Time for Bed

It's a wonderful book that the child participates in!
My daughter and I love this book. The pull out figures give her a way to contribute to our quiet time. I took the figures to an office supply store and had them laminated so they'll remain in good condition...and they have! A wonderful contribution to any child's library!

My 2-year-old's favorite book
The perfect just-before-tucking-in book! My daughter loves it and asks for it every night. She carefully tucks each animal into the appropriate bed--and even chides Tiger for having too much cake at the birthday party. The only problem is keeping track of all the little paper cut-outs! I even thought of making a back up set on the color copier and having them laminated...but I'm not Martha Stewart.

A Great Bedtime Preparation Story for Toddlers
This is a very nice story about friends falling asleep and tucking them into bed. My child enjoys tuckng each of the sleepy friends into the beds provided on each page and wishing each one a "Goodnight". When the story is over each of her friends are tucked in, and she is ready mentally to join them in going Goodnight! Each page ends with the same text "Let's tuck them into bed. Goodnight, [animal]." So the child begins to read along with you. I have a two year old, and she obviously does not read, but she expects that each animal will be tucked in and bid goodnight. Then it's her turn--and she goes without fuss!

Lots of wonderful ideas!!
Susan was my neighbor growing up so that made this book especially exciting. It has great ideas for volunteers or workers as we call them. We've used almost every suggestion in there for all sorts of activities... Sunday school, Sunday evening discipleship, VBS.. and lots more. Kids love to get them as well! Highly recommend this book.

Wonderful to show appreciation to volulnteers!
This clever book has 70 pages to reproduce, add a treat, and give to a teacher or volunteer to express appreciation. As an example, a message might be "You were MINT to be here", to be given to a volunteer along with an Andes mint, or "We can tell your students love learning about Jesus by their Snickers", to be given along with a Snickers bar. A very cute way to say "thank you"!

Wonderful for showing appreciation
This clever book contains 70 pages to reproduce, add a treat, and give to volunteers or teachers to show your appreciation. The messages relate to a specific candy, such as "You were MINT to be here", to be given to a volunteer, along with an Andes Mint, or "We can tell how much your students enjoy learning about Jesus by their Snickers", to be given along with a Snickers candy bar. A very cute and inexpensive way to say "thank you"!

Middle School & High School Use
This summer school session I taught 7-8-9 combination classes. Ruth Heller's book on adverbs was helpful. The bright pictures were just as eye-catching for a 13-year old as for a 7-year old. The language use prompted many questions from my students -- second language learners and native English speakers. We even "marched" around the campus reciting the opening ditty "Adverbs work terrifically when answering specifically how, how often, when, and where." Though the freshmen were a bit embarrassed about the march, they learned about adverbs and thought the song and march were great punishment for the class clowns.

Score one for concept-attainment lessons!
I constantly struggle to clearly present the abstract concept of the parts of speech. Heller's Language Series is a wonderful help in this task. The illustrations are beautiful, the rhyming instructional/example-filled poetry is fun to read, and the book could be used with a wide variety of ages! Thank you Ruth Heller!

Wonderful resource for teachers
Ruth Heller has a fantastic way of explaining parts of speech to children that is fun and different. I am a teacher in a middle school and I am using all of her World of Language books to open up the lesson on each part of speech. They are a bit elementary for middle school students, but sometimes that is what it takes. The pictures are also a delight and the students enjoy browsing through the book when I am finished. What a fun way to open up kids to parts of speech and the English language.

I'm getting one for every child I know
This book came to our family as a hand-me-down from a neighbor for my 2-year-old son, and now we can't live with out it. The rhymes are so witty, entertaining and infectious that I can't tell people about the book without quoting verbatim. Krauss's playful use of language is eternally endearing and Sendaks quirky illustrations of chair-chomping lions and clumsy giants are a treasure. I had feared that this book would be out of print. Now that I have found it, I am buying it for every child (and parent) I know starting with my three-year-old nephew.

The Best Children's Book Ever!
I LOVED this book as a child, so much that I asked for a copy as a birthday gift as an adult. This is the most visually entertaining, linguistically exciting, playful and joyful story I ever read in a children's book. Sendak's simple illustrations are profoundly expressive and appropriate for Kraus' self-indugent imaginary escapade. Yes, to most people it probably seems a little bit weird, but if you have an imaginitive child in your life....BUY HIM OR HER THIS BOOK!

More More More! More More More!
...and it's just a house for me me me
At first reading, somewhat bizarre. So read it twice! It grows on you; it grew into our favorite children's book. It screams to be read aloud; the rhymes aren't Seuss-ly annoying, and the rhythms are interesting.
"...they and I are making music
and we're falling over laughing"
The simple illustrations (Sendak, I think?) are great. Krauss's expressions of child-ego are true-to-my-memory, and rang bells with my kids. I could not afford books back then; fortunately our children's librarian had my taste in books (I don't recall any Berenstain Bears!); but this was one book I HAD TO OWN. It makes a very JOYFUL noise. Read it, then find a copy of Pete Seeger's or Woody Guthries' folk songs for kids... a perfect hour.

A Walk Out of the World
Published in Paperback by Ace Books (1986)
Author: Ruth Nichols
Amazon base price: $2.95
Average review score:

This one resonates
The author says, when she was young, she dreamed of walking out of this world and into another. She realized that dream by writing this book. Like many other well-crafted stories for children I have not found this one to be any less sweet when I read it, not (as I did at first) as a young teen, but as an adult. Track down this story at a library, and for a brief while, walk into another world.

A small, perfect jewel
Two children, brother and sister, cross over from this world to a fantasy world and are instrumental in overcoming the evil dwelling there - the plot is familiar to any reader of fantasy novels. But "A Walk Out of the World" is not just another competent-but-familiar Young Adult fantasy. Written when the author was eighteen, this lovely novel has a haunting, lyrical quality to it that lingers long after, a knowing innocence and a gentle strain of melancholy that touches the soul. Most fantasies are symphonic in scope - this one is a string quartet, with an aching cello sobbing softly, sweetly at its heart. Long overdue for reprinting!

A wonderful young adult book in the spirit of Tolkien
If you have young adults at home, you must get this book. I first read this book in middle school and fell in love with it!! It is a fantasy novel in the best spirit of Tolkien or C.S. Lewis. It is a wonderfully written tale of two children who feel that something is missing from their lives, and find what is missing when they are swept into another world. In this world, they help fight against an old evil, and, in the process, they discover themselves.

Great resource, teaching tool & reference
This is one of those books where the kids version is better than the adults version! It breaks down the Bible, into sections and sub-sections. For example, it introduces the 1st 5 books of the Old Testament as the Books of the Law, explains why they are called that, the main points, the main people, an outline of what happens in each chapter- and then it goes a wonderful step further, and links in known historical information, a map of 'Where It All Happened', and other pertinent information about the world at that time. The same format is followed for each Book of the Bible. Within each book there are small illustrations & summaries of the main events in each chapter, which are surprisingly well done- not off-putting to an adult, very accessible to a child. The reference materials at the end- a good dictionary of words that one doesn't often see outside of the Bible!, Bible geography, good time lines of the Old & New Testaments, and an amazing 16 pages of good color pictures tucked away at the end make this book a must!

There are bits that are clearly written for children, and the section on 'Becoming God's Child' may or may not fit exactly with your view of things, but don't be put off by those: this is a great tool for getting to grips with a lot of information.

THE BEST!
I've just started out in my walk with Christ so Childrens books have been VERY helpfull in my study. Out of the 10 books this is by far THE BEST!

Just what my kids need!
I teach Sunday School to third graders, most of whom are more likely to associate Genesis with computer games rather than with the Bible. Our church gives every third grader a Bible -- an adult Bible, with very little study helps or annotations. This book is exactly what my third graders need to help them begin to understand and appreciate God's Word. Although it's written in language the kids can understand, it doesn't talk down to them.

My daughter, who has both the NIV and NIrV Kids' Study Bible, also loves this book.

I liked this book so much, I bought the adult version for myself. I also purchased the reproducible timelines, maps, etc. These will be a tremendous help in both my personal Bible study and my Sunday School class.

Who You Are and Why You Are Here
WHO YOU ARE AND WHY YOU ARE HERE
Finding Your Life Purpose and Personality Type
by Ruth Mierswa

Author, counselor, scholar and seeker Ruth Mierswa says in the very beginning of her new
book, "You came into this life for two reasons--one is to help people and the other is to
change your weaknesses into strengths." After reading the rest of Who You Are and
Why You Are Here, this reviewer found a pathway to accomplish both.

Using the Seven Rays from the Alice Bailey series (but offering understanding in a clearer
and more concise fashion) Ms. Mierswa brings all disciplines together while lifting them to
a higher level...and she also shows how the reader can be lifted to a higher level, too.

Who You Are and Why You Are Here enables you to find your personality ray and soul
ray which identifies, with copious details, your life purpose and personality type. It was
intriguing for this reviewer that I, a Pisces, have a ray 1 soul and personality . I discovered
much about myself, especially that my character weaknesses (and there are many) can be
transmuted into strengths--and Ruth Mierswa told me how! And so it is for all signs.

So many people are hurting! They want to know, Why me? Why did this happen to me??
This book explains why they have these experiences and how these experiences are
opportunities for spiritual growth. You'll be shown how to rid yourself of anger, guilt, and
other harmful emotions on both a conscious and unconscious level.

Ruth Mierswa has given us a book that answers many of your why questions e.g. why
some people are born talented or with a superior intellect. Who You Are and Why You
Are Here identifies your level of evolvement and gives you the means to evolve higher. In
the doing, by changing weaknesses into strengths, you'll be better able to help
humankind---and that's why we're here!

Life Changing - Highly Recommended
This book has changed my life. I spent over a year filling out personality questionnaires, and assessments, but couldn't get any closer to finding out my life purpose. If you're scared of finding out your life purpose (for fear that you may actually fail if you start it), or if you're intimidated by past voices from your parents or teachers, then assessments and questionnaires simply won't work. I even tried hypnosis, and could only get vague answers. And numerology named things I could do well, but not a "life purpose". Finally, I found and read this book and got in touch with the truth about myself. The book described not only my life purpose (what I'm here to do, that no one else can do quite like me), but also my personality and my character weaknessess. Before this book, I wasn't really into astrology, but the book helped to open my eyes to the proof that ray-centered astrology is accurate. The back of the book contains details of studies (for all of you left-brain types). Besides telling you about yourself personally, she also discusses the universal laws and why we are here and what we are doing here. However, even better is her discussion about how the disciplines (psychology, healing, spirituality, and science) are changing at this point in our humanity as they, too, enter the Aquarian age. Buy the book, and even better, have her do a complete astrological delineation for you.

Brilliant! A must-read book!

The Wildes of Wyoming--Hazard (Intimate Moments)
Published in Paperback by Silhouette (1900)
Author: Ruth Ryan Langan
Amazon base price: $4.50
Average review score:

The Wildes of Wyoming-Hazard
When Hazard Wilde's experimental herd begins yielding fatal results for unknown reasons, he calls in research specialist, Dr. Erin Ryan, under the advisement of a mutual mentor. He hopes that her objectivity and expertise will help him discover what is behind the unexplainable deaths that are occurring. Surprisingly enough, it is her heart that engages itself with this project and with it, her tenacity when it comes to finding out the cause.

I found Hazard, the middle brother, to be admirable, determined, and dedicated. He has a close affinity with the land and I really enjoyed looking at the Double W through his eyes because of his appreciation for what his father originally wanted for him and his brothers. It's what he struggles to hang on to and improve upon.

Erin Ryan was endearing as a heroine because of her naivete which was at such odds with her advanced mind. I've read of heroines who have been incredibly smart but have also been, as a result, incredibly insecure or hypersensitive about it as well. I think that Erin's naivete was refreshing. Her lack of consuming bitterness towards the childhood that shaped her was engaging as well.

Langan has drawn two wonderfully isolated characters towards each other with skill, compassion, and heart. It's a wonderful story that conveys the sense that, even for people who are socially withdrawn, there is someone who can understand you and whom you can come to understand in turn.

The Wildes of Wyoming - Hazard
This is a most enjoyable and romantic book. As a nurse, some of the medical stuff was not quite right, and was almost laughable. However, with all the romance, this was overshadowed. Any woman would love to have a prom night like that, with that date! Who would need the real thing? You have to read the book to know what that means, cause I'm not gonna spoil that little surprise! All in all, this was a well thought out, romantic book that I have read twice since buying it!

The Wildes of Wyoming-Hazard
I enjoyed the story of Hazard, the oldest Wilde brother of the Wyoming Wildes. This is the second book in the series and as good, if not better, than the previous book. Hazard is the least likely to gamble of the 3 brothers. The one most tied to the land. Cattle is his livelihood and his passion. And his cattle are dying for no apparent cause. When he seeks help, vet Dr. Ryan arrives. She is not what he expected but she is what he wants. This story flows smoothly, with an interesting cast and mystery to the end. I can hardly wait for the next brothers story.

Now I'm teaching the Kids!
I was getting sick and tired of asking my daughter and son, (10 and 14 year-olds) how to do anything and everything on the PC we've owned for a year. I challenged myself to running our business from home with me and the PC at the helm! Within 4 days of receiving this book, I feel confident to tackle anything the machine can throw at me - I'm designing letterheads, customizing documents, sending e-mails...you name it, I now feel confident to try it.

This book has completely dispelled all my fears about computers - now I'm ordering a copy to be sent to my 68 year-old Dad!

Keeps it Easy & Interesting!
If you don't know how to use Microsoft Word 97, or want to learn how to do more advanced tasks in it and thoroughly understand them, then this is the book for you. Clear, helpful pictures guide the way to where you should click in a very easy to follow step-by-step form. Plus great 3D drawings fill the top half of each page, with a friendly disk character explaining what you will learn on the current page and why you would need to use that feature. And if that's not enough to keep you interested in the book, every page is full color! If you want an easy-to-understand guide to Word 97 that won't bore you, then this is the book to get.

The best book you could buy to learn Word 97!
I had never worked with Word 97 before last year. This book helped me to learn the application quickly. It presents the material in a clear and simplied manner that is easy for even the most novice Word user. I highly recommend this book.
