Unbelievable photography
This book conains the most amazing photography imaginable (the authors' companion book Hummingbirds of the Caribbean is just as wonderful). Dazzling colors and awesome stopped-action shots. I can't imagine how it was done.

Highest praise
The wife and husband team of Esther and Robert Tyrrell logged over 30,000 miles of travel to photograph and document the 16 species of North American hummingbirds. Using his own special high-speed strobe techniques, Robert has photographed the tiny colorful birds in a variety of activities flying, perching, and nesting. The book contains over 200 amazing photographs, reproduced in dazzling color. In her text, Esther has culled information from hundreds of sources and provides a comprehensive and well-written overview of the birds' anatomy and behaviors. A must for any bird lover!

A BLESSING!
This book, like all of Michael Youssef's books, is packed with spiritual dynamite that will set your heart afire for Christ. Youssef writes like he preaches, so if you enjoy listening to him preach, you will definitely enjoy this book. In it, Youssef uses his own amazing story and the fascinating story of Elijah to remind his readers that God is indeed in control, even when we are unable to see this truth. The book is insightful and very practical and is a must for those who struggle with depression and disappointment in their Christian walk.

Few preachers have the wisdom that the Holy Spirit has given Youssef, so I would enthusiastically recommend this book. I received the book yesterday and read almost the entire book in one sitting! I would highly recommend this book, along with Youssef's other books.

Finally someone has the answer!
It's unbelievable to find so much wisdom presented so well in such a short book. Michael Youssef doesn't mince any words while sharing what he has learned from Elijah, Esther and from his own experience as well. If you sometimes feel like your life is a mess, and who doesn't, then you will find not just consoling words, but a real answer.

Inspirational wisdom
It's been quite awhile since I have read the Rebbetzin's book but I remember being overawed by the spiritual depth and insight she provides. In The Jewish Soul on Fire, Rebbetzin Jungreis calls on all Jews to reassess their lives and implores them to return to the sanctification and fulfillment of traditional Judaism. It also chronicles her struggle to create the outreach organization, Hineni ("Here I am"), which has been the everyday realization of her message. Rebbetzin Jungreis has spent a lifetime combatting the spiritual holocaust among modern Jews which seemed to follow too closely the heels of the Nazi nightmare. People who have read her more recent work, The Committed Life, will recognize Soul on Fire as its nucleus. Her extraordinary knowledge and experience and passion culminate to produce a work of inspiring and profound wisdom.

Tells it like it is
Amazing ideas in simple language. An uplifting and inspiring boo

Inspirational
I really love this book, Nell is a great role model who likes herself as she trully is. She inspired me to be "real" and not be so critical of my shortcoming i.e. not being perfect, skinny enough, motivated enough, rich enough, smart enough.

I'm lucky to have found this book and think that it would be great for children as an great example of healthy self-esteem and self-acceptance.

Wonderful Book!
Nell makes a great gift book for friends and loved ones. It's a beautiful tome that makes you feel good about yourself! I whole-heartedly recommend this.

The NEW Passport To Survival. 12 Steps to Self-Sufficient Living

THIS IS A MUST HAVE!
If you want to eat healthy, on good tasing foods, and do it cheap this is the book you MUST HAVE. The side benefit is that you will create a more sulf reliant life style that is great for the entire family. This is the book everyone will be getting for gifts this year.

Fantastic Update
Having an earlier 1974 version, I find this new update absolutely fascinating. Rita Bingham continues her mother Esther Dickey's legacy by providing us with the most current information to help us learn provident living. Not only does Ms. Bingham tell us what to do, but how, and where to go for additional information. She tells us how to use that information, and her recipes are wonderful. This is one of only two books that I recommend to my friends who want to be more self-sufficient, the other being "Making The Best Of Basics" by James Talmadge Stevens. This duo is a must have base for anyone wanting to learn more about taking care of themselves.

Powderhouse: Scientific Postscript and Last Protocol

Horrifying and Delightful
POWDERHOUSE is the second installment of Bjorneboe's trilogy,
generally known as "The History of Bestiality." The narrator is
a "renovation worker"--i.e., "sanitation engineer"--at an asylum
for the criminally insane in the south of France. The
institution occupies the buildings of La Poudriere, a former
munitions depot with a stone tower (the powderhouse), which is
surrounded by a large park; the renovation worker occupies one
of the outlying peasant cottages and has a delightful little
sunlit garden. Here he rests from his daily chores, eating
simple but satisfying meals, drinking a variety of wines,
entertaining guests, sometimes smoking hashish, sometimes taking
a hit of [a chemical substance], sometimes enjoying the embraces of a little brown
nurse and every night feeding a friendly hedgehog. His chief
occupation after cleaning the grounds is writing The History of
Bestiality, and his discussions with visitors deal either with
this theme or with the doings of madmen, yet the halcyon air of
the garden lends a pastoral atmosphere to the proceedings, an
idyllic enchantment to recitations of the most zealous campaigns
of carnage in history. Thus paradise, realized here and now, is
contrasted with the hell that has become the wide earth, and the
reading is oddly both horrifying and delightful at the same
time.

Bjorneboe gives more attention to form in this novel. He draws
a series of colorful characters with independent roles, creates
a bit of a ... mystery and devises a mechanism for the
insertion of factual horrors: Dr. Lefevre, the chief of staff,
believes that it is good therapy for residents of the
Powderhouse to deliver and hear lectures on themes that disturb
them. Thus three long lectures are laid out in chronological
order and provide a solid structure to the six-chapter novel,
leaving no gaps, expanses of uncertain time or cessation of
forward movement as in MOMENT OF FREEDOM.

The centerpiece is the second lecture, delivered by an inmate
named Lacroix. It has no title, but might be called "Sympathy
for the Executioner." Speaking from experience, Lacroix reminds
his audience that executioners carry out the will of society;
they are hired for their "special qualifications," paid with
taxpayers' money and approved for their performance. They
execute criminals legally condemned to [end of life] by a court, yet
they are shunned and despised by society. He then bemoans the
difficulty of killing people neatly, especially when they turn
to the executioner and ask for a speedy dispatch. Each method of
execution designed to be merciful, such as long-drop hangings,
beheadings and firing squads, proves to be unreliable, so that
the executed may struggle to live for a long time. For the
executioner these experiences are ultimately debilitating; the
profession brings physical and mental illnesses and often leads
to suicide. Approved by society, the executioner nevertheless
bears the blood of the human race and stands guilty before
humanity and before God; but who, Lacroix cries out in despair,
who thinks of him?

The speech is nothing less than a masterpiece of world litera-
ture, as piercing in its humor as Voltaire's Candide (1759) and
as consistent in its wrong logic as Desiderius Erasmus' In
Praise of Folly (1511). It takes the reader into an extreme
reach of black humor which passes beyond definition--something
way over the top, revoltingly gruesome and wildly hilarious and
close to the quick at the same time. After this, the novel tends
to get preachy, yet it deserves to be read for its entrancing
mood and its flashes of bitter genius. Once again, the work is
beautifully translated by Esther Greenleaf Murer.

Painful but good
I read this book in my early teens, and it made an enormous impression on me. This is the first book in the trilogy "History of bestiality" I read, I have also read the last two. This is painful book to read! Many times I wanted to throw away the book, and forget that all this pain, madness and evil existed, but I couldn't. In many ways I think it changed the way I saw the world. This is book is meant for a more grown up public than I was when I first read it.

Simply wonderful!
This picture book is simply wonderful! I wish I had thought to take pictures like Mrs. Chao during the aftermath of September 11th. So many memories flooded back. I was full of patriotism and American pride when I finally finished paging through the book at 3 o'clock in the morning! Thanks so much for your inspirational pictures!

Beautiful book!
Very beautiful photos of all types of flags, especially American flags. This has some very interesting and unusual pictures of displays of patriotism and some one-of-a-kind shots from Ground Zero. Great book. I recommend it!
