Song of Solomon Beloved Jazz

making love possible
When facing the question of love (is it possible?) this book should be your manual. Just like "Beloved" deals with parental love and "Paradise" deals with love between man and his God, "Jazz" is the ultimate in romantic love. It is romantic, sometimes even funny, and all through reading it makes you feel like you`re standing on the edge of a cliff, hearing the most important thing to make the rest of your life livable, or at least give you the option to fly. It`s sad, on the verge of tragedy all through the book but somehow it keeps missing the tragic by a few inches and becomes if not optimistic, at least moral enough to make you belive in love (and the possibility of ethics) again. Though it is placed in early 20th century NY City, it is never nostalgic or cliche or preechy - Tony Morissons writing has such an air of urgency and blunt observation about it that it never falls into any of these traps. Read it, it amazing!!!!

A selection of poems in celebration mutual love
Deftly edited by David W. Cotter, The Song Of Songs: Studies In Hebrew Narrative & Poetry by Dianne Bergant (Professor of Biblical Studies and Director of the Joint Doctor of Ministry Program, Catholic Theological Union) is an exhaustive and meticulous analysis of the Song of Songs, viewing it as a selection of poems in celebration mutual love. Special attention is paid to the careful matter of translating the poetic verse from Hebrew, and the cultural context of the poetry. The Song Of Songs is strongly recommended as an invaluable, serious, college-level analysis for scholars of Biblical Studies in general, and Hebrew narrative and poetry in particular.

Sex in the Ancient Near East
Revealed at last: the sexy thoughts and salacious deeds of luscious dark-eyed babes and macho Mediterranean hunks! Not to mention juicy philological-literary commentaries and lurid hieroglyphic transcriptions.

Now that ought to sell.

The best soy book I've seen.
Soy Smart Health is the best book on soy I've seen so far. Solomon et al have explored areas of soy health benefits I haven't ever considered. Their research is complete and current, with citations as recent as March 2000. This book is definitely one of the best purchases I've made this year. All of my friends have one now.

One of the most well-known of alchemical works
This sixteenth century books is often cited. It contains many pictures and the commentary by the accomplished modern alchemist Adam McLean is interesting. This book is a must. It is wonderful that one can have these famous medieval works in ones own bookshelf.

Tales of wisdom enjoyable by young and old alike
I read this book as a child and enjoyed it then, but even moreso as a parent reading it my kids. While this book invokes a sense of nostalgia, its timeless quality provides an opportunity to teach (and learn) ethics and morality in a non-preachy way. These warm and sometimes dramatic stories teach that wisdom is worth acquiring, that wisdom can be and should be used for good, but that wisdom also involves the wisdom to use our abilities in a modest manner. I have chosen to read it to my children over the span of a few months so that we can savor and discuss the stories. Stories of King Solomon is a delight.

Recommended for young readers age 3-10
Recommended for young readers age 3-10, Thank You, Solomon is a color picturebook about a little boy who gets a new puppy as a Christmas gift. But puppies require a lot of care, and only someone who can be responsible for a puppy's needs can own a puppy. The boy learns what it is to be responsible from the biblical story of Solomon. Engagingly written by Charlotte Lundy whose narrative is wonderfully showcased with the artwork of Miriam Sagasti, Thank You, Solomon incorporates the biblical story of Solomon's succession after the death of his father King David. Highly recommended for family, Sunday School, Bible School, and community library collections.

"Looking back in anger" with a sad tune!
There's only one way to remember them:reading
and humming the "song"they inspire along the
poetical and invoking lines of an almost shamanic
incantation rising to bring them back into
life so that we meet, know and re-bury them with love and
awe,with respect and recognition of
a sacrifice as supreme as crucifying itself.
They are all deities in the lost and sacred
society bush of ancestors long forgotten and recalled when the moments are
supreme, when it comes to love, life
and death: Beloved, Macon Dead, Violet, Circe...
