Great painter, Great book
After reading a few of the other reviews I felt like throwing my 2 cents worth. First of all, I am amazed and love the fact that Diebenkorn has recieved so much press. Its a shame he was shunned from the New York art world when he was alive.(Although, I don't think he was terribly upset by this) I didn't even hear of him untill I went to England to do my M.A.! I bought my first book of his then in 94'. I think its whitechaple press. In any case, this book is much more complete with great- great photos and essays. It is pure joy. The biggest problem I have with the book is trying to keep it out of my studio, so as not to get paint on it. If you happen to go to the San Francisco MOMA check out their nice collection of his work!

Real painting
For an art lover Diebenkorn has the rare gift of sharing the sensation of painting. Lucious, sensual and pricise color harmonies, and those rythmic intervals. For a european it is another one of those deserving american miracles that such an artist gets a catalog and museum exhibition like this. The text is as precise as Diebenkorns color harmonies, and shows in depth great concern and understanding of his art and time.

REALLY GOOD!
Im one of Diebenkorn's fans, and this book is whatever you want if you like colorism, and pure painting! highly recommended!

Everyone needs this book
If you have only one pan and one book this is it. This book should be the first for everyone who wants to cook. Jamee is the best teacher. This was my first book of hers, also check out Mix It Up! The only book you need for the stand mixer. Do not settle for anything less than what Jamee gives you, the manual. Not just a cookbook.

Thank you Jamee!
I never thought I would be able to cook like this. I will buy anything Jamee writes! Don't be afraid to try everything. Just read and follow the simple perfectly written instructions and you will be a cook. Give us more Jamee!!

easy yummy, guides you through the technique
Good cookbook with easy directions, and by and large, not too many difficult-to-find ingredients. Normally I shy away from special appliances and the books to go with 'em (always believed you should just learn to COOK, period), but I got a grill pan for xmas and then I bought this book. I'd say I now cook at least 50% of my dinners with the pan, and this book covers the topic well -- a good section on basics of using a grill pan. The recipies are not complex, they're more there to teach and reinforce general grill pan techniques. It covers vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, etc, so it pretty much runs the gamut. If you use cookbooks only for step by step verbatim technique and ingredents, this gets the job done. If you use cookbooks to guide you through a technique to add to your kitchen skills, this is excellent.

Performance Analysis for Java Websites

Very valuable book
This is an excellent book, providing thorough coverage of performance analysis. Although this book is aimed at Java based sites, it would serve as a good primer for anyone learning how to tune a website with dynamic content. The authors assume the reader has only basic familiarity with internet technologies, and explains concepts as needed. After providing a basic theoretical grounding, the authors illustrate the concepts with a case study, going from simple to complex.

The book is well-organized and thought out, and presents its information in an understandable, easy to follow fashion. I particularly like the inclusion of the test and capacity planning forms in the appendix. This gives readers the chance to put the information to work, instead of just giving case studies or presenting only theory.

A highly recommended and informational book.

Like a visit from an expert.
A well executed tutorial and reference to all things performance. The books takes you through all of the elements of performance in a J2EE system. Starting with simple things that can get the most bang for the buck, to more complex changes to help you optimize your environment. Several good case studies present the process in a great "show me how" style. Well worth the money for anyone doing development in enterprise Java.

The authors are evidently experienced and write in a nice confident, but not overly technical, manner. They don't make any assumptions about the readers skill level in Java or web servers. Each step is explained well from the reasoning for the change to the finished product. They do an especially good job of helping you identify improvements to your site.

Highly recommended.

Great book--and for more than just Java web app developers
What a great, pragmatic, deeply informative book. As a web application developer for 5 years and enterprise application developer for 20, I came to the book with considerable experience, yet I still learned a lot. And as a trainer and writer, I'm always looking for good books to recommend and this is one I do most highly.

Important to note is that it's also valuable for those developing ASP, ColdFusion, or PHP web sites, because the performance analysis approaches used by the authors (and tool discussions) are rather generic. You don't really need to understand Java to benefit considerably from their excellent explanations of the fundamentals of web application performance analysis and tuning.

That's not to take away from its unique value for Java developers. Clearly there are many specific aspects for them, but other developers will find that 80% of the book is perfectly useful and deeply informative.

I rate a book by how many notes I take as tidbits of useful info. And though I've used several load testing tools and even given seminars on the subject, I still learned much in every chapter.

Great learning tool and reference
On the advice of my PA, I read the book before going on the pump in October 2001 (22 years after my diagnosis with Type I diabetes). The book is written extremely well and provides clear and concise coverage of the almost every aspect of pump therapy. The authors highlight considerations to make before going on the pump, as well as circumstances you will encounter after beginning pump therapy. The book offers explanations and calculations to figure total daily dosages and advice on how to change dosages for exercise, patterns of high and low bg's, etc. The material included in the book is really valuable when you begin working with your doctor, PA, etc, to help you know what questions to ask. I felt like I had more confidence and knowledge in the transition to pump therapy. "Pumping Insulin" helped me to better manage the pump and my diabetes as soon as I walked into the doctor's office for my initial pump appointment. And for those that have already started pumping, the book's a great reference tool to have on hand.

Must-have reference for pumping.
We got this book in late March, 2001, shortly after our then-6 year old son who has Type 1 diabetes started pumping insulin. This reference explains so well how short-acting insulin is used in the body, how to calculate for it during exercise, how to make adjustments to the basal rates....it save our pump trainer many late night calls. It was a lifesaver in helping us get through the insulin pump learning curve faster. Only thing it doesn't handle in-depth enough is "surprise" infusion set changeouts & sensitivity to Humalog. This book helped us understand how to take better care of our son.

a book to change your future
This book is the best I have read on pumping, having taken us(my son aged 10 and I) from very little knowledge on the subject, to convincing us it was for him, and to using it as an essential handbook and support tool now he is on the pump. Umlike some other books, it is so easy to read and understand, without having to read and re read it to get the meaning. The tables in it are so useful and much of the information is not easy to find altogether in one place in any other books. As in car repair books, this one is a 'dirty finger' book - you use it as you go along, and can never know more than the book or outgrow it. I have bought several copies for other people now, and everyone has been pleased with it.A must if you have a pump or are thinking about getting one.

The Third Culture Kid Experience: Growing Up Among Worlds

a MUST HAVE BOOK FOR FAMILIES OVERSEAS
David Pollock and Ruth Van Reken have written a book that is invaluable to families who live overseas. Their understanding of the unique interpersonal and intrapersonal needs of persons in transition, coming and going from culture to culture, is first-hand as well as being well researched. It has been an essential tool for me as I work with students and families in the international/expatriate community. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Could help others too
I was a Third Culture Kid and I found this book helpfull in understanding who I am 40 years later. (I found the TCK phrase awkward but could think of none better.)

I also think this would be of use to people whose childhood was similar to the TCK's. Especially children who had little stability while growing up. Divorce, parential deaths, and especially children shunted off to boarding schools.

Many boarding schools provide a fairly good life and a substitute family, but when it's over, it's over. and then who am I?

This is me!
Really loved that book, the first time I felt understood in a very long time. I grew up in Peru and Spain, studied in the USA then moved to my "home country" Germany-(now I live in San Diego!). You really grasp every single feeling one experiences and the examples mentioned in the book could very well be me! .................... Saludos H.

Very informative
An excellent book, covers the basics well

The D Manual Is The Book to Start With -
In all my years of riding and teaching this is the book I recommend first to beginners and their families. This book spells out the "right way" and what a great way to start. Safety is stressed - the basics are covered. If you or a friend wants to get started with horses this is definitely the book to start with. Once you know this book read the C manual - if you know all that you will be ready for just about anything. Then if you want to fine tune your abilities with horses read the B manual and then the A - BUT START WITH THE D MANUAL!

Perfect Series for Competitive English Riders
The USPC series is extremely helpful to me. Although aimed towards the younger rider, these books have helped riders of all experiences, and all ages. Complete with advice for flatwork, groundwork, jumping, eventing, tack care, and general and specific horse care, this series is perfect!

A Great Addition to any "Work Abuse " Toolkit
This book helped to "fill in the holes" for me. I am a manager who has witnessed innumerable incidents aptly described in this book. There are no "official" guidelines or information available from my employer for addressing this phenomenon...if it doesn't fall within the classical "legal" definition of harassment...many of my peers either ignore the behavior, engage in the behavior or collude with the "system" to perpetuate it. This book and another great book, "Work Abuse: How To Recognize and Survive It" by Judith Wyatt and Chauncey Hare have been invaluable aids in helping me to identify and implement actions that have strengthened my management skills, by encouraging change and authentic healing.

bullies (liars) are everywhere
Bullies get what they need personally because one of their major needs is to look good at the expense of others, especially in a
workplace that allows such behavior to multiply. Government organizations where executives prefer to isolate themselves from frontline workers are particularly vulnerable since the lies that bullies pass on to executives are accepted as de facto truth. Managing by walking around is unheard of in these places.

excellent theoretical foundation
This book provided the one thing I found missing in all the similar books I have read: a valid theoretical explanation of why bullying occurs -- the characteristics and dynamics of both the targets and the bullies. Essentially, bullies and targets (victims of bullies) come in all varieties, except that targets have one quality in common: they foster collaboration. Bullies, in turn, also have one trait in common: they are hierarchial. This leads to the inevitable crash when the bully percieves that the target is "giving away" the very things that the bully wishes to "sell". The driving force behind bulling is the need to control other people. The vulnerability of targets lies in their incomprehension of why anyone would want to control others when they could instead cooperate with them. These mental models are fundamentally incompatible. In addition, bullies are comfortable using aggression to gain control while cooperators are not. Bullies want to crush targets, targets want to "get along" with bullies. This really excellent book explains the basis for the mental models, the dynamics of the interaction between bullies and targets, and offers targets strategies for survival.

Its her favorite!
This is my 18 month old's favorite book for the past several months! She picks it out time and time again. She loves all the animals and the part where I sing Happy Birthday to Gorilla (and she pretends to blow out the candles). She likes to fetch different stuffed animals to read this book with her--she'll "point out to them" the page that they are featured on! (Its got every animal from a lion to a zebra, to a elephant...of course her stuffed gorilla is ever present for the reading of this book!)

Little Gorilla captured my son's heart!
This book is one of my 18 month old's two MUST READS before bedtime. (along with Goodnight Moon) It is a cute story about the gorilla, and how everybody loves him - from when he was one day old, to when he grew to be big.

A story for all generations
My son was 3 when I bought him Little Gorilla. His sisters were 8 and 10, and he was often frustrated that they could do things he wasn't allowed to do. Little Gorilla was his favorite bedtime story. What he liked most was that Little Gorilla grew, and grew, and grew, until Little Gorilla was BIG! He was surrounded by love and affection that didn't go away once Little Gorilla grew big. I'm buying a new copy of "Little Gorilla" for my future grandchildren. It is a sweet, gentle story, that will always be meaningful to small children and the people who love them.

This is an awesome Mario book!
This book is great for Mario fans. It's about how Mario and Luigi get lost in Pipe Land trying to save the princess. You must buy it!

C O O L
This book is just cool! The puzzles are hard enough to stump the best of players, but as easy as pie sometimes. I reccomend this book to ANYONE!

This is a VERY good book that is PERFECT for Mario fans.
This book is really fun to read It's one of those books where you choose a choice, then turn to another page, only with PUZZLEs that choose whether you win a Starman or get bonked with a Tweeter Bird. I did it at least 30 times, each one just as exciting. The only problem i had was erasing the pencil marks from the puzzles i had done already.
