The best pie cookbook ever
While I was writing my dissertation, I desperately needed a hobby that would get my mind off of dead American writers. As a lark, I sat down to bake a pie. It was edible, but that's the nicest thing I can say about it. A decade later, I have read over fifty books on piemaking, many of them published thirty or more years ago. To date, this small, readable book remains my favorite. The quest for the perfect pie crust is as varied as there are bakers, but my search ended with this book's "Rich and Tender Dough," which truly is perfect. I've tried most of the pie recipes in this book, and they've all turned out as delicious as described. The Applesauce Pumpkin Pie, Pear-Apple Crumb Pie, Peach Raspberry Pie, and especially the Key Lime Pie are favorites. If you can find this essential book, buy it.

Excellent book with recipes from the heart!
I thoroughly enjoyed the explanations of where each recipe originated.

Their Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, and Apple Pie are some of my family's best loved pies.

This book is a must have for novice pie makers.

The greatest pineapple upside-down cake recipe ever!
Very light pineapple upside-down cake, plus apple and triple-berry pies

As an athlete and having a high complex carbo diet I developed hypoglycemia. The diagnosis took a full year and developed into major problems. The greatest find was this cookbook! What do I eat? I now have something to help me. I have a family of 5 who can also benefit from this book.

A must-buy for hypoglycemia sufferers
Doctors will not help you with hypoglycemia, they will tell you you're making it up or prescribe drugs which alleviate symptoms but not the cause. Hypoglycemia is a misery to live with, I know. Thank God the Krimmels have written their books to help us.

This is an important book!
I teach cooking. I also have a husband who suffers severely from hypoglycemia. I highly recommend this book as a companion to The Low Blood Sugar Handbook. Both are awesome resources and invaluable at establishing a life of focus an healing. I am constantly amazed at how few books there are about Hypoglycemia as it is such a devasting condition to deal with. The book Protein Power by Dr. Eades, is also a wonderful tool. Though not focued solely on this issue it is still a powerful tool on strengtheing the diet and life choices outlined in the Krimmels book(s).

These are a must have for anyone connected with this illness. Wonderfully supportive, and richly written.

Charming with a BOOM!
Meteor is a great childs book but it is also great for anyone who reads it. The author, Patricia Polacco, wonderfully uses all the space on each page to create an experience like you are actually there. The pictures will make children stare wide-eyed for hours. The book will make you giggle on every page. What makes this book even better is that it is completely true. The author really put her heart and soul into it because it comes out of her life experience. She uses alot of different characters and animals to liven each page up. I would recommend it for anyone but especially for younger children.

Meteor!
I loved this book because it was scary and exciting. I love all of Patricia Polacco's books, because they are all personal narratives!

A First Rate Book , By A First Class Author
I recently had the honor of listening to Patricia Polacco tellabout this book. Not only is the story based on true events, but shecarries a piece of the meteor with her when she travels. The story isexciting, and the pictures are wonderful. Ms. Polacco has a gift for telling stories, and she also spreads a wonderful message. Many of her stories stress kindness, compassion, and acceptance of others. I recommend, not only this book, but all of the books by Patricia Polacco.

What an investment!
I've been on the speaking circuit for nearly 30 years and I still find invaluable nuggets of wisdom from Ty Boyd's THE MILLION DOLLAR TOOLBOX. If communication is the lubricant of relationships, then Ty has the oil can! I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to get your thoughts across ... to your boss, your kids or your lover. Imagine $1,000,000.00 worth of tools for just a few bucks!

The Perfect Source For Success Guidance
I've been a follower of Ty Boyd for decades. From his days as a radio and TV commentator to his presidency of the National Speakers Association and founder of the Excellence In Speaking Institute, I've watched his wisdom grow. And I've benefitted from it personally. Ty shares in this book the accumulated wisdom of thousands of speaking engagements and his involvement at the leadership level of many organizations. Become a Ty Boyd follower like I have, your own life will be richer because of it.

Our Number 1 Asset!
Being able to communicate effectively is the most important skill set we can possess. For the past four years, I have been an avid student of professional speaking skill's education. During this time, I have read over 30 books on public speaking and communication. If I had to recommend just one book on the subject of communication it would be Ty Boyd's "The Million Dollar Toolbox." Because as Ty says, "Words well spoken, makes of us giants."

More misanthropic than misogynistic
Much of Patricia Highsmith's writing proceeds from one simple idea: that with intense effort and single-minded determination, even the most unremarkable people can manage to ruin not only their own lives, but the lives of everyone around them as well. One need look no further than this slim collection of short fables to make the point. Whether it's "Oona the Jolly Cave Woman," hapless Elaine in "The Breeder," or a truly malevolent creature like Thea in "The Perfect Little Lady," all of the main characters in these short stories display an insatiable appetite for destruction.

Although the title suggests that this book is misogynistic, the men in this collection aren't necessarily any better than the women. Highsmith's deep misanthropy can (and does) get monotonous, but with such gemlike stories as "The Hand" and "The Prude" in this collection, the book gives little cause for complaint.

Mapplethorpe a Biography

Thoroughly enjoyable read.
This book is excellent and very readable.I imagine there is not much left to say about Roberts life. The research is thorough but the resulting book is vivid ,full of life and not at all dull.Everybody in the N.Y. art scene seems to make an appearance-Patti Smith is obviously also a big and constant background presence in the tale.Even if you don't rate Roberts work this book will be well worth reading.

CAPTIVATING!
Although Robert Mapplethorpe's artistic creations are undeniably controversial, his life story, as told by Patricia Morrisroe, makes for absolutely fascinating reading. I had more than once come across references to Mapplethorpe's work in the various gay fictions I'd been reading; and being totally unfamiliar with him (except for vague name recognition), I decided to find out more about him. Interestingly enough, both towards the latter half of his life and in the months following his death there were many events related in the book that I could recall having heard about in the news, but didn't make the connection with Mapplethorpe until this book. I think my mouth was agape throughout most of the time spent reading it; even now, recalling the descriptions of some of his photos and the detailed recounting of his lifestyle, I just sit and shake my head in amazement and probably shock. Robert Mapplethorpe, at his mother's request, received the last rites before he died. Being raised Catholic, I know what that should mean; but quite frankly, if there is indeed a heaven and a hell, I'm not sure in which place Robert Mapplethorpe is currently residing. A very informative book, and very, very absorbing reading!

a throughly well written book!!!
this booktotally captured my attention and got me completely engrossed in it . i didn't feel the pages turning at all.i read this book for college and i did in no way find it a chore to do so.i found myself waiting untill i could pick up the book to continue reading. well written.

An apt title for a memoir
At first I was a little disappointed in this book because I wanted to read more of what Ueland wrote in her book "If You Want to Write." In "Me: A Memoir," Ueland said more than once she hated to write.

What a downer for someone looking for encouragement.

However, I read the book cover-to-cover and without skipping one page. I even read the introduction to the book, something I usually skip (if it's important, it's going to be in the body of the book, right?).

Ueland's writing in "Me" is refreshing. She says what she says and if you don't like it--tough. That's who she is. I like her spirit, her intelligence and her ability to make some sense out of life.

A good read. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Me-beautiful-it made me fall in love with her
reading berenda made me a better person and probably saved my artistic life (or the life of the artist within me). in this book which is so different than any other memoir or autobiography, she geneously shares with us her inner life. according to her everyone's inner life is interesting. she writes about how she was on her way to germany when wwI broke out and she was stranded in egland as a result. rather than giving us one more of thousands of reports on the climate of that time she notes that everybody already knows about the war and if they want to read about it they can go to the libray. what people don't know about is her. the result is that brenda, the human being, is put on the same facinating plane as world wars and revolutions. and that is the way it should be. we are all that important and should share our selves with eachother the way brenda does. read this book for a wonderful example of how to live live like a prophet passionatly searching for truth and beauty. i am less dead by reading it. and you can be too!! also read if you want to write because it is even better!

The spirit of this book fills the reader with courage.
Brenda Ueland follows her own profound advice, given in her book, IF YOU WANT TO WRITE, and tells her own story with such complete honesty and fervor, every sentence is a joy. Just as certain pieces of music lift you off your feet in spite of yourself, so, too, her courage and warmth take you over until you feel full of promise and power yourself. Brenda Ueland thrilled to her own talents and to the talents she believed to be in the make-up of every human being in this world. Brenda could not be with people without empowering them. When Ueland asked three children which of them felt inside he or she was really a genius, all three raised their hands -- and so did Brenda Ueland. Anything by this woman puts life on a whole new plane.

How I happened upon this magnificent story.
My dad brought this book home from the library a couple of years ago, and told me to read it. At first I did not think I would like it, but once I started reading it I could not put it down! It was so intriguing, especially with all of the sneaking around that the kids did. I especially enjoyed the parts towards the end when you really find out what's going on.

Country people in time gone by, people who had values, love
When a baby appears out of the blue, the whole town gets involved in it's life. One woma n, an elderly spinster takes care of it, hoping to keep it always. but the mother appears and the whole town is in an uproar. It is really a gentle book, with children in it who come alive on the page. These children get into all sorts of antics trying to take care of the baby and loving it. Sylvie demands that it be hers and no one else can have it. She is l3 years old and has a mind of her own. The other children try to talk her out of it. Anyone would love this book! I recommend it highly. And so does my daughter!

excellent reading for mothers and daughters
I bought this book for my daughter and we read it together. We loved it and had never met such wonderful characters as we met in Clement's Pond. I bought books for my daughter's girlfriends and they read it with their mothers. We all agreed that it was a wonderful book for children as well as adults. The girls are ages l2 to 14.I would recommend this book highly.

Been There, Loved It
This is one of those inclusive and thorough travel guides that's complete. Carried it with me, matched the pages and the places, and it all fit. A lot of history and overview, which makes it better than the books that tell you "turn left at the statue and look at the palace."

The photos are better than most local postcards, too bad you can't tear them out and mail them to friends.

Overall, a terrific companion, but make sure to pack it when you go. The other couple traveling with us kept borrowing ours, and we had to keep asking for it back.

The Heart of Two Cities from a writer with heart!
Masha Nordbye has provided far more than a simple guide to these fascinating cities. She writes with a clarity and deep personal knowledge that can bring these places alive for even the most armchair bound traveller. The specifics are there, certainly, but it is her love for these places that establishes this wonderful book as an adventure in just the reading of it. It is alone at the top of the list.

She Knows Whereof She Speaks
Man,has this author been there - to Moscow and St. Pete - and done just about everything that any of the rest of us might imagine as we plan our trip. A GREAT guidebook with great pics. Don't leave homw without it!!
