A Hero Who Wrote my Letters Home
I have read this book and I felt I was reading the letters I wrote home to my wife and family. I served in the same unit as
George T. Farawell Company D. 4TH./ 12TH 199TH LIB and though
I never met him when Patty contacted me to see if I could help her find the men who served with him I went on a mission to help.
The way the book was presented it was awsome. It made my heart cry, and my mind wonder all the what if's The Redcatchers love
you and your family Patty.

A Redcatcher's Letters from Nam
I just finished reading the book. It was very touching and I couldn't help my emotions to show. I read that book in one breath and even though I don't know you and I wasn't lucky enough to know or hear about your brother until now I can tell that he was a great person. I really felt that I have to write to you and let you know that the book shows the hell that the young men had to go through and never have a chance to live their lives. It also shows the grief and pain of the loving family after loosing somebody so close. It was a great idea to share your memories. Because of that I know that long time ago, before I was even born (I'm 24) and before I came to America (I came from Poland 10 years ago), there was a wonderful young men who was really brave and who will be remembered by his family, friends and everybody who reads your book.

Tribute to a Brother
"A Redcatcher's Letters From Nam" is a heartfelt presentation of a family's loss.

George T. Farawell was a young man from New Jersey who died in Viet Nam. This book, written by his sister, is a touching blend of the past and present, enveloped by the emotional struggle of dealing with a tragic loss.

The story is simple yet powerful. A synopsis of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade is a fitting tribute to all those who served in it's ranks. Snapshots of what is was like growing up in an industrial New Jersey town identify George as a person like many of us. Reflections of family and friends exemplify the pain and sadness and loss all of George's friends and family experienced as a result of his death.

The essence of this book, however, is exactly what the title tells us. It is the almost daily letters George wrote home during his tour in Viet Nam that are the highlight. These make George come to life for all of us who read them. They are personal but are presented in their original content and by reading them we realize the type of person George was.

I highly recommend reading this book. It is a correct and fitting tribute to a young man who completed his duty as a soldier. Indeed, it is a tribute to all those who have served honorably in the ranks of our nation's armed services. It makes us realize the struggles we must endure to preserve our humanity.

Very good book, specially to read to your childs
Patricia writes here an interesting story that happens in Jesus times. The book is very interesting and at the same time it brings a clear and clean message about the Lord's teachings. I would recommend this to you if you want to read a book for yourself or for your kids.

Good but not teriffic (like some of her other books)
Philo is a boy in the first century (Jesus's time). His sister is posessed by a demon. Because he can't stand to be at home anymore, he runs away and he learns about Jesus and he is never the same again. This book has a great ending. (I don't want to spoil the surprise.)

Some interesting insights into the ministry of Jesus Christ
This book is historical fiction. It takes place during the time of Christ's ministry in Palestine. It gives powerful imagery of those times and events. Even more powerful are inspiring insights into certain specific events such as His ministry in the regions of Samaria, Tyre and Sidon as well as the casting out of evil spirits into a herd of swine and the calming of the Sea of Galilee. I feel grateful and uplifted to have found this book.

The perfect finale to a wonderful series
This is IMO the best of Veryan's novels -- and that's saying something! She brings back many beloved characters to give the Sanguinet Saga a superb, breath-taking, action-packed, at times laugh-out-loud-funny finish. Charity and Mitchell are a wonderful match, and the growth of their relationship is handled beautifully. Having gotten to know these characters, and the pain in their pasts, through previous novels just makes their romance all the sweeter. I can't begin to count the number of times I've read it. I can open it to any page and immediately be entranced. FIND THIS BOOK!!!

Sheer Perfection!
This is, quite simply, superb entertainment. Charity Strand, a lady of little beauty but lots of intelligence and personality, must help Mitchell Redmond save England from certain disaster. As they gallop on a forced march from Scotland to Brighton, riding against the clock to save the life of the Prince Regent, the two slowly fall in love. The romance is sweet and believable, and the adventure definitely adds to it rather than being superfluous subplot. Patricia Veryan has crafted an absolutely wonderful tale of love and intrigue. Highly recommended for all lovers of Regency romance.

A Good Book
Sanguinet's Crown is a very funny novel. It is a joy to read. The quick wit that both Charity and Mitchell have lends a nice blend of humor to the book. You can not help but love the quick light plot. It is one of my favorite light romances of all time.

A FASCINATING BOOK ABOUT SOME FASCINATING WOMEN
My sister sent me a copy of this book as a birthday gift. I'll thank her forever! Nellie, our heroine, touches the heart and mind of the reader. She overcame so many obstacles in life and always left me laughing -- or crying, whatever the situation was. Pat, her daughter and author, had me spellbound from beginning to end. What a pair they were! I'd love to see this book made into a TV series or a big screen movie. It's that good. I can hardly wait to see what Patricia J. Geister writes next. She's my latest addition to a list of favorite authors.

Great Story
This book will pull you in from the beginning. A great true story that will make you laugh and cry. A must read!

great book
I have read this book, I own this book.

The Joe Hannon, in this book, happens to be my grandfather.
I learned things about him, and Nellie ( Pat Giester's mother ) I didn't know.

This is an empowering book to read. A must read for anyone who loves adventure.

Concise but thorough review of Anatomy and Physiology
This book is great if you don't like reading long textbooks. It's easy to read and makes Anatomy and Physiology more interesting. I was recommended this book from a friend who used this book and another study guide and got over a 90 average. The other two books I highly recommend are the following:
Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (Vol 1) ISBN: 0971999619
Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (Vol 2) ISBN: 0971999627
The last two study guide showed me the kind of questions I saw on my college exams. My friend was right. I used these 3 books and also got an "A" in my college A and P class.

Good Resource for Applying Your Knowledge
I just completed my first semester of Anatomy and Physiology.

Everyone had told me that "repetition, repetition, repetition" was the key to getting the grade in this class. Our textbook did have a handful of review questions at the end of each chapter and the CD-ROM included also had quizzes to take.

I was doing the questions and quizzes, like everyone else in my class, but kept getting lower than desirable marks on my nearly daily quizzes.

After I bought this book and studied from it, I saw a dramatic increase in my scores. My lab partner was shocked that I had done so much better than her. She is a fast learner and typically gets perfect scores. I told her about this outline, she immediately bought a copy, and together we both finished the course with A's.

I think it is important to test your knowledge by applying it. The more resources, the better. If you are like me, you easily tire at looking at the same pages over and over. This book gave organized summaries and had excellent Q&A's.

At the price of around $12, it is worth the money!

FABULOUS! Exactly what you want!
Truly a great find! I use it to review for my midterms and finals with great results. Really feel it has kept my B+ average from sliding. Concise, to the point, and all the best parts of my text book in 10 pages or less, per chapter. Fully solved exercises could be a bit more extensive (only 6-8 multiple choice questions per chapter) but I won't look this gift horse in the mouth. Giving this to my friend who is one quarter behind me, with my full recommendation.

One of the few truly outstanding education books.
With over ten years as a primary, intermediate, and junior high teacher, I have read lots of education books. This may end up being the book that helps me the most in helping improve myself as an educator, and in helping the school improve itself. This book was jam-packed with great ideas of what truly makes a good school. "Schools That Work" is geared for both principals, teachers, and anyone else in the education field. After reading this it makes for a great reference book. The book is well organized into the different components that make a good school. Also, it has great book, magazine, and web resources throughout the entire book. In short, buy this book without hesitation--it is that good!

A MUST HAVE BOOK
Allington and Cunningham provide excellent insight as to what all schools need to ensure quality instruction to students. This book is a must for all educators, especially administrators. I am a Special Education teacher and a graduate student. I refer to this text often.

Insightful book on how to help all children become literate
With over fifty combined years of experience between them, educational researcher/ consultants Richard Allington and Patricia Cunningham have many ideas to offer in their new book, Schools That Work: Where All Children Read and Write. The book is a natural follow-up to their first collaborative effort, Classrooms That Work: They Can All Read and Write. It is lengthy, but highly engaging, and offers practical, research based ideas for those who envision and want to work toward moving their school or school system toward being one where all children become literate. Because American society has changed, and is changing, at such a rapid pace, Allington and Cunningham contend that the current organizational structure of schools, while being well intentioned, is outdated. Existing structures do not effectively meet the needs of all children, especially those who are at the highest risk of school failure. Therefore, they believe that educational interventions that offer "more of the same" will not work to fix the inadequacies in today's schools. Because many schools are stuck, looking toward traditional solutions, huge amounts of federal and state money are being poured into educational programs such as developmental kindergarten, transitional K-1 classes, retention, and remedial, resource and bilingual programs that aren't effective in helping all at risk learners learn to read and write. Throughout the twelve chapters of the book, examples of effective large and small-scale school restructuring efforts in real schools are described. These descriptions are very helpful in illustrating the authors' key points. Models such as the Coalition of Essential Schools, Success For All, the Accelerated Schools Model, Reading Recovery, School Power and Schools for the 21st Century are included. Chapters of the book are organized around central themes of school organizational plans such as instruction, professional roles, allocation of time, parent involvement, assessment and curriculum materials. I will briefly summarize these chapters to give an overview of their content. In the chapter on curriculum, Cunningham and Allington offer many ideas for getting real reading material into the hands of children. Popular methods of literacy instruction are also described, but it is clear that the authors do not believe there is one best way to teach reading and writing. Instead, they advocate for quality instruction delivered in a multifaceted approach. This position is similar to that taken in Best Practices in Literacy Instruction, edited by Gambrel, Morrow, Neuman and Pressley, a resource text for teachers of literacy. Allington and Cunningham then go on to describe essential components of quality literacy instruction. One of the important points of the book is that "good schools are a collection of good classrooms" and that the job of everyone who works at a school is to support and enhance classroom instruction. An important point is made that while most instruction for at risk students slows down the pace of instruction, what is most effective is accelerating their learning through more and better instruction so that they are able to catch up with their peers. Concerning the issue of how instructional time is used; a chapter is devoted to describing effective classroom management practices that maximize the amount of time available for actual reading and writing. Innovative ways of creating more instructional time such as allowing teachers to work on flexible schedules opens up the possibility of students receiving extended amounts of instruction before and after school, in Saturday School and summer school. In the chapter on assessment, strategies for evaluating literacy programs and progress are given. Ideas for utilizing authentic assessments such as observational records, writing samples, narrative comments, interviews, self-evaluations, portfolios and anonymous student testing are presented.

Because schools can change only as fast as the instructional practices of teachers change, Allington and Cunningham devote a chapter to advice for supporting the professional development of teachers. The authors believe that systems need to allocate greater amounts of their resources toward professional development, as well as offer administrative and collegial support in order for teachers to remain life long learners who continually develop new areas of expertise. As our changing society affects schools, it affects families too. Most children now come from single parent families or families where both parents work. Because the authors believe that schools cannot be fully effective without parent support and involvement, ideas for improving parent outreach programs are described. Innovative ways to improve communication between schools and families, involve parents in school decision making processes, and create family literacy programs and interagency family support services that help break cycles of illiteracy and poverty are provided. A chapter is set aside for offering additional ideas for developing the literacy skills of special populations of children, such as those with learning disabilities and those who speak English as a second language. In another chapter, a tour is given through a hypothetical school that reflects some of the basic themes in the book. Readers are then prompted to take a tour through their own school and look for examples of effective practices they would like to see more of, as well as ineffective practices they would like to see decreased. The final chapter of the book offers some relief to the reader, who may at this point be overwhelmed with the scope and scale of school restructuring that needs to be done. Allington and Cunningham caution, though, that there are no quick fixes in education, and that successful reform efforts are done gradually with the long view in mind. Restructuring often begins with a small group of people, or even with one person at a school. Is that person you? Do you believe that all children can learn to read and write, and would you like to help them do so? If you think so, this book could be an invaluable resource that gets you thinking about large-scale changes by starting small. Read it and pass it along to someone in your school, as someone in my school passed it along to me. Who knows what might happen next?

Book That Keeps On Giving
I bought this book so my husband could make christmas presents for our kids with his new scroll saw. I couldn't get him out of his shop. He found out what kind of wood to buy, how to use his new saw, and he made the coolest puzzles - much more original than anything I've seen in stores. The kids love their puzzles and play with them all day. I can't wait to see what else he creates from this book.

Good fun!
I am a beginner with the scroll saw and I wanted some easy and rewarding projects to start with. This book really fit the bill.

Can't wait to give away these puzzles!
We are beginners with a scroll saw and came across this book. It is terrific! It gives a lot of how-to information and the patterns are wonderfully clear. We've already made the adorable alligator; we'll definitely be making more puzzles than we can give to our nieces and nephews; they are fun to make so we will begin to make some for charity!

The Prepublishing Handbook: What You Should Know Before You Publish Your First Book
Published in Paperback by Cats Paw Press (1992)
Author: Patricia J. Bell

A good resource, but some information is outdated
This is one of the better books on self-publishing. Although it's only about 100 pages, it contains a lot of useful information. I appreciate the fact that this author has actually self-published her own books. You may be surprised to learn that several of the self-publishing books that I read were written by authors that had never self-published a book.

The major negative comment that I have about this book that it was published back in 1992. Much has changed since then and some of the information is outdated. This is the reason that I cannot give it 5 stars. I hope that the author is working on an updated edition.

If you plan to self-publishing a book, this would be a good book to start with, but I would recommend that you also purchase some other books that have more recent publication dates.

A necessity for writers and publishers
The Prepublishing Handbook takes you from that initial dream of being published through writing, production and promotion. Pat Bell has been there several times and it shows. The teacher, the writer and the publisher all show through as she makes getting out your book easy and fun. If you plan to write and/or publish, you need this valuable book.

Publishing? Read Pat's Book!
Pat's book is an absolute necessity if you have any hope of succeeding in the independent publishing field. The book's title is as straightforward as her advice. Highly recommended!

Great guide to pruducing a family history
This book contains a wealth of information on writing and publishing a family history. I'm glad that I read it before I started, as it enabled me to structure and format properly. I would have hated to go back and do it properly. This manual covers many aspects of family history writing, including publishing options that you may want to explore before commencing the actual writing and formatting, so you are better prepared in the end. It answered many questions I had, and some I was bound to come across later. I recommend this manual to anyone who is considering writing a family history, even if you plan to publish at some distant date. The info is exceptionally helpful, and if a question is not answered the book, it gives specific reference to where you can obtain yet more detailed info. It did not answer every question I had, but it did answer most, and pointed me to the answers in other cases. This should be mandatory reading for anyone considering writing a quality family history. It is prominently placed in my work area for reference.

Very useful resource for would-be family history publishers
All genealogists do research on their families, but not all publish the results of their work. Those who do publish would do well to read this book first. Hatcher is a CG and a technical writer and editor by profession, who also has self-published a number of volumes and co-authored _Indexing Family Histories._ Here, she explains the basics of book design for the novice, lays out a number of options in organizing family information for the printed page, and leads the reader through the questions of style, structure, and documentation. She also offers advice in the creation of camera-ready art and photographs and in dealing with subsidy publishers. And in no case does she claim to know the *only* way to accomplish the readers goals.

Superb, comprehensive guide to writing family history
Deservedly joining the pantheon of genealogical how-to works--such as Barnes and Lackey's "Write it Right"--is Hatcher's "Producing a Quality Family History." She wasn't stingy with her information, and you won't be wanting additional info. on her topics. This book is jam-packed with info. on every aspect of genealogical publishing. Very comprehensive. Almost like a "Chicago Manual of Style" for genealogy. If only all genealogists who were intent on publishing would buy this book first....

AN EXCELLENT TOOL FOR ALL "MOTHERLESS DAUGHTERS"
I can't thank the author enough for putting into words the journey I've been on for the last eight years. I have a mother who is still living, but I have no relationship with her: it echoes my childhood. I am one of those "Motherless Daughters." Ms. Commins helped me to identify other mothering I received as a child, and thus, allowed me to see my lovability - my worthiness. It's ironic to find that I've read every single book she cited in her book -- on this long journey to find myself and what was wrong w/me. I can now say, "Nothing is wrong with me." It was important for me to solve this generational phenomenon for I DID NOT want to pass this onto my two beloved sons. I did not want them to hate me as I did my mother (& father) for years, because the hatred poisons the soul. Hundreds of books later and nine months of therapy were summed up and brought together with Ms. Commins book. She helped tie up the loose ends I still had: the anger, trying to find forgiveness, and preventing the passage of this "disease" to the next generation. I am so grateful for her journey and her willingness to share it with us, along with all the women she interviewed. A great piece of work that should be required reading for students of psychology and anyone who is working with "disturbed" youth. Thank you Ms. Commins.

ALL mother daughter relationships put in perspective
I am about to read Remembering Mother Finding Myself for the second time. While I have the good fortune of understanding my mother and getting to know her while she is still living, Commins book helps every daughter/mother relationship become more fulfilling. Everyone I have talked to loves this book - for different reasons- this is the beauty of the author's writing. At times I laughed, then the next minute I cried and every moment in between I found myself in deep reflection. This powerful book is in honor of all women. It has a message not only for women of the 90's but for future generations ..it is timeless. I had the opportunity recently to hear Ms. Commins speak about her book. Her enthusiasm and true spirit shine through her words whether they are spoken or written. I look forward to reading other publications by this author. ........ A personal note to the author if she reads this - thank you.

remarkable,well-written book
This book is so well written. It is a journey every woman should take whether they had a good relationship with their mothers or not. I received alot of knowledge and healing from reading certain parts of the book and have been able to come to terms with my mother because of Patricia,s book.
