I am sorry by the language, please, corretc before, OK. PS: I don't know if pictures are the correct word, the atlas has colored designs, ok

B&O Great Photos: A Portfolio

Excellent photo album of B&O railroadiana!
If you are a devotee of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad as I am, then you'll love this compilation of photos from earlier volumes dedicated to the work of noted B&O photographers Bob Lorenz, John C. Kelly, E. L. Thompson, Herbert H. Harwood, Jr. and Howard N. Barr, Sr. This book photographically documents operations primarily on the B&O East and West Ends during the days of steam, with a chapter each on operations in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The book concludes with an all-color section on CSX operations on the old B&O East and West Ends as far as Grafton, WV, and nearby branch lines.

Again, if you're a B&O fan, the price of this book is worth every penny and the wait for it to arrive.

B-24 Units of the Fifteenth Air Force
As a WW2 vetereran who served in the Fifteenth Air Force as a member of the ground crew, this book has been a long time coming. As a history book or a book of memories for those who were there, it is a welcome addition to everyone's collection. It's accuracy in every detail, be it text or illustrations, is beyond reproach. It would have been nice to dedicate the book to those comrads of ours who didn't come home. Maybe now, it will be known that the air war in Europe was fought just as valantly from Italy as it was from England.

Excellent introductory new age primer
This book does an excellent job at providing an introductory overview of a large number of "new age" topics in an easy-to-read style. Reincarnation, crystals, chakras, channeling, meditation, auras, lost civilazations and the evolution of religion are covered clearly and simply. The authors (Bartlett and Whiteheart) have many years of experience in the subjects they discuss, and their passion and enthusiasm shines through!

The Brooklyn Film: Essays in the History of Filmmaking

A Fantastic Blend of the Scholarly and the Historical
This text is a success, largely due to the fine work of Robert Singer. His work as a film scholar is well represented here in this collection of critical studies of the Brooklyn film. Manbeck's strong work as the official historian of Kings County serves as a fine counterbalance to the analytical approaches put forth by the film scholars. All in all, the text is easy to read, and a must for the true Brooklyn afficianado.

Brotherly Love
In this charming book for children, two brothers grow up learning to care for one another. This relationship carries over into adulthood, when, faced with a severe famine, they still want to share their bounty with the other. It is a wonderful story for children, especially for brothers.

Quirky, twisty action and humor
If you love Sam Spade, Archie Goodwin, and Mike Hammer, chances are you'll love Peter B. Bruck, Robert Iles' detective in this book. When Bruck isn't drinking, he's hung over; when he isn't romancing a dame, he's thinking about it; when he isn't wise-cracking...well...when he isn't wise-cracking, he's unconscious. Bruck is not just another hard-boiled private eye, and he's a blessed relief from the new stereotype of hard-boiled *angst-ridden* private eye. Bruck doesn't dwell on his problems, and he isn't haunted by anything but the occasional hangover, alimony demands from his ex-wife, and the insistance of his secretary, Ella, that he toss out his screw-top "first aid kit" and get respectable. An enjoyable read, from first to last.

Business Process Implementation for IT Professionals and Managers
Published in Digital by Artech House ()
Author: Robert B. Walford
Amazon base price: $79.00
Average review score:

Interesting multi-layered approach
This book is a comprehensive blueprint for translating business processes into applications to enable those processes. The author approaches this challenging and complex undertaking by framing the blueprint within the context of the development life cycle.

A few key items about the approach: (1) it's based on data and models, which is a correct approach in my opinion, (2) it fully supports component-based architectures, which in turn, promote reusability, and (3) it does not end with release - the author addresses post-deployment issues.

The heaviest emphasis given in this book is on modeling, which depends greatly on requirements management and validation. I especially like the emphasis given to business rules because I believe them to be the best way of documenting and expressing requirements. The reason for this is business rules are expressed in a logical manner and are elicited directly from the intended users. Moreover, well expressed business rules are testable, which means that verification and validation can begin early in the life cycle of an application or system. However, business rules are but one aspect of the approach - the author prescribes an integrated set of models (process, scenario, role, workflow) that enable you to capture the business process being automated from a number of views that will be integrated into requirements and specifications, and translated into the application which will support it. I also like the fact that important milestones, such as test and release to production, are accounted for in the approach.

As much as I like this approach, I am not sure that many organizations will adopt it in its entirety because of the numerous competing methodologies that have found homes (at least in name and lip service) in larger companies. It's the larger companies that typically embark on projects of the magnitude described in this book. However, even if the entire approach is not adopted, many components of the author's approach can certainly be adapted to fit within any methodology. Also, some of the boutique consulting companies might find this approach useful because if it's followed with a strong commitment to *completely* perform in accordance with the author's methods it can be used as a differentiator in a competitive bid.

Ray is a genius
A Certain Tendancy of the Hollywood Cinema is without doubt one of the finest books that I have ever read. Ray enlightens and entertains like a true master. Ray's crisp prose opens up a new world of understanding and thought about Hollywood. He makes old ideas seem new while providing new ones. Anyone who has ever seen a movie should read this book. After reading this book, you will never view the silver screen the same way again. Movies will become infinitly more enjoyable as you understand them on the deepest levels of their creators. A Certain Tendancy of the Hollywood Cinema is a true tour de force.
