Amazing. There is nothing like it anywhere.
These people are ahead of their time - if you had a chance to catch the Guggenheim retrospective of the same name, you know what I am talking about. In 50 years, more people will know about Arakawa and Gins than right now, but why wait? We need to change the direction of humanity NOW!

This book goes though the vast output of Arakawa and Madeline Gins, from Arakawa's thought-provoking conceptual paintings from the 60's, to their more current philosophies about the body and architectural surround.

The pictures are colorful and vivid, every page is different and exciting. Their newer computer renderings of beautiful organic housing projects will blow you away. When you open a book like this in a room full of people, everyone will gather around you to get a look! When something is different than the norm but still maintains logic and beauty, it naturally attracts people.

Get this book before it becomes a collector's item.

Pop art with more humor than Warhol ever dreamed of!
Some of Roy Lichtenstein's first works were humorous copies of Micky Mouse and Donald Duck that were done in part for his children. Thus her found both his trademark comic strip dots, and a charming sense of childlike innocence that can be found in most of his work.

Well, I'm a little partial, Roy Lichtenstein is one of my all time favorites, but this is a beautiful book. There are 350 full color reproductions and only 408 pages, so the majority of this book allows you to see the artist's work for yourself.

And what an incredible sample it is! The murals, the comic strips, of course THE GIRLS, the surrealism. I love "Cow Going Abstract". Who else could so lovingly mock every other artist! Carra, Picaso, Matisse, Magritte, Dali, Schlemmer- No one was safe! But Lichtenstein brought his own outlook to each of these artists, not merely copying, but giving that childlike enthusiasm - bright colors and virtually no shading - to all of their works.

This book abounds with the inspirational material for Roy Lichtenstein's work - The Dali's are right next to Lichtensteins own versions. Even his Brushstrokes series makes more sense when the little comic strip that inspired it is shown.

This book is an absolute treasure. It's only fault - it needs a sturdier binding!

Another gorgeous collection from the Guggenheim.

Rare and recommended gender-conscious photography
Rrose Is a Rrose Is a Rrose is a valuable contribution to any gender study or discourse. Complete with gender-conscious commentaries and gender-awareness raising photography, Rrose establishes itself as one of the forerunners in photography regarding this seldom considered, but often accessed, aspect of human life, sex, and sexuality.

Rrose... highlights most of the key issues within gender discourse as depicted through photography: gender hierarchy, origination of gender, androgyny and indifferentiation, and gender tension (both masculine and feminine manifestations).

Especially provocative are the works of Matthew Barney. However, all the works included provide a strong case for the necessity of higher states of gender-consciousness.

This book cannot, and should not, be easily dismissed.

The Safety of Appearing on the Day of Judgment in the Righteousness of Christ

Powerfull Message!
I first read this book when I found an 1804 copy of it printed by Thomas M. Pomroy in an antique store several years ago. The letter S was printed like an f without horizontal lines but reading the intro I recognized the message as bold , direct, ringing with truth.Stoddard writes with an uncompromising understanding and presentation of the Gospel. When you read this work, expect to be convicted and humbled. You'll get a clear understanding of not only how to be rescued by God but grow in appreciation when you see how He does it! I didn't have a clue when I read this author who he was, but I could tell he had something vital every soul alive needs to know -even today as a new millennium dawns. Stoddard writes in short bites. He wastes no words. He writes clearly for the average reader, yet a theologian would grow in understanding. The Word of God is quoted frequently. Needless to say, I bought this ancient copy. I'm glad I did. Get yourself a copy- IF you love truth. You won't be disappointed! In Christ, Zach

This story book makes a wonderful gift for pre-teens and up!
This book teaches readers to trust their own intuition and to develop their own connection to Source, God, All That Is. This book helps children to value their own sense of what's right and wrong FOR THEM and therefore not to be buffeted about by what everyone else in society sees an appropriate behavior FOR THEM. For, as the author says, one cannot stand on one's head in enough ways to please everybody, even if you live in a small town--even pleasing just your own family all the time is not a realistic goal. In short, this book shows children in story form how trusting themselves can better their lives.

Highly Recommended!
This is the second of the five major Hebrew medieval poets of Spain that Peter Cole has translated for Princeton's "Lockert Library" series.

I just hope that he goes on to translate the remaining three poets, and in the process restores this forgotten nook of Western Literature to its rightful place in the sun!

Shame and Its Sisters: A Silvan Tomkins Reader

Silvan Tomkins Redux
The work of psychologist Silvan Tomkins may finally earn reappraisal, thanks to this collection. Editors Sedgwick and Frank have chosen wisely from Tomkins' four-volume investigation of affect, Affect,Imagery, and Consciousness, presenting in this collection an overview of Tomkins'groundbreaking work.

Silvan Tomkins outlines a way of thinking about affect that is part-science, part-poetry; his work on shame, in particular, offers insights not just for psychologists but for anyone interested in the mysterious and pervasive mechanisms of shame in social and intimate life. The brilliant introduction, "Shame in the Cybernetic Fold," relocates Tomkins' work for a contemporary and interdisciplinary audience. Fans of editor Sedgwick will be fascinated, I think, by her explorations in unfamiliar territory; equally, the introduction excites interest in newcomer Frank. I found this book enthralling, leading me straight to Tomkins' own collections.

Best TextBook I have ever read.
Quite honestly, this is the only text book that I have sat down to read on its own accord. The information is very useful and entertaining to boot. It discusses commercials and why we like them and how they appeal to us. It talks about movies, icons and cultural phenomenon that you can identify with. Just sit down, read the first chapter, and you will understand why this is a quality text book.
