I have found Sports Medicine Advisor extremely helpful in my practice as an NP. My peers consult it regularly. It really helps patients understand their injuries and it gives them an important role in their own recovery. They can take some control over their rehabilitation, have a better understanding of what happened to them, and how to prevent recurrence of their injuries.

As an NP educator, I have recommended the book to my students for the past four years in two of my courses. It is on my bibliography and I endorse it wholeheartedly. It is a unique, easily understood text for both the beginner and the more expert.

Students are eager for information around orthopedic and sports injuries and this text provides them with a practical, common sense approach to evaluation and management of orthopedic injuries. Students don't always buy books that are recommended, but they have embraced this book as essential to their learning and a valuable resource for their clinical practice. They also see that their preceptors in clinical practice use the book very frequently.

The Sports Medicine Patient Advisor is excellent. I have referred to the book, unfortunately more than I would like, because of my sports related injuries such as sprain ankles, lower back problems, strains and others. Also, my kids have also benefited from the information. I especially like to the way it's written, easy to understand without a lot of text. Also, the illustrations are fantastic; they augment the text well and make it easy to follow the rehabilitation exercises. The Sports Medicine Advisor represents the best in its category, a great example for other similar books. I would like to thank the author, Dr. Rouzier, for helping me through physician challenges of an active lifestyle. I would recommend the book highly!

This is an excellent book. I am very disapointed to find that it is out of print. My Mother used to read me this book over and over again. I still can't get enough of the wonderful stories and illustrations. My new daughter loves it too. This book shaped my imagination in such a way that I still wonder if faieries and elves are real. This book added mystery and and spark to nature for me as a child. My Mother and I still enjoy reciting the passages we can remember. It was this book that encouraged me to read and I enjoy reading it to myself to this day. The stories are like no other new children's book I have read. This is a wonderful, imaginative collection of stories and poems for kids. "Bad Mousie" and the story about the girl who lived on the flying city were two of my favorites from this collection. The illustrations are marvelous. This was one of my favorite books as a child, and it is strange that it is no longer available. It is such a timeless classic...

I've got a copy of this- it's a great book. My grandma gave it to my mother and her sister in 1957, and it's still with us....a little battered, but still there. My mum used to read it to me and my brother, the illustrations are beautiful and they sparked off my imagination many times. It's a wonderful collection of original stories- I wish they'd do a reprint so children today could enjoy it.

Maybury cuts to the heart of what all well-intentioned religions and philosophies have in common with his 17 words: "Do all that you agree to do, and do not encroach upon other persons or their property." I have taught this as a mini-ethics course at my high school- one made up of over 60 ethnicities and nationalities- and all students understand it. Given the recent Florida election law war ,this book serves as a timely reminder that ultimately law must be found not in overly detailed law books, but in people's hearts. This book was recommended to me by author Harold Klemp (Autobiography of a Modern Prophet) who finds these 2 principles useful as an aid to spiritual living. So do I!

This is one of the very best books I have ever read,one of those that have actually shaped my thinking and that of many others! A book to be put in the not to be missed category! It deals with common law and politics and economy, all unavoidable aspects of our daily life, but most of all it deals with the hidden aspects of two laws, the ramifications of which politicians do not want us to know so we stay under their power. His thinking is so razor edged, one can only be thankful for having been woken from ones slumber.

You know all of those self-help books, the ones you read so that you can gain a better understanding of yourself?And once you read them you feel WORSE than you did before? Well, this book isn't one of those. After reading Robert and Jane Alter's book, cover-to-cover, I discovered a calmness, a peaceful feeling that no other book has ever given to me. In reading, I discovered that I am not alone in the many situations that life has visited upon me, and that there is a window that, when ready, anyone can climb through and find him or herself in a more tranquill place. Thank you, Robert and Jane, for a loving, spiritual, affirming and educational look at reality.

This book is filled with wonderful advice in a short-story format that is mind-opening and easy to read. I could easily relate aspects of my life to many of the issues discussed and the insight and experience of the authors was communicated with a rational common sense approach. The blend of humor and practical advice make this a book that I will refer to time and again.

This book beautifully shows the path to both spiritual and psychological health. The chapters are short and loaded with wisdom. It is a book to read and re-read many times. Along with Walden and How To Be An Adult, it is one of the few books I will keep and re-read many times in my life.

I have read many books by Mary Stewart, and this is one of her best. I like reading her books because the story usually takes place in far off places, like this on, in Greece. Reading this book made me want to visit Greece myself and find out the hidden history/treasures of Greece. I find most of Ms. Stewart's book enjoyable, but this is one of my favorites.

I love all of Mary Stewart's early suspense novels and wish I could buy new copies of them because the battered old ones I have are 20-30 years old, yellowing, and falling apart from repeated re-readings.

I particularly loved the ones set in Greece which was a country that had always captured my imagination. This one in particular made me want to go to Greece and see Delphi and The Charioteer. Five years ago when I finally beheld The Charioteer myself and stood on the theater at Delphi and looked out over the mountains my first thoughts were of Mary Stewart. I recommend this book highly to anyone who can find a copy of it. It is well worth because it is a marvelous read as are all of Mary Stewart's earlier books.

Sadly it appears that most of her early wonderful books are out of print, and the only ones still available are mainly the later and less skillful novels - though a few of the good early ones are still available.

Look for this one. It's a winner.

35 years ago, as a very young girl, I also dreamed of visiting Greece after reading this book and "The Moonspinners". I see that all this time later, Mary Stewart's wonderful stories are still working the same magic... I love all of her books - she will always have a special place among my favorite authors - for her dry and subtle sense of humor, great storytelling ability and of course... that rich descriptive prose (I can't think of anyone else who does it so well). The Merlin books are being reissued - so should all of the romantic suspense (or should they be in the travel section?) :)

In this book Schaberg skillfully and insightfully sifts through the layers of legends that have accrued to the figure of Mary Magdalene in order to "resurrect" this important figure in Christian history. In contrast to other books which simply recount the many legends associated with the Magdalene, Schaberg undertakes a critical analysis of these legends, demonstrating ways in which the legends have been used to both empower and depower the Magdalene. In successive chapters, Schaberg examines archaeological remains, depictions of the Magdalene in film and literature, the transformation of the Magdalene from "apostolic witness" to "whore", and gnostic/apocryphal traditions associated with the Magdalene. In concluding chapters Schaberg points to Mary Magdalene and the discovery of the empty tomb as the source of resurrection faith, and makes a bold and persuasive argument for Mary Magdalene as the prophetic successor of Jesus, similar to the way in which Elisha succeeded Elijah. Schaberg's proposition for "Magdalene Christianity" invites serious reconsideration of previous reconstructions of Christian origins. This is a book that will be of interest to students of the Bible and early Christianity, as well as those engaged in women's studies. It is a challenging and worthwhile read.

This is a masterful book. The scholarship is impressive, but it is the combination of solid learning with the personal that is unusual and engaging. Schaberg is fearlessly feminist, but this is not a polemic. She is persuasive and at times even poetic. For those interested in Mary Magdalene or Virginia Woolf this book is a must-read, but everyone interested in the origins of Christianity and the impact of patriarchy on human institutions will find a great deal of interest here.

Interesting possibilities emerge in a reader's mind as one sees Mary Magdalene's interaction with Jesus and the apostles. This book examines all sides of the biblical stories and raises provoking thought of her role in the life of Jesus. The Resurrection of Mary Magdalene is done with careful research and it encourages thought and discussion.
I consider the controversies here a challenge to the curious reader and ones to fire the imagination of the poorly informed. I give the book five stars.

As a 40 year old adult, I purchased this book because of my interest in birds and to review the content for my two nieces. This book turned out to be an exciting learning tool that completely held my interest. The reader is drawn into the content of the book as you go outside into the fresh air and interact with nature. What a wonderful job the author has done with the photos and the outlined activities. You can use this book over and over again, as each time you go outside, something is always different.

I am looking forward to reading further works from this author. I am sure my nieces will find this book as enjoyable as I have.

What a fabulous book, we love it!!! The author of this book visited my sons school and gave a great presentation on this book to the students. I ordered a copy of the book because as both an educator and a mother it seemed like a great idea and fascinated me. I was not disappointed when the book came home, I looked through it and found it to be both detailed and easy to follow.The pictures are great and the author shows the children how to record their observations with organized charts in the book right there for them while they are out observing. There are many follow up activities with web pages to visit and ways to remain involved with birds in your own backyard so it does not have to end with the walk. This is something to get the kids outside enjoying nature once again in this largely technological world and it does not cost a lot of money, that in itself is hard to find now a-days. I think the book is great for kids of all ages as I have three kids who are 7, 8 anbd 11 and they all enjoyed it. The best part for me was that they were anxious to go talk a hike and look for all the birds we read about and see who could spot the most and be able to name them from what we had read. They did not complain about having to walk away from their Game Boys, Playstations,or T.v.'s. Anything that can do that, in my opinion, is a 5 star book.

After many years of placing "Jane Eyre" at the top of my "favorite stories of all time" list, I was glad when my husband gave me this book so I could read some of Bronte's other novels.

What I found was that I liked "Villette" even more than "Jane Eyre" - and, although it was arduous at first, I found "Shirley" was better yet.

"Jane Eyre", for anyone who hasn't read it, is a wonderful gothic romance, moralistic and spiritual, a very good read and fascinating tale.

"Villette" is more mature. The author explores a deeper sort of love - not based on mere physical attraction or infatuation, but based on deep, abiding friendship and respect. This story, too, has its lessons.

The character development in "Villette" was more complete than in any other novel I've ever read. I became fascinated by the unattractive little professor, and by other characters as well.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of French in this story, and what appeared to be the most pivotal moments were written in French... dialogue that I really wanted to understand was just lost on me. That was truly unfortunate. I'll have to find someone to translate for me sometime.

"Shirley" is the best of all. The beginning is arduous. I had to use my dictionary throughout, but the beginning is particular difficult. Shall I say.. boring, even. I found that, once I forced myself through the beginning, I was very much rewarded.

This story is a gem. The female heroines - Shirley and Caroline - were wonderful to get to know. Shirley is not the sort of female I would have thought Bronte had had occasion to know, so this was enlightening for me.

Truly an eye-opening look at 19th century feminism! And incorporated into these wonderful romance stories.

"The Professor" was a bit more dry than the others, although it was fun to read a romance story strictly from the male viewpoint. For a first novel, this was really incredibly well written.

As for "Wuthering Heights", it's been a number of years since I've read the story, so I won't attempt a review here.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes "Wuthering Heights" or "Jane Eyre". All these stories are wonderfully written, with complex characters and interesting plots. The work of true genius.

This novel was written as a looking glass into the life of one Jane Eyre. Welcome to her thoughts, her advice, and descriptions of her beliefs. But before you venture off, keep on the look-out for the contrast that exist in her thoughts compared to your own. By finding contrast you will observe some of the similiarities in her thinking to your own. "listen, then, JaneEyre, to you sentence: to-morrow, place the glass before you, and draw in chalk your own picture, faith-fully, without softening one defect; omit no harsh line, smooth away no displeasing irregularity, write under it, "Portrait of a Governess, Disconnected, poor, and plain." In the novel you come to understand Jane as a strong person with even stronger beliefs that she lives by. You now get a feeling of the contrast of her life. By re-reading the line notice the way she judges and punishes herself for what she finds fualty in her life. An entire novel is created around these constraints and contradiction. You may come to understand a small portion of yourself through Jane's contrasting life.

I thought it was a good book

This book has come to mean so much to our family...the simple story of the faerie boy and human girl teaches us about strength of character and appreciating differences, true. But as a Wiccan mother, this story has a special meaning for my children about being open to magical adventures and yet staying grounded in their own identity. The illustrations are breathtaking, and the poetry practically sings right off the pages. This book should be on every child's shelf.

This book is absolutely beautiful! The illustrations are gorgeous and the poetical rhythm of the rhymes that accompany the pictures are nothing short of lyrical. My favorite bit though, is the ending, where the author urges her young readers to " Be brave, be bold, be unafraid..." It takes traditional children's rhymes to a new level, reminiscent of old world poetry, and yet it is lively, easy to understand and fun to read out loud. It is simply literature for young children at its best!

I discovered this book in a class about writing children's books. While I have read many books by Jane Yolen, I can honestly say this is one of my favorite Yolen books with a poem as text. The poetry is intricate yet appears simple. This is a story that must be read aloud, simply to delight in the rhythm and the story. The illustrations are stunning, accentuating an already wonderful story. I strongly recommend this book for children, particularly in a read aloud setting. I also recommend this book for adults who love all things faerie or who appreciate a sweet tale that almost sings.
