I LOVE this book.... and so do my children
Whenever I ask my girls(ages 7 & 5) to go get my favorite book to read to them, this is the one they grab, and they are right. I absolutely love this book. I have read it to every child I've had a chance to. I have read it to adults as well. The message is to beautiful, and true.
The illistations drew me to this book, and the story keeps me coming back, time and time again.
I look forward to reading it each time I get the chance, and for many, many years to come.

Gorgeous for children and adults alike
I am a recent M.K. Moulton fan, and just love this book. He uses different illustrators for his books, so each one has a different feel. I've purchased this book twice, once for myself, and the other for a gift! Beautifully presented in a hard-case, it reminds me of quality books I had as a child. A must!

One Enchanted Reader
Not only do the colorful vocabulary and exquisite illustrations bursting on each page capture the minds of children and adults alike in this book, the message of accepting AND loving differences, will too. The clever use of nature's creatures, each with their strengths, also adds to the main theme. I find the heavy paper stock used and book box included an extra benefit to a wonderful book. I purchased this book for myself and others who have bi-cultural children.

One Tuesday Morning
This book was wonderful. It was a very easy read and once you start you cannot put it down. I will definetly look to read more from Karen Kingsbury.

Hooked on Kingsbury
This is the 4th book I've read by Karen Kingsbury, and so far she hasn't disappointed me. Her characters are believeable, and you can see their emotions as the author describes them. I've been moved to tears more than once while reading her novels. She makes you fall in love with her characters, then has an event take place where you just have to know what happens next - thus captivating you with the storyline. I like her novels because they touch upon subjects that many people struggle with in everyday life- and overcome through their faith in Christ.

One Tuesday Morning
One Tuesday Morning is a great book. It is a heartwarming story, with the gospel of Jesus Christ shining, centered around the tragedy of 9/11. You will share the emotions of the characters and feel that you are in the same room with them. A tip of the hat to Karen Kingsbury for her writing effort.

The Illustrated Quilts are Worth the Price of the Book Alone
Karen Combs does a fine job gathering examples of each "tool" used to create illusions. I've just read through the book and I feel very inspired to piece a cube. The quilts she's chosen to illustrate different techniques are amazing. If you're up for something different, this book is for you.

Technique and Inspiration
This is a technique book that goes to great lengths to illustrate the variety of methods used to create illusions. Using a flat surface, angles, perspective, colors, shading and values all work to trick your mind that you are seeing depth.

Use this book to drive your creativity as well as inspire you to gain more skills in this hobby. Study each of the illustrations as they are marvelous examples you learn something new each time you view this book.

Art quilts are hear to stay and this is a great book to leave on your coffee table to show off to your guests that quilting has indeed come quite a long way. The face of quilting is everywhere around you, not a steriotype of our Grandma's cutting up old shirts.

Enjoy this book and learn new techniques to add depth and enjoyment of this art/hobby of quilting.

Informative and Useful
Karen Combs has done an excellent job of condensing several books on 3-D and perspective into one readable, useable source. She takes the reader step-by-step through various types of perspective problems. Not only does she do this with drawing techniques but also with a delightful and inspiring quilt gallery and a few sample projects.

The reader should realize that this is not a project book; this is a design book. It is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to add persepctive to their quilts. I read this book cover-to-cover when I was creating a quilt for the APNQ "Invoking Spirits" exhibition. I wouldn't have designed as nice a piece without this valuable resource.

Playing With Matches
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Signet (01 April, 2003)
Authors: Katherine Greyle, Karen Harbaugh, Sabeeha Johnson, and Cathy Yardley
Amazon base price: $6.99
Average review score:

Great anthology!
Romancing Rose by Cathy Yardley leads off with the story of a young woman whose grandmother is determined that she not forget her Oriental heritage. In a bargain to get the old lady off her back for a year, Rose takes a course in her culture, and is in for a huge surprise. She never wanted to fall for an Oriental man, but love does not always do what we want.

Katherine Greyle's contribution DRAGON FOR DINNER, brings her Regency comedic flair to the modern world. Su Ling does her best to be a rebel, even bringing home what she thinks is a motorcycle riding bad boy for dinner just to shock her family. Mitch is not what he seems, and both are about to learn how to prioritize family and love.

THE SPICE BAZAAR moves to Indian culture and gives Sarbeeha Johnson a great start to her career. Arranged marriages and deceptions prove to be quite a tangle for a young couple.

Finally, Karen Harbaugh concludes in LOVE.COM, and two young people with match making parents learn what love means.

***** Normally, multi cultural romance means that the hero and heroine will be African American, and once in a while, Hispanic. There are, however, other cultures, and this collection of stories sheds new light on the Oriental one, with emphasis on those of mixed race. *****

The Postpartum Husband

OUTSTANDING AND WONDERFULLY HELPFUL
I recommend this book to all husbands, partners and family members of women suffering from postpartum depression. I am a clinician specializing in treatment of prenatal and postpartum mood disorders. This book is succinct and to the point. It is written in bullet points and brief paragraphs that give specific and clear information. Chapters include topics such as Understanding PPD, Misconceptions about depression, What she might be feeling and what you can do about it, What NOT to say, and more. Important sections cover topics such as coping, what you (the husband) might be feeling, medications, and recovery. It's amazing Kleiman could get so much information into this book. So often the husbands and families are confused about how to understand this problem and be helpful. Anyone who reads this book will feel supported.

A must have book for post partum depression
Ordered several books on post partum depression. This book is absolutely a must have for anyone close to and concerned about someone with post partum depression. Easy to read, and understand. Adresses both what the wife and also the husband are feeling during this misunderstood illness. My daughter is in recovery from PPD now, and my husband insists that we order more copies to have on hand for other people we may come in contact with...

Karen Kleiman is fantastic......a must read !!!
What a wonderful tool for our husbands who are confused and scared. Highly recommended!!!

A great companion for her first book----"This Isn't What I expected---Overcoming Postpartum Depression"

Quilting Now & Then
Published in Hardcover by Now & Then Pubns (1994)
Authors: Karen B. Willing, Julie B. Dock, and Sarah Morse
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:

good storytelling, creative artwork
This book gives a clear, rhyming explanation of the history of quilting in America and how it has changed. The artwork is a fun combination of real quilt photos and hand-drawn images. I bought this for *my mom* to read to her grandkids, in the hopes that it will open doors for her to talk about our own family's quilting history. Quilting was an important part of the history of American women and I'm delighted that this book keeps that history alive for kids today.

best quilting book ever
This is the best quilting book I have ever read. It explains how quilts are made so that kids and adults can actually understand it. There are pictures of real quilts inside, and I have seen some patterns that I can't wait to try. My kids love it too. This book was not only fun to read, but I actually learned helpfull stuff too. IT is a must read!

great way to share love of quilts.
I enjoyed sharing this book with several classes of Kdg - 3rd grade students. They sat still to listen to it, with breaks to look at my quilt examples. It's a good way to compare the old methods of quilting with the new. A nice cadence to the words. wonderful photos of real quilts mixed in with drawings. Many common quilt desings are named. My girls and I enjoy this book.

Notes from the Shore
Published in Hardcover by Viking Press (1995)
Authors: Jennifer Ackerman, Karin Grosz, and Karen Grosz
Amazon base price: $21.95
Average review score:

A cautiously insightful blend of science and literature
Ackerman delivers a series of short, easy-to-read essays on life on the Delaware shore. In exploring nature's finely tuned patterns in the shore's flora and fauna, the author finds insight into the human existence. The science presented is often intriguing and her perceptions moving. However, the book is ambitious in the breadth of its focus and seems to only skim the surface of a subject matter in which Ackerman has only begun to show her mastery. I would have been more satisfied with deeper detail and exposition on the science behind and insights drawn from a narrower scope of observations and events. It must be confessed, though, that Ackerman's essays have whetted my enchantment with and interest in the world around me and this alone makes the book well worth reading.

Lyrical, evocative, moving and...educational!
This is what a nonfiction book should be--thoughtful but packed with info. The author doesn't just give you a laundry list of flora and fauna--she adds her own layer of meaning. I loved it. Cried at the bit with her dad, and would like to know more, but it's probably just as well she didn't dwell on it. Recommended for a blustery day at the shore...or even for inlanders who wish they were there!

A lyrical, interweaving of the human & natural worlds
In Notes From the Shore, Jenny Ackerman makes her mark as an important young writer. Her educated and imaginative relationship with nature makes this a unique and lovely book. The language is lyrical and sometimes startling ("stamps mate shamelessly"). Anyone with an appreciation of the natural world or fine writing will enjoy Notes from the Shore.

The Postage Stamp Garden Book: Grow Tons of Vegetables in Small Places

Great to have the update
As the other reviewers have said, this book is an update from the 1975 (or so) edition which was an inspiration at the time. What seemed the most useful in this edition is an updated seed type and source list, since you are looking for compact forms of most items.

I miss the graphic artist who was involved in the first book. The pictures in the new book are charmless. And the new book lacks the diagram of double-digging that is hard to explain verbally.

And I'm just about to get started this spring on a potato barrel. It would seem like a good candidate for mentioning postage-stamp-wise, yet is not covered.

Incredibly inspirational
I've grown vegetables in the past, when I was a teenager, but now that I'm going to try again in my thirties, I wanted to brush up on the best way to get as many vegetables as possible out of a small mountain garden. Following the authors' directions I measured my space, made a list of the number of plants for each vegetable based on the size of my family, and then used their spacing recommendations to see if it would all fit, taking into account intercropping and succession planting. It all turned out to be fairly easy to accomplish (on paper at least!), and I'm now shopping for seeds. I'll update this review next fall with my results.

Excellent resource for those new to gardening!
I am a gardening dummy and found this book to be a real "bible" for me when starting my first patio and small in-ground garden plot. This books really lays it all out for you. They go into detail about how to do things organically, as well, if you want to go to all the trouble. But they also tell you the easier alternatives (like buying store organic fertilizer). I would recommend this book to new gardeners as well as experienced ones -- lots of tips on how to get all types of vegetables producing a lot of food for you, when to plant, what to plant with, etc.

Characters Who Grow On You
I enjoyed both Redemption, and the latest, Remember. The author has given the reader characters who face real struggles yet grow spiritually in dealing with them. When a character "falls away", the author leaves the reader with the hope that he/she will return and renew their faith. It is easy to feel the heartwrenching pain and heartache the characters experience, as well as the joys. The book is a very easy read, and left me waiting expectantly for the next book, Return. For me, "not wanting a book to end" is the hallmark of a well written book, and is what I've found in the Redemption series.

Great book! I could not put it down!
I have read several books by Karen Kingsbury and she has never failed me yet to supply a great read. The characters in this book show true human nature and emotions. Family emotions and true to life struggle within. How valuable family is to a person. I especially enjoyed the love and concern that our main character Ashley shows to the Alhemizer patients. This is an excellent book, I did not realize it was part of a series so now I can't wait to read the first book in the series "Redemption". Truly a great, moving, enjoyable read. You won't be disappointed.

COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!
This is the first Karen Kingsbury book I have read. I missed the first book but I am going to go back and read it too. I can hardly wait for the next book to come out. What a blessing this book was! I plan to share it with all my friends who love to read like I do. I also plan to read every book by Karen that I can get my hands on! The way she portrays her characters is amazing. It is as if you were living in the Baxter house and you are one of the family. You feel what they feel. I couldn't put this book down. My mom died a few months ago and this has helped me so much to remember her in ways I had never thought of before. The loss has eased somewhat. I hope her other books are this inspiring, uplifting, and helpful. I read one review that said it more of a self help book than fiction. Not So! It's like a buy one get one free! You are not only caught up in the story but at the same time you will reflect on your own life and realize that God is always there waiting for you to give it all to Him and watch Him work!
