Adorable children's book! Cute, quaint illustrations by the author, Esther Averill, are the icing on the cat...erm...cake! This is a story of love and acceptance, as well as of overcoming feelings of jealousy! A perfect book for a young child with siblings!

Any shy child will receive a tremendous boost from the JennyLinsky books, particularly this book about her birthday. Jenny is agentle New York cat who, in this book, gets swept up by her more rambunctious friends for a moonlight feast and dance in Central Park, in honor of her birthday. There is a delightful Bohemian flavor to this crew of felines: one wears an American Indian headband and feather for no apparent reason. Male cats dance with male cats. And there's something slightly transgressive and empowering about the way they take over the park at night. The text and illustrations are simple, ideal for ages 3 to 8. Jenny is picked up for the birthday by her friend, Pickles the Firecat, in a firetruck. They pick up other cat friends, a bluefish wrapped like a gift, and gather in the park where they all dance the hornpipe. Then they go home, tired and happy, and sing to Jenny Linsky as she gets into bed. That's the whole plot. Yet this book has the slightly mysterious quality that raises a children's book above the mundane and makes it resonate with a child's inner world. It will stay with your child for life. This was a pivotal book in my childhood. My mother painted a mural of Jenny Linsky and her cat friends riding their firetruck on the wall of our basement. I cannot for the life of me understand why it (and the other Jenny Linsky books) is out of print.

The Spanish translation of this French book is deligthful.Nicolas and his friends reflect the joy of being child whitout any sense of guilty. Situations and adventures described in the book are not so clear for a kid. It's a book about children but written for olders. Lots of fun.

Once you have read Johnny Tremain, you will realize that it is a name that will always be with you, for your whole life, no matter where you go, or how you live your life.

You see, Johnny Tremain is not just a regular, common name, but the name of an amazing person, full of bravery, courage, fear, love, confusion, knowledge, and understanding. Despite being a fictional character, he is the kind of person you can just fall in love with by just reading about everything about him that makes him special and unique.

The mystery and magic about Johnny is hypnotic and indulging. You can't not fall in love with him, anticipating his next adventures, feeling his emotions, laughing along with jokes, and just feeling satisfied when you close the book. That is what a classical and historical book is and this book is truly classical and historical.

Johnny Tremain is about an adolesant boy growing up in Colonial Boston, Massachusets. After a terrible accident he is forced to leave his comfortable life style and make it on his own. On the way he encounters many unforgetable adventures and the book ends with a touching resolution in his personal life. I highly recomend Johnny Tremain to anybody who enjoys reading good books. This is a truely a good book.

Just One is both heartwarming and heart-wrenching. This fictionalized account of a true life story takes you right into the home of a young family making a new start in America after the horror of the Holocaust. Young Esther wants so badly to fit in with her classmates; her mother needs to cope with tragedies that readers cannot begin to imagine.

There is much Holocaust literature available but this stands apart in its spiritual side as Esther finds comfort in the presence of her grandmother, for whom she is named. It is beautifully written -- you'll swear that you can smell the cooking -- and emotionally honest. Children of survivors will recognize themselves in Esther Erman's poignant scenes.

I recommend this powerful book. It is at times brutally hard to read, but always gripping, and ultimately there is a sense of survival, achievement, and victory.

The book is a wonderful blend of tips and cultural literacy wrapped up in an English book. The book is presented in a no nonsense approach and really hits the mark! The way the author uses real historical events to reinforce the lessons is a master stroke. I highly recommend this book for any college level student or as a preparatory for high school students too.

This book won the Canadian Governor General's prize (this is the highest litereary prize in Canada). The book is science fiction and set in an alternative reality based on a sort of buddhist heaven and hell world, but primarily hell with its many levels (hot, cold, soft, etc). Lame is the name of the woman who is the main character of the novel. It follows not only the her experiences but also the transcendant changes in her inner self ss she undergoes and survives a variety of harrowing events that force her to become a warrior woman of the underworld who brings about a fundamental revolution in hell changing the quality of the sufferings of the damned. Her ability to prevail which reauires that she becoem the lover of the king of hell goes beyond the standard plucky heroine mode, but requires her to become open to profoundly transformative events and to adapting to them and accepting a fundamental changge in herself -- a change in the hero and in her world which continues throughout the other books in the series. The book has reminescences of Proust's Remembrance of Things Past.The author has a wrting style which is particularly attractive, both enthralling and hallucinatory yet sparse and lucid. I have all of the books in the Life Lessons series, and I also have the Inspirational Study Bible (NKJV). This study, as well as the rest in the series, is very well put together. What I especially love about this is that if you don't have your Bible with you, that's ok. The scripture portion is printed right there in the book. There are 2 columns of scripture for each portion of the study. One column is the NKJV (New King James Version) and the other is NCV (New Century Version). So, you have your choice to read between the 2 of those, or you can read both to see if one version emphasizes things differently. Its a very good idea. There is a question before you begin the lesson to make you ponder something that is related to the lesson which will be presented. Then, you read the portion, then answer questions. The back of the book has answers, or suggested answers, to some of the questions asked. This can be used for personal study, or can be used for group study.

I highly recommend this book, and encourage you to get the others in the series as well.
