This is a very useful book.
Though, this book is less known to the people, I found many useful hints from the high level thought to the low level careness.

Poignant and Profound
I loved this book. I was captivated from the first page and found myself caring deeply for the noble characters as well as completely absorbed by the fascinating story line. I couldn't wait to see how it ended!
This book is fiction however it relates to many very important issues that are currently occuring on this planet. It is a rare book indeed that leaves me with a lump in my throat and wondering how I can make a difference in the world. This was one such book. I highly recommend Occam's Razor.

A Definite Hit!
OK--let me admit right away that I'm not a "kid," I'm in my late 30s.

While this book wasn't published for my demographic group, I still LOVED it! The storyline is simple but interesting, and everyone will pick up new facts about the octopus. I've been studying octopuses (the correct pluralization) for several years now, and even I learned new things! And the illustrations are gorgeous, truly capturing the beauty of the deep seas and the wonderful patterns and tones of the octopus. The only drawback to this book is that it's so small!

If you get a chance, buy the book in the "special edition" that comes with its own stuffed octopus!

This is a definite hit for kids of any age and a great way to introduce a wonderfully smart and interesting animal to people who otherwise would completely ignored it.

One of the best literary magazines around
Open City consistently publishes great stories, poems, essays, and artwork. I look forward to each issue, because each one is so different, and because this magazine continues to be vital and relevant, esp. because many literary magazines are so staid and dull....

Paratrooper: The Life of Gen. James M. Gavin
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (1994)
Authors: T. Michael Booth and Duncan Spencer
Amazon base price: $39.50
Used price: $83.23
Average review score:

The Best Biography of the Paratrooper Legend
This is the finest biography of the life of Jumpin' Jim Gavin, a legendary World War II leader. The other biography is written by Bradley Biggs and lacks the thorough research of Booth & Spencer's work. Read Biggs if you need a summary (and somewhat biased rendition) of Gavin's heroic life of service to the nation. Read this book if you want the details of Gavin's life in an impartial account - from his days as an orphan, then adopted growing up in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania to his WWII exploits, service as Ambassador to France under President Kennedy and his time as CEO of Arthur D. Little & Company. This biography presents the uncut version of the life of James M. Gavin.

Many former and current paratroopers still pay homage to the memory of this great man. Gavin is buried in the cemetery at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. Each year on 6 June, his wife Jean, other family members, and members of the 82nd Airborne Division Association, both officers and enlisted, gather for a D-Day memorial to honor one of the greatest leaders of the war. Gavin led the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment on airborne drops into Sicily and Salerno, and later he led the entire 82nd Airborne Division on the Normandy and Market Garden jumps. It is a fitting tribute that the impact of his legacy still lives on in the hearts of the men and women who knew him and went to war with him. If you want to understand why his memory still inspires many of us in uniform, read this book. (You can also get more insight into the man by reading the several books that Gavin wrote himself, like Crisis Now, Airborne Warfare, and On To Berlin.)

Highly recommended for all paratroopers and anyone who interacts with military professionals.

He's done it again! More, more!!
...

It's true, a picture is worth a thousand words... but in the case of Brother Mickey's work, the words make the pictures even more alive. He takes the time to visit actual workplacs to capture details before beginning each "portrait." The attention to (and inclusion of)detail is magnificent and adds authenticity to an already marvelous work.

This book -- and its predecessor -- is a must for the bookshelves of religious eduators in all settings, and makes a great gift!

Can't wait for next year!

A Priest in the Home

OUTSTANDING!!!!
If you are a man, this is a must read! If you are a Christian man, then even more so! It contains insights into what it means to be a royal priest as described in 1 Peter 2:8. Drawing comparisons to the Old Testament priesthood, this book explains how to turn your "pesthood" into a priesthood. I drew a lot of wisdom and strength out of it!

James M. Doyle is truly a priest in his home. Take it from me, his oldest of five children, no one has walked the walk anymore steadfastly than my dad. This book gives practical insight into ancient Biblical principles that have been applied to and lived out in his life. I can testify first-hand.

This is a book you need to add to your personal library!

A welcome contribution to the current national dialogue
Protecting The American Homeland: A Preliminary Analysis is a methodical and highly serious account, collaboratively written by a team of Brooking scholars (Michael E. O'Hanlon; Peter R. Orszag; Ivo H. Daalder; I. M. Destler; David L. Gunter; Robert E. Litan; James B. Steinberg), laying out a four-tiered plan to support the efforts of the Bush administration and Congress to ensure America's security from terrorists... Offering suggestions such as increasing federal spending on homeland security to ... and then upgrading the authority of the director of the Office of Homeland Security rather than create a new superagency, Protecting The American Homeland is a well-thought out and welcome contribution to the current national dialogue as it offers an important perspective for our post-911 national security needs.

I've become a Pufendorfian
Pufendorf is one of the lesser known political theorists, but he is one of the most lucid that I have ever encountered. It is a wonder to me that he is not read in more college classrooms, as his style is accessible and lively and his commentary covers a tremendous range of topics. After reading, I've definitely become a Pufendorfist.
