An excellent resource on 18thc. American hymnody.
I find this book an excellent source for 18thc. American hymnody. It is one of the very few facsimiles of it's type. Most original psalters and hymnals are only available to scholars on microfilm or just to look at. They are rarely reproduced as they are often very fragile from much use. Having this resource allows us to use an actual book in our interpretations of colonial music. Thank you, Da Capo Press...do a Watt's Hymnal with music next! Good overview of various guitar techniques
By the title, I thought this book was only a songbook. It's actually a brief history and overview of guitar techniques ranging from flamenco to blues to rock. I love the way the book explains clearly the difference between electric, acoustic and classical guitars. It includes finger-picking techniques and explains reading music. This book is perfect for me as I played classical guitar for many years but haven't played for a while (10 years) and needed a book like this to refresh my memory. I'm not happy that it is on back-order. My current copy is from the library.

Elmer Batters : Legs That Dance to Elmer's Tune
Very good. I've always loved Batters work. I only wish the pictures had some documentation. Dates, names, locations, ect. Still, you can't go worng with this book. Does anyone know if any of his VHS tapes are still around?

Girls will like this too!
I suppose men will think this book is just for them. But it will also appeal to those of us who like wearing stockings and lingerie. It will give us some ideas of how to do it!

feet in nylon, need i say more...
great book for a leg and foot fan.

The Untold Story
I would like to know where the book tells about Chubby's other family living in Georgia and Florida. He had a wife before Rossy and she was no stupid farmgirl. He also had a daughter that loved her father more than anything. Where in the book does it talk about them. It does not say a single word because of one women could not stand to have anything to do with his other family. If women would leave married men alone (this goes both ways), maybe the right family would be in the book. The picture of Chubby's step-grandson is a slap in the face to my husband. He is the bloodline of Chubby Wise. I feel my husband's family deserves a right to tell the unknown years of what really happened and how Rossy became Mrs. Wise. I enjoy knowing Chubby was my husband's grandfather, but on the other hand, I get really upset when I hear how much pain and greif was caused by this piece of history.

Family Reunions with Ervin T. Rouse
I am proud to know that Ervin has finally been recognized for his raw genious in playing the fiddle, composing music, performing for us when I was growing up, and telling about many of the episodes written about in the Orange Blossom Boys. Rany Noles did his research and answered questions which needed to be made known about the life of Ervin, Gordon, his siblings and the joy they brought to many as they sang and made music with the best of Artist, including Johnny Cash. I learned more than we ever knew, as I sat, spellbound, reading the book. Now, I can say I have read the book through and through several times. It is wonderful. I was born April 28,1929 and was privileged to record the Rouse's music when they visited my home. It is my hope that a Documentary will be forthcoming. Ervin ranks right up there with Bill Monroe, The Carter Family, Flatt and Scruggs,Doc Watson, Roy Acuff, etc. He is an Icon in Blue Grass, and respected by the best of them in the business. The Orange Blossom Special is likened to The Star Spangled Banner by me and my relatives. Audrey W. Hartsoe, 24 Scott Place, Clinton, N.
C.28328 PS I did speak with Randy Noles upon receipt of the book; it is wonderful!

finally, the real story is told!
What a wonderful job Mr. Noles does in telling the story and interweaving the lives of these two unfortunate souls against a backdrop of old Florida. He is able to convert his massive research into such an interesting read; I had difficulty putting it down!

Eh- not that great
The book was not bad at all, but the story sucked! I have never read a book with such a slow and boring story line. I am in grade nine and read every kind of book, but this one was a terrible disappointment after all of the good reviews!

A marvellous introduction to the fantasy genre
This book is one of the very first fantasy novels I have read. I found The Druid's Tune amazing when I first read it at age fourteen, and up to this day, I still find it wonderfully engrossing! The idea of two modern day teenagers being transported into another time/world is nothing new, but O.R. Melling made up for this cliched storyline by her powerful characterization skills, and rich description of the world of the Tain. I highly recommend this book to fantasy lovers everywhere.

A Solid Stroy
I enjoyed this book a lot. It really relates the past with the present and links the situations. It is a very interesting book for those who enjoy reading about time travelling and love to experience new things all the time.

Not what most theatre buffs would hope for
As one of the last important figures in 20th Century musical theatre, Tommy Tune was part of many important shows. One would hope his autobiography would include at least some insight into his performing and directing techniques -- but such is not the case here. As for his personal life, Mr. Tune shares a great deal -- but it is hard to rely on the frankness of someone who seems to change his sexual preferences as easily as most of us change clothes. And the chapter discussing the woman he wronged but refuses to name is so obvious in who it refers to that the author's sincerity rings false. Some interesting anecdotes and photos not found elsewhere, but overall a great disappointment.

A Definite Ten
Like a wonderful Broadway play, FOOTNOTES keeps its audience spellbound from the opening scene. This beautiful memoir is deeply moving, extremely interesting, and at times, delightfully humorous. All of Tommy Tune's stories, from dance recitals and backyard musical productions of his childhood to his personal relationships and professional triumphs in New York, are fascinating. Generosity and loyalty are abundant as he praises many who have influenced and supported his artistry as well as those who have contributed to his personal sense of well-being. In the theatre, Tommy Tune has always enlightened us with beauty and truth, and he does it again in this book as he bares his soul so we can see the truth in his heart. What we discover is a caring, compassionate man of integrity who also happens to be an artistic genius. I didn't want this book to end. ....

A Piece of Tommy Tune's Heart
Footnotes was one of the most honest and heartwarming memoirs I have ever read. Tommy Tune's honesty and openness with his readers is incredible. He has definately shared a part of himself with all of us. This kind and generous man is tops with me. While reading Footnotes I laughed, cried, and truly came to know this wonderful man. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Well-written and Exciting!
As a resident of the Gulf Coast and frequent visitor to the Mississippi casinos, I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Rickman's book. The story is well-written and I found the details of the "behind-the-scenes" operations of the casino business exciting and informative. Also, the threat of the hurricane was very real and brought back recent memories. I'm looking forward to Ms. Rickman's next book!

An ace of a love story amidst the Gulf Coast casinos

Sam Bennett feels he lives the ideal lifestyle. He loves running a Reno casino and deeply cherishes his spouse Azia. However, heaven crashes when Azia dies in a camping accident. Five years later, Sam still has not gotten over his grief nor his guilt. However, Sam tries another new start when he takes over managing the new Sand Dollar Casino and Hotel in Biloxi, Mississippi.

However, Sam was not ready for the restart of the beating of his heart. When he first sees his assistant Abby Thompson, Sam is stunned. He realizes for the first time since Azia died, he finds a woman attractive and fascinating. Surprising herself after a disastrous affair in Nevada, Abby reciprocates Sam's feelings. As they fall in love, a hurricane threatens to destroy their casino. Besides needing to overcome the specter of their previous relationships, they also have to surmount danger from a real sentient being out of their Nevada past.

THE JOKER'S LOVE TUNE provides readers a feel for the new Mississippi as the author brillainatly describes the clash of cultures between casinos and the old-time Gulf Coast residents. The subplots are quite interesting and add to the contemporary romance by providing the readers with glimpses behind the scenes of a casino and the terror caused by a pending hurricane. Abby and Sam are a perfect pair from the first moment they met even though they have a lot of baggage to recycle. Rolling a seven, Sidney Rickman proves he is no joker when it comes to scribing a warm, exciting tale.

Loved this book!
I thoroughly enjoyed "The Joker's Love Tune." The characters are believable, the story is fast-paced, and the dialogue is intelligent. Abby, the chief character, is very appealing. She's a strong, independent woman, but one who has not lost her femininity. From the beginning it's obvious that she and Sam are perfect for each other, but the two of them have to overcome the shadows of their pasts before they can believe in love again. The book has an unusual setting in the casino world of the Gulf Coast, and it builds to an exciting thriller-like climax. I hope to see more books from this new author.

What a Concept !
This book is a long time coming. I mean, really when you think about it , we really ARE what we listen to. This book hits right at the heart of the matter. It has the favorite records of everyone from Monica Lewinski to Shaquille O'Neal to Wynona Ryders to Nikki Sixx' to David Schwimmer to Jackie Chan to Joan Rivers to you Name it... This is a very revealing look at Celebrity record collections like I have never seen it before . Bravo! Bravo !

Music of the famous
When I saw that one of Monica Lewinski's favorite albums is "Sexual Healing," I had to buy this book. It's got a bunch of lists from interesting people. Checking out their musical tastes is really fun. This is a cool book that's more than worth a look.

Helps me discover new music!
How refreshing to have access to a book that lets me see what music influences the celebrities that I like and lets me learn about new music I may want to buy!

Porsche 911 Performance Handbook: How to Choose, Install, Tune and Maintain Performance Equipment for Your 911-All Models, 1965 on Including Turpo, Sp

Porsche 911 Performance Handbook (Performance Handbook Serie
I have both a late model Turbo and looking for a 993 Supercup. The technical specs are good but the book jumps around in the model years. It is very funny to see Corvette wheels in a Porsche book. There are also too many high dollar advertising plugs. If you use Andial or Promotive to build you an engine-it's gonna cost you 30K. How's that for advise!!

Thorough and interesting technical resource on the 911
Bruce Anderson, author of several Porsche books, has created a book that any Porsche enthusiast who aspires to learn the technical wizardry behind these machines shouldn't be without. The book, now in its second edition, covers all 911 models through 1996 and includes detailed photos, charts, and diagrams that will allow you to determine how effective that engine rebuild, exhaust modification, brake upgrade, suspension change, or chip switch will be. And for those who are not yet owners a chapter on buying a used 911 covers what parts of the car warrant a detailed inspection, descriptions of where the car wears quickly, and details on the known problems for various models.

Excellent Performance Overview
Bruce's grasp of the intricacies of the 911 engine is excellent. This book is one of the best sources of information regarding the 911, and should be a staple in any owner's collection. The book focuses on the history of the 911 engine from a technical perspective, and then talks about performance modifications that can be performed on your car. The focus is the engine, with a lesser focus on the rest of the car's subsystems. The book's one drawback is the layout - the pictures don't match the text on the pages, and the index is just about useless. The book takes on more of an overview of the performance upgrade process with very little how-to focus. It's a great reference for learning about the modifications that you would want your mechanic or engine rebuilder to perform. Bruce's knowledge and integrity in his recommendations are also well respected in the Porsche industry.

Teacher with guts
Janet Farquhar's Taught to the Tune takes one on an adventure that very few teachers have experienced.
Beth McKay, city bred and just out of college, gets her first teaching job in a one room school in the mountains of western Colorado. With true courage and grit, and with the help of Andy Benton, she contends with the problems of an overbearing retired school teacher, unaccepting parents, uncooperative students, and an archaic school system, plus unbelievably primitive living conditions. As Andy said, "That took guts."
It is hoped Ms. Farquhar will continue to tell such wholesome, interesting, and worth-while tales.

Taught to the Tune
Janet Farquhar has captured a time and a place, though not in the distant past, that has all but vanished from our lives.
A one room school house presents a challenge to young city-bred Beth McKay, who, just out of college, finds herself living the life of a pioneer in the mountains of western Colorado. With courage she solves the problems of of dealing with a retired and domineering former teacher of the old school, unaccepting parents, some uncooperative pupils, and extremely primitive living conditions. A new teacher thrust into such situations would be hard pressed not to throw in the towel, but Miss McKay sticks it out and comes out a winner, and as Andy says, "That took guts." The innovative teaching methods could serve as a help to any teacher.

It is hoped that Ms. Farquhar will continue writing such down-to-earth and pleasant books.

Pageturner
Beth McKay discovers that the pupils in her one room school have been physically abused by their former teacher. She works hard to overcome their suspicion, fear and disruptive behavior. Then she has to fight off some of the parents urged on by the former teacher who takes Beth's different approach as a judgement on her own. Beth is supported through all this by a young man, another teacher who is on sabbatical.

All the characters are real in their humaness, including the children, the story is suspensful and the writing excellent.
