Best book on mixed-signal circuit design
This is the best book I have found so far on CMOS mixed-signal circuit design. It is not only an excellent textbook for senior or graduate student to learn mixed-signal circuit design but also a "must have" reference book for circuit designers doing analog/mixed-signal design. The book presents not only the therectical background for data converter using SPICE modeling approach, but also the practical considerations for implementing data converters at the circuit level. The materials it covers about submicron CMOS circuit design has provided reader with necessary background and techniques (which are very practical) for transistor level design like no other analog textbook you can find.

An excellent text for learning and for reference!
The book begins by covering basic data converter theory and includes methods for SPICE modeling of data converters. An important aspect to this coverage is that the metrics for evaluating data converters are explained clearly (this makes the book a great reference when wading through some of the spec sheets or journal articles covering data converters).

After the fundamentals of data converters are established, the text covers noise-shaping converters (including a review of some of the digital filtering concepts required to understand/implement these devices). This is one of the hottest topics in solid-state circuit design today, with journal articles appearing monthly on new topologies and uses for sigma-delta data converters. Very few textbooks are available that cover this topic, and it is great to have a book that teaches the noise-shaping concepts in such a straightforward manner.

There are a few chapters that cover implementation of data converters, including a very useful chapter on submicron CMOS circuit design. Rather than simply focus on the academic and 'ideal' implementations of circuitry, this text takes a practical approach and recognizes that the real world is not perfect. This approach is seen throughout the text and gives a deeper appreciation for the specifications used to characterize converter performance, as well as the limitations with various circuit topologies.

In addition to data converters, there is a chapter on integrator-based CMOS filters (this is very applicable in today's mixed-signal CMOS designs), including filters that use the noise-shaping concepts discussed earlier.

Very few technical textbooks are as well thought as this one. From start to finish, the text is filled with practical examples that aid in the learning process. There are SPICE examples throughout the book, and the netlists will all run using WinSPICE (all netlists and WinSPICE are available for download ...). It is great to be able to play with these netlists and get a feel for how the circuits operate.

The final chapter in the book takes the concepts taught and shows real implementations of several circuits (on a breadboard and with hand-soldered circuits), including a noise-shaping modulator and a discrete analog integrator. The author proves that the concepts work with these implementations and discusses proper laboratory measurement and characterization techniques.

This book is a great teaching tool as a classroom text or as a self-study reference. The problems at the end of each chapter and the prototypes at the end of the book allow the reader to verify understanding, whether on paper or in the laboratory.

A great resource.
It may not be of much interest to casual readers, but to longtime fans, I couldn't recommend this book enough. It doesn't just sit on my shelf, I've reread it dozens of times because the intimate details it contains on this often misunderstood industry are priceless. Of particular interest to me were the sections on the 70s, the beginning of fandom, the evolution of characters, and the pop culture phenomenon as we know it taking shape. It's simply amazing, as though Jones and Jacobs are sitting right there with you recounting these stories. Even as someone who's loved every aspect of comics since before I could read, I was still surprised by all the drama that was going on behind the scenes during these years of entertainment I have fond rememberances of. If there's a flaw, it's that the authors sound a little bitter at times, but that's because they were there in the thick of it during much of the time that this all occured.

Essential history of comic books and their creators.
To Jacobs and Jones, the real "comic book heroes" are the artists, writers and editors who created the grand adventures and heroes. While they acknowledge that comics have historically led to tragedy for their creative people, they show how real-world heroes like Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Steve Gerber, Carmine Infantino and many others endured tragedy to create memorable heroes and stories. It is an essential work for anyone interested in popular culture, as entertaining to read as it is informative. Note: Gerald Jones is currently revising and updating this book for a release sometime in the next two years - but this book is so satisfying you shouldn't wait.

Excellent - Something for the general and the serious reader
Fr Greeley is always insightful, funny and mind opening. He is also, clearly, a good judge of coauthors.

Changed My Life
I read this book in it's original form (The Bible And Us) and then purchased and read - several times - this version. My original reason for reading this was a fascination with the concept of a priest and a rabbi reading scripture together. The reading is much more than the concept. Greeley's section on the Song of Songs will create a new wonder for your relationship with God. Neusner's insight into the Torah and the Holocaust let's you know what wonders and answers are available from the word of God. Normally one would say that a good review is in its recommendation to others. I have purchased this book again and again as gifts for many.

An Excellent Resource
This is the book that I turn to when I want to learn something new. It is not the best "Learn to Juggle" book, but if you can already juggle, this book will push you to the next level.

This book just expects you to want to learn how to juggle 5 pins, or learn complicated passing routines.

The coverage complete, but brief. There isn't a lot of hand holding, but covers a lot of ground.

Comprehensive, great book on juggling
I have had this book for the last 10 years, and it is well-worn. It has been very useful in helping me refine my club juggling, devil stick, and ball juggling skills. The diagrams are well drawn, and Finnigan also provides hints for when things go wrong.

He goes into details other books skip over (such as color-changing rings) and cigar box juggling.

My only complaint is that this book isn't indexed, so you have to rely on the Table of Contents to search for stuff.

All in all, I highly recommend this book.

Jacob's Magic Box - Creatures of Nature
This is a wonderful book that teaches young children about small animals and insects outdoors. My 2 year-old daughter loves this book - especially the bugs. The pictures are extremely cute and loveable and the story totally keeps her interest. This book is very popular at our house and we read it a lot every week as well as the rest of the series. Jacob is a darling little boy and his grandma always has something interesting to show him in the Magic Box. This book is great for teaching pre-schoolers.

Creatures of Nature
This is a delightful little book. My granddaughter loves the pictures and likes to follow along when she is read to. The book is interactive making reading fun. The words are simple enough yet interesting for young minds. The idea of all the creatures marching back to the magic box is helpful in teaching young ones to put things away after playing. The author and the artist have both done a wonderful job.

The Dangers of Socialized Medicine
Published in Paperback by Future of Freedom Fndtn (1994)
Authors: Jacob G. Hornberger and Richard M. Ebeling

Average review score:

Because I don't want to be forced to insure a crack addict
While the push for the US to adopt a nationalized health care system by left-wing politicians has somewhat quieted in recent years, we are nevertheless headed in that direction. We need only sample growing public dissatisfaction at the inefficiency of HMOs and managed health care, which arbitrarily decide who receives treatment and who does not, to see this. This book, published shortly after Clinton's Soviet-style health care plan was rejected, contains several essays critical of socialized medicine.

The idea that universal health insurance would be less costly than our existing system is absurd. To insure 280 million people -- hundreds of thousands of which are addicted to crack, PCP and black tar heroin; hundreds of thousands of which are Mexican immigrants carrying new strains of tuberculosis -- taxes would have to be raised to astronomical levels. Moreover, with the government providing health care for anyone and his uncle, there would be no reason not to go to the doctor. If you've got a cold, why stay in bed and drink orange juice when you can walk into a hospital and receive professional medical care? In effect, the government would be taking away the incentive to stay healthy.

Great Britain's universal health care system, the NHS, which they adopted in 1948, turned out to be an enormous bureaucracy. The demand for health care instantly skyrocketed, as did the yearly cost of maintaining the NHS, forcing the British government to make massive spending cuts for the NHS. By the mid-seventies, medical instruments were a scarcity in British hospitals, and nearly three-quarters of a million people were on waiting lists. Also, Canada's single-payer universal health care system, trumpeted by liberals as a sensible alternative to our existing system, has kept patients waiting for several months to receive an MRI or heart bypass surgery.

Forcing me to pay high taxes to insure hundreds of thousands of drug addicts and disease-ridden third-worlders isn't "compassion" -- it's stupidity. It's not my responsibility to bring drug addicts out of their stupor -- it's theirs. If they're incapable of doing so, too bad -- I wasn't the one who jammed that crack pipe between their lips. In short, it isn't my responsibility to pay for a total stranger's irresponsibility.

The solution to the public's growing dissatisfaction with America's health care system is capitalism. That way, doctors and hosptials would be free to charge what they thought their services were worth; but they would also face risking losses if they charged more than they thought consumers were willing to pay. A market-driven health care system is what America needs.

The case for a complete free market in medicine
Published by the Future of Freedom Foundation, this slim collection of essays on government intervention in medicine makes an excellent case for a complete free market in health care. Published in 1994, many of the chapters specifically address the horrendous Clinton Health Care Plan, which fortunately never even made it to a floor vote in Congress.

Wonderful Hero
Holly Jacobs does it again. With her trademark humor and warm emotions, she provides a wonderful romance. The hero is alpha-ish on the outside with a warm beta-center, totally yummy! In fact, I think Donovon is my favorite Jacob's hero to date.

If you're looking for a sweet romance to escape with, look no further. Grab Holly's latest book, sit back, and enjoy!

Another winner for Holly Jacobs with this story.

Elias Donovan, dubbed The Iceman, for his lack of emotion, is quite the lawyer, having spent many years sharpening his image as a hard man strong attorney. His goal is to become a partner at the law firm where he has worked since finishing law school. He has no desire except to make it to the top in his firm and become well known for his skill in the courtroom. The only problem is... he works for a firm where family is the most important priority. When he is told he needs to find "balance" in his life... something other then work, like a wife, to keep him grounded before he will be considered for a partnership, he is in a dilemma. He has no desire to marry, so how can he prove he deserves the promotion?

Sarah Jane Madison is trying to make her new interior design business a success. Unfortunately money is very tight, even more so since one of her clients stiffed her on the bill. Sarah turns to Donovan, her neighbor, in hopes he can assist her in a lawsuit against her client. The only problem is, she has no money to pay the retainer fees. Donovan's prayers are answered! He decides to ask Sarah to pose as his fiancée for an anniversary party for one of the senior partners, Leland Wagner at the law firm, in exchange for his handling her lawsuit against her client. Sarah is hesitant at first, but then decides it can't hurt much to help him.

It is supposed to be a limited engagement, beginning in time for the party, and ending as soon as it is over. Before Sarah knows it though, she is caught in the middle of wedding plans, for a wedding she won't be having! Leland's wife and daughters are so excited that someone finally melted The Iceman's heart, they can't wait to see the wedding take place. Sarah plays along, still knowing the engagement is a ruse, but feels guilty about lying to such wonderful people.

Suddenly, Donovan decides he wants more then an engagement, he want a marriage of convenience, to cement his position with the firm. He asks Sarah to marry him, insisting it is only temporary and he will spell everything out in a prenuptial agreement, so no one loses out on the deal. She grudgingly agrees, thinking she can keep up the charade. However, she finds herself drawn more and more to Donovan, until she realizes she loves him, The Iceman, a man known for his lack of emotion! Now comes the greatest dilemma of all, how to show Donovan a wedding farce may not be such a good idea after all. Will she play along, knowing her heart will be broken? Or will she show Donovan there is more to life then his career?

Ms. Jacobs has done it again! She has penned a delightful tale, full of her trademark humor and pure, sweet emotion. She has taken what could be a tired storyline - a marriage of convenience - and worked her own brand of magic on it, making it different and new. Of course, as said before, humor abounds, and there are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments to be found.

The characters are delightful, With Sarah and Donovan shining in the spotlight. From Amelia and Mac, totally in denial of their own love story going on, to Leland Wagner and his ebullient family, everyone is a joy. And also happy to note, Pearly Gates makes another appearance, known in other books for her rather long-winded but always funny stories, always with a moral.

This reviewer never tires of reading one of Ms. Jacobs works, and is always pleasantly surprised with the road the tale takes. The talent evident is brimming over. It can't be said enough, Ms. Jacobs is making her mark in the category romance genre. Run out and buy a copy today, it is well worth it!

Please reprint this excellent book
This is the best introduction to Dutch business culture available. It is uncluttered, and makes connections between different aspects of Dutch behaviour to develop a broad picture suitable for business people from any background.

A bridge connecting two cultures
As a Dutch-American cross-cultural trainer I have read the gamut of literature dealing with this subject. Mr. Vossestein's 'Dealing with the Dutch' is the most concise, clearly written book on the subject. The book's non-judgemental approach gives future immigrants to the Netherlands a thorough understanding of and a simple guide line to life in this fascinating land by the sea.

Loved it, makes a great gift!
What a great gift, I recieved Deep Sleep 101 from my daughter and I loved it. Great concept of a book and a cd. Worked like a charm, the music was great and relaxing while the book helped me understand how to relax and why I was having difficulty sleeping. Would recommend this to anyone!

I'm Cured
Somebody finally got it right! I'm cured. Forget sleeping pills, herbs and other gimmicks. This is the real deal, straight from a fifteen year expert at Harvard. Gets right to the point. Very enlightening. And it works. We play the CD every night and it even chills out the teenagers. The music surprised us, it's even better than the book.

Informative
Perfect! Just what I was looking for. Lots of information in a small easy to read pamphlet. Good starting point for more in depth research.

Informative, thorough, understandable
Needing to do some research on the subject of DHA, I selected this book without any expectations. However, I was very pleased by the author's apparent knowledge of the subject matter, and her ability to explain fairly complicated concepts without being tedious or condescending. DHA as a nutritional supplement isn't all that well-known as yet, but I feel sure it will become a household word in the near future. As that time approaches, and people want to learn more on the subject, this author should prove to be an excellent resource. I have read this book pretty carefully and thoroughly, and have learned a lot from it. I will be buying more of her books on other subjects.
