distinctive colleges, distinctive education, unusual, great
I wrote this guide for those of you out there who want to use your education to make a better world. The book features lots of unusual colleges and hard to find graduate programs - filled with hands-on experiential education, community-based learning, meaningful, relevant, career-oriented majors and more. You'll never learn about most of these colleges from your counselor or other guides. Do you want to go to an alternative college? THey're all here. A green college? A college concerned with peace or social justice? Little colleges on islands or innovative state colleges? These places offer exciting educational opportunities, a supportive atmosphere for someone who wants to make a difference. Most of them are friendly places for minority and gay students. Lots of outdoor based recreation too. Parents, these are just great colleges. Many of them are small, and so very good places to send your B or C students. These are character building places, with value-based education. There are Buddhist, Catholic, Presbyterian and other religiously affiliated colleges. Looking for a graduate program? This book includes programs from environmental law to community based medicine, non-profit management to sustainable development. It also lists the Peace Corps Masters Internationalist Programs. Introductory essays from Jeremy Rifkin, AmeriCorps, Marty Nemko (Cool Careers for Dummies) David Orr and more.

The Mandala Experience
The "Mandala" is a beautiful book of the many cultures that experience this sacred path. I followed the step by step process of the Mandala. It taught me how to meditate & become aware of the underlying intellegence. I reccomend this book to anyone in search of the truth of who they truly are. This is a form of meditation that opens doors to your Inner World.

The Hypertext of Our Collective Unconscious
"There is no complete probable," as Marguerite Young once wrote, but surely this provocative tribute more than hints at the genius of Marguerite Young and her lifelong approximation to reform the question of our essential aloneness: is there no completion to probability? -- the question that posits the why of the search for sense in this veil of tears we call life? Why splinter our complacent acceptance of binary reality, if not to form the question over and over, which can never be complete in its formulation, for the key is that there is no answer but the never-ending incantation of the probable, there is no absolute, as she says, "in lonely items of the real." The quest is the answer. The only answer. Miss Macintosh, My Darling, which I have been reading for the past 15 years, and arguably the greatest American fictive "realization" of this in the last half of the 20th century, is in actuality the greatest fictive approximation of the dreamworld we all share every night until that completion that takes us all: it is the hypertext of our collective unconscious, an imagining few writers have attempted to engage in fictive "items of the real." The artistry here is more than in the attempt: "but they had both already known the darkness." Marguerite Young was a beacon to that darkness... and knew. Thank you, Ms. Fuchs, for sharing with us memories of and tributes to this most remarkable human being.

This book is very informative and easy to read. A woman enters pre-menopause not knowing that such a stage in her life even exists. All symptons of each stage are listed and discussed with options for therapy from simple exercise to prescribed medicines. A beatiful book about childhood and tradition
I thought this was an extraordinary and fascinating book - very gentle, sad and insightful about the life of a child in an unhappy family, in particular a young girl in a traditional orthodox Jewish family - I'm astonished and rather depressed that it's already out of print - perhaps its message is too hard for the popular imagination. A beautiful book.

The Miriam Adahan Handbook: Living With Kids Parents at Their Best

Living With Kids
For anyone who understands that there is no greater endeavor than to raise (and even enjoy raising!)children, this book is a treasure. Typical of Dr. Adahan's honest approach to life challenge readers are reassured that while children are 'natural sabateurs of adult purposes' children are 100% 'a brocha--a blessing.' Down to earth, practical, inspiring, Living with Kids will prove a fast resource for specific child rearing techniques and for bright pick me ups highlighting the unqiue joys of the hardest responsibility in the universe! Replete with realistic everyday child/parent issues. We need a web site to share thoughts and experiences on this book. My only complaint is that it is too short to encompass the myriad of situations and feelings parenting involved. (How about a five hundred volume encyclopedia?} This highlights a special feature of this parenting book--it is written from a Jewish/Torah perspective. All too few parenting books acknowledge the truth that there are three partners in creating and raising children-Mom, Dad and G-d. Rememebering that third partner is the critical piece of this book and the whole parenting experience.

On Nantucket Indians/Genealogy sources
The service of this publisher is excellent. I highly recommend doing business with them through Ancestry.com, or directly. The book is a delight, although it is a novel, there are some real clues in here about Nantucket Indians, life on Nantucket for the time period etc. - I'm thrilled with it. Order this book if you are looking for stories on the indians, whaling on Nantucket etc.
I purchased it to find out more on my ancestors...

Great FIND.

Also another book is Abram's Eyes, that one too is excellent on the area.
