A good one
I am very pleased with this book. It includes a wonderful variety of good old fashioned Irish songs (such as "Irish Eyes are Smiling", "The Irish Washerwoman", "Danny Boy", "The Kerry Dance" and "Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ral" just to mention a few) and are arranged with the beginner in mind. 37 songs are contained in this 80 page book.

Any beginner interested in Irish music would appreciate this book. Though, I am no critic, I would suggest this to all interested.

Lots of Tunes,Tunes,Tunes
This is a great collection of LOTS of tunes, as the title implies. They are arranged in standard notation and tablature. No instruction, just tunes, so if you want instruction this book is not for you. Good way to build a tune vocabulary though.

The Piper's Tune

Insightful early Edwardian age tale
Perhaps it is simply because of his age or more complexly the end of Pax Britannia, but Scottish family patriarch Owen Franklin retires from heading up the family shipbuilding business. While the European superpowers begin an arms race heading towards the Great War, Owen distributes shares of stock to his male descendent and to their shock his granddaughter Lindsay.

Her "partners" believe Lindsay being a teenage female will be easy to manipulate. They even foster an Irish cousin Forbes McCullough on her. However, as the twentieth century begins to unfold, Lindsay is determined to understand her family business so that she can contribute. She quickly learns one of the principles of life that a woman must be at least twice as smart and toil twice as hard as a male to gain a semblance of acceptance and respect. Now she begins a trek to gain control of her life and the family ship building company as the men in her circle try to manipulate her in the boardroom and the bedroom.

THE PIPER'S TUNE, a turn of the previous century character study, digs deep into a bygone era so that fans of historical novels will have a taste for the early Edwardian age. However, the story line moves very slowly as the heroine leisurely and at times tediously learns about life while competing with males. The metamorphosis of Lindsay will engage those readers who relish a casually paced plot that Jessica Stirling microscopically focuses on the heroine.

I think it's a very practical book for teaching English.
I'm an English teacher, and I'd like to know more about this series of IN TUNE book, although I''ve been looking for more information and I need to buy the Teacher's books for this series. Every time I search forward to get in touch with the publisher they don't have them.

haunting and surprisingly sweet
I found this book in a school library, and enjoyed it greatly. It starts with the apparently worn theme of adolescence and its endless ennui, but quickly takes off in a fresh vein with her learning to play a harmonica. I especially enjoyed the depictions of her therapy sessions with the psychiatrist who smelled of bananas and burst out with his own problems. There are several unexpected twists, but what I enjoyed the most was the sympathetic depiction of a believable and ultimately very lovable young woman. I recommend it highly.

Beginning with proper tunes!
I think this inexpensive book is a gem! I have found it suitable for use as teaching material with pupils of all ages. The progressive layout is attractive and easy to follow, with modern illustrations and text supporting the printed music. As my title suggests, one of its plus points is that, on the whole, the book offers REAL tunes for students to play (particularly important for older learners!) rather than specially concocted ones. Reservations? Some of the "advice" given is, perhaps, down to personal opinion (e.g. cleaning strings with eau de cologne!). Basically though, this book will encourage, rather than put off, the beginning pupil and carry them onto greater things!

Veggie Tunes CD great for kids
This is a really great CD that kids will enjoy if they have seen any of the Veggie Tales videos. It takes songs and skit parts from the videos and reinforces the lessons with bouncy songs. My three year old insisted on listening to this every day on the way back and forth to preschool and knows all of the lyrics to the songs. It may drive the parents a little batty after a while, though, unless they are huge Veggie Tales fans as well.
