Physics in Nuclear Medicine
Published in Hardcover by W B Saunders (18 July, 2003)
Authors: Simon R. Cherry, James Sorenson, and Michael Phelps
Amazon base price: $79.95
Average review score:

superb information content explained well
Sorenson and Phelps have compiled all of the relative and essential physics of nuclear medicine in such a way that is easy to understand. This text also contained graphs that illustrated points and made them much clearer. The pictures of hardware, although somewhat outdated, also were helpful in the learning process. This is an excellent text for any course of study related to nuclear medicine.

The bible for nuclear medicine physics...a "must have" book.
This is one of those books that should be in the
library of every medical and health physicist, radiologist, residents and students. A little dated by now (published in 1986), but it still provides excellent coverage of the basic physics of nuclear medicine which haven't really changed.
Topics covered include radiation, radiation detectors and instrumentation, radionuclide production, dosimetry, Anger cameras and imaging systems, tracer kinetics and radiation safety.

Plate Tectonics
It's a great book and I'm MAD about Geography. The more info I can get the better.

Visual Factfinder: Planet Earth
This book was recommended by "The Well Trained Mind" as a second grade earth science textbook. It is the perfect "starter" volume to begin a study of the earth. Each topic has two pages, with a lot of illustrations and explanations, to whet the appetite, and encourage follow-up reading and study. Major topics include the land, water, weather, landscapes, and conservation.

A Must Read
This is the finest work on military technology it has ever been my pleasure to read. The authors have clearly articulated the implications of integrated systems of information technology and precision navigation emerging in the arsenals of today.
Two sections of this book are particularly instructive. The chapter on the history of military navigation sets the table for the remaining topics. It also answers the question, "What is so important about navigation, anyway?" The chapter on future policy implications reveals how precision is not a panacea - but an effective tool for specific tasks.
This book should be read by everyone interested and/or involved with military operations, aquisition, logistics, and strategy.

Definitive work on the art & science of precision warfare
Mr. Hasik and Mr. Rip have written the finest unclassified work on how GPS and inertial guidance (with their supporting technologies) have revolutionized warfare. Although the underlying math is explained in excruiciating detail (for a liberal arts major), it is more than compensated for by outstanding case studies. As a professional military officer with service in the US Army and Air Force, I found this book to be required reading for those in the profession of arms or those who seek a greater undrestanding of the basis of the United States' current military dominance.

Excellent for researchers!
This book is designed in the same format that most of the BRB Publisher texts are. Opening chapters are of general interest, moving into state by state phone and online information followed up by several appendixes describing online vendor information companies, government URLs, and privacy information. The State chapter which is 80% of the book, is broken down as: State Agencies County Courts Federal Courts Local Courts and County Record Retrievers This section is very resourceful, giving in detail what is permitted in that location and who can get the information for you. It appears that several of the BRB publications have been combined, and added to, to create this excellent source.

The Clearest Exposition Available
Reisman and Baker bring much needed clarity in an area which is controversial and the law, it seems, is a moving target. Superb exposition. Reasonable "take aways" for a national security practitioner. Have always enjoyed Reisman's clarity of thought in his analysis of Law of the Sea issues - - he does it again in the area of covert operations.

I hope a second edition is written which analyzes the law of covert operations in the context of U.S. Government policies and practices. An analysis of how information operations fits into this overall scheme would also be interesting.

Well done!

Best analysis of covert action policy-making available.
This book is the best analysis of covert action policy-making I have read. Surprisingly, it is written by two legal scholars, and not by political scientists. It's primary purpose is to analyze the international legal status of covert actions. However, it contains a detailed and thoughtful analysis of the goals and objectives of covert action. In addition, it has a good list of covert actions carried out by a number of countries.

The West is the Best
For any Rifter, this is the must have of the collection. With details of the Pecos Riders and other such empires, the information alone is worth it. But there is also more character classes, weapons and gear than one can shake a stick at. The best part of the sourcebook it that it'll help recall some of the best (and worst) westerns you've seen and BAM instant adventures.

Very good for Old West fans or people who like to use TW's
This book is great. I suggest the preacher, which is good for interesting play. For psychic players, there is a psi-slinger and it is great. The best list for the best TW weapons I have ever seen.

The most comprehensive public record guide I've found
I've worked with public records for some time and have bought many books . . . some good and some bad. This is the best I've come across. The information is current and the format is easy to use.

The depth of information provided, particularly in the county court and state agency sections, is very comprehensive. This book provides more locations and more details than anything else I've seen and I have them all.

If you work with public records, forget the other guides and put your money here . . . you won't be disappointed

Profiles more than 20,000 record keeping agencies
Now in a fully updated and expanded second edition, The Sourcebook To Public Record Information profiles more than 20,000 record keeping agencies including county courts, real estate recording offices, state agencies, and federal courts. Here detailed are addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers, web addresses, access procedures and restrictions, fees, turnaround times, and more. The Sourcebook To Public Record Information is an essential, core reference for librarians, background investigators, journalists, attorneys, genealogists, law enforcement officials, private investigators, policy makers, pre-employment screeners, and academic researchers.

An Excellent Introduction
The book is up-to-date and effectively presents the basic concepts. Deals with current power and sphericity concerns. Example SPSS-keyed analyses and APA-format results sections are especially valuable for research training. Uses post-hoc Tukey HSD test. Separate nonparametric chapters. The authors know their material (not always the case with statistics texts) and they provide a solid (higher-level) introduction. Good selection of topics and fairly thorough. Perhaps a bit wordy at times. One of the best available introductions. From a long-time teacher of statistics with no connection to authors.

The Best Introductory Text for Today's Students
Jaccard and Becker's preface says it all:

"Introductory statistics, unlike content areas in the behavioral sciences, does not become dated quickly. Many of the concepts taught ten years ago are still relevant today. So why another text?

....Most introductory statistics texts fail to integrate sufficiently the subject matter of statistics with what students will encounter in the behavioral science journals. A statistics course should not only teach students basic skills for analyzing data but also make them intelligent consumers of scientific information.

....Because of the way chapters and exercises are organized in most texts, students are essentially told which statistical procedure to use on a given set of data. This state of affairs is simply unrealistic. It is just as important to teach students when to use a particular statistic and why it should be used as it is to teach them how to compute and interpret the statistic.

....A common complaint among students is that statistics is irrelevant and boring. This view is fostered, in part, by the tendency of statistic texts to use examples and exercises that are irrelevant and boring. Yet, it is possible to provide interesting applications of statistics (which this text does successfully).

....In the present book, a unifying structure is provided [(1)in contrast with other texts and (2) in order to provide students with conceptual relationships among the various stastical analyses].

....The book emphasizes a conceptual understanding of statistics [rather than the chosen outdated computational emphasis of the vast majority].

....Another unique characteristic of this text is a chapter on research methods.

....Appendixes to several chapters explain in more detail certain advanced concepts referred to in the body of the text [for advanced students].

....[The material covered is systematically thorough, allowing the professor to choose a customized curriculum and providing the student with a tremendous resource for further study and reference long after the course]." (pp. xiii-xvi)

The book triumphs as the most relevant introductory text on the market today.

A look at the multi-faceted character of Thomas Jefferson
"Thomas Jefferson: A Picture Book Biography" does an excellent job of providing a simplified yet well-rounded portrait of one of the more complex figures in American history. Instead of detailing Jefferson's long list of accomplishments, author James Cross Giblin takes a more anecdotal approach which treats his childhood and his private life on an equal footing with the things he wrote and offices he held in public life. This is a book that looks at Jefferson's first term as President in terms of the Louisiana Purchase and the mockingbird that kept him company in his study. Sally Hemmings is mentioned several times as an important house slave, but without bringing up the evidence she was the half-sister of Jefferson's wife or that she bore Jefferson several children after his wife died. However, Jefferson's affection for Maria Cosway is covered. The end result is an understand more of the man than of the political figure; for example, young readers will have no appreciation for how the Jeffersonian Republicans differed from the Federalists. The back of this book includes a list of important dates in his life, several choice examples of excerpts from letters written by Jefferson, and a two-page description of what a Visit to Monticello would have been like when Jefferson lived there. Michael Dooling's illustrations consist of fully textured oil paintings over which the text is printed. Ultimately, the illustrations in this Picture Book Biography take a back seat to the way the text presents the multi-faceted character of the man who might have been the third President, but who wanted on his tombstone inscribed: "Author of the Declaration of American Independence, of the Statue of Virginia for Religious Freedom, and Father of the University of Virginia. When young students read over this biography, they will understand why those were the most important things in Jefferson's life.

An excellent book for elementary school children
My second-grader decided to research Thomas Jefferson for a school report. I ordered this book and was quite pleased. It has lots of good information without being wordy. In the back of the book is a two-page spread of quotes from Jefferson, as well as a timeline of his life. The illustrations are beautiful! Highly recommended.
