THE Greatest Writer in this century
There is nothing difficult in reading Ms Morrison. She is very detailed and that requires concentration. She answers no questions for you and perhaps that is what makes some readers say she is too complicated. If you remember the character, when she jumps forward or backward in the story, it is easy to pick up where she left off. Beloved is merely a song about a woman's commitment to not suffering any more indignities if it were in her power not to do so. Perhaps her initial method was extreme but then again, what is not extreme about enslavement? What is not extreme about a group of people having no history beyond the 19th century? What is difficult about her novels is that you have to have the answers to these questions before you start reading.

Unger's Commentary on the Old Testament Volume 1 Genesis Song of Solomon
Published in Hardcover by Moody Publishers (1981)
Author: Merrill Frederick Unger
Amazon base price: $23.95
Used price: $16.67

The Best Commentary Available
The book will be most appreciated by those searching for a true grace-oriented scholar who glorifies the Lord, not himself, in his writings. Words cannot describe how inspirational this work is. Unger's pedigree is outstanding, his scholarship supreme and his style easy-going and understandable. When reading his Commentary, one can imagine taking feverish notes at his class lectures at Dallas Theological Seminary. What a rare honor and treat that would have been! This book is the Magnum Opus of the greatest Old Testament Scholar of our time.

Union and Communion: A Devotional Study of How the Song of Solomon Reveals a Believer's Union With Christ

A wonderful treasure of holiness and love!
This book by J. Hudson Taylor is a good example of "great things coming in small packages." Although less than 100 pages, when read along with your Bible, UNION & COMMUNION really demonstrates God's redemptive love through Jesus Christ is present from Genesis to Revelation.

Faith/religion without love is nothing more than meaningless ritual. The SONG OF SONGS/SOLOMON really is the Holy of Holies in terms of the God's love for all of mankind. I highly recommend this book.

Too good to pass up!
Another fantastic book by author, Jay Solomon. I picked this one up, because I have celiac (gluten intolerance). Rice is one of the grains that I can eat so this book gets used quite frequently. Rice seems like a simple grain, but the diversity of recipes in this book make me want to eat rice every night! Some favorites are Sante Fe Posole Stew, Emily's Pepperoncini Rice Salad, Greek Spinach Pilaf, Champagne, Mushroom, and Spinach Risotto, Nasi Goreng, and Red Hot Lava Stir-Fry. A must have for any who wants or needs an alternative to breads and pastas!

The joy of discovery
I wonder how many art collectors and even scholars have had the pleasure of encountering the work of Vilhelm Hammershoi.......This Danish painter (1864 - 1916) discovered his own form of impressionism and figure painting out of the main stream of world renowned painters. Yes, people who know Scandanavian art surely are familiar with this master, but how can the rest of us be conversant about the likes of Edvard Munch and not have had the introduction to this master painter? This wondrous volume fills a gap for all of us. Hammershoi has been compared to Vermeer for his uncanny sense of light, shadow, and composition. Just browse through the pages of this stately volume and drink in the atmosphere of the dark interiors and architectural renderings of Denmark's buildings and towns and bridges. His figures often face away from us as though the nearby window or other sensitive light source were more significant than their face. His palette is limited to umber/sienna/brown,black/white with only the ocassional use of warmer tones. But how these paintings illumine us! Hammershoi is in that rare class of painter with Antonio Lopez Garcia - two men who reveal our world to us as though we had never seen it. An utterly elegant and quiet monograph. Highly recommended.

Visions of the Night: A Study of Jewish Dream Interpretation
Published in Paperback by Shambhala Publications (1990)
Author: Joel Covitz
Amazon base price: $12.95
Used price: $9.95
Average review score:

Dream Interpretation? The Quintessential Book!
After intensively studying self-awareness religiously (no pun intended) for 4 years, I can honestly say that this book is one of the finest books I've ever read on dreams. The author is a Jungian psychologist/rabbi.

Covitz' book is his abridgement of 15th century rabbi Solomon Almoli, who entitled his book The Interpretation of Dreams. It has been re-published for over 400 years, and Covitz' publication is an insightful journey into Almoli's remarkable theories which he draws from the Talmud, Torah, Bible, and anecdotal traditional Jewish lore (note: even Freud cited Almoli's book in Freud's Interpretation of Dreams...seems interesting that both books have the same title!).

Whether you are Jewish or not, this book is a must read for anyone who wants to understand the meaning behind their dreams...not merely the symbolism but the underlying current which Almoli posits are a gift from a higher source. I believe it's very well written and can be enjoyed by both professional therapists and laypersons.

This book is hard to find and out of print, but well worth the effort. I've read it twice, and ordered 4 copies for friends.
