Our Friend Mrs Goose.
Published in Library Binding by HarperCollins Children's Books (January, 1900)
Author: Miriam Clark, Potter
Amazon base price: $3.59
Collectible price: $74.99
Average review score:

As a child, more than 40 years ago, this was my favorite.
Mrs. Goose was such a dizzy, scatter-brained, yet funny character to me. There was always a surprise ending and you never knew what she would do or why she did it in the first place. I simply remember most all her stories as a child, and never tired of listening to them. When I read any of these to the children of today, they are equally amused and want to hear them again. Unfortunately, I have lost touch with my childhood original. I still spend hours looking for a copy in antique book stores.

A joy to read!
In my belief Miriam Minger is one of the most promising authors of Historical Romances nowadays. This is the second book I have read of hers and I truly loved it. The story centres around Zora - a beautiful Russian princess and Rurik a Viking warrior. Because of her sister's treachery Zora falls captive to a slave merchant and only Rurik's timly intervention saves her from sure ravishment. This book is very engrossing. I enjoyed every minute reading it and I definitely recommend it to anyone even though it is not one of Minger's latest books. The story is not one of those boring -love at first sight- ones. The two heroes will have to face quite a few adventures before they realize their true love towards each other. Very sensual.

Great Kit for Vacation Bible School!
I have chosen this kit to use for VBS at an Episcopal church. It comes with a planning guide, plus teacher guides for little kids, older kids and youth/adults. There are plenty of choices for crafts to go with each lesson. We were thrilled to find this program that is clearly bible based. No junky items have to be purchased with it (such as toys, baseball caps or special decorations - if you've been searching, you KNOW what I mean!). The materials you need can be easily found. Also comes with two game boards to use during group activities. It's a big plus to be able to include adults as well as kids so everyone can talk about what they learned. Although this product comes up in the 'book' list, it's a whole lot more!!!

A great vegetarian cookbook from the Bloodroot Collective
This is the third feminist vegetarian cookbook published by the Bloodroot Collective. There is a myth that vegetarian cooking is bland and therefore boring. The recipes from any books of this series quickly dispell that notion. This book is divided into sections by season, each section including soups, salads, and entrees. The recipes may all be meatless and often without dairy, but the results are very satisfying. The scope is international. A Russian soup called Chlodnik is one of the simplest and best recipes I've found for an quick summer soup. Their spinach pesto is another easy, satisfying dish. And a vegetarian version of Szekely goulash is a healthier take on a Hungarian classic which includes a wonderful, though rich cabbage strudel. Not all of the recipes are as easy as the ones I have mentioned, but you are likely to find some, if not many, that you will want to make over and over.

Positive News from Israel
With all the bad news coming out of Israel it is indeed a breath of fresh air to read Dr. Anita Jacobs' evocative book. She depicts women who can face many challenges, even living under the tyranny of terorist attacks. Anita's ability to bring these women to life is phenomenal.

The Prosperous Soul

Author: Miriam Hellman

Used price: $7.95

A Work of Lifechanging Impact
Miriam Hellman's ministry is not for the person who wants to remain static. Unlike what many books claim to do, this book will actually change your life--if you act on what you read. It is sure to change your thinking. It is not a work to be read as much as pondered and studied. It is not to be taken and believed just because of who wrote it, although the author is a first rate minister of the Gospel. It is a book that will cause you to investigate who you are and what you are doing from a framework of the Bible. Every paragraph is worth the price of the book and you will definitely receive something fresh and strong every time you read it--which you most likely will do more than once. It offers answers and questions while sounding a wake up call to reality and the success and victory that God has foreordained for you to have.

The Psychotherapy Maze a Consumers Guide to Getting in and Out of Therapy
Published in Hardcover by Jason Aronson (December, 1986)
Authors: Otto Ehrenberg and Miriam Ehrenberg
Amazon base price: $25.00
Used price: $1.13
Collectible price: $1.00
Average review score:

A wonderful guide to therapy for the layperson
This book is billed as a "consumer's guide to the ins and outs of therapy." The Ehrenbergs provide a frank, down-to-earth discussion of practical issues relating to psychotherapy. Most books on therapy are devoted to explaining various theoretical approaches. The Ehrengergs go far beyond that in their book. They tackle practical issues such as how to select a therapist, how to help make therapy work for you, and how to judge whether therapy is doing you any good. They also discuss mundane but important details such as fees, insurance, missed sessions, and emergency phone calls. The Ehrenbergs' goal is to make therapy less intimidating and mysterious. They succeed handsomely in this endeavor.

Not just for Michigan!
This beautiful book is a mini-course in design and the use of public spaces. From Europe through the Arts and Crafts Movement to modernism and children's gardens, Ms. Rutz connects Michigan's gardens to styles and traditions around the world. The stunning photographs--and there are often 4 on a page-- reinforce the text, showing connections between Michigan's showplaces and their roots.

Thirty four gardens in Michigan are highlighted, from the Grand Hotel Gardens on Mackinac Island to Marquette Prison, Kellogg headquarters, Dow Gardens, several colleges and universities, downtown Marshall and Holland, and Hills Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak. It is a virtual tour of the state of Michigan.

Even though I live on the west coast and may never see most of the spaces described, I have this book on the coffee table to enjoy when I need an escape from the clutter of my life. Turning the pages I visit Paris, Cranbrook Art Museum, Flint, and mansions around the world. I sometimes get inspired to try something new in my own backyard, but usually just relax and enjoy the hard work of others.

Read it for information--it is outdoor art history--or for relaxation, but don't think it is only for people in Michigan.
