Jackie Kroller writes a masterpeice
The story is about an Irish faimily growing up in the depression. It is so gripping that I promise that you would not put it down if you read it. The story has a sadness that you feel, and a houmor that makes you laugh out loud to yourself. Kroller makes you want to live with the charachters, you almost want to talk to them. It is a bittersweet story that you will never forget.

Funny, sweet and sad.
I loved this book. It made me think about my mother who grew up Irish in New York City in the 20's and 30's. I gave it to her to read and she also found it very touching and close to home. Thankyou Jackie French Koller for writing this book.

A moving and clear-eyed view of hardship in the Depression
Set in New York City, the story tells about Danny Garvey and his family's struggles to get enough to eat and keep a roof over their heads. For me this was a one session I couldn't put it down read. The author has a terrific ear for dialogue, and I found myself really caring about these characters. The book is sad and funny in parts and is unblinking in its depiction of how the Depression affected the lives of people. The author gives details about things like Hoovervilles (shantytowns) and the hope with which people greeted the election of Roosevelt as well as weaving a good story. A book that would lend itself to great class discussions.Wonderful descriptions of daily life in 1932- I felt as though I were there.

Great Book!
I started reading Karen Kingsbury a few months ago. As a former agnostic, I understood Jordan's feelings so much. One of the best books I've ever read. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Karen Kingsbury has done it again!!!
I am a huge fan of Karen Kingsbury. Her books are modern and full of today's real life situations that plague Christians everyday. In her latest book, "On Every Side", she has once again managed to bring across a very important issue and wind it around a very touching love story that leaves you feeling that if you just believe, anything is possible with God on your side. A real page turner to the very end, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Christian fiction, even if a romance is not exactly what you read.

An absolute "Must Read"
This is one of the best pieces of fiction I have ever read. The emotions are non-stop from beginning to end. I could feel the pain and the hurts that these characters were going through because the author did such a good job at bringing them to life. It's not just another love story, but a story of justice and sacrifice, of standing up for what you believe in, no matter the cost, and trusting God to honor that stand. I am deeply moved by the strength and innocence of Faith and it convicted me in many ways to realize that I need to be more like her. I can hardly wait to read more of Karen Kingsbury's books.

Realistic story with likeable characters
This is the first book I've read by Ms. Drogin, but it won't be the last. In fact, her subsequent Zebra Bouquet, The Right Choice, is in my To Be Read stack.

Perfect Partners takes two people, both lawyers, who have each suffered the loss of a sibling and thrusts them together for the good of their little niece. Neither hero nor heroine comes into the arrangement without baggage. In order to help the little girl deal with the loss of her mother and father, her aunt and uncle agree to set aside their differences for her welfare. How they work things out and arrive at the final solution is heart wrenching at times.

The author did a wonderful job of creating two 'real people' leads whom I bonded with immediately. Their interactions with each other, their individual emotonal scars and the healing process involved in getting past them were all well-written.

Although this book is out-of-print, it's well worth the reader's time and effort to find it.

A perfect partnering of plot and characterization!
Attorneys Chelsie Russell and Griff Stuart need niece Alix in their lives. Chelsie is determined not to lose her dead sister's little girl, but she fears the emotional loss when her help is no longer needed.

Griff is determined to be the parent Alix needs, but he soon find out he needs Chelsie, too.

Karen Drogin has penned a multi-layered tale of internal conflict and spousal abuse--relevant topics in today's world--but she hasn't shortchanged her readers in the romance department. Perfect Partners sizzles with sexual tension as this story tumbles to its happy conclusion.

Kathee S. Card - Under the Covers Book Reviews
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - Clever, imaginative and excellent describe this Zebra Bouquet launch book. Karen Drogin steps to the cutting edge to investigate some of the hard issues surrounding spousal abuse, and in doing so she gifts her fans with a novel of extreme insight and daring romance. Written with empathy and insight, PERFECT PARTNERS sizzles, crackes and snaps with taut suspense and sexual tension - a novel that fulfills on every level.

What a resource!
I love this series from Rodale and have every one in my library. They do not contain patterns, just instructions with full-color step-by-step photographs. This book covers about any piecing method you might want to review, hand or machine. There are lots of great tips along the way . . . even if you are an experienced quilter, you will get some new ideas from this book.

Lots of tips...
This is an extremely practical book. What I really like about it is all the photos. As a beginning quilter, I find it very useful to see the technique illustrated with a photo. With tips on all kinds of patchwork techniques, this book is an ideal second quilting book (with the first book being a more comprehensive book on the entire quilting process, like Fons and Porter's Quilter's Complete Guide). I really like the sections on problem solving in each chapter. I think this book would be useful for intermediate quilters as well (I assume it's too basic for really advanced quilters).

Perfect Piecing
I own several "how-to" books. I always keep coming back to Perfect Piecing because of the clear, straightforward information. I even recommended it to my Mom, so she might start quilting.

New test for giftedness!
Thanks to Karen Isaacson, we won't need standardized tests to see if children, or their entire families, belong in a gifted program. All we have to do is have them read this book, and wait. If, within minutes, the parent is on the floor hysterically laughing, "I'm not the only one! I'm not the only one!".. her kid gets in the program. As I read this thoroughly enjoyable book I kept wondering how she managed to hide the surveillance equipment she must have installed in my house while MY kids were growing up. Her relaxed, delightful point of view is a gem in this over stressed,what-if-my-kid-isn't-president, panic stricken world of education and parenting. Run, don't walk, to buy this book. Even before you wipe the two pounds of peanut butter off the carpet the kids used in their anti-friction experiment.Especially before you find out which kid did it this time.

A Delightful Read!
I really enjoyed this book. Once you pick it up, you'll find it difficult to put down. This book is helpful and humorous at the same time. It raises the awareness of the dilemas that gifted children (and their parents) often face in school and at home, in an engaging way. Ms. Isaacson has the uncanny ability to make any parent reflect on the uniqueness of their own children. Reading this book gave me a greater appreciation for my own children. Parents and teachers alike, would benefit from reading this laugh-out-loud book.

Don't read Rainin' Brains in a quiet place...
... Because you're going to laugh out loud! Issacson offers a hilarious look at life in a gifted family, with five kids, each as different yet challanging as the one before. From cleaning the kitchen to playing with their food, these kids manage to find fun whatever they do.

My husband accused me of "having entirely too much fun" while reading this book. And he's right - it's great fun! But don't let the kids read it... they might get even more "good" ideas of tricks to play on you!

Klauber rules!
Anything and everything you need to know about these great reptiles! Status, morphology, the rattle, bodily functions, behavior, population and ecology, food, reproduction, venom apparatus, envenomation and its effects, treatment and prevention of envenomation, control an utilization, enemies of rattlesnakes, Indians and rattlesnakes, post-Columbian knowledge of rattlesnakes, myths, folklore and tall stories.

A truly interesting book
I read this book in the mid 90's just for the heck of it, and found it to be wonderful. The style is neither dryly academic nor breathlessly tabloid, but just right. The text answers almost all possible questions about rattlesnake life, legends, myths, and taxonomy that one could think of. It is one of the few books I have read that could be used as either a reference or vacation book.

Chinese customs with a wonderful message for all
Everyone loves this book; mothers, teachers and of course, children. Many books about Chinese New Year are non-fiction books that describe the customs of the holiday. What makes this different is that this is a piece of fiction that gives you all the flavors of what it's like in an urban Chinatown during Chinese New Years while at the same time sending a wonderful message of giving. My 3 and 5 year old love this book. My 5 year old's kindergarten teacher loved the book for the same reasons plus it fostered discusssions about the story and the holiday. A class of 18 children sat quietly; listening attentively. The children found the illustrations fascinating. The teacher even loaned our book to another kindergarten teacher. I'm online because I'm getting them their own copy.

A must to read book for young children!
Great for pre-schoolers to learn about giving and introduce them to Chinese New Year Celebration. Read the book to 3 year olds at a pre-school. Everyone was very attentive. Kids got the message, learnd about giving and appreciation, as well as were introduced to Asian culture. Recommend to ages 3-7.

Great book to read for Chinese New Year school discussion
Read for a pre-k school Chinese New Year celebration and for a kindergarten celebration and all children were very attentive and interested in the story. Also has a good moral message to about giving.

Sarah on Her Own

Review for Sarah on Her Own
This book is one of the best books I have ever read. Each character seems to come alive with each page. By the end of the book you feel like you actually personally know each and every character. I believe it takes a really talented author to make that happen. My favorite character in the book was Sarah. Her determination, courage, and spirit made the book. This book was excellent and I encourage anyone to read it, but I warn you, you won't be able to put it down until you are finished!

I wish I could give it more stars...
Sarah reluctantly travels to Virginia from England with the aunt she has lived with ever since she lost her parents. The journey is long and hard, but the hardship is multiplied when Sarah loses her aunt and finds herself alone in a new world.
Sarah works along side the other colonists, but, instead of working to make a new life, she works to earn enough for passage back to her old one.

As Sarah grows from child to woman, the hunger, death, never ending work, and other challenges that accompany settling a new land bind her to the people around her and forge friendships that make Sarah doubt her determination to leave. And, in a twist of fate, she finds herself losing her heart to a man who loves the land and is just as determined to never leave. Sarah may have finally found the place that she truly belongs, but, when tragedy strikes, will she stand by those who have come to love her or will she finally decide to flee?

This is my absolute favorite book of all time! It is romantic, tragic, adventurous, and ends exactly as it should. If you can find this book, do yourself a huge favor and get it a.s.a.p. If you're like me, you'll read it over, and over, and over again.

A book I still remember after four years.
I read this book four years ago, when it first came out, and I still remember all of it, I enjoyed it so much. It's 1620, and fourteen-year-old Sarah hates the New World the moment she sets foot on it. An orphan, Sarah longs to return to England, and she decides to save up enough money for the journey. The other settlers discourage her, telling her she should either marry or become a servant. Sarah struggles to hold on to her dreams over more than two years as she matures and slowly begins to think of Virginia as her home, even falling in love. But violence and tragedy shatter her world, and she must start all over, with only her courage and hope for the future to sustain her. This is an excellant book, and though it is hard to find now, if you can find it, and you're a teenager that enjoys historical fiction, read it!

I'm not alone
I am so thankful that I found this book! Although no one story exactly matched my experience with my miscarriage, I could relate to portions of almost every story, so that instead of feeling alone and lost I felt comforted, heard and understood. (I was doubly comforted by the fact that many of these women were from my geographical area!) I'm slowly coming to grips with the technical aspects of my miscarriage, but dealing with the emotions has been hard. Reading others' stories has been remarkably healing for me and has encourage me to share my story with others as well. I very highly recommend this book for those struggling with the emotional roller-coaster of miscarriage.

Deeply healing
After the loss of my first pregnancy, I found this book. I was touched to my soul by the pain I found mirrored in the stories I read. I felt less lonely and more hopeful afterwards.

A wonderful book to help with your healing
Having just suffered my first pregnancy loss, I was having a hard time understanding the grieving process. This book was such a wonderful insight for me. It has helped me to turn to poetry, journal writing and talking openly with my spouse. I learned that everyone grieves differently, even though we have all suffered a loss. I will recommend this book to anyone I know who suffers a miscarriage.

This was great!
This book really spoke to me. I loved it!

Enjoyable heartwarming story that will make you smile
Princess Sophie is such a fun & loving person you'll laugh at some of things she does in order to live as a normal person. You'll be cheering for Steven and Princess Sophie to figure out a way to make things work. This story is well written and makes you believe the characters are real people. I didn't want the story to end! I highly recommend this book! This is a book you'll want to keep in your romance book collection to read over & over! Enjoy! :)

A Story To Hug to Your Heart
All Princess Sophie of Carpathia wanted was some time living like a normal person before she returned to her country, married the man who'd proposed (but whom she didn't love) and resumed her duties as one of the royal family. Well, she got her wish and landed smack dab in the middle of Steve Koleski's life. Steve, electrician (and darned good photographer) and guardian of his best friend's 5 kids doesn't know who the woman with the strange hair and clothes is, but he does know that after running through a handful of housekeepers in a matter of weeks, he wasn't about to look a gift in the mouth. So, when Sophie (now aka Lisa Stone) offers her service for two weeks, he hesitates but not for long. A person would have to be blind not to see the rapport she had with kids. So, Steve gets his housekeeper and Lisa gets her two-week in the real world. Little did either know that both would get the lesson of a lifetime in the game of love or that along the way both would learn what is really important in life-and sometimes it's not what we think it is. Sophie must decide whether or not to accept the proposal of a man she likes but doesn't love and Steve must make the painful decision over whether to pursue his dream of photography or stay and take over the family business. I read the book during a time when a medical problem had me wanting a comfort read, and Plain-Jane Princess gave me exactly what I needed. I loved the hero, Steve and the banter between him and Sophie/Lisa is priceless at times. The author's knack for internal dialogue is amazing, especially for Steve. *His* dialogue, both external and internal had me laughing many times throughout the book. He's an honest, caring man with a wicked sense of humor (much comes through in internal dialogue, which for me in a lot of cases is much funnier). Plain-Jane Princess more than deserved its 4½ Top Pick Rating from Romantic Times Magazine. If this book isn't nominated for awards, there is no justice in this world. Ms. Templeton, you've outdone yourself. Thank you for giving readers a story that will stay with them long after the last page is read.
