Writing about photography as a vital and popular art form
Allan Douglas Coleman first began writing about photography as a vital and popular art form, and a culturally transformative medium of visual communication in the late 1960s. Under the adept editorship of Nancy Solomon, we are now presented with the first definitive bibliography of those writings spanning 1968 to 1995. The comprehensive research guide to one of the most influential 20th century photography critics annotates more than 1,450 items, with a full bibliographic citation for each specific publication, plus a brief synopsis of its content. The core reference work is enhanced with an extensive, comprehensive subject index. A. D. Coleman: A Bibliography Of His Writings On Photography From 1968 To 1995 is an invaluable and much appreciated contribution to academic and professional history of photography library reference collections.

Clarity
One of the biggest problems I run across as a Marketing Communications Manager is how people define their marketing and advertising goals. Often they mix marketing and advertising objectives and strategies. This book not only helps clarify these but gives excellent examples. In addition, it shows why setting specific goals is paramount to your success. How many times have you received a brief from marketing with the goal of increasing sales? Or decreasing churn? This book will help you prove your successes (and failures).

strong Solomon mystery
It is going to be a wedding extravagance and the mother of the bride is driving florist Bretta Solomon crazy with all weird endless string of ideas. Other River City, Missouri merchants are also going certifiable trying to satisfy a woman whose plans keep changing and turning more complicated and stranger by the second. Days before the wedding, Evelyn Montgomery calls for a meeting to include Sonya the event coordinator, Dana the caterer, and Claire the hair stylist.

Before Evelyn can ever speak, Oliver dies from a heart attack while staring at the other merchants.. Late that same day, Bretta visits Claire's Hair Salon because the stylist hinted she knows something about Oliver' death. Bretta arrives at the beauty shop too late because Claire is dead, the victim of a murderer. A few days later one of Claire's clients is killed in a gas explosion and Bretta thinks all the deaths are linked. Unable to keep her curiosity in check, Bretta decides to investigate not realizing that somebody will go to any lengths to stop her.

This is the fourth Solomon mystery and it is the best by far. The characters are all likable, even the pesky mother of the bride, so readers won't want any person in A DEADLY BOUQUET to be the villain. The climax is shocking, and nobody will be able to figure out what is really going on until Janis Harrison reveals the perpetrator in her cerebral puzzler that is nothing short of genius.

A gem of a book
This is not a typical lecture. It is Leo Steinberg at his best--witty, learned, insightful--giving us a brief survey of Robert Rauschenburg's art from the early 1950s until the present day. The book is beautifully designed and printed, and makes a great gift for anyone interested in the New York art scene. A lot of book for the buck.

Fearless Warrior: A Gunner's Mate on the Beach at Guadalcanal
Published in Hardcover by McFarland & Company (1991)
Author: Bill Kennedy
Amazon base price: $26.50
Used price: $28.75
Collectible price: $26.47
Average review score:

Excellent picture of life on Guadalcanal during the campaign
Bill Kennedy spent almost the entire campaign at Tulagi and Guadalcanal. His well written book is informative and humorous. Although hundreds of sailors (USN & USCG) served at the Tulagi and Lunga Point bases, little has been written about them. Unfortunately, this book provides few names and dates. It does, however, provide an accurate description of a sailor's life ashore during the Guadalcanal campaign.

Felix Gonzalez-Torres
Published in Hardcover by Harry N Abrams (1999)
Author: Nancy Spector
Amazon base price: $45.00
Average review score:

Eloquent essay, sensitive design...
This is perhaps the best monograph of any contemporary artist out there today. Spector's essay is reserved, lucid, and leaves room for the imagination of the reader. She balances her own ideas with numerous quotes by the artist, developing a partnership, a conversation. And the reproductions are just stunning. Reading this book is an intimate experience--it captures the spirit of Felix Gonzales Torres' work and life. It's the sort of book you'll carry with you everywhere and never know just why.
