The best romance novel I have ever read
Ibbotson creates truly wonderful characters---Susanna, the heroine of this novel, is the best of her creations. Susanna's romance isn't a perfect one (whose is?) and the story has rather sad moments but Ibbotson creates, as always, a world which any reader would want to visit. Her sly comments on political radicalism (in the form of Nini, the anarchist model/seamstress who works in Susanna's shop) are wonderful---too bad more earnest political writers never encountered Nini or thought more deeply about how difficult it can be to want "the revolution" while looking pretty... Everyone to whom I have lent the book has loved it and wants to buy a copy (I'm more than a bit worried that I may lend this book out and never get it back).

A slice of life
I found this to be a delightful read-a gentle, easy read and a fascinating microcosm of life in Vienna just prior to W.W.1.Our heroine owns a dress shop in a quaint city square, peopled by characters from various walks of life. It's not a book to strain anyones concentration as it flows along so pleasantly and is just what one could call"a nice little read".I don't mean that to sound patronising but it's a feel good read which I hope that others will enjoy.

A fun & entertaing read !
Set in pre-World War 1 Vienna, Madensky Square by Eva Ibbotson takes you into the world of Susanna Weber,a dress shop owner,as she begins her diary on the first day of spring 1911.Filled with a rich cast of secondary characters and sub-plots the pace never becomes dull. From her chief assistant(an anarchist)to the strange assembly of friends, customers & neighbors you become as involved in their world as if they were people you knew.A great weekend read.

Darling yet clever story
What a shame that this book is out of print. We've checked it out from our library at least three times and my 1 year old and 3 year old love it. I think it's the best of the "Sam" series. It has darling interaction between Sam and Doggie, with none of the tears in some of the other stories. It also have a clever ending that makes my older child laugh. I'd love to buy a copy for our home, but hesitate to pay the $..... dollars that used book sellers are asking.

Sam's Wagon
Not only is this a good book for toddlers, but it remains a favorite as your child gets older and begins to read. The words in this book are repeated. The pictures provide hints to unfamiliar words. My 5 year old son feels quite proud when he reads this book to our family!

Great book for young toddlers just starting to grasp humor.
My 20 month old son loves Sam's Wagon. The sentences are short and to the point "Sam has a wagon." as Sam loads up his wagon with his (and most toddlers) favorite things. Then the doggie has to keep rescuing each item as it falls out until the last two pages when the doggie has to "rescue" the cookie that has fallen out. My son laughs at every reading and anticipates each item being put in and falling out of the wagon. And I like it well enough to be able to read it to him 3 times daily for the past 2 months. That's worth 5 stars in my opinion.

I'll never forget this book!
For some reason this book has stuck with me for years. I just want to recomend reading this book to anyone who has not read it! IT's wonderful!

probably the book i've enjoyed most
i have also lost this book after having lent it to friends too often, since then i look for it whenever i'm abroad, a book that makes you laugh and cry at the same time, it is a story of a writer of hymns, married to a computer nerd, her gay friends, her mother, and of course her love affair with the karate instructing opera singer, bizar and wonderful story. i thoroughly enjoyed this book, i continue to hope it will be reprinted.

Funniest, most engaging book I read in the 1980s!
I lost this book after lending it to countless friends, and I've thought of it often over the past decade. It is fiercely feminine, while it retains its femininity; the story makes you laugh even as you feel Eva's longing and pain. Her mother and her lover are real, flawed and entirely believable. And, above all, women get a sense of perspective on the things we THINK we want and those we don't. I've never felt this way about a character, and I've read MANY books. After all these years, I miss my brave yet scared; religous yet irreverent; funny and articulate Eva.

Someone out there please bring her back.

A great addition of any bookshelf
This marriage of poetry and illustrations is like no other. As an educator I enjoy the layout of the book. The poems are divided into categories such as poems about weather, spooky poems, and animal poems. The illustrations are by Caldecott Medal artists - the best of the best! I have purchased countless copies of Sing a Song of Popcorn as it is a perfect gift to give to families to celebrate the arrival of a new baby. It is a book that all members of the family can enjoy - the young ones will enjoy the rhyming patterns of some of the poems and the silliness of others. The adults will treasure the inclusion of such classic poems as Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and Jack Prelutsky's entertaining "The Spaghetti Nut".

Collection of fantastic poems
You don't have to be a certain age to enjoy this book, full of wonderful poems from various well known poets. There is a poem for every walk of life in this book. This book is sure to be on your shelf for many years to come!

An excellent resource for elementary teachers :)
I thoroughly enjoyed this collection of poetry and the beautiful illustrations which accompany. As a kindergarten teacher, I found the anthology to be an invaluable resource for introducing young children (or any children) to the world of poetry. :

Excellent guide to get to know your inner self
Excellent step by step guide to get to know one's inner self. The exercises at the end of each chapter are very powerful. I recommend this book very highly to those who really want to progress in their self development.

This is the "User Manual" for living
Susan Thesenga writes clearly in an honest and down-to-Earth way. This book has the capacity to change a life.

Although you can read this book any way you want, for me this wasn't a read it once and put it on the shelf kind of book.

Every time I've read it I've come away with another "Ah HA!" concerning the distortions and truths of my life. If you've found this book while browsing the web, I suggest it may have found you! Go for it!

This book is an excellent tool for self-transformation.
When I read The Undefended Self, I found it to be a really helpful tool on my path of self-transformation.

The book is well-written and easy to understand. The concepts it covers are important and profound. The exercises at the end of each chapter are a powerful opening to self-knowledge. I would recommend that anyone interested in self-development, or anyone suffering in life without understanding why, buy this book, read it and do all of the exercises. It really will change your life.

My Favorites books in the world!
I have read all four of Eva Bell Werber's books...all in the
same vein. They have been carried with me to the point of
being in tatters from muliple useage. If you are the kind
of person that would like your own tender loving guide whispering
in your ear whenever you are in doubt, fear, or frantic...just
turn randomly to any page with the question in your heart and
the RIGHT answer will ALWAYS emerge. Its uncanny.
I have purchased all her books about 3 times now...either due
to over use or giving as gifts.

more precious than all the gold in the universe is this,
I Am, forever gratefull to Eva Bell Werber, & Devoress press for putting forth this reflection of Gods love. I Am inspired to relate to you the joy I realize as a result of the inner revelations that come from reading this manual for overcoming mortality. If you wish to discover the truth of your divine nature, and realize yor part in Gods plan, and walk a path of spiritual power and purpose, then I Am recomending strongly that you read this book. Your life will become an effortless journey of joy as you unfurl like a cosmic flower in the life giving rays of Gods love. This is more than just a book, it must be experienced to realize what I Am trying to impart. Farewell And God bless you on your journey up the sunlit path of realization. - - In love, - I Am

one of the most inspiring books of our time!
Ms. Werber's book--and series thereof--offers a clear path for truth seekers of all faiths. Her work also predates Mr. Neale Donald Walsch (Conversations With God) by some forty years.

Whale Watch Warning!
When Mrs. Frizzle has planned a field trip for a whale watch and the tour boat can't go, they use the bus. The kids get partners and go in mini-subs to see real whales. But it will be hard for the kids to come back right where they started when the radio system breaks? Will the kids run out of air and never come back again? Find the answer and learn a lot about whales in The Wild Whale Watch!

A Wild book on Wild Whales
This review is by my 10 year old son. This book has moreinformation on Whales than other books I have read. First they go on abus tour. Then they turn the bus into a sub. Ms. Frizzle, Has four mini-subs. Two kids went in each sub. Ms. Frizzle, stayed in the bus with the Captain Gil. Then the adventure begins. I enjoyed this book very much.

Fantastic
This Magic School Bus Chapter Book is the best of the firstfour. It was very funny, especially when the class gets stranded underthe sea. Any MSB fan would love it.

Oooh, I love this.
This book absolutely covers everything a writer could possibly want to know about writing and selling to magazines. It is a point-by-point easy to follow guide and a goldmine of great innovative ideas from a fellow author who knows her stuff. I highly recommend this book for any writer or anyone hoping to break into the writing field.

Concise and readable advice.
I read this book, followed the advice, and got published. Unlike some dry how-to books, this one is a breeze to read. It focuses on the low-tech approach of mailing out queries and manuscripts - I suppose some people do it all online now.

A great book!
I had never sold any writing before reading this book and sold about 8 "how to articles" to magazines after reading it. Eva has a newer book out on this subject now, that I have not read yet but it has great reviews. This is a "how to" book that really gives results!

The least pretentious homeschooling book I've read
I wasn't expecting very much when I picked up Ms. Seibert's book. What I got was an insightful and honest look into educational alternatives and how I can take the education of my children into my own hands. The author presents the material in a very down to earth and straightforward manner. It was a quick and fascinating read that I reccomend to all my friends. Thank you Ms. Seibert. You've helped me more than you can know.

Very inspiring!
Mrs. Seibert has done a great job of presenting her story in this book. Even though the book is more of a biography, many good ideas can be derived from it. It has made me think seriously about the education of my children. Bravo!

Baby's garden
A Baby's Garden "Introducing Your Baby to the Joy of the Garden" Elizabeth St. Cloud Muse Illustrated by: Eva Saull Published by: Little, Brown and Company 2001 ISBN: 0-316-60873-4 Nonfiction

"A Baby's Garden" is a lovely way for gardening parent's to introduce their love of horticulture and nature with their most precious new addition. The opening page has a frame to put the little one's picture in. Each section has a list of suggested activities followed by pages to record your adventures in. The cutest thing is a place to put babies muddy handprints during different stages of their growth. Babies love the chance to get dirty without Mom or Dad panicking. There are a couple of pages in the back with wax paper type envelopes attached where you can press the child's first flowers, leaves, etc. As a gardener I believe this would be a wonderful way to explore the garden with your infant and allow both parent and child to experience the joys of the garden and continue learning

Busy Mommy of 2 boys who love the garden
What a great idea! My boys love to be in the garden with me, talking about the things that we discover there. I will always cherish the time we spend in the garden, and what better way to remember it. The illustrations are adorable. :)
