Marion Morash Fish and Vegetable Cookbook
It's frustrating. I have had this book for 2-3 years and am constantly using it's receipies. My daughter and several other friends are asking me about receipies in it and would love to have a copy- and I would love to provide one for them. I have been doing this for a very long time- Is the publisher every going to respond to demand?

Fills in gaps in our study of ancient history
So much more interesting than a textbook for our homeschool study of ancient history! This book covers not only the familiar Egyptian civilization but also several lesser-known yet equally important ones to whom we owe a great deal. For example, the Babylonians gave us our first written laws; the Sumerians gave us writing and the first real cities; the fierce Hittites discovered how to work iron. Children will remember what they learn in this book because the text is accompanied by recipes, crafts, and other activities. I recommend the Hittite Hummus myself.

great
this is a great book for children. there are lots of fun activity's as, well as alot of info. your children and you will find many interesting things to do. if you have children you will want to buy this book.

children will learn while having fun
This book introduces four cultures : the Egyptians, the Mesopotamians, the Nubians and the Hittites. The author accurately presents aspects of these civilizations such as history, geography, architecture, clothing, food, religion, writing and labor. Children will enjoy themselves and become part of these ancient worlds by easily following the instructions of the activities. These include constructing a boat, cooking ancient food, creating clothes, and writing on clay. All in all, it is a fun and informative book for children ages 9 to 12.

Attn. All Women Entering the Third Age of Life!
Eureka!
As a lifetime acquirer of books, and increasingly less-than-overwhelmed by most of the material I read, this is a glorious exception. Marian McCain has written what should be required reading for all women approaching/already in their menopausal years............This outstanding book deals with every possible aspect of the transition into the third age of a woman's life, shedding light, wisdom and credibility into all those dark corners we barely knew existed. I commenced reading 'Elderwoman' at about 9:00pm one evening, and was startled to look up, a little while later, and find it was 2:00am, the following day. I forced myself to put the book down, wanting to savour the promise of 'having something left for later.'

Marian McCain's insights into this fascinating passage in a woman's life are almost uncanny; I had the distinct impression that she must have had a direct 'link' to my own experiences as she wrote. It is, I find, enormously comforting to have my own personal journey into Elderhood 'validated' by the writings of this very wise woman.

Please, ladies, do yourself a huge favor; if you never buy another book, BUY THIS ONE!!

The Joy of Being Elder
I found this book to be the starting flag of my new journey into life. It is the beginning of the 2nd race for me and I am leading the pack. I've never given much thought to what I should be thinking at this stage in life but now, through Marian's words of wisdom I think I know. Thanks Marian.

Toward Elder Status and Joy
Marian McCain has written a glorious book on woman's journey into her third age (or cronehood), and how I wish this book had been in existence when I began my own voyage some years ago! Life's journey is a curious and winding trail full of twists, turns and surprises, one which takes us through shaded valleys, across moonlit mesas, and at last up into the high clear air of the mountains. The journey to elderhood should be joyful and without fear, and Elderwoman is the perfect volume to take along on our travels, an atlas and a guide book chock full of wisdom, compassion, simplicity, lightness and yes, passion too. I keep a copy of this book close by, and I return to it often.

MUST HAVE!! A great resource for one and all!!!
This book contains an remarkable assortment of information on everything from how to get stains out of your carpet to how to shop for insurance! It provides wonderfully detailed information, in an easy-to-understand manner, that is helpful to one and all! How so much information can fit into such a small book is amazing!

Although it is primarily aimed at young adults who are starting out on their own for the first time, it contains information helpful to people of any age!! Very practical, helpful advice.

It also makes a GREAT graduation gift!! If you don't have a copy in your home, you should!! By one for yourself, and one to share!

Awesome resource for one and all!
Not only for the newly out of the nest types. This book is for everyone. Lots of practical advice and what should be considered common sense but isn't.

Everything I should have learned before I was out on my own!
This book includes many concepts I should have learned before I headed out into the "real world." This book helped me deal with the unforseen issues of daily life such as "How can I find a roommate that's right for me?", "What Can I Do if I Have to Move Before My Lease Expires?", "How do I remove carpet stains?", "How do I stay safe while traveling abroad?", "How do I take care of my newly acquired business attire?" and many, many more! Thank you, Marian for making my life a little easier!

Finally, a lifestyle change that works!
Wow, what a terrific and insightful method of conquering compulsive overeating! After getting her book and companion workbook, I called Marian and now work with her directly to further achieve success. It works!

It's More Than About Your Weight
This book goes so much more beyond just weight loss. It deals with the issues of what causes you to turn to food, or as in my case, what makes you have a dysfunctional relationship with food and with yourself. As a recovered anorexic, this book has helped me deal with so many of the issues in my life that I was never really ready to deal with. It has helped me learn to set boundaries with people, therefore enabling me to have healthier realationships with those in my life that I love. Most of all though, reading Marian's words has helped me to reach a level in my life where I am taking better care of myself than ever before. With this book and the self-exploration that it will teach you, will be able to change the things in your life that you want to change through your own thoughts and actions. Best of all for me now, I am able to "deal" with those things in my life that I never thought I could before, instead of turning to food, diet and weight pre-occupation. I feel like I have my life back! Thank you Marian!!

Reconnecting to who we were meant to be . . .
Reading Marian's words causes thoughts to flow with new clarity. She has helped me to reconnect to who I was meant to be physically, spiritually and emotionally. I always look forward to writing about the thoughts she inspires. Getting to know myself has been a wonderful adventure. With her deep experience in coaching people through "The Shape of You", Marian has devoped the intuition and experience to help people, really help themselves. "Journey to the Shape of You" is about awareness and living. It is gentle, honest, and straight forward. The best part about working through this journey isn't even the fact that I don't have a weight problem that I struggle with anymore. It is being peaceful and being able to raise my children with awareness, with personal boundaries, with a strong and real sense of self so that they live in the light of awareness and won't fall into the same diet trap I did. I would (and often do) recommend "Journey to the Shape of You" to anyone that has struggled with their weight and wants weight to no longer be an issue in their lives.

An Eighth Grade Must-Read!
If this book or one like had been available when I was moping around in the eighth grade, I would have been ... well, I would have had a much easier time with college. Marian Borden has written a readable, fact and tip filled, entertaining book aimed at kids in middle school (though she makes in clear that parents are more than welcome). She demystifies and organizes a process that has grown amazingly complicated and difficult, and she makes it fun. In fact, she shows how kids can increase their enjoyment of those years while building a solid record of accomplishment and depth that will make them interesting to college admissions types. The message of KickStart to College goes way beyond admissions, however, and provides strategies and actions that will help kids make the most of their college experience. It's indeed too bad I didn't have it when I needed it, but I'm glad the book is here for my niece.

Keep this book on a easy-to-reach shelf
Well, this confirms what savvy teens and their parents already know - Middle School is NOT too early to start thinking about college. That's where a lot of the ground work is laid - because that's where smart kids get on track taking the right math and science courses (which you can't get into later on if you lack the prerequisiste course from the year before), begin or expand their foreign language studies, and start taking meaningful electives such as art, drama, and architectural drawing.

Borden talks about the Early Decision dilemmas that have been in the news recently. She also gives the inside scoop on standardized testing (also in the news a lot.) She offers sensible guidelines for visiting colleges, determining where to apply, and various kinds of financial aid that might be available for you. And she tells you why every college applicant should take SAT prep courses.

This book helps you focus on the details you can control, and let go of the rest. If you start early (and "early" is a key word) you can significantly improve your chances of getting into the college of your choice.

Throughout the book, Borden gives you the facts, and then zeroes in on the "Bottom Line" - what, exactly, do you need to know about this or that. Her book is easy to read and understand. The set up is also easy to follow.

A MUST for families of college-bound students!
What an incredibly complete guide to the college application process! Marian Borden has thoroughly researched this increasingly complex journey and made wonderful suggestions on subjects as varied as high school course selection, standardized test-taking, summertime and extra-curricular activities, and the college search and application process. She has also included a very complete chapter for the student-athlete hoping to play college level sports. She has answered so many questions so completely under one cover - a MUST for families of college-bound middle and high schoolers!

Good make ahead recipes
I've found the recipes here generally simple and easy to make ahead. Mrs. Burros is very clear in her instructions (although I had some problems with a chocolate roll)and the taste combinations are very good. As this book is an update of her original there are a number of amusing asides on changes in food ingredients and cooking styles between the two editions. Not quite a "must-have" but useful.

Recipes Taste Great and Work!
I am a personal caterer, which means I cook in clients' homes, enough for 2 weeks or a month, and then package the entrees in the refrigerator or freezer. This cookbook is one of the staples of my trade. I highly recommend buying it and trying the jambalaya and Mustard Pork Tenderloin.

Bought the original in'67 for $2.95, loved it to death
Would buy the new edition in paper back. I personally don't need any more hard back cook books, they take up up too much space, epecially at that price.

Good one...
Thought it would be rehash of other marketing books--nothing big, nothing new. Wrong. Good stuff on the trendspreaders, versus the trendsetters. Makes me rethink do you wanna be Alpha or Bee, and if you're a marketer, if you're wasting money chasing the first versus the third one to try something new. I know the authors' work from NEXT, but this BUZZ is much more focused, and insightful, also a very easy read. It's almost too fun to be a business book.

A vision of the future
This book is written by real visionaries who thoughtfully and thoroughly open your eyes to the truth about marketing in an information saturated society. Nothing works harder or better than word of mouth and instead of waiting around and hoping it might happen for your business, buy this book and learn how to create it. You'll be amazed at the fascinating stories, ideas and practical applications crammed in this enormously intelligent book that will help you understand how to create successful buzz for your business.

Eminently Readable
Buzz is the sort of business book that lay readers will find informative and fascinating. The examples are timely and thought provoking, helping me understand why some products and campaigns are successful and others are not. In today's marketplace, the consumer needs to be as savvy as the marketer.

Matt:Hungry for Adventure?
The Donner Party is a story about a group heading to California in April, 1846. However, bad decisions and trickery lead them to the point of starvation. To survive, they must eat those that have died along the way.

The Donner Party is the most exciting nonfiction book I've rea, written not as a documentary or research thing, but as an adventure story. It is, however, hard to imagine this actually happening because it seams so much like fiction. It is also written in a way that all the families, excluding the main family, the Reeds, are shoved way into the backround and seem to barely exist.

I recommend this book to those that don't mind lengthy stories and the overall concept of the book. It may also work well as something to help a report or something, having all the information right there in an easier-to-read way than most forms of research. I'd recommend this book for ages 12 and higher, because of the way it is written and it's length.

Excellent Reading!!
I'm not much of a history buff, but I have to teach my kids CA history this year. Once I started reading this book it was hard to put down. The thing that surprised me the most was how thoroughly readable it is. I didn't feel like I was reading a history textbook. The prose is well done, there are ample photos of the people involved and artifacts etc.,.. The only thing I would improve would be to include maybe one more map. But that isn't even worth complaining about. This book covers a gruesome and sad event in American history without being overly maudlin, grotesque or judgemental. Despite the elementary looking artwork on the front, it's not a book for children.

The Perilous Journey of the Donner Party
You think you've had "trubels"? Wait until you read this book. This story details the journey of several families, known as the Donner Party, as they travel from Springfield, Illinois to Sutter's Fort, California in the Spring of 1846. The author tells the story through the eyes of the children, detailing Virginia Reed's recording of the journey. This is a gripping story of the unbelievable determination of survival. The book is loaded with authentic pictures and diary entries. You won't believe the sacrifices these people made to settle unknown land in America. A great piece of historical work!

Excellent Overview of Strategic Planning
This book is an extremely readable overview of strategic planning in healthcare today. The chapters build on each other very well, and leave the reader with an excellent picture of the whys and hows of development of strategic vision relative to the position and capabilities of the organization. The section on strategic intent is particularly useful. The tables and figures are useful, clear, and easy to understand. Each chapter ends with "Lessons Learned", a useful summary and reminder of the chapter contents. I recommend this book as both a primer and refresher for those interested in healthcare stategic planning.

A practical guide to strategy development
It is clear when reading Health Care Strategy for Uncertain Times that the authors have significant experience in strategy development in the healthcare arena. The book clearly outlines a process for strategy development and points out common pitfalls along the way (e.g. mistaking data for information, focusing on experience rather than skills when choosing members of the strategy development team, etc.). Furthermore, the book describes useful tools for addressing uncertainty (i.e. decision-analysis, scenario planning and game theory) and provides a framework for determining when a specific tool will prove useful.

Perhaps what makes the book most valuable, however, is what it does not include. There are no claims of sure-fire solutions that are, unfortunately, so common in contemporary strategy literature. The authors correctly realize that cookie-cutter solutions offer no long term benefit to the reader (and most likely no short term benefit either). Rather the authors have created a guide to building a strategy development process that, once developed, will be applicable to any situation.

Excellent Set of Tools
This book proposed a variety of tools that are incredibly helpful in moving a management team (and leadership team) along in thinking about the strategies that the organization is undertaking. It is also helpful in looking at the tacit strategies undertaken by not making decisive moves. The material proposes a broad range of ways to engage the strategic framework, given the market driven changes that befall the healthcare providers. Marion Jennings, Susie Krentz and the JRK team are impressive thought leaders that generously share their 'lessons learned' in this very useful book.
