Invaluable resource
Metro Atlanta is a gigantic area, and gets bigger every day. I have lived in Atlanta my entire life, but recently, while entertaining out-of-town guests, I realized I didn't really know much about what there is to do in my hometown aside from my own familiar routine.

I thought maybe a guidebook would help me out, so I got the "Newcomer's Handbook for Atlanta." I found all kinds of things for my guests to do -- it became the running joke of their trip to say that someone should "consult the handbook."

Now that my guests are gone, I have discovered that I can't live without it. When my daughter gets bored, I look up the chapters on Cultural Life, Sports and Recreation or Quick Getaways.

I've been considering moving to another part of town lately, and have found the descriptions of each neighborhood very helpful. It gives me information on the school system, neighborhood associations, bus routes and zip codes and the individual neighborhood information is easily cross-referenced with more comprehensive chapters dealing with the schooling options and systems, churches, libraries, shopping areas and more.

As helpful as it is for me, a native Atlantan, I would recommend this handbook to anyone moving here. You may find that you know more about our city than your new Atlanta neighbors.

Practical, user-friendly and complete (except for maps)
Our family is contemplating a move to suburban Atlanta, and we know next to nothing about the area. Having just read this Newcomer's Handbook, I feel much more comfortable and knowledgable about the major neighborhoods, getting around town, the nuts and bolts of settling in (utilities, taxes, etc), and many of the cultural amenities the area has to offer. The only thing I would add is a map with enough detail to visualize what the author is talking about in her "Atlanta Address Locator" tips section. The one map in this handbook is woefully inadequate.

Beautifully written prose that tugs at your every emotion.
In The Patriot, Christopher Davis has managed to express a wide range of feelings, never shutting us out, but inviting us to explore the feelings with him. I could not put it down.

Run Out And Buy This Book!
So poignant and sexy are these poems that it is HARD for me to sit still and not run out and cruise the local park for other like minds in a swoon of poetic frenzy! In a time when poetry is as prim as it is sluggish, this book arrives like the Warholian banana that graces the cover of The Velvet Underground's debut album. A must read!

Amazing
I cannot possible convey how much this book has changed my entire perception of Goergia Politics. I am stupified and would love for anyone else who thinks of themselves as knowledgeable in Georgia politics to read this book. I could not stop turning the pages. I could not wait to see what was going to be on the next page. Thanks, Dr. Lamplugh. Now I truly see why they pay you the big bucks. My eyes are open for the very first time!!!!!

Perhaps the Best Ever Comprehensive Look at Politics in Ga.
A real "page-turner," Politics on the Periphery served as the sole source of enjoyment in my life. And it will for you too! You see, I was on the verge of dieing forom the rare diease, Kolioscosis (the doctors gave me a month at best), but this book gave me a reason to live. Live it said! Live! LIVE! Thank you George Lamplugh. Thank you so very much.

Many artists with many fabulous projects
This book includes projects never before published.
Each project artist submitted their text, project and work samples resulting in a good sampling of diversity for the materials. Georgia Sargeant culled from these submissions the most interesting and with her fine writers' skills polished up the manuscript to present clearly understandable directions and information for many new techniques.
The photographic close ups are extremely helpful in supporting the instructions for each step, making following along a simple and fun process.
I often use this book when I teach polymer clay and Precious Metal Clay programs. My students have found it to be a great resource for the techniques in both media.
I think this is definitely a new classic when it comes to polymer clay and Precious Metal Clay and I'm very honored to have been a part of this project.

This is the book to stir your creative juices!
Its broad spectrum is what makes this polymer clay book exciting. As the title suggests, the projects included in the book explore a wide range of techniques and materials. The first section delves into the construction of some very handsome projects using polymer clay. Georgia Sargeant has selected an excellent variety of items that will appeal to most everyone. The instructions are clear and the photographs stunning. I especially like the fact that she has included variations for each of the techniques.
The second section of the book explores the basics of using silver clay as well as some more detailed projects. Celie Fago is renowned for her work with silver and this book gives her a chance to show what one can create using the clay form of this metal. The fact that silver and polymer clay can be combined to make some unusual and striking projects gives this book an extra dimension.
The Gallery section is truly a feast for the eye, not only for polymer clay aficionados, but for anyone who appreciates beautiful and creative art work.
Well organized and edited, with the help I'm sure of Liva McRee, this is one of those must have books for just about anyone.

Georgia O'keeffe is a true American treasure
Having just seen the Georgia Okeeffe exibition at the Phillips Gallery in Washington, DC, I had to run out and buy a biography to learn more about this incredible artist. This book gives deep personal insight to Ms O'keeffe's life and work.

lending and losing this book should have taught me a lesson
Having read Portrait of an Artist in college I learned to appreciate the talent, determination and self reliance that success requires. It should be required reading for every young woman

Real Cooking

A cook with a beating heart!
Nigel Slater has a great sense of humor and personality to spare. I like knowing what kind of food will "stand up to a cheap bottle of red wine," myself. Though I use only his vegetarian recipes, I haven't had a miss yet. His recipes are simply prepared with ingredients you are likely to have. Most importantly, of course, they are delicious. Reading this book is like having a chat with an old friend. It would make a great gift.

Never Mind Delia Smith
Delia Smith books are a bit of a cooking institution in UK and usually form the foundation of most cook book collections. Endearing image - Delia holding an egg smiling. It's a very useful book but I personally find her style a bit sterile.

Nigel Slater's book on the other hand offers some truly mouth watering and relatively straight forward recipes that will impress at a dinner party. There's none of this "1/2 tsp of Something-you've-never-heard-of-let-alone-know-where-to-buy-it-from" etc and this means his meals are relatively easily shopped for from a good supermarket. This is a rare feature of cook books I find! N. Slater's suggestion for cooking a roast leg of lamb with Rosemary and garlic is the best I have ever tried! This book like Delia's covers a wide range of recipe's and is more of a Jack of all trades book compared with REAL FOOD. If you already like Nigel Slater's style or you're looking for more specialised recipe book with fewer but comprehensive sections on "Chocolate" and "Cheese" then go for the authors REAL FOOD book which is again very inspiring with some excellent photo's.

Throw a dinner party, use the book and your friends will love you forever!

Great recipes for every day and for occasions
This is one of my favorite recipe books. It taught me how to roast a simple, tasty chicken. The roasted vegetable recipes have become regulars for family gatherings. The roasted potato salad is also a new staple for parties. And I still haven't tried everything that I would like to. I find roasting to be a simple way of cooking, with simple ingredients for the most part.

Remarkable Roasting Recipes
This little paperback cookbook contains some of the best roasting recipes I have found. Most recipes are fairly simple and not extremely time consuming and the ingredients are easy to find. The instructions are clearly written and easy to follow and the end results are fabulous. It covers a broad range of cooking from appetizers and soups to main courses, salads and dessserts. I would highly recommend this low key little gem.

A fine work by a fine man. Worth the read!
Harold Clarke is an amazing man. But before one pretends to know him, it is important to know that he voluntarily relinquished his position as the Chief Justice of Georgia's Supreme Court so that Charles Weltner, the great Civil Rights figure of Georgia's past, could become Chief Justice before he died of cancer.

Such an action is typical of Harold Clarke's character. He is an immaculate man of decency, a true southern gentleman. I will defer the fact that he knew my grandfather and cares greatly for my father and even me. The fact is that he is a hero of Georgia's often troubled judicial history, and I love him greatly.

His book is most worthy of being read. I can promise anyone who reads it that you will appreciate Chief Justice Clarke's simple upbringing and his rise to destiny.

- Jeff Berry

A pleasant trip into the past.
A pleasant trip into the past. Runs the gamut of human emotions: Nostalgia, Humor, Sadness. So very reminiscent of when times and places were simpler. I highly recommend it. Very enjoyable reading. E. F. Howard .
