Fire in the Pot!
This is an absolutely fabulous cookbook, even for those with a little milder palate! I would recommend the Cajun gumbo and the Black Bean and Kidney Bean soup for any meal!

EXCELLENT COOKBOOK
This book rocks! I've made over half the recipes in this book with only 1 or 2 disappointments. Everything else has been "very good" to "excellent". Recipes are relatively quick and easy to make (most take < 1 hour), flavorful, healthy, and function well as a one dish meal. Most recipes can also be toned down for those timid of fire without compromising the integrity of the dish. You really can't go wrong with this one, especially if you like a little spice.

It Hurts So Good!
I own several so called spicy cookbooks and this one lives up to it's name and is by far my favorite one. It's chok'ful of delicious one page recipes from around the globe. Great muligitawny and the "Evil Jungle Peanut Chicken" is awesome. For the most part the recipes are easy to prepare and have readily availble ingredients as well as a pretty accurate hotness scale. My wife & I have probably made 15-20 of the recipes already and thats not counting the ones we repeated. You will need a large pan because the recipes make copious amounts of food. I recommend a big wok and a big, big glass of beer to chase the fire down. Oh yeah, you'll also need a towel to wipe the spice induced sweat off your brow. ENJOY!

Love it
My girls love this book. They got so excited about the facts the learned in this book. I even learned so new things. Fun for the entire family. We love it

A charming and fascinating book!
I LOVED this book. It's not just for kids -- though I'm sure they'll enjoy it, as much as I did. The author's choice of subject matter is excellent, and she explores each subject at just the right depth. Her breezy and humorous writing style is a joy to read.

And it's educational, too! Although I have an advanced science degree, and have been a lifelong reader in various sciences, I found myself learning something new in each essay.

I strongly recommend "How Come? Planet Earth" to curious minds of any age.

What a GREAT book!
...I bought How Come? Planet Earth for my Kids and I read an article every morning with my cereal. I love the kooky cartoons and the articles make me look like a genius to my kids! It will always come in handy to know that flys taste with their feet and humming birds have the most powerful muscles in the animal kingdom...MY ENTIRE FAMILY LOVES THIS BOOK!

Start Here Now
This is a great book to get your mind thinking about how much your image really does matter. It is clear and concise and provides a foundation for you to do further exploration in any area you find interesting. I praticularly enjoyed the sections on the "closet cleanse" and "your propellers, maintainers, and drainers". It has more than the usual wardrobe advice, it includes life living concepts that you can embrace now.

Of particular interest are the recommended books for more inspiration discovery and ideas. I have read a few of them that provide more in depth information on the topics that are of special interest to me.

As much as we don't want to admit it -- Image DOES Matter
Lauren Solomon takes the reader through a step-by-step process of examining and managing image for work, pleasure, and home.
This simple and very easy read/workbook can help many out there. As someone that already has a pretty good sense of my own style/image, this book still gave food for throught and many suggestions that I will implement.

What a great management tool to share with your team (sales and others), thoughtful gift for a newcomer to business or someone that wants to move up, or simply for your own self development. Even if you get only one new idea to take action on, it's still worth the $$$.

advices that really work on a daily basis
Its not always easy to let somebody "repolish" your image.
Either because of our own beliefs or sacred egos.
Lauren Salomon is a truly listener that learn to know your personnality and know what fit you best.
Her international experience will also provide you with accurate advices when it come to traveling or doing business abroad; Something that many lacks when it come to dealing with international business or just culture behaviors.
(who doesn't have a story to tell their embarassement in a situation where they didn't know what to do?)
Lauren Salomon is here to help not to serve her own image.
If you have to listen to one image consultant I would recommend you to read her book for cover to cover.

VERY CARING WAY TO ONE's AND ANOTHER's HEART AND SOUL
As well as the view of the cards as the accompanying words invite us in a very sensitive, loving, tender and caring way to enter into a more intimate relationship with ourselves and with our companion. Delightful.

An excellent deck for it's purpose.
The cards of this deck are very beutiful and attractive with their bright colours and modern pictures (with nature and eastern motifs).

The deck comes with a book that has a short section on how to use the deck (spreading, interpreting, etc), and two pages of clear and readable explanation of each card.

I've read with this deck for myself, and found it very useful and accurate.

The cards are somewhat larger than regular, which is a huge plus when two people look at the cards side by side and to show the art, but makes the card harder to shuffle.

This deck is similar in structure to the Osho Transformation cards - it's a set of named cards without the structure of regular tarot decks (no majors/minors/suits).

These amazing cards increase honesty, communication and love
My wife and I were going through a very difficult time in our relationship when she came upon the Joy Of Relationship Cards at a local curio shop. Perhaps she felt attracted to them because our relationship was so much in need of some joy. She picked them up and read enough to surmise that she was to draw a couple cards and then read their possible meanings on the pages of the enclosed book. The cards she drew were HEALING and TRANSFORMATION and so she turned to HEALING and read the pages and then read the pages on TRANSFORMATION and those two cards rang as true for her then as each of the cards that we have picked since she purchased the deck.

Each topic discussed in the book is always addressed from at least two perspectives. If you draw the card BOUNDARIES you will be asked to consider your own boundaries. Are they too rigid or are they too loose. If you draw the card TOUCH you will be asked to consider the role it plays in your life.

The book and cards have added to the healing and transformation that has gone on in our marriage and I highly recommend you check them out if you are looking for a tool that will guide you to clearer communication and a more pure love than you may already have.

Around the world in 25 stories
"Other Voices, Other Vistas," edited by Barbara H. Solomon, is a wonderful anthology of stories. The selections in the book are grouped by geographic region into 5 sections, each containing 5 stories. The regions represented are Africa, China, India, Japan, and Latin America. In her introduction, Solomon notes that all of the stories are written by major authors who had published fiction after World War II.

The group of 25 authors is full of noteworthy names: Chinua Achebe, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, Jorge Luis Borges, and more. The themes in the anthology include love, marriage, parenthood, oppressive governments, art, religion, economic struggle, ideological conflict, and cultural dislocation. The modes range from fantasy to stark reality--there is violence and serenity, beauty and grotesqueness, sorrow and humor.

I especially loved the Chinese stories, which give a vivid portrayal of life under the Communist regime--it's like a real life dystopia. Other strong selections include Yukio Mishima's "Acts of Worship," about a professor's pilgrimage; Isabel Allende's "Clarisa," a colorful character study; and R.K. Narayan's "A Horse and Two Goats," a story of cross-cultural miscommunication. Overall, I would recommend this book both as a classroom text and for individual reading. Recommended companion text: "Caribbean New Wave," a short story anthology edited by Stewart Brown.

Wonderful collection for all, who like reading short stories
This is a pocket-size book, that contains short stories from the best international authors. Each story is a good one. Each one is different from the next. So, this book is good not only for college classes, but anyone who enjoys reading short stories from Asian, Latin, and African authors.

Valuable for students & Delightful to read for anyone...
This collection is valuable to the teachers in humanities classes, because it opens up their students' minds (hopefully) to the new and often previously completely unknown world of different cultures. Many best authors are chosen from each culture. All stories, without exception will bring something new to you as a reader, and the reading itself will be nothing but a sheer delight!!!! All stories will also make you think about your own culture and its values. Some stories will make you laugh, yet others will make you cry...

Best book on the Market regarding Macular Degeneration.
Here's a book with real substance written by a doctor who has M.D.There are too many books on the marketthat appear to be written by doctors who are looking over someones shoulderin an attempt to write authoritively onthe subject. I was very impressed by the dept of knowledge of this doctor who writes with true in depth investigative knowledge, he truly understands because he has the problem.A lot of good advice regarding diet which is of major importance, and life style, (Smoking), etc.Careful reading will show at least how to stop the progression and he also tells what kind of research is being done to find , if not a cure, at leastpossible major help.I'll buy anything this guy writes !

Best book yet!
This book on macular degeneration is by far the best one published to date. There are numerous other publications available by other doctors that don't come close to the quality and depth of information contained in this book. I even gave a copy to my eye doctor who was not aware of it's availability.I must add that this doctor really speaks from personal experience with Macular Degeneration and it shows in the quality and quantity of great information.I thank God for this mans bookand highly recommend it to anyone who has MD or a friend or relative with the problem.Sincere thanks,Lee CarlsonSpring Hill, Fl

Best resource on Macular Degeneration
I have a parent with macular degeneration and this book gave my father and our family new hope and inspiration. Particularly compelling was the fact that the author himself suffers from this affliction. The information provided was extremely useful and written in an informal, personal and non-technical manner. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has or knows someone with macular degeneration.

A FAN LETTER
Dear Andrew Solomon, This is a fan letter: PLEASE keep writing such beautiful fiction. PLEASE write another novel as soon as possible. I have never come across Solomon's prose in "The New Yorker" and have not read his two non-fiction books, one about artists in the Soviet Union and one about Depression. A STONE BOAT is his first novel. It was a birthday gift to me and I read it in three days. I then waited one day and read it all over again. It is one of the most elegantly written novels I've ever read: Solomon chooses words as if they were precious jewels and then sets them perfectly. And yet, the reader is never conscious of the author, as Armistead Maupin says, "using a ten dollar word when a ten cent word will do." A STONE BOAT tells of a gifted classical pianist, Harry, at the beginning of what will no doubt be a major career. An American living in London, Harry joins his privileged family for what is supposed to be a joyous holiday in France. But it is here that they learn that Harry's mother has cancer. This tragedy is the centerpiece of the narrative, but it is the lives that touch Harry's and his mother's that make the book even more fascinating and complex, funny, charming and, above all, achingly beautiful. The novel is not packed with scores of characters. Rather it is an intimate story of a family and the few who are their satellites: from Harry's good-hearted, passive, British male lover to his wise and strong American girlfriend, from his unforgiving, tough-minded agent to his hedonistic sex partner, Nick. It is, in the end, a story of life conquering death, of a family bonding at first to refuse Death admittance to their home and then, finally, conspiring to help one of their own die, in her own way and time by her own hand with dignity and grace. This is a once-in-a-lifetime read: a novel to cherish. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Wonderful novel
This is a very touching and wonderfully written novel. Every scene in it has the feel of authenticity. Highly recommended for readers willing to let themselves be moved emotionally by powerful prose.

An amazingly articulate and moving novel...a must-read!
Andrew Solomon's "A Stone Boat" is a remarkable first novel. The author's mastery of the English language and the way he uses it to create senses of setting and character are incredible. There is much to admire, too, in Mr. Solomon's way with a story. His characters are real as are their relationships. Harry, the main charactor/narrator, describes his mother upon first sight in the most extraordinary way - close your eyes and you see her sitting across the room. This passage is one to read and re-read all the while savoring the beauty of the language and the sheer descriptive powers of the author. Do not lend this book to your friends or you will never see it again - the prose is that remarkable. One hopes Mr. Solomon is working on his second, third and fourth books as this review is being written.

A stimulus to communcating with a loved one
Graphic Sex is a book I wish was available 20 years ago, but it's never too late! This racy, in many ways sound volume, has something for everyone, even if there is no lover on the horizon. Selecting one of four pictures that appeals to you, and then to your mate, you find yourself discussing your compatibilities in ways you never communicated before. A compendium in the back of the book explains how Mrs. Solomon derived her sketches. A copy should be on your coffee table--oops!make that night table.

The title is deceiving!
Not only does this book arouse one's healthy interest in our hidden, deceptive?, sensual side of our personality, but it also delicately and delightfully helps us to understand our basic, instinctual motives and actions and how to change and improve them. Ms. Solomon's interpretations are done so in a highly intelligent, respectful manner and are well supported by valid studies which makes this book worth reading. After taking the tests in the book, my friend and I arrived at a more honest place in our relationship, understand our different sexual needs better, and can now go forward with the improvement suggestions the author offers. It is much more than what we imagined and honestly well worth the price. But it doesn't sit long enough on my coffee table, getting dog-eared; when company arrives they can't resist browsing and they are always amazed at the accurate test results. Hope there is another book in the making by Shirl Solomon; she has such a keen insight into human nature. Written by a pleased owner of "Graphic Sex", By The Sea in Central NJ.

valuable information
I recently purchased this book and I must say that I found it intelligently written with an underlying sense of humor. It was very informative and the illustrations are successfull in getting the reader really involved. I want to add that I found the illustrations intreaguing and beautifully designed.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Jewish, Christian, and Classical Reflections on Human Psychology

Sloth as the worst?
Sin is a dirty word in most modern psychotherapy. How refreshing it is to find a book that tries to revitalize the notion of sin while tempering it with modern thinking. But make no mistake: this is no religious rant, no fundamentalist tract. Far from it; here is a wise, cautious attempt to marry modern psychotherapy with traditional wisdom. The author's rather conservative (or at least traditional) Judaism shows on every page, but he is still a thoughtful and tolerant writer.

The book is laid out in a very plain fashion: an introduction ("The Persistence of Sin"), chapters for each of the seven sins, then a conclusion ("Sin and Responsibility"). There are abundant references to Chaucer, to Shakespeare, to lesser-known Jewish and Islamic thinkers of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The sin # 1 chapter, Pride, gives us the Satan of Milton's PARADISE LOST as the prime example. Sin # 2, Envy, has Shakespeare's Iago; the third chapter, on Anger, has King Lear's opening scene featured (see pp. 106-107), and discusses the American mania for lawsuits as a means of vengeance. The Lust chapter is the most delicate one in the book; Schimmel here has to temper modern notions of healthy sexual self-expression against the dangers of lechery and overindulgence. This chapter fades nicely into Sin # 5, Gluttony, which we moderns might call Overindulgence - of food, sex, or drink (or even drugs, but Schimmel oddly doesn't go there).he wisdom of the ages has no consensus on which sin is the most deadly, but Schimmel's placing of Greed as the sequential penultimate Sin seems far from arbitrary. Think of the obsession in the modern West with what the Canadian thinker and politician Eric Kierans recently called the "accumulation" mania, a sickness summed up by the 1990s bumper-sticker, "he who has the most toys when he dies, wins."

Onto Schimmel's seventh and final sin: Sloth. Here is the book's most troubling and troublesome chapter. Sloth here is only minimally what we usually associate with the word: aziness, laying-about, being a couch-potato. Far more important is Schimmel's attachment of Sloth to what we might call "existential despair." Sloth is not only physical, but intellectual. If we lay back, hide, retreat, take cover because life is just too overwhelming, then we are guilty of Sloth. It seems to me that Schimmel is here (and only here) a bit cruel to those of us who may have biochemical imbalances and severe mood swings. But this chapter seems to urge us to carry on even if we are clinically depressed and intellectually despairing. It is odd how Schimmel, elsewhere in this book so adept at linking the ancient wisdom to the modern, can go on about Job (194-95) but never mention someone like Samuel Beckett.

Here's an activity for a serious dinner-party or an intelligent classroom: compare the sequence of the seven sins in this book's chapters with the progression of the seven in the late 1990s movie SEVEN (with Brad Pitt as Bad Cop, Morgan Freeman as Good Cop, Kevin Spacey as psychopath villain).

this book was a wonderful documentry of the sins
I have read many such books and I find this one to be the most informitive and well-written

beautiful eye-opener in radiant truth
Anyone who wonders what he or she is about today will find great directives in this book. It is so full of old cultures and tradition, the genuine feel of which we seem to lack to-day in our hasteful, almost superficial world. From viewpoints of ancient times comes a timeless voice, rich in human experience and wisdom. It is the great accomplishment that ancient knowledge has been made accessible in a modern, somewhat therapeutic way. The book is clear, honest and compassionate, and renders a good insight in what sin is precisely, and our human ability to make good and beautify our souls and existence. To everyone withdrawing once in a while to be with themselves: read this book!
