One of the best book ever written.
I read this book for the first time in high school and I feel like I owe it to my english teacher for introducing me to the world of Jane Austen. Pride and Predjudice is hands down my favorite novel of hers. I am so impressed with the superbly written dialogue and consistency of all the characters. While reading it, my mind became enraptured with the story and I felt like I was actually a bystander in the book observing Lizzy's and Darcy's relationship and how beautifully their feelings for each other evolved throughout the story. This book is definately appropriate for the mature reader as well as the young at heart. Thumbs up to the great Jane Austen!

Completely Absorbing
Pride and Prejudice is a story I could easily read once a year. Jane Austen's characters are expertly drawn; they entertain and enchant. I simply could not put this book down, and when it was over I longed for it to continue!

A Great Collection!
This is a great collection for a new Jane Austen fan. It showcases some of her best work but the price is right if you're not sure you want to invest in hard cover editions just yet.

A keeper!
I have only a handful of time travel romance novels that I will read over and over again, even though I know the story by heart. This is one of them. The plot is believable and although the heroine seems to get picked on physically quite a bit, she does bounce back and never stops trying to make sense of her new life. I'm sorry the author named her Maggie, the name seemed more like a servant's name of that era, especially since none of the other main characters used nicknames and her "real" name had been Susan, not Susie.

A favorite
This is the third book I've read by Jane Goodger and definetly one of the best! I didn't think anything could top Dancing with Sin, but this book is wonderful. I find myself still thinking about the Maggie and Carter even after the story has ended.

A Rarity in the Romance Field
I wasn't expecting much when my sister gave me this book to read. Although, I like time travel romances, most of them are much fluff and junk. This one, I have to say, draws you into the story and hooks you like a true, hard-core romantic story should. Can you imagine waking up in another century to find out that everyone and I mean everyone, including the servants, can't stand you? To go from a perfect, pretty blond with a loving husband to a sloppy, lazy, dark-haired, sleazy slut??!! To find out in the past century that you have a most incrediable, handsome husband of a man whom you find yourself falling in love with and that he'd rather jump into a lake than be near you? That's exactly what "Maggie" went through! Talk about a harsh life! There hasn't been another time travel book that I've read that can match the story-telling, romance and passion in this one book! Buy it, if you can get your hands on a copy, it's definitely worth it.

It was great!!!!
This book is great but don't get discourged by it's size. I read this book in 2 and a half days. It was that good. It's about this girl Amber who goes to Malibu for the summer. She dreams of meeting a handsom young man. She meets 4 and the one she least expected to like her likes her. She makes cool friends and goes to awsome parties. Makes tons of money.(the parents of the family just parcticly throws it at her) Besides what can get any better than a summer in Malibu!!!

Malibu Summer a great novel.
This book was wonderful I loved it. It was very well written and the way author decribed Ambers thoughts, and what was happing to her was wonderful. Amber has a summer that she will never forget and full of love. I recommended this book to many of my friends whom may not even read on their own time, but they read Malibu Summer and enjoyed as much has I did. I've also read other books by Jane Claypool Miner that gave the same effect that this book did on me. Her novels are very good.

"Malibu Summer",the book of sun, sand, and California loves.
The book "Malibu Summer" written by Jane Claypool Miner, was one of the most interesting and fun books I have ever read. I enjoyed this book so much I had trouble putting it down. Within hours I finished it. The book focuses mainly around a 16 year old girl named Amber and her adventures when she travels all the way to California to babysit a small child who needed to be looked after. The book made me feel like I was right there in California with her, enjoying the warm sand and the cool ocean breeze. There are three guys that Amber encounters on her trip and I found it really exciting to see if I could figure out which one of them she would end up falling in love with.If the male characters in the book where not ficticious I also believe I would fall in love with them through how the author described them. I especially adored the end, where there was a twist of irony. I love romance books and I believe this is the greatest romance book of all time. By just looking at the front and back cover of this book I was convinced it would be worthwhile to read, which it was. My friend also felt the same way and she bought the book also. I would definately recommend this book to teens of all ages because I loved reading it so much. And after reading this book that is exactly what I did. I told my friends about the book and they where as excited as I was to read it. I think that Jane Claypool Miner is a tremendous writer and I am really glad to have read her book because sincerely I don't think I have read such a great book in all of my life.

A must read for all riders!
No matter what your dicipline, this is THE book to read if you want to make your horse balenced, supple, and easier to ride! Jane Savioe writes in a very clear and concise way. As a dressage rider I admire her use of the tranining scale and German system. All the dressage theory in the world doesn't help if you can't put it into practice on less than perfect horses! I also highly reccomend her second book as well. The description of the half halt is the best I've seen. These books are a good reference source for the pleasure rider, and as a complament to a lesson program. I can tell from experience that it is easier to do a little reading now then to go back and fix mistakes later!

ABSOLUTE BEGINNER TO DRESSAGE GAINED GREATER KNOWLEDGE
I read this book in anticipation of my first dressage lesson, and have gained great insight into this beautiful form of communicating with your horse. I now understand how to get the horse to respond to those invisible cues and why they do. I believe this book is perfect for anyone wanting to effectively and humanely communicate with their horse!

We're regularly in the prize line-up since reading this book
I compete at a novice level in eventing, and ride in dressage and jumping events in the off-season - but never very succesfully. However, since reading this book, and trying to apply Ms Savoie's principles, my horse and I almost always find ourselves lining up to collect prizes. Although this book explains the basic principles of riding in a readable and simple style, Ms Savoie provides as comprehensive an introduction to the subject as I've seen anywhere. The illustrations are pertinent, and contribute significantly to understanding the text. Often, when I am struggling with a problem with my horse, I go back to this book for assistance - and invariably there is something that helps. I've recently bought Ms Savoie's sequel to this book, such is the confidence that I now have in her writing!

Watch out!
To some romance readers Jane Graves might be better known for her Harlequin titles under the name of Jane Sullivan. I GOT YOU, BABE is her first single title release and it is a very sexy, witty and funny debut.

On the run from the police and one mean bounty hunter, stuck with a broken down car, no money and no spare clothes, Renee Esterhaus needs to hitch a ride. And what better way to do it in the middle of Texas than offering a country hick a long and hot night of mind-blowing sex; too bad that the guy is John DeMarco, not a farmer, but a tough and edgy cop on a forced vacation.

I GOT YOU, BABE is a fast paced story laced with constant action and sparkling dialogue. It had me in giggles from the first page and groaning in embarrassment more than once. Minor characters add, in their over the top mannerisms and stereotypical behaviour, more than enough comic flavour. They might not be deep but definitely very entertaining.

I really loved this book. I loved it for its not'so-perfect heroine, for a hero that is trying so very hard to appear tough only to fail when around his chosen lady and for a sexual tension that is not just based on good looks but on trust

This is one author I will be watching out for and so should you!

Woman Fugitve Meets Hot Cop...Whew...
I was surprised I liked this book so much, because the cover is a cartoon and I was like, 'ugh, I dont know, but it sounds good', boy am I glad I read it and not judged a book by its cover! The male lead was perfect! Sexy and smart and sensitive. The ONLY two complaints I have with this book is the female lead(the fugitive) is kinda clingy and expects miracles out of John (the cop-male lead) but the plot made up for this flaw. The other complaint I had was that the chase between the crazy bounty hunter and Renee (female lead and the fugitive) ended too quickly and that the cabin scenes weren't enough. Other than that, it was great! Action, chase scenes and romance....ahhhh....was all perfect. John's family was wacky and fun and I am excited to read Ms. Graves next book about John's brother Alex. The bounty hunter was one of my favorites and added tons of humor to the story. Lots of funny scenes and humorous situations to make you laugh out loud. Especially the McDonald's scene...I will leave it to the imagination, or until you read it for yourself. Just remember...the drive-through and a fugitive and a cell phone....he he he he....

~Renee Esterhaus is on the run for a robbery she didn't commit. Now she is stuck in the middle of a small town in Texas with no money and a broken car and a crazy bounty hunter hot on her trail. With no more ideas and nothing left to do, she pulls together a scewy plan to save her hide. She will proposition the first guy she sees for one night of incredible sex in exchange for a ride out of town. The handsome man she finds sitting at the small coffee shop in 'hillbilly' Texas turns out to be a cop with a steel pair of handcuffs and no patience for criminals! This could only happen to her!

John DeMarco is on a much needed rest from his job as a detective in the piney woods where he is using the cabin his boss has given him to use to think. What he doesn't expect to encounter is a beautiful woman with a tempting proposal that he quickly learns was a way to trick him into getting her out of 'Dodge'! Besides the crazy bounty hunter that is after her and the story she tells him, he can't help but think she is innocent. Now, how to prove it? John is about to make one of the biggest mistakes of his life in order to prove to himself that Renee or Alice, as she is calling herself, is the angel she appears to be. But with what price? Harboring is a felony...but is love? Is she who she claims to be? Or some con artist who has perfected the art of lying so much that she can hide it in her eyes...

Well worth the money! A keeper! Encore Ms. Graves!

A Pleasing Surprise
I'm so surprised, but I ended up loving this book. This book was actually recommended to me by Amazon.com (you know, that thing that pops up and tells you that "if you are ordering X book, you may like Y book?) when I ordered a Jennifer Crusie book. I took a chance and ordered this novel by Jane Graves. Once I read the cover and scanned a few pages - I wasn't so sure. I'm glad I went ahead and read the book right off and didn't wait - it turned out to be a clever, fast-paced, and well written contemporary romance. You do have to suspend reality to accept the entire premise - realistically, I don't think John would have ever gotten himself involved with someone like Renee (or, at least Renee as she presented herself to him in that diner) but once you accept that fairy tale, the book just takes off. The characters are well written and the relationship between John and Renee is breathtaking - but rings true. John's family is very funny and adds a lot to the story - and that's where my problem is. I'm mad. Know why? Graves includes a sneak at her next book (not due out until Fall 2002!). In this one, she's apparently taking on John's older brother Alex, and I can't wait. I think I would have taken on brother Dave first - I can't imagine how we're going to come to love hot-headed, by-the-book-cop Alex! I hope we do get to meet all the clan one by one (sister Sandy too!!). Well done Ms. Graves!

A great read! 5 stars!
Well, Jane Carter has done it again. This book is an awesome read for ANY Aaron Carter fan. I'm just so glad it's out. I've had it on reserve in 8 different stores since January. :o) I love how Jane points out how much influence a pop star has on a girl's life, and how every little thing they do affects it. I loved reading about Aaron's ride to the top, and how he finally got there. This book shows that Aaron Carter is just a kid, and while he IS a famous teen idol, he still wants to go fishing. And I think we *Aaron's fans* should realize that. After all, he is only 12. What I loved most about this book was Aaron's heart-felt introduction. The whole egg in the hand thing was totally sweet, and it really meant a lot to me. This boy knows what he's talking about. Overall, this book is a really good one. Thank you soo much Mrs. Carter, and Aaron, keep on singin'!

Best Aaron Book You Will Ever Read
Who knew you could do so much reading in one summer? This is the only book I have bought/read over the summer, and let me tell ya, its really good, I read it in a little under 2 days. This is probably the best Aaron Carter book you will ever read since it is a true life story written by the one who knows him best! Mom, Jane Carter, who is also the author of Nick Carter's book The Heart And Soul Of Nick Carter. I recomend this to Aaron fans and also the lonely hearted ones who have doubted Aaron's succsess may need to think twice about critisizing Aaron because of his young age, hey, he wont be this young 4 long! It tells his whole life story including how he was just a 6, going on 7 year old frontman headbanging and screaming covers of Greenday along with his teenage bandmates for a local rock school band, Dead End and what he thought of it. This will surely settle some rumors and untrue stuff you might have heard in the past. And answer some questions like Why soes Aaron want to attend regular school? Why is cotton candy a no-no? Whats it like to be a twin? and many, many more! It is also filled with a color photo insert and some black and white photos at each chapter! Enjoy!

This book ROCKS.......
Hi, i am Aaron's number:1 fan and ive LOVED him since he was 7 when his first little web-page came out...I have followed him growing up and untill this book came out I thought I knew every-thing a fan could know about him, but I was wrong this book takes you threw his wonderful life and growing up and family and being on the road...There are breath-taking picture that stole my heart, and a quiz at the end...This book is the best book I have EVER read and it stole my heart, Jane Carter you ROCK.... Aaron Carter you ROCK my world and youve stole my heart....

The Sagas of Icelanders (World of the Sagas)
Published in Paperback by Penguin Books Ltd (05 April, 1901)
Authors: Leifur Ericksson, Robert Kellogg, and Jane Smiley
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $20.00
Average review score:

Fascinating Book
This is a big book, immense really, containing some 17 sagas and tales of the Icelanders. It is a selection from the even larger collection of Viking sagas called "The Complete Sagas of Icelanders." Readers interested in Medieval Literature will surely want to add this book to their collection. These are crisp, new translations that bring the stories of the Vikings to life.

Fans of the literature of the Mediterranean region a thousand years ago, works such as "Poem of the Cid" or "Song of Roland" will notice great differences here. Unlike much of the epic poetry there, the Icelandic Sagas are written in prose. Even so, many of the tales include extensive poetry, for the Vikings admired warrior-poets.

Many of these tales read like history and cover long sequences of time. They "feel" very real. For example, in "Egil's Saga" many generations pass before it is over. Egil himself doesn't make an appearance in the story until almost midway through. The sagas are often the stories of ordinary people rather than kings and knights. But be forewarned, there is much violence here. The modern reader may be bothered by the tendency toward quick violence and sudden death as characters punish with a sudden ax to the head those who have "wronged" them and are admired for such behavior. "The Sagas of Icelanders" includes extensive introductory essays and appendices to help the reader understand this fascinating period of time and these unique peoples.

Classic Norse Literature
The Sagas of the Icelanders is an excellent collection of nordic literature in an affordable and attractive book. Heavily notated, with maps detailing the settings of some of the stories, this is an excellent way to get started in learning about the lives of the Scandanavian and Icelandic people.

The stories richly describe the heroism, psychology, strength, values and day to day life and decision making of the people within these tales. This is inspiring and entertaining literature which should grace the shelf of anyone interested in the study of history, anthropology, epic literature, or norse religion.

The Sagas of the Icelanders
This is a great value. A wide collection of Icelandic sagas and short stories. Some of the short stories I've never heard of before.
The one about the Pagan ghosts messing with the Christian while he was using the outhouse was very funny. If you are at all interested in the sagas, buy this book. Many of the used copies go for under ten bucks. Can't bet it.

"Library Journal recommends purchase of the book"
From Library Journal:  Under the law, there are two types of sexual harassment--quid pro quo and hostile work environment. The authors provide legal definitions and examples of each type and counsel readers on what to do when confronted with harassment. Their advice is punctuated with personal anecdotes that help explain how to keep records of the incidents, confront the harasser, file a complaint, inform a supervisor, participate in an investigation, and seek legal help. O'Shea and LaLonde, who work in publishing and banking, respectively, pay attention to the emotional and social implications of harassment and take a hard look at the decisions victims are faced with in regard to their employment situations. A resource guide lists helpful agencies in each state, and the appendix provides sample Equal Employment Opportunity Commission documents that will familiarize readers with claim and settlement forms. This is a balanced and practical look at the subject. Recommended for public libraries.--Joan Pedzich, Harris, Beach & Wilcox, Rochester, NY

The best book on the subject from a victim's point of view
Having "been there and done that" this book validated all the emotions and choices I made as the victim of sexual harassment. It really tells it like it is. I highly recommend it to anyone who truly wants to understand the ramifications of sexual harassment.

Extremely useful resource book
It's hard to believe that sexual harassment is a reality in today's workplace. Unfortunately it is and this book is truly insightful and provides a needed safety net of information for those dealing with this difficult subject. Definitely the best I've seen on this subject.

Changer
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Eos (1998)
Author: Jane M. Lindskold
Amazon base price: $5.99
Used price: $7.95
Average review score:

Lackluster, overly long, artificial
Having enjoyed some recent reading of urban fantasy, I eagerly anticipated reading Changer. However, Lindskold doesn't have the flare of the other authors I'd read. Her story was plodding and despite an interesting take on the myths we all know (most mythical beings did exist and were often playing similar parts in various stories) she was never able to develop it into a compelling plot. Her characters talk a bit more sophisticated than the Superfriends. There's no mystery as to who the villains are nor their "plot to take over the world". And the work drags far too long (although it'd be better if it didn't drag at all). I'd recommend either "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman or "Somplace to Be Flying" by Charles De Lint. Both cover similar material and do a far better job of it.

This book blew me away!
Before, I thought urban fantasy as something only pimply Dungeon&Dragons fans could love. I couldn't have been more wrong! Out of desperate need for reading material, I took this book, and its sequal, Legends Walking, off the shelf in a bookstore, somewhat dubious as to their potential. I curled up with Changer, after a brief moment of confusion where I wasn't sure which book came first, and I expected to lose interest within ten minutes. HARDLY!!! For the next few hours I couldn't put it down as I came to love all of the characters (except for the Head and that Sasquatch lady, who grated on my last nerve). The plot developes quickly, the characters are brought to life so artistically that you feel like you really know them, and the conflict is such that you're actually in agony wondering if the book will end well. At first it was hard to get used to the way the author wrote in the present tense, but I started to enjoy the unique style of it. As soon as I finished Changer, I loaned it to my uncle, and told him he HAD to read it, and then I breathlessly picked up the sequel, which I loved just as much. You can't go wrong with these books!

OldSciFiDog
I first encountered Ms Jane Lindskold in a short story included in Worlds of Honor, by David Weber, and was impressed enough to purchase Changer. This work I would classify as fantasy as there is very little hard science in it. This is NOT a liability, even though I normally prefer hard SF. I would certainly class this tale with any that Larry Niven has done with his fantasy magic series. I classify Niven as one of the current masters - his predecessors no longer living or writing - just kidding Larry.

I normally do not give authors 5 stars, but in this case I could not find anything wrong. The characters are well established, consistent, interesting, and the tale moves seamlessly.

The story introduces us to the Athanor, an immortal species co-existing with us in contemporary time. The central figure, "The Changer" gives us an interesting character, whose value system is quite unique. Being a shapeshifter who prefers animal shapes and there relationships, causes friction with normal human values and relationships (sorry folks this is as close to one of the plot lines you will get from me).

The premise of the story is intriguing and the flow of story lines and characters kept me turning the pages (I polished off the 499 pages in a weekend - I was hooked).

Being older than dirt (according to the grand children) and apparently outliving the Science Fiction masters of my age, I am continually searching for good authors who will be replacing them. I feel extremely fortunate in finding Ms Lindskold and being able to add her to my list. I look forward to more of her work (maybe some hard SF?). This tale needs to be read as well as this author.

Same great book in fancy package...
"Winnie the Pooh" and "House on Pooh Corner" were two of my favorite books growing up. When I came across this 75th boxed anniversary edition, I just had the get it. Keep in mind, this is just the same great stories in new packages. "Winnie the Pooh" has gold trimmed pages and "House on Pooh Corner" is trimmed with silver. I recommend this to anyone who hopes to pass on the love of the original Winnie the Pooh characters to any young ones in their lives. I know I definitely will.

I love every animal in this book, especially piclet.
I think this book suitable for everyone not only for child but adult also can read it. My friend and I love this book and try to collect the whole of Pooh's series. But I think .. The house at the Pooh corner also lovely while The Tao of Pooh was very difficult to understand for child. However, I love it!!

Sumptuous -- Absolutely Sumptuous!!!
I recieved this book (and its companion, the color edition of "The House At Pooh Corner") as a gift. I cannot speak more highly of them both. Unlike the editor at Horn, who found that the colorization detracted from the illustrations, I find exactly the opposite -- that the color lends depth and detail to the drawings, which are completely untouched otherwise.

The paper is crisp, semi-glossy, and brilliant white; the cover and page edges are guilded; the typeface is sharp and crystal-clear; and the full-color endpapers are truly magnificent.

In all and every way this is a truly magnificent and sumptuous edition -- with perhaps the single exception of price. And even then, with such a marvelous work, that is to be expected!
