. This section is illustrated with paintings and mosaics from ancient times to modern, focusing on the legendary figure of Alexander.

The second part, covering "Everyday Life in Ancient Greece," is really separate from the first. Greenblatt covers the religion, games, theater, and education of the Greeks, as well as the elements of everyday life such as food, drink, hairstyles, cosmetics, and clothes. Like the first, this second part could stand on its own as an introduction to what it was like to be living in Ancient Greece, although certainly I would like to see what Greenblatt would do with the same topic and twice the number of pages. I have read books devoted entirely to this topic that are not as good. This part is illustrated with a dozen pictures taken from ancient urns and pottery that I always find absolutely captivating. This volume also offers up a third part, "The Greeks in Their Own Words," which includes excerpts from Homer's epic poem the "Iliad," Euripides's tragic play "The Trojan Women," a Aesop's fable and Aristotle's "Politics." Overall, I think the first part of "Alexander the Great and Ancient Greec" is pretty good, but that the second part is even better.

of some interest
In many ways, this is a disappointing book. Predictable in its attempt to create a 'scathing' rebuttal to the hideous 'Bell Curve', this book offers little to anyone versed in the incredible variety of contemporary feminist discourse. For those prepared for some *real* thinking, try more transgressive/radical voices, such as Patricia Williams, bell hooks, Mary Daly, and many others; also, see various radical works related to Lacan. The Assault on Equality is simply too simple, a statement of the obvious racism and stupidity of Charles Murray et al., and it cannot be said to contribute orginial thinking on the issue of race. Feminists in particular will find this book a bit simple-minded. Well intentioned, but dull, even as the authors are trying to sound angry.

An excellent reference book
This is a great reference -text book- for anyone who wants to learn about the principles of interior decorating or interior design. From learning the elements of design, to being able to understand what defined the style or interior decor of an era. Lots pictures, illustrations and at the end of each chapter you can test your acquired knowledge by answering its questions and/or doing the hands-on-assignement. If you are serious about learning the ABC of decorating, this is the book for you.
