I could not put this down. Moving account of a person's struggle to be seen and heard!! I am a Professor of Special Education at SUNY Plattsburgh and all my students are required to read this book.

It was the most inspiring book that I have read. I hope everyone out there will get a chance to read this book.

This book is great! I've tried all the vegetarian and seafood dishes at this point and have loved each and every one. This is Thai food at its best. It's been better than a lot of stuff I get at Thai restaurants, and it's soooo easy. Ingredients are very easy to find no matter where you are.

Ruth is the woman!

This is a wonderfully clear, concise cookbook with easy-to-follow recipes and colorful photos that represent various Thai dishes and the lovely art of Thai display. The book fits perfectly on any shelf, and the spiral allows it to lay flat so you can simultaneously follow directions and prepare food. It is well arranged and thought out, and the mouth watering recipes are simplified for people on the go. This is a definite for your cookbook collection! Highly recommended.

Zeb is a young mountain boy who is caught alone in a sudden snowstorm. He ends up taking refuge at a cabin his grandfather had helped to build many years before. The old woman living there shelters Zeb, who has a badly swollen ankle, while they are snowbound. To pass the time she offers to tell him the Christmas story. Such is the simple premise of "One Wintry Night," but Ruth Bell Graham tells about much more than the story of the nativity of Jesus.

I find it meaningful that before the story begins we read the first eleven verses of the gospel according to Luke. These are, of course, essentially the same versus that Linus recites in "A Charlie Brown Christmas," which certainly makes it one of the most recognizable Bible verses for young children. It ends with the declaration of the angel of the birth of a savior, and it is ultimately that aspect which Graham is trying to explain. After all, the whole point of the recitation by Linus was to explain to Charlie Brown what Christmas is all about, and this proves to be Graham's goal as well.

Consequently, the old woman in this story begins the tale with the creation of the universe, and she spends more time talking about the story of Adam and Eve than the story of Jesus, which is told from the perspective of a boy named Aaron and his little sister Anna. Zeb is used to underscore the lesson by asking questions that set up each part of the old woman's narrative.

Richard Jesse Watson provides the illustrations, which are beautiful but sort of unnecessary to the story being told (I actually found myself ignoring them the first time through the book simply because I was caught up in the story Graham was telling; but they are some nice illustrations here). The story has in-text citations for scriptural references, including one from the book of Micah, which is usually a good sign. "One Wintry Night" does a nice job of putting the Christmas story in a larger scriptural context, which should certainly be appealing to some parents looking for something along these lines for their children.

This book shows the Bible to be one story...the story of a loving God saving a fallen people. It's a GREAT perspective. The illustrations are beautiful, and the story very well written. I read this to my kids every Christmas, one chapter per night...They're always begging for more! It's wonderful for Christmas, but the story is so much more than just a Christmas story! Highly Recommended!

I was first drawn to One Wintry Night by the illustrations, which are amazing. Realistic pictures give a younger child a lot to look at while you are reading the story. Once I started reading the story I was in awe. Mrs. Graham retells the story of the bible in a simple but captivating way. It is easy to see the paralells that occur in the bible - the way God looked for someone to save His people repeatedly - ending with our saviour. The book intertwines the importance of not only the birth of Christ, but his crucifiction and resurrection. Mrs. Graham also writes wonderful cliffhangers from one chapter to the next which had my five year old begging to read more. This is definitely a book I will read over and over again and will recommend to my friends (or buy it for them!) This is a great way to help introduce a young child to God's character, the bible, and christianity.

My mother-in-law bought this for me (2nd edition) when I started to put up food 20 years ago. I've found it reliable and can't imagine living without it. I was delighted to find out that it is still in print.

A solid and complete resource for any method of food preservation from drying, root cellering to pressure canning of nearly everything. I was delighted to see this book reprinted - I can send a copy to each of my daughters!

This book not only includes great (personally tested) information about proper techniques for food preservation - it has great recipes. I highly recommend the zucchini relish recipe. My friends call me for it all the time. I'm getting them a copy for Christmas!

I'm really impressed with Dr. Kluger, and this book has affected me greatly. I first heard Dr. Kluger on NPR (Terry Gross' "Fresh Air," I believe it was), and I was struck by her honesty and unpretentiousness (just like how Still Alive: A Holocaust Girlhood Remembered is). Even though she is a Jewish woman who was a child during WWII and I am a Korean American born a few generations later, we have a lot in common. Dr. Kluger mentioned on the show that she is an atheist who believes in spirits; I was happy to finally find someone who has the same beliefs! That made me want to read this book.

Although I didn't have to go through anything as devastating as the Nazi concentration/labor/death camps, I could almost empathize with what Dr. Kluger was able to survive. Her book does not sentimentalize in the way that Schindler's List or even The Diary of Anne Frank seem to do. Although those two works were very well-done to say the least, I still didn't have a good idea of the individual's Holocaust experience until I read this memoir. I thank Dr. Kluger so much for sharing her life in such a straightforward, candid, and unique way. I really like the way she writes; as she did in her life, her prose seems to defy convention.

There have been many, many memoirs about the Holocaust. So why read another one? Because it's one of the best, that's why. This author absolutely refuses to indulge in cliches. With her, you do not get anything that is familiar or comfortable. Nor do you get the dramatic emotion and catharsis that she rightly says belongs to the theater, not the concentration camps.

Because she observes life sharply, and comments on it rationally, in fact is a rational voice in a profoundly irrational world, she forces the reader to view her as a person, and not the generic persecution-victim symbol, a view she detests...

There are many times when her use of language is so striking that it's really worth rereading this, maybe several times. For example, when she discusses the opposing myths that the camps weren't all that bad vs. they were so terrible that the survivors were no longer human (p. 151). Then she says, "...". That really is how it goes and the perceptive reader will find many shocks of recognition here, and admire the person brave enough to drop the approved cliches and be honest.

In Still Alive, Ruth Kluger while avoiding sentimentality in her words is able to evoke strong feelings from her readers with her thoughtful analysis of her experiences in pre-war Vienna, Theresienstadt, Auschwitz, and Christianstadt. She also includes commentary on her experiences in dealing with those who had not been through the horrors of the Holocaust and concentration camps and sought to understand.

I have been reading personnal narratives of Holocaust survivors for a research paper, and this work was by far the most memorable and original of the recent works I have read. Her languages is precise. She has thought her ideas through carefully and is aware of her own contradictions in some places. This book has the ability to alter a reader's perspective on what it was like to survive the Holocaust and deal with the memories of the experience.

I've said it in another review and I'll say it again: every home should have at least one Ruth Sanderson book in their children's bookshelves, and her retelling of 'The Twelve Dancing Princesses' would be a pretty good choice.

The king of a prosperous kingdom has twelve beautiful daughters, but is confused at the state of their shoes each morning - each pair is worn through, although the door to their bedroom is locked. Where are the princesses going and how are they getting out? Many men are sent to guard the princesses with the promise that if they solve the mystery they may gain one of their hands in marriage, but all the young princes disappear by morning. But one day Michael comes to the castle as a helper to the gardener with the magical gift of an invisibility cloak given to him by an old woman on the road. Instantly smitten with the youngest princess Lina, Michael hides in the girls' bedroom under his cloak and watches them creep through a secret trapdoor, through glittering woods and across a vast lake to a castle... but how is a mere commoner supposed to inform the king of this and secure the love of his youngest daughter?

Ruth Sanderson once again brings to life a beautiful fairytale with her glorious oil paintings, making this a must for any bookshelf, or lovers of fairytales or fine art. Despite the fact there are twelve princesses, the illustrations are never cluttered, and Sanderson captures water, material, hair and even glances between one figure to another realistically, yet with a whimsical and fantasy touch. If there is one slight flaw, her colours are less bright than in other books - they are mostly pale yellows, blues or greens that give them a slightly washed out look when compared to the vividness of her other books such as 'The Golden Mare, the Firebird and the Magic Ring' and 'The Crystal Mountain', but this is most definitely one of her best narrative retellings. 'The Enchanted Wood' in my opinion still contains her best illustrations, but the story is rather weak. 'The Twelve Dancing Princesses' is the best choice for a melding of both art and storytelling skills.

Basically, girls will adore this, parents will love reading it, and if you take the time to persuade boys that is isn't a 'girly' book, then I'm certain they'll be intrigued enough by the mysterious midnight travels through the woods and the cunning of Michael to enjoy it too!

Having enjoyed looking at children's book since childhood this illustrated book is absolutely amazing. Each page is beautifully illustrated in Oil based paint, such exquisite artistry in a book made for children. The detail of each painting serves to tell the tale without words.

Ruth Sanderson's 'Twelve Dancing Princesses' is a fresh, deftly written take on the original fairy tale. The characters come alive, and the writing captures the childlike innocence of a fairy-tale world without being saccharine. However, what really makes this book stand out are the gorgeous illustrations. Sanderson's sumptuous oil paintings enrich the tale, and are works of art in their own right. Even without words, she knows how to create an atmosphere of mystery and of magic.

You Can Be Somebody 2 is not only good reading but an example of how unmoveable Faith in God can lead to nothing but success in all endeavors. Ted Mead is an inspirational and encouraging character. He is also intriguing, because not only is there no limit to his faith, but there is no limits in his achievements through his trust in God. Mrs. Mayfield did an excellent job in presenting how perserverence and faith in God can only lead to success in all things endeavored. Hats off to the author!

This book captivates you from start to finish. It reinforces your faith and lets you know there is hope for the hopeless and for the non-believers.Ted Mead is a believable character, who captures your heart and your imagination. His faith is unshakeable. This is a book for all ages.

This book will help you gain confidence in your abilities as a home educator.

My fiance got this cookbook for Christmas, and has already made four recipes from it - all of which turned out perfectly! He's generally one to "test" new recipes on me before making them for friends, but these were all spectacular on the first try. Especially wonderful so far has been the risotto with butternut squash and the ravioli stuffing with butternut squash and mascarpone cheese. Absolutely amazing. When you can make cooking fun, it's definitely a triumph - and Rogers & Gray have completely succeeded in that respect. BENE!!

Fabulous, concise, expansive, enjoyable! Rogers and gray make it possible for my friends to think I am a kitchen God!!!

My boyfriend and I are good cooks and food mavens who nonetheless don't cook a lot. We know from great food and the recipes in this book are superb. In no other book have I ever found recipes which consistently yielded such high--i.e., restaurant-quality--results. Another great thing is the fact that many of these recipes don't require a lot of expensive/hard-to-find ingredients. We cooked out of this cookbook and its sequel, these two books alone, for a year and a half. Then we visited the restaurant in London, which is sublime--but that is another story.

I found this book when I was about 17 years old. It had just come out and there were not many books on the subject of reincarnation back then. I have now read many books of this kind. It is my opinion that A World Beyond gives the clearest and most accurate picture of the other side. Although Journey Of Souls by Michael Newton, is also excellent .. if you need to be "drawn a picture" .. A World Beyond, does just that. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an open mind and a desire to expand their beliefs.

Wow what a book. I came across it by accident, picked it up and started reading. I could not put it down. It is just how I have believed life after death to be. To actually read something that describes my thoughts.The purpose of our existance, it is a must to read.

WOW! What a great book, couldn't put it down. I had heard of this book from my Grandmother when I was very young. Not until now (25) had I read this. This book helped to renite my inner feelings of life after death, I had been so busy as we all get and how wonderful to reawake myself. Not for the "good bible beater"... Well maybe. I hope everyone who has contact with this book is able to approach with an open heart. There is a wonderful message that awaits all of us. My love to you Ruth and Arthor.
