Wanna get mentally tough(er), this book does a lot of good!
I haven't yet implemented any of the routines/advice mentioned in this book but it appears to be the right advice. The explanations are very concise and succinct, with many psychological readiness assessments in every chapter to be filled in by the reader/competitor with examples of other athelets provided. The only hitch is that it may be a touch difficult to draw up one's schedules for practising mental skills considering the availability of so much info. in the book. Nevertheless, I'm certainly encouraged by it.

Not Specific Enough
Although this book does have good information on '82-92 Camaros, the performance tips are very general. It lacks in-depth specifics on parts and why some performance items work on these cars.

David Shelby Book Much Better
I have read both books and found that the HP Book, by David Shelby had more detailed information than this one. Shelby gives exact camshaft recomendations with different cylinder head configurations as well as an in-depth look at the ECM programming.

Excellent advice if you're on a budget
I've got both this book and Shelby's, and I like both a lot. Another reviewer mentioned they thought this book was too general, but I've found that to actually be helpful, and the author explained that the modifications you need to make depend on your specific needs, situation and budget.

Shelby's book may be more specific, but many of the items he recommends are way out of my price range.

Scott's book recommends some low-buck methods of making some really worthwhile improvements, especially to the suspension, brakes and engine. And there are plenty how-to tips that have probably saved me hours of mistakes.

If you can only afford one of these books, then this one will help more because it'll tell you how to save money on your build-up, too. Or you can do what I did: get both. Their both worth reading.

Reading the Rabbit: Explorations in Warner Bros. Animation

Makes the less scholarly among us feel like a "maroon"
Animation fans be warned--this is anything but light reading.

While I consider myself to be a reasonably intelligent person, I must admit I had considerable trouble slogging through the dense, polysyllabic prose. Once I did so, however, I found the book did contain some interesting observations:

In one installment, one of the book's many co-contributors examines the deconstruction--and reassertion--of gender roles. No news to those of us who are transgendered--the book points out things that many in the TG community find obvious. Namely the main premise, that gender roles are ridiculed (as with Bugs Bunny's crossdressing) in order to reinforce them. Whether the animators themselves had this intention is questionable--they were merely following a formula as old as vaudeville-- but it does make one think. A related essay covers the lampooning of heterosexual behavior in the Pepe Le Pew cartoons. The contributor noticed what I discovered many years ago--that "gay panic" in straight males forces them into the same sort of blissful denial as poor Pepe. They, like Pepe, try to convince the world they are irresistible to women, because that is what defines them as men. Most of all, however, they're trying to convince themselves.

There is also an excellent overview of the portrayal of blacks in Warner Brothers cartoons--it contends, as I have always believed, that the animators themselves were not necessarily racist even if their cartoons sometimes were. The fact that Bob Clampett went so far as to take his animators to a black jazz club in L.A. (as preparation for the brilliant "Coal Black and De Sebben Dwarfs") shows a sincere, if naive, sensitivity on his part. Rather, it was the enforced racial separation of the time--and the resulting ignorance of whites toward black people--that were the real culprits. Those who participated in the making of such cartoons now wish they hadn't--they would hardly have been so contrite if they truly were racist. It is a period they--and we--are now trying too hard to live down.

Given the sometimes insightful essays contained in this book, I wanted desperately to give it a higher rating, but it is weighed down too much by wordy "pedagoguese" for me to give it a higher recommendation. The whole in this case is less than the sum of its parts, and no book that requires one to have a dictionary within arm's reach is fun reading.

Serious, but still fun
Over the last few years, academics have discovered the joy of writing about pop culture phenomena. Some (like the contributors to the book Enterprise Zones, a collection of papers on Star Trek) get lost in a fog of postmodernist critical/cultural theory, churning out abstruse and obtuse collections of quotations from French philosophers, ignoring as much as possible the text under study.

Thankfully, the contributors to this book don't do that. They're writing some serious history and commentary, but the Warner Bros. cartoons remain the focus, not what Jameson said about what Derrida said about what Foucault said. More to the point, even when criticizing elements of the cartoons (as in the paper on representation of black characters), the reader senses that the writers are fans of the Warner Bros. cartoons, flawed though some may be. There's always the sense that, no matter how serious the discussion, this is ultimately about something fun.

Oh, and the editor's comments in the introduction, about the recent dumbing down of the classic characters into friendly TV commercial shills and merchandise movers, is right on the money (so to speak).

A Great Book That Covers Topics Others Wouldn't Think Of
This is a great book for anyone who likes warner brothers animation. This book covers many interesting topics that you normally wouldn't think of. Some on the topics cover Gender Evasion of bugs bunny, African-American:Images and portrayal, temporary Disneyfication of Warner cartoons and fans verses Warner Brothers and even talks about the fans erotic fantasys (some people actually think of that ?)on the internet. It's a really interesting book and I really recomend it. It's not boring like others i've read. Each chapter is also written by a different author ( Kevin Sandler only edited them)so it keep it interesting.

Very detailed, yet not very detailed.
I had a problem with the idle speed on my car, so I bought this book to fix this problem myself. This book was very detailed to help me find my problem. My problem was electrical in nature, and this book instructed me how to do a self-diagnostic. I performed a self-diagnostic and found out the particlular electrical code which was causing my problems. Good. But this book did not tell me which part needed to be replaced in order to fix the problem. I assumed I had to replace the ECM, so I looked it up, and this book told me how to fix and replace everything related to the fuel system except how to replace the ECM. So, now I'm back to square one. In trying to learn more about the electrical workings of the car, I tried to read about all the different systems which proved to be a difficult task because this book scatters information about particular elecrical systems throughout various sections of various chapters making the learning of these electrical systems a task as difficult as fixing most problems on my car.

Electrical plan
I have a problemm with light inside my Cadillac Fleetwood Broham 1993 and signalling into left door.

The Mid-Career Tune-Up: 10 New Habits for Keeping Your Edge in Today's Fast-Paced Workplace

Worthwhile - 3 1/2 stars.
Having reached what feels like a rut in my career - with the accompanying lack of motivation - I noticed this book on a sale-stand and decided to give it a go. The back-cover promises to give your career a tune-up and keep it in prime running condition. I need that.

There are two ways of reading this book. It is organised as a workbook, so the intentions of the authors were probably for readers to diligently work through the exercises. The second option is to skim through the book, and come back to some of the exercises as needed. I decided to take the second approach.

Sub-titled "10 new habits for keeping your edge in today's fast-paced workplace", the book certainly covers relevant topics. Issues covered include focussing on the job, prioritisation, communication skills, networking, problem solving, innovation, and adapting to change. It then prompts the reader to fix their own problems, and to take responsibility for their own performance, and to stay current with their skills.

Reading the book cover to cover is probably not the best approach - no one can have problems with all of the above. I focussed more on a couple of chapters, which I found more relevant. In other chapters I felt that I was being told things I already knew, so I skimmed. But I can see how working through the exercises can help you mentally prepare for the real thing. It should give you a few extra tools in your toolkit.

Will this book change my working habits? I don't know that for sure. But I'll keep it on my shelf for ideas for when I get stuck in a particular area. It may just help me over a hump or two.

A Good Read!
If you're looking for someone to tell you to quit that hum-drum job and go find your true self, look elsewhere. William and Rosemary Salmon have written a book for the moderately alienated masses who have lost their enthusiasm for a job that once sparked their imaginations. Like a tune-up for your car, routine career maintenance can improve your performance. The tools the authors use are communication, relationships and continuous self-improvement. While these habits certainly are worthy, they are not particularly groundbreaking. Readers hoping for a complete career-engine overhaul won't find it here. But if what you need is some routine servicing to get the cylinders firing again, we at ... recommend this book to you.

Not The Best Book On Modifying TPI Engines
I found the John Lingenfelter book by HP to be more informative concerning camshaft and cylinder head combinations for TPI and EFI small block Chevy engines. John Lingenfelter is a well-known racer and now competes in NHRA Pro Stock Truck Series. Lingenfelter also gives various combinations that are proven and dyno tested, making selection very easy for the avid enthusiast.

Lingenfelter Book Much Better
This book is great for a simple history of the TPI and fuel injected engines. However, I found the Lingenfelter book was more detailed in how to properly modify and make great power on TPI engines.

Finally. A TPI book I could understand!
A friend loaned me Lingenfelters book and I agree with the other reviewers here that it has more detailed information about camshafts and cylinder heads. But I felt lost reading it. I had to re-read sections over and over, and some of it still didn't make sense to me. I'm sure he's right, but I just don't know if what he's saying to do applies to me. This book was easy to read, though. It was almost as if the author had written the book just for me. He explained things clearly, but didn't make me feel like the dummy I felt like when reading the lingenfelter book. I really liked how this book focused on street-legal modifications; most books and magazines always seem to talk about expensive racing parts that I can't afford. Yes, this book could be a bit more specific about some topics (especially camshafts) and I would have liked a few more step-by-step instructions. But I wouldn't let those shortcomings keep you from buying it.

It was okay, I didn't like it that much because...
Tune In Anytime was an okay book. Personally, I didn't like it becuase it was very boring. All this girl talked about was her life, and how horrible it was. I do though think Mrs. Caroline B. Cooney is a talented writer, but I found this book not as enjoyable as some of her other titles. I didn't find the way the girl decribed her life as being horrible, it doesn't appeal as a book that would lift my or any teens spirits if they are going through what she did. I gave it three stars for her effort af trying to understand what it is like for us teens, but it wasn't the same. So please think about what I am writing before you spend $ on this title. You may like some other titles though from Mrs. Cooney, like, Flight #116 is Down! or Emergency!

Caroline B Cooney at her best
Tune in anytime by Caroline B. Cooney is my favorite book ; there are many reasons why I love this book.. for one thing it has many examples of internal and external conflict. For example the internal conflict is with Sophie, and her father (Daniel Olivetti) has just filed for divorce , and has fallen in love with his nineteen-year-old daughter's twenty-one year old roommate Persia. You can see the conflict in this story. The external conflict in this story is between Sophie and her father , and between Sophie and Persia. If you are a Caroline B. Cooney fan you will most likely love this book as much as I did. Between Marley (Sophie's sister)falling in love with a doctor, and her parents divorce, you can see this book's all action.. Caroline B. Cooney is a great author and has done a great job on this book. I hope to read more of her books . Well I'd like for you to read this book.. you don't have to but I would highly recommended it.

Awsome!
I have literally read every book Caroline B. Cooney has written and for some reason I put off reading this book. I am not the soap opera type and thought there was no way I would like the book. Boy was I wrong! I finally decided to read it and fell in love with this book! It is really an amazing story. The emotion throughout the whole story is so intense you feel like your in the book! The characters give off a quality that you are still laughing and thinking about weeks later. I found myself taking quotes from the book and using them in conversations. I told every one of my friends to read it and loaned it to everyone I know. This is a really great book!

How to Power Tune Ford SOHC 4-Cylinder Pinto & Cosworth DOHC Engines

pinto/cosworth tuning for fast road or race applications
this is a very good book that has tricks of the trade that can be applied to any sohc or dohc motor out there. highly recommended for people that want to save money by not going the route where there is little to gain in terms of reliability or horsepower. straight and to the point.

Cosworth Tuning Guide
In the world of uncompromised racing engines, few people outside of the manufacturers have real knowledge- this certainly is the case for Cosworth engine conversions covered in Des Hammill's book. Having spent plenty of money in my own dyno sessions, Mr. Hammill got to the point of real working engine packages nicely with head porting, cam, and carburettor specifics; he could have saved me plenty of time and money in development had I known of his work earlier. What he describes can be extrapolated to other Cosworth conversions including Formula Atlantic (Ford), Cosworth-Vega, and Cosworth-Pontiac engine street/race tunings. It's indeed a rarified atmosphere at this level, only recently broached by Honda with their S2000, and you won't find Steve Jennings writing about his top-flight engine tuning/tricks anywhere! Its a world where 2-valve motor rules-of-thumb and assumptions don't apply: just ask David Vizard. Complaints? I do wish the DOHC section had been more than just a single chapter, but what's there is gold!

How to power tune ford sohc
Excellent , much usefull information...Not any usefull information for the Greasy Mother crowd...I mean General motors ...

Only Fair
Introduces topics without prior explanation. Little theory on how to apply the content. There's better books out there.

The Book is okay but it's the CD that makes this a GOOD buy!
Sure, the book goes over some of the basics and there are better books out there but I personally bought this for the CD. The CD has 3 blues jam tracks that allow you to wail away on your own improvised leads. Also, if you're having problems tuning your guitar both the book and the CD are a big help. Furthermore, for those of you who have trouble understanding all the little symbols and numbers that make up tablature, Larry Carlton completely defines how to play Tablature on his guitar as you listen to the CD and follow along in the book.

Good book - easy to understand, nice diagrams and charts
I found this to be a pretty decent book for showing you the basics of guitar playing, soloing, etc. It's probably better if you already know at least a little bit of guitar.. the ablsolute beginner might be a bit lost. Wicked finger picking section! One and 3/4 thumbs up!
