Franklin's Special Blanket
I recently had my 3 and 5 year old grandchildren move back into my house and had a terrible time getting them to go to bed. The first night I read this to them a two hour ordeal became ten minutes. The three year old slept with the book in her arms and carried it out her bed in the morning. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Charming and sweet confection in a ripped bodice world.
Eva Ibbotson is a wonderfully charming writer with memorable and funny characters. Yes, as the review above states, her stories are as light and sweet as the Viennese desserts she often refers to, but her heroines are not sacharine or dull. But, let's face it, who would you rather spend your afternoon with: charming, witty and fun characters or someone from Hannibal? Ibbotson developes characters with personalities you want to meet and know. I highly recommend Glove Shop as well as any and all of her books, her adult ones as well as her juvenile fiction. Let's face it, if you like books filled with "throbbing and panting" or congealed blood Ms. Ibbotson is not the writer for you.

Compelling Memoir
A scrupulous,heart-rending account of a Jewish childhood in Slovakia during WWII. Eva Gossman and some of her family were saved from hideous local anti-semitism and the Nazi onslaught by a Slovakian woman and her daughter, who sheltered and fed them. It is a shattering portrait of terror and of the redemptive power of love. Gossman does not pretend to remember everything clearly, but what she does recall is enormously powerful.

Guide Lectures for Self-Transformation

Here's what is written on the back of the book
Communications with spiritual realms can take many forms and be of varying clarity and quality. One way to discern the value of a person's connection with the inner worlds is to observe the positive effects, if any, that result from that communication. The Pathwork has been a most positive of such a contact, helping many people find a deeper truth and clarity in their lives; therefore, the energy and spirit embodied in these transmissions that gave birth to the Pathwork deserve our consideration, for they have demonstrated their value in the blessings they have already made possible. - David Spangler (Eva Pierrakos never considered herself the author of these lectures. She felt she was an instrument for a spirit whom she called "The Guide." She also urged readers not to be too interested in the source but to focus on the extraordinary material itself.)

Excellent!
Health, longevity, immortality, and spiritual transformation are the concerns of Taoist alchemy. The Dragon Tiger Classic and its commentaries from the Tai Hsuan section of the Taoist canon are regarded as the most complete guide to spiritual transformation. It describes the ingredients, the catalysts, the equipment, the nature of the physiological transformations, and the schedule of the firing process needed to initiate the alchemical interactions. Composed of spare mnemonic character sets, and encoded as a simultaneous manual for external, sexual, and internal alchemy, it is challenging and difficult work to translate, one that the author approaches as a practicing adept.

Great book!
I really enjoyed this book. Not only have I learned a great deal about my health and my body, but it also has great recipes. I've tried most of the recipes with great success, they have delighted me as well as company for more formal dinners.
One of the book's great qualities is its clarity, explaining how your metabolism works and how you can bring your body to its optimum capability and health while enjoying delicious foods. I highly recomment it!

Hidden Allusions in Shakespeare's Plays: A Study of the Early Court Revels and Personalities of the Times

Masterpiece
Ever read something in Shakespeare and think, "Now what does THAT mean?" She's got the answer. Those little in-jokes are finally explained. "You are a fishmonger." If you think the glover's son from the boondocks wrote the Plays, you'd be in the dark forever as to what Hamlet meant. If you think that the Plays were written by the Earl of Oxford, the answer is plain as day. And so on. A play-by-play exegesis of unexplainable passages; it's as if the Earl himself is explaining "what he meant."

I bought this book from the publisher, via the Shakespeare-Oxford Society. I don't think I paid as much; seek them out.

This book should be in every library in creation. And your personal one.

A 14th Century Bible - in 300 reproductions
This is not an analysis of an illuminated manuscript. There is a very short historical introduction but the core of the book consists of the minatures and a text that puts the illustrations in scriptural context. For example, the first illustration has a haloed figure leaning against a blue disk with a darker center with a bird flying toward the earth which forms the core of the disk. The accompanying text reads "Jehovah created the heavens and the earth. After separting them from the waters he formed the blue disk of the firmament, and, in its midst, he drew from the darkness the yellowish globe of our earth ..." The story continues through the end of Maccabees i.e. the Greek Hebrew Scripture. This is an absolutely fascinating look into the interpretation of scripture through art.
