Sara and Seth, Solomon's Fine Featherless Friends
Published in Paperback by Abraham-Hicks (01 January, 1999)
Authors: Crown Ministries, Esther Hicks, and Jerry Hicks
Amazon base price: $15.00
Average review score:

This story book makes a wonderful gift for pre-teens and up!
This book teaches readers to trust their own intuition and to develop their own connection to Source, God, All That Is. This book helps children to value their own sense of what's right and wrong FOR THEM and therefore not to be buffeted about by what everyone else in society sees an appropriate behavior FOR THEM. For, as the author says, one cannot stand on one's head in enough ways to please everybody, even if you live in a small town--even pleasing just your own family all the time is not a realistic goal. In short, this book shows children in story form how trusting themselves can better their lives.

Scottish Proverbs
Published in Paperback by Penfield Books (01 June, 1987)
Authors: Julie McDonald, Joan Liffring-Zug, Esther Feske, and John Zug
Amazon base price: $10.95
Average review score:

Proverbs forged in the hearts of the Scots
Scottish Proverbs contains distillations of the Scottish experience in the form of proverbs that have evolved from that experience. Collected by Julie Jensen McDonald beginning with research for her novel The Heather and the Rose, these bits of folk wisdom are reproduced in hand calligraphy adapted to the styles of the seventh-century Insular Half-Unicals and tenth-century Anglo-Saxon Miniscule, both from the manuscript The Lindisfarne Gospels. Printed single-sided, each page is a work of art worthy of framing. Illustrations include the Scottish Lion, a celtic cross from Iona, a fictional clan badge from the family of Nessie, the Loch Ness monster, and on the cover, a Luckenbooth pin designed to win the heart of Mary Queen of Scots. The cover plaid is Black Stewart.

Julie Jensen McDonald, related by marriage to the great Clan Donald, is the author of more than a dozen published books, including novels, a biography and a volume of regional history. Esther Feske, calligrapher and graphic designer from ALbuquerque, New Mexico, relates to the family of Oglevie and was also the designer for Julie McDonald's prize-winning Scandinavian Proverbs.

This collection-sometimes rueful, other times philosophical, occasionally humorous and always practical- gives an insight to the people and their experience. Throughout this book are the words of Robert Burns, the immortal poet of Ayr, who wrote many a line that sounds like, and has become a proverb. His down-to-earth insights have been passed from generation to generation with the same enduring verity as the proverbs forged in the hearts of the Scots.

A life changer
I attended a week long retreat where we used this book as a guide. I am not a very religious person at all, but this book changed my life. Merton challenges us to die to our false selves, to open our hearts to God and to accept contemplation of the mystery of God and his creations as the center of our lives. As an introduction to Merton and as a daily spiritual guide, this book is priceless.

Signos para el inglés exacto: a book for Spanish speaking families of deaf children in schools using Signing Exact English
Published in Paperback by Modern Signs Pr (1983)
Authors: Cargill, Brown, and Esther Zawolkow
Amazon base price: $14.95
Average review score:

Spanish version of the Signing Exact English dictionary
This is a helpful resource for Spanish-speaking families of hearing impaired kids who use Signing Exact English in school. It is a shortened version of Signing Exact English, containing only about one-fourth the number of signs in the comprehensive dictionary. Vocabulary words are indicated in both English and Spanish and a description of how to make the sign is written in Spanish. Words are grouped by category (parts of the body, animals, verbs, etc.). An English-Spanish and Spanish-English index helps locate words and signs quickly and easily.

The book would be helpful to teachers in selecting words for spelling lists. Words in the list could be written in both English and Spanish to aid Spanish-speaking parents in looking up the signs at home and then being able to work with and quiz their children on their spelling words.

The Sovereigns: A Jewish Family in the German Countryside (Jewish Lives)
Published in Hardcover by Northwestern University Press (2001)
Authors: Eric Lucas and Esther Lucas
Amazon base price: $60.00
Average review score:

An excellent portrayal of Jewish life in rural Germany
Lucas' description of his extended family and community in pre-WWII rural Germany is one of the few published descriptions of small town Jewish life in Germany. Most memoirs of German Jewish life have been written by people from urban areas. This memoir is a unique window on a lost world.

Spells of Mortal Weaving
Published in Paperback by Avon (1986)
Authors: Esther Friesner and Esther M. Feiesner
Amazon base price: $2.95
Average review score:

Great book!
Spells of Mortal Weaving is a well written, interesting story. It shows different people without making it confusing, and soon after shows you how they tie in with the main story line. If you like fantasy books, this is a perfect choice. I would recommend finding the first book in the series (Mustapha and His Wise Dog) but you can still read it if you don't have access to the first book. I liked this book because it gives you a glimpse into a magical world and makes it seem real. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!!

Splash The Living Water Turning Daily Interruptins Into Life-giving Encounters

Author: Esther Burroughs
Amazon base price: $12.99
Average review score:

"Splash" is a Smash!
Splash the Living Water is an excellent resource book for anyone desiring more out of his/her relationship with God. As one reads this book it is as though Mrs. Burroughs is right there sharing her life stories in person with you, encouraging you to give more of yourself to God. If you are desiring a practical guide to sharing God's love in ordinary life, this book is for you! There are study questions at the end of each chapter and many great references for more, in-depth study, which I enjoyed.

Teach Yourself Rexx in 21 Days
Published in Paperback by Sams (1994)
Authors: William F. Schindler and Esther Schindler
Amazon base price: $29.99
Average review score:

By far the best book for OS/2 REXX programming ever.
I have about 4 other books on OS/2 REXX, they are either too easy, poorly written with bad illustrations or un-organized. With this book, I believe the learning curve is very smooth and the book is extremely well organized. You can read the book from front to back (really, in about a months time) and be a real expert on OS/2 REXX. Good illustrations and very simple language. The book emphasizes "hands-on" learning by not including a disk of all the programs listed in the book. This may be the only downfall of the book, but still a big thumbs up. If you're going to buy one book on OS/2 REXX programming, this is it!
