A beautiful reflection of a great being's life.
This book is a must for anyone who follows the lives of great, enlightened beings. Bhagavan Nityananda was a great Siddha, or perfected master. He was a born Avatar or realized being from birth. He was endowed with the light of God. He was loved and respected by thousands of spiritual seekers who came to have his Darshan or simply put to be in his presence. This book examines his odd but thoroughly amazing ways through stories, examples and photographs. The photographs themselves are enough for the price of admission as he was not photographed very often. The power of his being is quite apparent through the many different images presented in this book. Bhagavan Nityananda bestowed his lineage to Swami Muktananda ( his name means: The Bliss of Freedom) who then brought the meditation revolution to the West in the early 70's. Swami Muktananda's successor, Swami Chidvilasanada ( whos name means; The Bliss of the Play of Consciousness) or Gurumayi as she is affectionaltely called is the present living master in this lineage. Both Swami's Muktananda and Chidvilasanda have both written extensively about meditation and the practices of Yoga in the most exceptional ways. If you find this book compelling I highly recommend that you follow up with one of Swami Muktananda's books such as "Play of Consciousness" or "Bhagavan Nityananda of Ganeshpuri"or Gurumayi's "My Lord Loves a Pure Heart." There is something very real and profound in these writings.

A profoundly moving and insightful book
This book is composed of brief commentaries by Baba Muktananda of individual lines of various sacred texts as noted in the title. Sometimes it may only be a paragragh or two; sometimes a page. But I found this simple format and these brief explanations to be profoundly moving and enlightening. As I would read a commentary, and I would only read a few a day, I would find myself drawn naturally into a profound contemplative orientation towards my thoughts and actions and notions about myself and my life. It always felt very healing and as if unnecessary burdens were dissolving on the spot. I would at times be moved to tears of gratitude, to meditative silence, to joyful realizations. This book is indeed food for the heart, soul, and mind. It is alive with blessings. It is literally, not metaphorically alive, and if you relate to it with care and attention, you will find yourself in a sacred and precious relationship.

The Path of Devotion

The Path of Devotion
Here is one of the most profound and clear spiritual texts I have ever read. In a concise 105 pages, Swami Paramananda is a direct conduit for God and for Consciousness. Written when the author was twenty-three years old!, this beautiful gift from an enlightened spirit still shines as brightly today as it did when it was originally published in 1907. It is absolutely amazing that a person so young could have had so much light and awareness. When my life gets a little heavy or the light seems a bit dim and far away and I need to hear God whisper in my ear, I walk past all my other spiritual texts(and I've got a lot of them) and I head straight to this book. The text is a pure nonsecular gift of light from God. From the chapter Devotion: "Love unites God and man...one-pointed love for the Ideal awakens, it comes like a flood and washes off everything,-ignorance, narrowness, fear, doubt, selfishness..." From the chapter Purity: "Unselfishness and purity are inseparable. One follows the other. Through unselfish work the heart becomes pure, and in a pure heart remains nothing but love. ... In the pure heart there is no anxiety or sadness. Let your face be always cheerful, like a child who rests happily in his mother's arms... When the heart becomes pure, we get the vision of our true Self or the Ideal. Our heart is like a mirror... When you have resigned this little "I" (ego), then the great "I" will shine for you and cover the whole universe." From the chapter Steadfastness "Misery and difficulties come at times to strengthen our character. They are like examinations. We must prepare and pass them. Know that they are very good for the formation of character. The more we meet with difficulties, the more we remember our Mother for protection... Truth can never be realized by weak minded people... Never mind praise or blame, never mind what others say or do; move on walk on steadily; being unmoved by either praise or blame. ...love is pure love,-love for love's sake...Have faith in yourself... "He who does not believe in himself is an atheist."... Die like a hero fighting for the truth. That will bring peace to your soul." This is one of the first works by Swami Paramananda, you get a chance to look inside his heart when he was a young lad and see his soul and you know that he became an even greater light as the years went by. This book is Pure Truth. To the publishers; get off your behinds and reprint this book. You hold a great key in a sacred trust, it is your obligation to humanity to publish this work or give up your right to do so! This book is not about making money, it is about freeing the human soul. Publish it!

I KNOW it's full of good stuff if you can understand Spanish
Well, it's kind of hard to read 'cause it's in Spanish !!

However, having read 'In Quest of God' and "In the Vision of God" Volumes 1 & 2, I know it's packed full of WISDOM which I would like to access !! My knowledge of Spanish is somewhat poor but I can get the gist of some of it.

It's a very cute little book. Definately buy it if you know Spanish but don't overlook the others. They are BEAUTIFUL.

A thought provoking work.
I purchased this book about 5 years ago and it really made me think about what can be gained by the knowledge and culture that has been present in the east for (at least) thousands of years.

It tells the simple story (directly transcribed from the original Vedic texts) of a wandering aesthetic who comes in contact with a person of the royal order. On his way to some important destination the king, not aware of the enlightened status of the sage, mistakenly inscripts him in the service of carrying him on a raised dias. The sage was very careful to respect the life of the many ants scurrying along the path so, in trying to avoid stepping on them, the king was jostled about while atop his palenquin. After tolerating a few chastisements the sage humbly presents to the king "Why is the travelling of the ants upon this road any less important than your travelling here?"

Upon hearing such unassumed wisdom from the mouth of his carrier, the king quickly realizes his mistake. Falling on the ground in front of the sage with his nose pressed to the earth at his feet the king requests the sage to forgive his misjudgement. The sage responds by imparting a dissertation of very clear and precise spiritual knowledge that has just as much relevance today as it did then.

A very good read!

Devamrita Swami illuminates this ancient conversation with great lucidity and insight that can only be gained from someone, such as himself, who has similarly fallen at the feet of the great sages. His use of modern analogies and terms make the ancient teachings of self realization accessable to us all.

Highly recommended.

Edward Pattillo

Wonderful
Holistic Health is one of the premier books on yoga. Written in an informal but easy to read style this book has great depth to it despite its simplicity. I recommend this book to all meditation students beginning or advanced. Swami Rama speaks from a profound depth of experience far greater then most realize. His knowledge is from first hand experience, not from academic learning. A classic!

The author is sagacious and possesses true understanding.
The discriminating wisdom of the author is immediately obvious to the reader as one flows through the text. Her insight is obviously gained from personal experience collected over many years of self-study and internal transformation. If the reader has any interest in the YOGA SUTRA'S OF PATANJALI, this is the eminent western translation. Although not a verbatim copy with heavy commentary as is the custom of most translators when dealing with this ancient Sanskrit text, Savitripriya explains and expounds in everyday, plain english. Most refreshing! Very enlightening.
