The Little House By the Sea
This is both a soothing and magical book about the transformation of a lonely cottage and a lonely man. Its simplicity will appeal to adults and children. Look for the animal characters in every large picture. You will find them all there. Once you read one Blathwayt book you know what to look for in his pictures. There is even a secret message in the picture of the lonely man standing on the seashore. Can you work it out?

A scholarly work that anyone can read
This is an excellent scholarly work written in plain English. Ashley brings together Scripture, the Catechism, virtue theory, and the sacraments. The book relates Catholic moral teachings to their biblical bases and to the sacraments that help us to live virtuous lives. This book is also a good companion to Pope John Paul II's encyclical, "Veritatis Splendor." Ashley's book is surprisingly easy to read despite the depth of the subject matter.

New modern "classic"!
This is a new modern "classic" childrens book! It's a beautifully illustrated tale of the generational culture clash faced by many immigrant families today. It's part cultural heritage, part mythology, part Calvin & Hobbes-all good. I bought this book for my nephew (9) and niece (6) because I knew they would identify with Lo, the main character, and the cultural dillemas he faces everyday. It's a complex subject matter told in a whimsically simple way that any child can understand and identfy with. I bought 4 more copies for my cousin's and friend's kids.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has children or knows a child, even if they are not Chinese-American. The theme is universal, the drawings are great and the characters are charming. This moden fairy tale is a must-have for your children's reading library.

Swept away twice
I have read this book twice and both instance I have felt the joy and pain the author wants to convey. There were countless times that I cried, laughed, get jealous and angry, and a feeling of sense of adventure just by merely reading it. For those who have never fallen in love, doesn't want to fall in love, has fallen in and out of love, or simply doesn't believe in love at all, this is the book for you.

A Tale to Tell
A book as breathtakeing as the experience Byron Allen experienced. I was surprised to find so many of Byron Allen's books were no longer in print. I first heard of this modern day adventurer from a BBC report. Having the opportunity to visit England recently, I went to a popular bookstore and managed to find a copy or two of his various writings. Mr. Allen combines humor and a great intuitive knowledge to his writings and his travels. For anyone who loves a good story of adventure and daring-do, Mr. Allen's books are a must read. After finding so many out of print, I'm sorry I didn't buy more than just the two while I was able to. Although by no means a how-to book, it is absolutely the way things should be experienced.

Two Outstanding Plays
In Madame Melville a man recalls the night he spent in Paris with his English teacher when he was sixteen years old. He is enthralled by her worldly wisdom and she is very lonely. The interaction between the innocent youth and the mature woman are wonderfully portrayed.
In The General From America Nelson explores the inner thoughts and external pressures that caused the most famous act of treason in US history. Benedict Arnold, Alexander Hamilton, and George Washington, as well as Arnold's wife Peggy and his sister Hannah are all excellently developed characters.
Both these plays are a joy to read and captivating.

Spreading Divine Mercy Through Living It
Saint Faustina received the message of Divine Mercy and passed it on using many methods. First, she recorded information about the message in her Diary, which became available for all to read. She also spread the message through prayer and sacrifice. Another method for spreading the message was through her conversations and other communications with others. However, Fr. George Kosicki has captured in a wonderful and effective way her most effective way of spreading the message of Divine Mercy-by her example. By living it!

Best non-trad book written
This book is the most accurate and complete work on advanced, non-traditional manufacturing processes ever written. It provides a logical framework of comparison between processes and explains everything with a clarity not often seen in technical books. I would recommend this book not only for the casual reader but for schools/universities to include in their coursework.

"Oh...Brother Juniper!"
"Brothers, I wish that God would give me and entire forest of these Junipers." Brother Juniper is one of the eleven monks, Little Brothers, living frugally in the Little Portion of Assissi with St. Francis. Given the nickname "God's Joculator" by St. Clare, Brother Juniper's only weakness was giving everything away to anyone in need. This weakness, compounded by Brother Juniper's kindness and devotion, lead him to adventures, including giving away the silver altar bells to a poor old woman to giving away his own robe to a poor man. The monks of the Little Portion learn to leave few things lying around, lest Brother Juniper give them away. So great is his kindness and devotion that the Devil conspired to have Brother Juniper executed. Again, Brother Juniper's reputation manages to save him from that sentence. The religious nature of this book should not deter anyone from enjoying the adventures of Brother Juniper, who exemplifies the precious qualities of heart-felt compassion and innocent simplicity. I thought it was a lovely book when I first read it at age 10. Reading it again as an adult, I can see how different and better the world could be with a "forest of these Junipers".
