True Friend and Counselor
The GodSelf book is a true friend and counselor to me. When I have needed clarification on the spiritual path, I have found understanding and illumination within the words and phrases -- for they define the process of the unfolding of the soul into Spirit and lead me inward to my own true nature. The GodSelf reads like poetry and makes my heart soar.

The Godself
It is by far the best spiritual book and the most effective I have ever read. It is geared to whatever is needed in your daily life because it speaks to the human condition. This book shows you how to experience the greater part of who you really are. I strongly recommend the Godself book - it's a must for our present times.

A clear new voice
As the scribes and Pharisees marveled at Jesus' wisdom and authority as a 12-year old boy teaching in the Temple, so this book speaks with a wisdom and authority that can best be described as inspired.

I have found help and substance in every on of its 63 short and to the point chapters. "Closer than Breathing", "Look to Me", "Emotion is Power", "Claim Harmony", "Enter my World", "Forgiveness", "Assume Authority", "The First Identification" are a few of the chapter titles that give a taste of the scope of this book.

Written from the first person I AM, the book has a consistent and unwavering identity that speaks of peace, balance and wholeness from the center of our spirit. It is a gentle reminder of what we know but may have forgotten and a gentle nudge to get us back on track, operating from our core identity, the I AM presence.

In the chapter on Peace, she writes "True peace is not deserved nor attained. It is." Also, "You do not have to look for peace. It is always with you as My life." Then later she states that "Carry this consciousness into the battlefield and there will be no battlefield." "Once you become conscious of the peace I AM, nothing can disturb you nor take the peace from you"

As inspiring as it is practical, I have had this book at my bedside for 2 years and still find its call to the spiritual life moves me to stretch beyond my daily routines to a larger understanding of higher consciousness in my daily life.

I Thougfht I Was the only One
As a novice in the field of "Oh my God, mom is coming to live with me", I was so heartened to find this book, which BTW I have not even finished yet, and know that the petty annoyances that plague me are not a reason to consume me with guilt. I am not alone. How reassuring it was for me to know that other women are still feeling the tug of their mom's advice, criticism, competition yada yada yada. I know I love my mom but was concerned about my inability to relate to where she is coming from at this point in her life, being 86 years old, as well as how I wanted our relationship to be at my own age of 50. Now I better understand and it has made me a more compassionate daughter. I have found myself sobbing at times reading this book as well as laughing at myself AND my mom. I am now not so afraid to proceed to the end.

a very helpful book
A must read for every caring woman. Aging is a difficult topic, which Pat Beard manages to make palatable, helpful and interesting. By turns anecdotal, by turns analytical, she shows us the varieties of mother - daughter relationships. It's a wise and helpful book..

Every daughter should read this book!!
This book helps you to understand the aging process and how to behave around your aging mother so that the both of you are comfortable with your relationship. It addresses the questions of role reversals, death, and how both your lives can be more comfortable. This book humanizes an uncomfortable subject in easy to understand terms. It will make your and your mothers life a better place to live. If you have a mother this is a must read!!

Gypsy Magic
"Gypsy Magic" is one of the very best anthologies of its type to come along in a long while. Rebecca York, Ann Voss Peterson and Patricia Rosemoor tell three stories so seamlessly it's like reading one story in three parts.

Ten years earlier, a Gypsy was railroaded into a murder conviction. As revenge, his mother cursed the sons of the three men responsible. The three younger men have all felt the effects of the curse. Now, with the Gypsy scheduled to be executed, can they prove his innocence before it's too late?

The main couple in Rebecca York's "Alessandra," Wyatt Boudreaux and Alessandra King, were once in love. Then she learned his police chief father helped send her cousin to death row. They are reunited years later. They're still on opposite sides of the case, and now Wyatt is blind because of her aunt's curse. Garner Rousseau, the son of the DA who convicted the Gypsy youth, has also experienced the pain of the curse. In Ann Voss Peterson story, he joins together with another of the man's cousins, "Sabina" King. He knows his father wasn't always ethical. He doesn't know if he can open his heart to the beautiful Sabina. Patricia Rosemoor finishes the set in "Andrei." Can the title hero and the murdered woman's daughter find the killer before they become the next victims?

"Gypsy Magic" is the best of the Harlequin anthologies like this I've read. Others like "Night and Day" and "Final Approach...to Forever" have had problems keeping the same voice for the characters with the authors' different writing styles. In "Gypsy Magic," the three authors do an excellent job matching their styles and voices to make the stories flow together. "Gypsy Magic" is so much better constructed than the earlier Intrigue anthology "Bayou Blood Brothers" I wish I could go back and lower my rating for that one. The stories are all equally strong and do a good job advancing the overall storyline while telling each couple's story. The authors don't miss a step dropping clues that will come in useful in another story. It takes skill for one author to pull a story like this off and keep everything straight, not to mention three.

"Gypsy Magic" is one of the best Intrigues this year.

AHHH! AT LAST - WE FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED!
Valonia has cursed the sons of the men who railroaded her son, Carlo Mustov into prison for the murder of his lover, Theresa Granville.

Andrei Sobatka, one of their own, received the curse of "The law is impotent". [poor guy]
He is the cousin of Alessandra and Sabina King, and the product of marriage of a gypsy and an outsider. He has returned to the carnival to work for Milo Vasilli, he runs the Tilt-a-twirl [where he almost gets killed].
He has decided to help his cousins save Carlo and meets up, once again, with Elizabeth Granville, who had given herself to him ten years before.

Now he is hiding out with the carnival to hide his shame, figuring he could gain "Lizzie's" help, as he suspected her father of murdering his own wife.

Now they are in danger and another cousin, Tony has disappeared -- would the attempted murders never stop?

Running lose throughout the carnival is Milo's daughter, Florica, who confuses everyone with her childlike mentality.

Andrei and Elizabeth finally find the murder weapon with ten year old blood still on it. Elizabeth soon learns of Andrei's hidden powers and her own love for him is strengthened as the danger persists.

The cover is neat and representative of the men and the epilogue is great. [I always look forward to these]

Definitely recommended --M -- story moves great, especially through three authors. Just too much pm.s.[grin]

MOST INTRIGUING - SOME ROMANCE
Valonia, a gypsy, cursed the sons of the men who sent her son, Carlo Mustov to prison for killing his lover, Theresa Granville.

The curse for Garner Rousseax was "Love is death".

Sabina King, sister to Alessandra, has the gift of healing. After Wyatt ends up in the hospital, Sabina is determined to seek out Claude Rousseax, to enlist his help to clear Carlo, only to find that he has died. So she approaches his son, Garner.

Now they have become the target of a killer. It becomes more confusing as they eliminate the suspects. Leon Thibault, the district attorney, warned them that they should leave well enough alone - they had no new evidence.

Fascinating as we follow them through their troubles...

This book is definitely recommended -- follow these three couples as they try to save Carlo and definitely end up falling in love with a little hanky panky thrown in.

her most underrated book
Patricia Anthony is underrated in general, but this is her most overlooked book. Too bad, because it's THAT GOOD. Although the premise is a simple twist on an old ghost town of sorts, it is sci-fi/specu-fic at its best.

Happy That I Found Happy Policeman
I just discovered Patricia Anthony and boy am I glad! Great characterization and dialogue. Great style that keeps you turning the pages. I hated time away from this book! Then hated that I finished it. The alien Torkus are so deliciously creepy and philosphical. I am so glad I found Happy Policeman. I looked foward to reading Brother Termite and Cold Allies.

UPS Aliens
It's a locked-room mystery, folks, with all the action taking place inside "the line." Who killed the pink lady? Pastor Jimmy? Foster, the dope-smoking banker? Billy, Loretta's estranged husband? Or maybe she was murdered by the aliens in the UPS truck. The Happy Policeman is the story of police chief DeWitt Dawson's struggle with duty and rebellion, responsibility and truth. Oh yeah . . . and adultry.

One of Anthony's best.

Hot Fudge Monday: Tasty Ways to Teach Parts of Speech to Students Who Have a Hard Time Swallowing Anything to Do With Grammar

Money well spent!
I am homeschooling my 9 year old son and this book is a great resource to use. It's humor can't help but add joy and eagerness to the learning process. It's just the spark we needed to get his creative juices flowing when it comes to writing! Lessons are short and to the point with examples that clearly show what the lesson is intended to convey. I'll be using this one for awhile!!

More Grammar Please!
What a great book for teaching grammar. Very anectodal ways to teach grammar to even 8th graders. The book is nicely organized and instructions are clear. The author used a fair amount of creativity to feed grammar to students with a spoonful of sugar! Definitely worth having in a library.

a grammar book that teachers and students actually like
This book is definitely not boring, even if it is about grammar. It doesn't just teach about more effective verbs, students learn how to use Five Hundred Horsepower verbs. It teaches independent clauses by having students write about people picking their noses -- just the kind of gross stuff kids like. This book is a must for anyone stuck with teaching the parts of speech.

A truly excellent book
Although I am not a professional psychotherapist, but rather a prospective patient, I learnt a tremendous amount about psychoanalytic theory and technique from this book. It is written with great clarity, care and thought. The chapter on theory gives a clear introduction to the theory of defenses. Ms Della Selva's humanity and intelligence are apparent in the clinical examples. The world would be a far better place if children learnt a little about this sort of thing in school.

A highly recommended guide to the practice of ISTDP.
Dr Della Selva's book is very clearly and concisely written. It provides therapists with a comprehensive guide to not only the theory, but the practice of short-term dynamic psychotherapy. All phases of treatment, from the initital assessment and trial therapy, through to termination, are outlined. Transcripts from Dr Della Selva's own cases illustrate the use of the various techniques. Dr Della Selva describes how to rapidly achieve character change, even with patients with mulitiple symptoms and chronic personality disorders. This book has had an enormous impact on my therapeutic success and has significantly reduced the length of treatment time. I believe it is essential reading for all psychodynamic psychotherapists and for any therapist working with a clinical population.

A more empathic approach to ISTDP than Davanloo's
Dr. Della Selva's book has enabled me to weave Davinloo's ISTDP into my own way of practicing psychotherapy. Having trained thousands of students including therapists in empathy since 1972, I deeply appreciate how she attunes to her clients while confronting their defenses. Her writing and case presentation style is clear and much easier reading than other ISTDP practitioners. Also, I like how she presents her theory.

As a result of her book, my work with my most resistive and dificult clients has gotten easier. I am witnessing more character change with less effort. Dr. Della Selva has been an excellent role model through this book and the transcripts of the cases she presents. I recopmmend the book highly to all therapists who want to improve their ability to help clients move past their defenses against painful affects and attain lasting character change.

Simple, Straight-forward and Easy to Use
This was a refreshing change from other books on the same topic. It offers the reader quick reference to specific topics and areas of concern. The activities are easy to understand and to follow. It offered straight-forward realistic suggestions to assist the reader in pursuing improvement of emotional intelligence rather than exploring its causes and effects. It is a wonderful tool to assist parents raising their children and adults raising themselves. I would recommend it highly to family and friends.

Redeem yourself and your son/daughter
After a lengthy parent/teacher conference, our son's 7th grade teacher gave us this book to read/use. Long story short, our son had lied to us regarding assignments. His teacher recommended this book as a way to rebuild the bridge of trust between all of us. We are buying multiple copies to give as gifts. This is a gem.

This clearly written, detailed account of 24 themes (empathy, optimism, tolerance, resiliency, etc.) each of which will certainly stimulate your curiosity, invites you to contemplate, learn and exercise its resources. This activity book is abundant with inspiring quotes, activities, and useful information for daily existance.

4 1/2* Fact-Filled!
This is an excellent book for the budding oceanographer (or the beginning reader). It realistically shows the shark as predator (some of the pictures show sea animals being eaten by sharks, but the illustrations will probably not be upsetting for most), and as victim of the smarter, more teamwork-oriented dolphins. The book does a great job of reporting interesting shark facts; for example, there are more than 300 types of sharks, the dwarf shark is no bigger than a hand, a barrel of nails was once found in a shark's belly, etc. 47 pages long, the publisher recommends it for readers in grades 1-3. A good beginner book.

hungry hungry sharks
The book Hungry Hungry Sharks by Joanna Cole is a good book if you like sharks and you want to find out what they eat or how they live. This would be the book that you would want to read to find those things plus you can find lots more about sharks than what I listed above.

A Review of "Hungry, Hungry Sharks"
"Hungry, Hungry Sharks" was one of the first shark books I bought as a child. Now, as a teacher, I still use this book to provide some factual information to my students. The words are simple enough for a primary student to read, and the illustrations justify the reading. The information in the story is factual, and children love hearing about the sharks. It's a good book.
