A Savannah, GA must have
This map is the greatest city map I've ever used. If your planning a trip to Savannah, GA, you must have this map. It is money well spent. My Mom almost wore it out during our mother-daughter trip to Savannah. Don't go to Savannah without this map!!![.]

Take It With Ya
This quaint southern gem on the coast of Georgia can be explored on foot and this map will make your stops plenty and worthwhile. If you want to admire the architectural beauty of homes, streets, parks, (and ghosts), or find oysters on the half shell with great live music, this book and a good pair of shoes is all you'll need.

Best Guide for Savannah
I bought this map because of the great reviews I had read from other Amazon customers, and I was not disappointed! I appreciated several features. The map displayed in different colors most of the bed & breakfast establishments, hotels, shops, restaurants, and historical sites in the riverfront and historical areas of Savannah. The back of the map displayed a more general view of Savannah and the surrounding area. The map is small, portable and can be used as keepsake afterwards. It was well worth the price!

IT SHORE DON'T STANK
Very informative book. I learned so much about my African heritage. I thought the name 'BRASCH' was a strange name for a brother. Who knew a white man could teach me so much about my roots!! It took me a long time to read the book because each chapter was full of information. I had to give my brain time to process it all. I was sorry when I had read the last chapter. I live near Atlanta and plan to visit the home of Joel Chandler Harris.

I bought several copies to send as gifts to relatives.

Involving and engrossing, yet scholarly
While the tales of Uncle Remus are some of the most notable American folk tales, the name of their author Joel Chandler Harris is less known, and many have no awareness of this preserver of Afro-American dialect and folklore. Brer Rabbit, Uncle Remus & The 'Cornfield Journalist' uses primary sources from letters and newspaper accounts to diaries and art to provide a cultural biography of Harris, a man who lived in the South and preserved a tradition which might otherwise have been lost. Involving and engrossing, yet scholarly in research and depth.

A well-researched, well-written biography.
This is a fascinating book. Anyone interested in the story behind the characters we knew as children--Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, and Uncle Remus--would find Walter Brasch's thorough research, his extensive collection of photographs and illustrations, and his thoughtful treatment of recent and current debate over the work of Joel Chandler Harris to be well worth an investment of $... and a few hours of pleasurable reading.

Damn Good Dawgs
This is a must have for any true UGA fan. Excellent stories and pictures.

Perfect for any coffee table, waiting room, or library.

Damn good book!

World's Greatest Mascot
This is a book that actually needed to be written for a variety of reasons. On many differant levels, the story of the growth of Uga 1 through Uga V1 is also the story of the growth of a family, a region, and that of a world class university.
In 1956, Mr. Frank Seiler and his wife,Cecilia, receive a English Bulldog puppy as a belated wedding gift. These two people who hail from Georgia were just getting started in life as a married couple and in their careers. Mr. Seiler as a law student at Georgia on his way to becoming a well known Savannah attorney, and Cecelia as a homemaker and fellow university graduate. While working at the Georgia ticket office in 1956 Athens, Mr.Seiler is asked by Coach Wally Butts if the university could use their dressed up English Bulldog to generate some excitement for the football team after Uga 1 causes a stir in the stands during a game. This is where the rest of the story begins.
By using archival photos and recollections, Mr. Seiler relates how the Uga legend came to be. It tracks the growth of the Seiler family which eventually includes four children who all became caretakers to the Uga line. This story also explains the hard work and dedication that The Seiler's have shown in going to all Georgia home games and many away games.Even with a busy law practice and a growing family, The Seiler's give their time and energy to growing the dogs both as pets and as world famous mascots. Damn Good Dogs! is the story of a loving, hard working family and the dedication they show towards a university that has grown by leaps and bounds in 45 years. Today, Uga VI is the face of the University of Georgia. Anywhere in the world it is a symbol for everyone associated with the University of Georgia and the city of Athens, Georgia. This book tells how this actually came to be.

Move Over Ann Rule!!
I am the author of Roseflower Creek, a novel which tells of the short life and death of ten-year-old Lori Jean Dodson, who dies at the hands of her stepfather, in l950's rural Georgia. But Jackie Weldon's story is not one of fiction. It is the heartbreaking true chronicle of a crime which tortured a young mother, her family and all of Atlanta during the sweltering summer of l992. Written with the skill of a true word artist, it will keep you reading long into the night. Though the narrative will break your heart and haunt your soul, you'll find it concludes with the birth of hope, literally and figuratively. Don't miss this story or this gifted author's ability to tell it.

The Empty Nursery
This book is riveting and excellently crafted. Jaclyn Weldon White is a gifted writer as well as a knowledgeable law enforcement professional.
Move over Patricia Cornwell-White can take TRUE stories and present them as well as you write fiction.

Superb Writing. Suspenseful Story.
The deaths of babies and children are always the most difficult
true crime readings for me. It unnerves me to believe there are people out there who would take the life of any child,
especially one of their own. There has to be an absence of conscience for someone to commit such a cowardly act. As in this
case, Haley's death was the result of a cruel, senseless, cold-blooded murder. The death penalty serves a purpose for people like Kenny Hardwick. After the first two chapters of the book, I was so angry with Hardwick that had Haley been my child I would have probably strangled him myself. The author, Jackie White, does a superb job of reseach and writing Haley's story. Since she was so close to Haley's mother, I am certain it took great restraint for Jackie to curb her own anger and emotion and not allow her feelings to color the story. Honestly, I was kept on the edge of my seat until I finally finished reading the book, and confirmed what everyone had already suspected-Kenny was the culprit of this horrible deed. I highly recommend An Empty Nursery and label it a 5 STAR book!!!!!

Avoid this book, good as it is.
This book, the third edition of a worthy effort, has been superseded by Howard's GET CLARK SMART (2000), which is the fourth edition, with numerous changes and updates. The more recent book is published with no reference to the earlier editions and under a different title, so the unwary consumer is liable to buy either the outdated edition, or (as in my case) both editions, without realizing that he's getting two versions of the same book. This is ironic, given the author's reputation as a consumer advisor.

excellent, saves the consumer $$$$, 1st book written for me
This book has saved me major $ from the sale of my home to the purchase of a new one. Mr. Howard cover it all from credit cards, credit reports, buying cars etc..... This book was written for me (the consumer)and I will recomend that all my friends buy, plus I have bought serveral copies for Christmas gifts...

great advice, easy reading, good web addresses
Clark takes his talk show and puts it into book form for those who can't hear him. This geek can speak, and his simple tips will save you money, time, aggrevation and embarassment. Buy it for someone who needs tips but is too lazy or shy too ask! He has a crack staff behind him, and while they differ on saving money, they all know they owe Clark a huge thanx for taking them to Italy for $200 apiece. One money-saving idea will pay for the book, and your friends will literally start calling you "Clark".

Clay Pot Cookbook

The clay-pot classic shows it's age.
Georgia and Grover provide a fun read. There is not an intimidating, high brow paragraph in this book. The recipes include clear, easily followed directions. Reading the opening and any three random recipes will provide adequate information to make one an expert clay-pot chef. Don't let the organ meat recipes frighten you off. They make up a small portion of the book. The authors claim that clay-pot cooking is very healthy - low fat, low sodium, yet richly flavored. The definition of low fat, low sodium must have been much different in 1974. Many of the recipes in this book add unnecessary fat and salt. Some even call for bouillon cubes - Jean Bell's Beef Stroganoff calls for two cubes and is garanteed to make guests thirsty all evening! Most of the recipes are easily tweaked to meet low fat, low sodium guidelines. Nothing wrong with enjoying them in their original sinful forms! Just beware if you buy this book seeking health reform.

No Time to Cook? Let the Claypot do all the work!
I purchased a Romertopf clay pot 5 years ago and bought this book soon after. Grover's Roast Chicken recipe was my first attempt and it was scrumptious! I steered clear of the recipes containing organs but I found that soups, stews and even breads turn out beautifully in the clay pot. I now have 3 sizes and would advise the user to line the pot with parchment paper just to reduce the cleanup time. This book helps to demystify a basically simple cooking utensil and you will love the results. Food is packed with flavor and moisture and you just have to sit by and wait to serve. It is a lifesaver for those of us who love a home-cooked meal but don't have the time after a long day at work.

Excellent main dish recipies for clay pot
I have used this book for 20 years and am ordering a copy for friends. It is one of the two best clay cook books out of seven I have tried-- my other favorite is out of print. I have lots of our family all time favorites marked in this book. Many recipies are relatively low fat or can be modified and use a minimum of canned or packaged ingrediants. That's in contrast with "Cooking in Clay" by Joanna White-- which also has lots of breads and desserts, not the best use of the clay pot in my opinion.

Wonderful Glimpse Into the 1st Year of Med School!
As a premedical student, I thoroughly enjoyed this piece of work...It examines the physical and emotional aspects of a first year med student quite well. A must-read for anyone contemplating a career in medicine.

a great relief and a great read
In the fall I will begin my first semester as a medical school student. I find the prospect of gross anatomy terrifying, and this book did an excellent job of lessening my anxiety towards the course and towards the ordeal that is medical school itself.

Well written and insightful account of a unique experience
The author provides the reader with an opportunity to experience something unique and different -- human dissection. For those involved in medical education, the dissectioin experience is portrayed in a sensitive, insightful and accurate manner. The author's essays and illustrations of the dissections by Versalius provides a sensory of history and meaning that any health propfessions student about to take gross anatomy would find fscinating. This book is must reading for any first year medical student and should be on anyone's list who is concerned with the education of health professionals.

a review by Sarah Mankowski

Georgia's Ghostly Getaways is a journey across Georgia, as well as a journey through time. While it is hardly surprising that ghost stories and sightings would become closely associated with places of historical significance, I found it intriguing that so much history of a state could be gleamed from its ghost stories.

Recommended for those planning a vacation is Georgia and for those interested in Georgia's history.

...well written and authentic
Do you believe in Ghosts? A lot of people say there is no such thing. Oh yea? Then you haven't read about the Ghosts of Georgia. Having lived in Georgia for over ten years, I can tell you that the ghosts in the book by Ms. Walls do exist. There are hundreds of people, both tourist and residents alike, who have seen them.

If you travel on vacation, you might stop in some of these places in Georgia. You might even become a believer and see your own ghost.

This book is well written and authentic. A must read for those who believe in the supernatural, and even for those who don't.

Mystery Writer Shares Inspirational Settings
Reviewed by Carolyn Howard-Johnson, award-winning author of "This is the Place" and "Harkening"

In Georgia's Ghostly Getaways, Kathleen Walls shares her love of mystery, mayhem and marvelous stories. She has given those who savor the paranormal plenty of material to ponder and new places to go.

This book is divided into areas or districts. A reader might read this book for the fun of it or for the research of it and then, if they can only give over a few days for a romp among specters, choose a specific locale in Georgia to explore. An example is the Americus and Plains, Ga., area where Jimmy Carter grew up and where the Habitat for Humanity was birthed. If you read Carter's book, Why Not the Best? you'd know about a house that haunted his memory but you might not put that knowledge to work in a way that would result in a trip to the region.

Walls wrote the mystery "Last Step." She knows the area intimately and shares all the ghostly possibilities for this rural region. She also gives the reader helpful contacts including telephone numbers and some websites at the end of this and every other chapter. She covers everyplace from genteel Savannah, "Georgia's Hostess City", to the "Bloody Fields of War."

Georgia's Ghostly Getaways is well researched. The credits at the back of the book might even serve as a guide of sorts for a traveler destined to experience the spirits and specters of our American South. The book rings with phrases like "Man in Black" and "Whispers Coffee House." Brrrrr. What fun for those so inclined!

(Carolyn Howard-Johnson's "This is the Place," won eight awards. "Harkening: A Collection of Stories Remember" won two.)

Not bad for a first-time novelist.
A delightful read, this book nonetheless contained several trite characters and contrived situations. Mr. Sammons was best in detailing the loving, often complex relationship between brothers. He telegraphed some plot developments, but overall, I feel he shows promise as a writer. He seems cut from the mold of Southern writers, who seem to enjoy a certain amount of regional popularity. Would someone not of the South like this book? Probably not. And that is the distinction between a good writer of Southern ways and a regional writer. Mr. Sammons is a fine regional writer, but will probably not attain the status of true Southern icons of the literary world.

Extremely Moving!
This book had me laughing one minute and crying incessantly the next. The best I've ever read! We as readers can only hope that Mr. Sammons will enlighten us with future works of art. A truly masterful storyteller!

A Northerner Speaks Out
Although this book is by a Southern author, it's theme is universal. It's a truly touching coming of age story written by a very talented storyteller. I am anxiously awaiting the sequel. I feel compelled to add that although I am currently living in the South, I have lived most of my life in the North and despite this I found this story to be delightful. It is truly one of my favorites.
