A compelling, informative primary source
Let Us Meet In Heaven is a compendium of letters written by James Michael Barr of the 5th South Carolina Cavalry, during the American Civil War. Editorial notes explaining place names and the like help make the letters instantly and immediately understandable to any reader; extensive familiarity with the battles of the Civil War is not needed to read and understand Barr's testimony. Let Us Meet in Heaven also includes an index makes for quick and easy reference. Let Us Meet In Heaven is a compelling, informative primary source and an invaluable contribution to Civil War studies reading lists and historical reference collections.
The Logical Basis of Metaphysics (The William James Lectures, 1976)

A landmark in analytical philosophy.
Hilary Putnam describes this as "one of the true high-water marks of twentieth century philosophy", John McDowell said "this is an extraordinarily important book", and, when I was a graduate student, a philosopher described it to a class of graduate students as being perhaps the most profound work on truth-conditional theory of meaning in the twentieth century; since Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus also deals with truth-conditional theories of meaning (so I would argue, at least), that is quite a claim.
If these names - Wittgenstein, McDowell and Putnam - mean anything to you, Dummett's name should be just as familiar, and this book should need no further recommendation. If you have not heard of these people, you are probably not acquainted with analytical philosophy, one of the most influential forms of philosophy in the twentieth century. Analytical philosophers tend to approach philosophical problems by means of philosophy of language: typically, they ask about meaning. In this book, Dummett attempts to explain what a theory of meaning is, why a theory of meaning has metaphysical implications, and how theories of meaning can be evaluated. His claim is that metaphysical problems are, fundamentally, problems about what logic to adopt, and that a theory of meaning can be used to justify a logic. This work raises issues that are deep, but also highly technical, and certainly not for a novice. Don't even try to read this book unless you've spent some time studying analytical philosophy, and have decided that it interests you. But if you are seriously interested in analytical philosophy, this is a book that you really should try to read.
If you want to begin reading Dummett, this is not the best place. Its the definitive statement of his position, aimed primarily at other experts in the field. His ideas can be found in a less comprehensive but slightly more digestible form in two anthologies of his, Truth and Other Enigmas and The Seas of Language. The latter is probably slightly easier for beginners.

A great book to add to your collection
I haven't bought a book in a long time. But considering that I know one of the writers who wrote an essay in this book I wanted to purchase the book for personal enrichment. My initial thought was...who is Lord Charlemont. You can be sure you'll find out a lot of info about his life, and travels down to the kind of vases he collected. The book has some full color plates and the rest are in black and white. Not that that matters to me,I thought it was an excellent addition. Some books leave you with no visual help, making it hard to imagine what the writer is talking about. Lord Charlemont and his Circle is a great addition to a historian or art historians collection. I believe that this book, being very educational is only for serious historians considering that the vocabulary is very advanced. But then again, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book to you.

A visual feast of texture & color that honors his art.
The work of James Watkins is powerful and sensitive. This book beautifully illustrates the wonderful scale, color and texture of his pottery. Easy to read and provides understanding to his insights that have helped shaped his creative artmaking. It provides inspiration to artist of all media to respond to the tangible and intagible world around them. This book is a wonderful addition to any art lover's library.

Excellent must have for MJF fans
I was given this book as a present - it had been ordered through Amazon in the States and it took about just over a week to be shipped over to the UK, and it was a wonderful surprise. The book tells true Fox fans the story of how his first real break came in television, - through to international fame with hit movies such as BTTF, Teen Wolf, Secret Of My Success. There are excellent pictures. And yes it does tell of how he is coming to terms with his Parkinson's disease and his life right now. I definately recommend this book, it is a very interesting read (and the pictures are rather yummy too).

Michael Manley a Treat
"A subtle environmental sub-text and social observation - that the modern world's trance of scientific engagement rests on natural world reality - is couched in a story that kept this household of mostly, technophobic readers page-clicking. In fact, the only thing that interrupted the flow of the tale was the constant "ooh, stop, look at that!" whenever another of the unique, state-of-the-art graphics appeared on screen.
The text is lyrical and mnemonic, as all good childrens' verse should be. But don't just buy it for the kids: it's a treat for all ages."

The most comprehensive clinically oriented nuc med text.
There are several comprehensive nuclear medicine textbooks and I have used them all from time to time. This is without a doubt the most clinically relevant, and contains excellent radiopharmacy and basic science information as well.
