Sicilian Vegetarian Cooking: 99 More Recipes to Love

Yum! Food for a hot climate.
The recipes in this book remind me of summer. Most involve tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, or zucchini. Those are all best in season, but there are other recipes that can be used year-round. Appetizers, soups, pasta, rice, polenta, pizza, eggs, specialties, salads and desserts are included. I haven't tried them all, but I'm trying! Penne alla Norma, polenta-tomato pie, orzo-stuffed tomatoes, penne in hot pink sauce, etc. Many recipes are suitable for vegans, although quite a few call for cheese. Measurements are in English and metric.

Sicilian Cooking to Die For
John Penza out did himself. I bought this book when my husband was in the hospital after he had a heart attack. We both love anything Italian and I thought this would be worth a try. Wow! This is the book we leave on our cooking island. The recipes are simple yet full of flavor. I never knew "vegetarian" could be so good. We have tried about 50 of the recipes and everyone of them are great. We both cook and Doug loves to use this cookbook as much as I do. We love to sit down to a wonderful dinner with wine and candlelite in the evenings, after stressful work days, and 9 times out of 10 the recipes are from this wonderful book. The simple, flavorful tomato sauce has become a staple in our kitchen. I will certainly be on the lookout for more cookbooks by John Penza.

An inspiration
This is a book to read at bed time. Most of the chapters are short and prepare one for for good dreams. Miriam Therese Winter's faith, her spirit , her love of people, of God and the natural world make this book an inspiration, even for a Unitarian.

Mystical description of one person's spiritual journey
This book was music to the soul! I look forward to enjoying more works of this author since her work "The Singer and the Song" penetrated mind, heart and soul. As a OTR truck driver I now appreciate the beauty and grace that can be found just by getting in touch with nature, sounds, and silence. 5 stars for Miriam Therese Winter

Absolutely wonderful; I provide it to my substitutes
I've used it for years by putting it in my file for substitutes of my classes. I also recommend it to new teachers as a useful resource and very handy when all else fails. I'm now giving it to my daughter who is embarking on teaching.

Great source for cool lesson plans.
Freedman and Perl's Source for Substitutes is a great resource for short notice substitute situations. Rather than let the kids go wild and disrespect the sub, why not come in with a real lesson plan that is fun and rewarding

The Best Junior League Cookbook I've Seen
A friend gave this book to me as a gift and I have enjoyed every recipe I've tried. The selection is unique and not "show-offish" like so many of the League cookbooks are. These are easy to prepare, quick recipes for those of us in the real world who don't want recipes for entertaining, but rather an assortment of good meals for the every day mom who just wants to nurture her family. There is a huge selection here, (over 700 recipes) but my favorites were the "Chidrens' Favorites" and the "Desperate Gourmet" section. Planner in the back is good too. My mother-in-law likes to "read" cookbooks (as if they were novels) and never cooks from them. If you're one of those people, Ma says it's also great for armchair reading.

Very enjoyable! Finally, an all-around great cookbook!
This is the best cookbook I've ever seen! It is wonderfully organized with the best index I've found in any book. Recipes are indexed several different ways which makes locating them a snap. The party planning information is so helpful to figure out how much to make for how many people and the sample occasion menus are much more inventive than I would come up with on my own.

Thanks Jr. Service League of LaGrange, Georgia for such a wonderful book! It's so nice to find great recipes that use ingredients I have in the pantry!

A superb compendium of authentic Spanish cusine
Spanish Home Cooking: Cocina Casera Espanola is a superb compendium of authentic Spanish cusine drawn from the regions of Galicia, the Basque County, La Macnhacn, Catalunya, and more. The result of three years research and numerous on-site visitations, Miriam Kelen has produced an impressive, superbly illustrated, specialty cookbook that would grace the collection of any dedicated gourmet chef.

Delicious and Easy Recipes
This is a great book to own or give as a gift. I've made dozens of the recipes with much success. The food is simple, creative and full of flavor. The book contains stories and pictures that make this a very special cook book.

The Story of Rose O'Neill, An Autobiography
While this book is not a great literary work, it is a wonderful resource for the Rose O'Neill enthusiast. I found it to be the most comprehensive record of Rose O'Neill's life I have read to date. In her own words, Rose describes her upbringing in an extremely unconventional household by a mother and father, both well-read and educated, with a mutual interest in the arts. Her father wanted to make an "experiment" of her regarding her education and along with reading classic literature, listening to Irish stories of fairies and little people, he always provided her with sharp pencils and plenty of paper on which to draw.

Extensive information is provided on Rose's life including her first trip from New York to the family's new home at Bonniebrook, in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri, her marriages and her struggles to make the first Kewpie dolls.

After reading this book it is easy to understand why Rose became the woman and artist that she was. It covers her formative years, beginning her career as an illustrator at a very early age, to her novels, poetry, sculpture, and serious art.

A fascinating revelation of a sadly neglected genius.
Rose O'Neill was a household name in her long lasting hey-day, yet somehow managed to die in an obscure part of the Ozarks, alone and forgotten. A brilliant draughtsman, portraitist and humorist ,it was O'Neill's sad paradoxical fate to be known for her Kewpie creations as well as condemned to try and repeat their success over and over. Dr.Brunell's sensitive presentation of O'Neill's own words beautifully reveal the vibrant personality who enchanted the world with her unique personality as well as her artistic gifts.

Helpful AM, PM or in between!
Being sick is the WORST thing about being pregnant..it's certainly not very funny. The cartoons in this book really hit the nail on the head! Even if you are too sick to read, flip a page and you'll see your situation illustrated. Brilliant work. Every OB should be recommending this book from office visit #1..as well as very receptionist who answers the phone from a woman who is despite for an early appointment!

FULL OF PRACTICAL, TRULY HELPFUL ADVICE
IT IS RARE TO FIND SOMEONE WITH SUCH REMARKABLE INSIGHT INTO THE PLIGHT OF THE PREGNANT WOMAN WHO SUFFERS TERRIBLY FROM "MORNING SICKNESS". THE BOOK IS EASY TO READ AT A TIME WHEN ONE FINDS IT DIFFICULT TO CONCENTRATE. THE ILLUSTRATIONS HELPED ME FIND THE HUMOR IN A TOPIC I USUALLY DO NOT FIND VERY FUNNY. THE BOOK IS FULL OF SIMPLE YET USEFUL ADVICE. EVEN AFTER ALL THE HELPFUL HINTS I RECEIVED FROM FRIENDS AND RELATIVES, I STILL FOUND A PLENITUDE OF NEW ADVICE IN THIS WONDERFUL BOOK.

Makes abstract concepts easy to understand
My 13-year-old son, who has mild autism, just LOVES this book. With his difficulties in understanding the relatively abstract concepts involved in learning religion, it's been a little tough keeping him interested in learning this kind of material. This book, however, is very appealing to him, and he and I have read it together many, many times. This book is beautifully illustrated. The explanations of the commandments are in relatively simple language that he can easily understand, appreciate, and apply to his own life. A real winner!

Bringing the 10 Commandments to Life
The 10 Commandments can seem so remote to a young child. This book of gently textured illustrations and clear, simple text is a wonderful find. It presents the ancient story behind the commandments and then brings the commandments to life within the context of a modern Jewish child's everyday experience.

a well researched book which poses some interesting question
A good range of resources were used in this study. The author goes beyond the' them and us' stereotype of relationships in nineteenth century Ireland i.e. Protestant landlord v Catholic tenant, and explores the realities of life for people living on Otway estate in Templederry, Co.Tipperary

Adds a further dimension to Tipperary History
Miriam Lambe captures the activities and history of the life on the Castle Otway Estate from 1750-1853 in a manner rarely achieved by Historians.

The book is highly recommended if your ancestors came from Tipperary. The book gives a rare insight of life under the English landlord on an Irish Estate.

Tubes in My Ears: My Trip to the Hospital

Just the thing before & after surgery
My daughter had just turned 3 when she got tubes in her ears. Once we found out she was getting them, we asked the doctor's office for book suggestions, but they didn't have any. We found this one on Amazon and it was great help as we prepared. It's not exactly what happened that day to her, but it was very similar and she enjoyed telling us the differences as we read it afterwards.

This book was extremely helpful.
My three year old girl had tubes put in her ears a few weeks ago. We stumbled upon this book prior to her surgery. She read it over and over again. It became her favorite book for quite a while. There is no question that this book helped her prepare for this stressful event. The pictures and text manage to provide frank and detailed information about getting tubes without being frightening. Parents will probably want to preview the book prior to reading it to their child, in order to tailor/edit the book to the child's developmental level.

My wife and I would definitely recommend this to any family going through this process.
