This is a very PITHY and MEANINGFUL book.
This book is well known in China. It MAY be available directly from China. It tells the important story about how the changes in government policy impinge upon the lives of the people and espeically one woman who owns an inn. She has a special recipe for noodles; she sells the noodles and becomes wealthy under capitalism. BUT, capitalism becomes a CRIME after the communists take over. She is brought to trial as an ENEMY of the PEOPLE. Convicted, all her possessions are confiscated; she survives as a street sweeper in the town. After 20 years of suffering, the government policy changes to favor capitalism and entrepreneurship. She is reinstated but only after 20 years of hardship. It is a moving and important story. Email me if you wish to discuss this book. Thanks.

wonderful
A wonderful collection of letters from one year of a friendship between two long-time friends. A wonderful book to share with a great friend. I longed to be part of the world these two women share and grieved the realization that they have been dead for so long. The beauty they saw and shared, their loving pets, children, partners. I wished to be there, their writing was so inviting and dear. Beautiful illustrations were done by Barbara's husband and Gladys' editor "ED".
An exceptional exchange of letters...
The two women writing to each other here are great friends, share a deep love of country (call themselves 'countrywomen') and aren't embarrassed to savor the smallest available joys. Anyone who has loved "The Delicacy and Strength of Lace", the letters between James Wright and Leslie Marmon Silkoe should read this collection.

I love this book, but I need to find out what happens.
I have read the first two lily books and I love them. And I really want to read the other books in the series because the first two books left me hanging and I have so many questions I'm dying to have anwsered.
But, just because nobody can find the last two books doesn't mean you shouldn't read these. Because they really are wonderful. And anyone who's ever read Mandie will LOVE them!
Lois Gladys Leppard dilervers again
If you've ever read any of the Mandie books, you know how wonderfuly Mrs.Leppard writes. This is no expection! When I couldn't find any current Mandie books I started looking for any other books by Mrs.Leppard and I found these! When Mandie goes to Europe, on the boat, she meets a young girl named Lily Masterson and her sister Violet. This book series is about them. They are suddenly called home but when they get there tragedy had already struck! It's a wonderful series, but I've only been able to find book 1 and 2. Mrs.Leppard if you read this, please don't stop writing the Lily books, you've kept us hanging! I've grown up with Mandie and love her but I fell just as deeply in love with Lily! PLEASE don't stop writing Mandie, and PLEASE continue with Lily. They are both wonderful book series!~ Svannah Marlow

Fantastic!!! Tender!! Interesting!!
It's a wonderful story, people over 40 will enjoy it a lot as they recognize the thoughts, the situations, the dreams. It's not necessary to be in Australia, you could be anywhere... I'd like to send an email to the author, if that is possible to congratulate her.... .... I'm doing the same but here in Brazil. I saw the film first, then looked for the book it was based on... Thanks a lot for this book.

Thank you Mrs. Knight
At Home With Gladys Knight is a wonderful, inspiring book. I bought this book for my parents who both have diabetes. After years of trying to get them to follow doctor recommended diets it is a relief to have a book that inspires my parents to not only care about their diet, but their physical fitness as well.
Mrs. Knight has created a quick and easy read that is full of motivation. This book gets 5 stars in the Murphy household.

Basic Composition for Esl : An Expository Workbook
I and my colleagues have used Basic Comp for ESL for a number of years through the second and third edition of this book. We have found the book to very useful and user-freindly. The design and content of the text leads writers through a structured practice of the writing process and a structured analysis of basic rhetorical models. It also gives practice in sentence-generating and editing. The explanatory material is accessible to lower-level students while still useful to higher-level students. We use this book for lower intermediate and intermediate level students; we use Huizenga's Writing Workout as an elementary level text.
As an ESL program administrator, I find that I can give this text to a neophyte teacher of writing and not have to give extensive support. As a longtime teacher of writing, I have found that I can easily move my student writers through the material as quickly or slowly as is needed.
If you are a new teacher of ESL writing, get a copy of this book. If you are looking for a text for a class, definitely consider it.

A new way of looking at picture books
We just started "looking" at Ms Blizzard's book, and it has already opened a whole new world for my children to discover. The format (full page color pictures accompanied by historical reference and discussion questions) is as enjoyable for the children as it is for adults. As a homeschool mother I appreciate the opportunity it provides to take a moment and wonder what the artist may have had in mind when they created their work. I also thank the author for the corresponding list of open ended discussion questions she provides. Take a moment to really look at a picture and let the child interpret it. You may be surprized at how they respond. I know I was. It has become especially popular with my 3 year old who considers the children her friends. We look at it daily and can't wait to add to our collection with another edition of the authors works. A wonderful introduction to art appreciation for all ages. Thank you Ms. Blizzard for a wonderful book! This series is sure to be a hit with all who appreciate art.

Mortal man cannot be this gifted
Once in the South of France, I met a man not of this Earth. His eyes spoke of Old Testament knowledge while his body was reminiscent of Greco-Roman athletes in their prime. The honeyed words which flowed from his lips bathed the throng of admirers that flocked about him in a golden light of Olympian purity. I stumbled haltingly, almost not daring to look upon such a god/man. And yet, to look away, to leave the presence of such a being would surely bring far greater pain. Edging my way forward, I found it impossible to reach this man. The mass of followers which pulsed about him were far too great. As I collapsed to the ground, frustrated and overcome, I felt a strong yet gentle hand touch my shoulder. "Rise up and Read, my child." The stranger placed a copy of "Cafe Millennium" in my eager hands and drifted off in monastic solemnity towards all that is good and right in the world. My life has never been the same.

Despite "Death in the Wet," Not Wet Behind the Ears
The first Gladys Mitchell I ever read, and, again, one of her best. The plot involves three separate strands, both built around the various notions of death by drowning: the death of a snooping schoolmistress in the bathroom at the performance of The Mikado; the death of a madwoman in an asylum who fell into an ornamental pond; and an acquitted wife killer, George Bryan Cutler, based on George Joseph Smith, murdering two other people, and attempting to murder Mrs. Bradley. The ending is ingenious, with one of the most incredible motives ever to grace a detective fiction novel, though the book shares some similarities with "Speedy Death" and "St. Peter's Finger," in the scene of the crime and the method.
