HOLLYWOOD, TAKE A LOOK
I wish the movers and shakers in the film world, e.g. Coppola, DeNiro, Scorcese would read GROWING UP ITALIAN IN GOD'S COUNTRY and find out what life for the Italian immigrant was really like at the turn of the last century. The stories within would make a riveting movie. There's the great-grandfather dropping dead face down on the railroad tracks his mouth full of cinders; a great-aunt dying in agony for lack of medicine only to have her coffin whipped by the Irish priest who was exorcising her "sins"; the author's father, age 4, pulled from the Austin mill flood which took 78 lives;the author's mother hiding in the pantry from the Indian who came to breakfast. Often tragic, frequently humorous, always engrossing. Highly recommended.

ethnic history lover
I enjoyed this book so much. The writing style and subject matter are reminiscent of Bailey White's fact-based fiction. The descriptions of life in the Pennsylvania mountains are vivid and I felt as if I knew the characters. It is clearly written with love and enthusiasm for the subject matter. It made me long for the people and places of my own childhood and to know more about my ancestors. The old photos are so wonderful too. Thanks for a great escape.

VIVA ITALIA !
The stories Patricia weaves in this lovely collection of insights is a treasure for her family as well as her faithful readers.

This book will be the spark that ignites every reader to embrace and explore their own family's history.

Patricia's enthusiasm is contagious, and her book "Growing Up Italian In God's Country" has renewed my interest and pride in my own family, as I too, grew up in God's country.

Thank you for writing this special gift, Patricia.

simply superb
This book seems to be nothing more than another retelling of the Arthurian legends. But it is so much more than that. It majestically weaves colorful characters and intriguing storylines with a fresh plot. I highly recommend it for any fans of Celtic legends and certainly any Arthur fans.

Wow. Arthur in the Stars
In what has to be one of the most original takes on the Arthurian mythos, Patricia Kennealy-Morrison places Arthur's early years in Keltia, as a rising star and prince in the struggle to free the Keltic worlds and Keltia from the Theocracy and the Death-Druid that has taken power. All this seen though the eyes of Arthur's foster brother, who becomes one of Keltia's greatest bards and mate to Arthur's sister, Morgan. Very well done - and leaves you wanting more.

Best Arthurian Trilogy yet!!
I have been a fan of Arthurian legend forever. This series is my favorite of all time. The characters feel like friends you've known or you wish you had known. The places come alive like no book I've ever read. I knew how the story was to end but cried anyway. PKM's books are my favorite of all time. I recommend this series as well as her other series. She is a great author and shame on the publishers for not continuing with her work, the way she AND her fan/consumers wish.

A Life Worth Living
One woman's journey through life as told from the perspective of each of her homes, from childhood on. It captures you and takes you right back to your own childhood. The has a wonderful ebb and flow; laughter and sadness. A reminder of how special and unique each of our life's are, and how in the tragedies sometimes lay the greatest gift.

Family, Love and Hope
The author allows us to peer through the windows of her family homes and see her loving family as they experience the cycles of life. The author's unique personal story of happiness and tragedy is inspirational and very moving. Her message of love and hope for the future is a lesson for us all. I wish everyone could read this book.

A Worthy Read
It is said that we all have a story to tell, a book to write, an interesting life lived. The author was the typical suburban working mom, with two kids, a career, husband, two cars, and a bright future. In one day, her life fell apart. You will reel from the shock. Your life too will seem more fragile and the threads that hold your heart and mind together will be weaker and yet stronger. Her story is one of hope, survival and optimism in the face of further tragedy that abruptly changed this woman's outlook on life. Her story is worth reading. You will remember the rooms and houses of your life. Her aunt's kitchen alone will flood your senses to memories that you long had forgotten. I highly recommend this book. You will cry, you will remember and you will carry on.

A great way to start to learn about your cat
I enjoyed the author's down to earth style of explaining the importance of respecting your cat as a true family member. It opened my eyes up to a cat's reliance on their owners and how important it is to communicate with them. Cats has instints and preceptions beyond our own and this book brought to light and will help you understand more about your cat's behavior. A quick read and informative especially to siamese owners. MEOW!

Great book!
This book is as insightful as it is entertaining. I have always talked to my cats and now I have a better understanding of what they are hearing as well as what they are saying to me! A must for anyone who has, or wants to, really connect with their cat(s).

I can relate!
Patricia Moyes has a great writing style. Witty, clever and very funny. I find myself nodding in agreement and laughing when she describes cat behavior. Not for overall cat training, but more to understand and be understood by your feline companion

The best!
I loved this book! I have read almost all of the Jennie McGrady books and this one is my favorite. When Jennie's teacher ends up dead the police are certian it is suicide. Jennie is not as sure as the police so she starts investigating. There is a surprising twist in the end so you won't want to miss reading this book!

Inn Too Deep
This is my absolutely favorite book. It's funny, intense, and has a SHOCKING, but wonderfully surprising ending. I would deffinately recomend this to any one, it is sooooo cool. But the best part about Jennie McGrady is that she's not a perfect Nancy Drew that get's everything right. She's a normal teen with a knack for solving mysteries. WHO EVER HAS NOT READ THIS BOOK IS DEFINATELY MISSING OUT ON ALOT!...

AMAZINGLY GOOD! THE BEST MYSTERY BOOK OF THEM ALL!
Whoa! Rushford knows how to write a mystery, and this Book proves it!I GIVE A MILLION STARS!!!! i'M REALLY PICKY ABOUT BOOKS AND THIS BOOK TOPS MY LIST! iF YOU NEVER READ iN TOO DEEP, YOU HAVE NOT BEEN LIVING. iT REALLY IS A SHAME EVERY KID HASN'T READ IT, SO AFTER YOU READ THIS BOOK, SPREAD THE WORD AROUND! pLEASE READ THIS BOOK! i REALLY WOULD APPRECIATE IT. tHE BOOK IS FULL OF TWISTS AND TENSING MOMENTS, ESPECIALLY ABOUT THE SHOCKING TRUTH OF THAT CERTAIN POLICE OFFICER, NATE RASTOVSKI, WHO IS MORE INTERESTED IN JEN'S MOM THAN THE CASE! ALTHOUGH IT IS BETTER TOO READ THEM IN ORDER, WHICH I ENCOURAGE YOU TOO DO, YOU WILL GO THROUGH THEM SO FAST THAT YOU WILL FINISH UP THE SERIES BEFORE YOU KNOW IT.! PLEASE READ THIS BOOK!!!!!

A new look at candle magic...
When one thinks of Candle Magic, most of us defer to Raymond Buckland's classic book on Candle Magic. But very little has been written about candle magic since then.

Trish Telesco takes up the challenge, and in this book offers us an updated and modernized version of this multifaceted skill. She covers the art of candle magic from making your own candles and the basics of oiling and scenting them all the way up to the modern correspondences of color, herbs and carving.

Trish also takes this one step further and goes over the basics of candle magic, how to prepare the candles, how to work with the candles and what to expect from your workings. Covering the basics of magic she reviews the process and gives us a good overview of what candle magic is and how to get the most out of it.

What impressed me was how much in depth information was provided about correspondences. From God/Goddess, color and astrological signs to incorporating Feng Shui with your candle workings.

A very nicely researched and easy to use book that belongs next to Raymond Buckland's book on your library shelf.

Awesome!
Exploring Candle Magick by Patricia Telesco is one of the most informative books on candle magick that I have ever read! A definite MUST for any Wican library!

wonderfull and informative!
As a young wiccan, starting out in the Craft, this book was wonderfull for simple spells and divinations. My friend and I have spent many hours studying the way the wax drips into a glass of water or how the flame burns. Trish has a wonderfull way of making things much more simple compaired to other books i have read. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone intersted in Magick or Divination

God for Women?
Reflectively, and logically, God did not exist for women within the construction of religious except as the afterthought in the creation of man, a theory to which religion has remained fixed throughout the centuries as evidenced by the inadequate recognition of women in the daily life cycle of everything but being used as a vessel of child bearing. This theory is substantiated by most theories of gender dynamics (created mostly by men) to form a view that while women are disappointed to recognize they are second class citizens in a world bound by traditional religions, their unique qualities have never been given "equal time" or encouragement to develop to apply to what is thought as traditional male pursuits, usually defined by the hierarchies of dominance in military formats. Altering the dynamics of that reality requires than women give significant thought to their own strengths and vulnerabilities in a "larger" context to define their own place in social, political space and economic space and stop trying to fit into that designed by men, for men. Redefining the interpretation of themselves within traditional religious context may well be a part of that requirement to release their innermost ability and capacity for expression and social impact, an historic recognized need but as yet unrealized by most, and unaddressed. Sharing God within the traditional biblical philosophies will not be easy given historic interpretations of their place in humanity but may well be worth the effort to study and examine. No doubt, finding God for women may well lie in the "greater domain" of integrating their capacity to give birth as well as to maintain it according to an experience that men are incapable of appreciating fully from that larger perspective. Ideal reading for all adults interested in Christian gender integration and power potential.

Inspiring Book
The authors spent a lot of time researching and interviewing various women that are considered extremely spiritual. The result is a book of many stories of women from different backgrounds and the many paths to took to find their spirituality.

I found the book very inspiring and wanted to read it again as soon as I finished the last page. I recommend this book for every woman out there.

Thought provoking and insightful.
Upon reading this book for the first time I found myself pleasantly surprised. First published in 1991, this book is as germaine to women's spirituality today as it was then. Instead of being a book about Christian women only, Anderson and Hopkins have included a cross section of North American women in their study. Women of many different faiths candidly discuss their personal revelations regarding their spiritual growth and their relationships with the divine.

Interspersed with the women's stories are the experiences of the two authors as they struggled to research and write this book. This sharing of the authors' experiences makes the book accessible to anyone, reminding us that we are all only human - subject to doubts and questions as easily as we are to revelations and joy. Instead of being a dry, preaching, self-help book, the combined experiences of Anderson and Hopkins and their subjects create a story full of laughter, joy, pain, sorrow and, most importantly, a sense that as women we must explore our own spiritual lives in our own ways in order to live at our fullest potential.

Heir of Sea and Fire

excellent series
Out of all three books this one is, to me at least, the least attractive one. Don't get me wrong I mean it's an excellent read and you'll burn through it just like the other two but this one spends so much time with the girl that I really would rather read about the main character, so to speak. Might be wrong but its just my opinion.

Weak middle volume... NOT!
In most trilogies, the middle volume is the weak one, tying beginning and end together with too little plot. Patricia McKillip skillfully avoids this pitfall in "Heir of Sea and Fire," the second slim volume in her Riddlemaster trilogy, and the story of Raederle, the second most beautiful woman in An.

A year has passed since Morgan of Hed vanished at Erlenstar Mountain, and suddenly the land-rule passes to Morgan's brother -- a sign that Morgan is dead, that the harpist Deth has betrayed him. As he was the Star-Bearer, assorted people are extremely upset. And a few refuse to believe that it can be true.

Raederle's father is one of them; after he leaves, his daughter meets the Morgul of Herun, and her brother in Caithnard. There she teams up with the Morgul's daughter, Lyra (whom Morgan met in "Riddlemaster") who is angry at Morgan's supposed death, and eager to accompany Raederle wherever she goes. They set off on a ship, going to Erlenstar Mountain, and soon find that aside from Raederle, Lyra, and Lyra's fellow guards, they also have Tristan of Hed stowed away (who is promptly seasick).

Raederle finds out that Morgan has recently appeared, kept captive by the mysterious and evil Ghisteslwchlohm, and betrayed by Deth -- who is now on the run from everyone. But as Raederle's questions are answered, more pop up. She encounters a shapechanger, and then runs into Deth camping in the woods. Answers about the High One, about Morgan, and about her own abilities and heritage begin to come to light, as the dead of An begin to blaze back into existance. Raederle must bargain with fate and a dead king, using only her newfound powers and a crowned skull, to save Morgan -- and the rapidly unraveling world.

Wow, where to begin? Well, for one thing, Patricia McKillip delivers a wallop in book two of three, explaining many of the things she brought up in "Riddlemaster" and starting the buildup to the huge climax in book three (which I am now twenty pages into). This book (thankfully) does not end on a cliffhanger like "Riddlemaster"; also, if you are looking for an immediate answer to the cliffhanger previously shown, then you will be frustrated enough to give the Great Shout.

In addition, we are given another character who is as realistic as Morgan: Raederle, the second-most beautiful woman in An. Her looks are only brought up a couple times, as it's her strength, brains, and search for the truth and for Morgan that catch the reader -- and are most often displayed. The explanation for her growing power and the use she makes of it is as breathtaking as Morgan learning how to become a tree or a vesta. The scenes where she dangles the crowned skull to get that dead king to bargain with her was priceless, and the climax is shattering. McKillip's skill in describing magic grows even further; the descriptions of what Raederle is doing are like poetry. In addition, she does not remain a static character as she learns shattering truths and encounters strange people; she grows more mature and stronger.

We don't see Morgan much, though we hear a lot about him, and his sudden growth of power. More we see of Raederle and Lyra, who is fleshed out from the more shadowy character from "Riddlemaster." It's a rare gift to write strong women convincingly. Deth remains strange and ambiguous -- he betrayed Morgan, yet makes no excuses for himself. Other characters like the Morgul and Morgan's siblings are more absent (though what Tristan does is a bit unforgettable).

McKillip's writing is a bit more flowery than in "Riddlemaster," more descriptive and dreamy in parts. We get a few more puns on "Hel," such as that the Star-Bearer's path was leading straight into Hel. (Hel being a region)

Overall, an astounding piece of work and a worthy sequel to "Riddlemaster." I'm itching to read more of "Harpist in the Wind."

This is a stellar series-- why is the 2nd book out of print?
I would highly recommend this book, and indeed, the whole series, to any fantasy reader. Admittedly, I have not read all of Ms. McKillip's offerings, but I have read extensively in this field, and I found this to be a highly moving, intelligent, and succinct trilogy. Heir of Sea and Fire is especially integral to the reading of the series, as it is, after all, the second and middle book. I just want to ask, who flubbed up and let this one go out of print, while leaving the first and last in print? What a loss!

If you want to quit, this approach works!
I had the pleasure of a personal secession with Patricia Allison over 10 years ago. Her program really works by enpowering you to take control over your life. TRY IT!

Hooked but Not Helpless - Kicking Nicotine Addiiction
I smoked for over 40 years. I tried 10 times over a five year period to quit smoking. I checked this book out of the public library in February of 1996. After reading it, I told my husband on Valentines Day of 1996 that I was giving him the gift of quitting smoking. That's been over 6 years now. This book is priceless. I've told numerous people to get the book. It saved me.

Useful help for nicotine addicts
I think this book is really useful for people who are quitting smoking. It helps you to look at your addiction in a new way (not just willpower). The way that the book is laid out is the author is counseling others and you end up identifying with each of the group. She also talks about "junkie thinking" and "lies that keep us trapped" and how we rationalize our smoking. She gives lots of information on how to break that false rationalization. I recommend this book to everyone I know who is quitting.
