truly jarring stories
For this tiny volume of stories, I feel most of all a frequent hunger to reread. This collection provides a fine introduction to Cortazar's writing, for those who do not want to dive into Hopscotch or The Blow-Up without evidence of the author's skill to turn tales. There are two stories in this volume that I utterly love. The one presents a rather twisted world of the late high school or early university years. Two brave students seek their teachers after hours and gain access to a nearly diabolical cabal. The characters uneasily force reactions to the curious, new circumstances. The other story, hauntingly memorable for me, I would rank among my favorite short stories. The violence of street gangs and political malcontents overlaps with the domestic life of a family attempting to nurse one of its own out of a coma. The boundary shared by the private and political in these stories is subtly and subversively sketched. The importance of some stability and justice in both realms, despite the incursions of the irrational and unjust, Cortazar communicates thoughtfully within stories that do not for a second wink disingenuosly or evoke the repugnance that some more abrasively political fictions and less gloriously delightful might.

A psychedelic trip through frighteningly probable,
each story in this book leaves your head spinning, forces you to put down the book and think

In the Don't blame anyone, the simple act of putting on a sweater becomes the ultimate nightmare, tension rising to an impossible level and releasing, "12 floors down"... This book is short, but on shouldn't rush reading through. Instead, one should sit still for a minute (or hour - or a day, for that matter) and think... Unreasonable Hours is a wonderfully eary description of 'it can happen to you'

A memorable tale of dispossession
I read this book twenty years ago. It has served as such a mental reference for me that I intend to read it again. In the past I have done this only with "Crime and Punishment" and "A Movable Feast", so it keeps good company.

Specifically, it is the story of an Italian mother and daughter chased from their town home by WWII. They retreat to less disputed hill territories and face all manner of hardship. What is so memorable is the study of the emotional effects of their dispossession. They struggle to maintain their dignity and civility, but their world has truly been turned upside down.

an excellent guide
The author discusses the history from the origins to the Unesco Nubian rescue in 1961. He writes about the various temples in Nubia, including Kalabsha, Beit al-Wali, Dakka, Amada, Derr and Qasr Ibrim. The temples of Ramses II and Nefertari are described in avid detail. Completed by beautiful photographs and useful maps, this is a much needed guide, essential for travelers.

Friendship is a tango.
Alberto is an alligator who loves to dance the tango with his friend, Tina. One day while dancing in the bathroom, Alberto is accidentally flushed down the toilet! When everyone in town panics about alligators in the sewers, only Tina knows what to do.

This incredibly funny story combines likeable characters and colorful illustrations. Readers will love the hilarious mix-up and the friendship shared by an alligator and a girl.

Angel's Kite/La Estrella de Angel
Since Alberto Blanco and Rodolfo Morales are so popular I feel almost sacrilegious saying this was not my favorite book, but it is a good one. It deserves more than a 4, but maybe not a 5. Why? Because the text is wordy and would lose most kids I know. And the art is not my type of art, but art is so personal. The story is about Angel who is sad that his town's church bell has disappeared, and how he gets it back for the people. This is a book worth buying, especially as a bilingual one for teaching both languages.

Understand data collection and applied behavior analysis
One of the best texts on Applied Behavior Analysis! It is extremely user friendly with lots of examples applicable to today's classroom. I've used several editions of this text...as a grad student, a classroom teacher, and now as a college professor. I would highly recommend it to any teacher (or future teacher) or any university instructor as a college text.
