Great book on natural choices & self-health care seekers.
Wow - its like condensed orange juice! Clearly explains the how, what, why of healing. The chapter and chart on Price versus Value of supplements was the clearest and easiest explanation in a few short pages, that I've ever read. The doctors and pharmacists involved in writing it, deserve applause - first time I got the whole picture, along with clear and easy to understand information about everything from herbs to vitamins, flower remedies and everything in between. Dr. Pettles one page description on his natural menopausal hormone replecment therapy and natural choices versus the drug approach, made getting the book worth every cent! I copied the page for a friend, who ended up getting the book and showing it to her doctor. She said it was so simple and clear, her doctor stopped trying to push the drugs and gave her a prescription for Dr Pettles natural hormone replacement therapy - on top of that its working for her. Not since I read Mindells Vitamin Bible, have I read such a clear, information packed book! A must have for anyone interested in natural remedies and supplements - fanstastic value for the money. Incidently, I am NOT related to the authors.

Ann Can Fly
I read this book when is was in the early grades of elementary school. It created a love afair with aviation that has led me to a career in aviation. I have flown nearly every small aircraft produced by the major airplane manufacturers. And to day I am a captain with one of the worlds largest airlines. Thanks Ann.

'Ann Can Fly' captures the imagination
This was a siminal book in not only mine but the lives of many of my gradeschool classmates. It had all the elements of a great story: airplanes, great pictures and a kids outlook on the world. This and 'Andrew Henry's Meadow" became staples of imaginative thought and allowed a vicariously shared experience. You (or your kids) will return to it often

The Art of Fred Marcellino

One of a kind
An eye-opening book about a unique artist.

By the time I arrived at the end of this gorgeous and graciously-written volume, I'd arrived at the conclusion that Fred Marcellino has contributed more to "the art of the book" than anyone in memory. And possibly more than anyone in the past century.

The book contains a treasure-trove of marvelously reproduced images. They span Marcellino's unique career as both the greatest-ever illustrator of book jackets and one of the greatest-ever illustrators of children's books.

Among the visuals are book jackets of astonishing conceptual power. Do you remember the famous jacket for Tom Wolfe's "Bonfire of the Vanities," a cityscape reflecting off a sleek glass table in a luxury apartment. Or, for "August," the iconic scene of a psychiatrist's couch in a sparely furnished room with the shadowy pattern of Venetian blinds running across a wall. Or, for "Birdy," the touching image of a bird cage, door open, with feathers drifting against a gorgeous sky. Or, the incredible winged arm chair (not wing-backed, but actually winged) for "The Accidental Tourist." Or, the mysteriously curved brick wall for "The Handmaid's Tale." The list goes on.

Simply put, Marcellino revolutionized the book jacket. He combined brilliantly pure concepts, pioneering graphic design, and an uncompromising aesthetic. If his career had ended before he illustrated a single children's book, he already would have won a permanent place as a major force in book art.

Yet Marcellino went on to a second career as a children's book illustrator whose artistry easily ranks with the likes of Maurice Sendak. Here again, "The Art of Fred Marcellino" offers a generous selection of stunning images that cover a wide range of the artist's work. There's the famously life-like portrait of "Puss in Boots," complete with ruffled collar, rakish hat, and whiskers drawn to the millimeter. The illustrations to Hans Christian Anderson's "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" equal Anderson's words in generating unforgettably poignant emotion.

Marcellino amazes with his talent at illustrating peasants in the field as evocatively as royalty at their banquets. His trademark aqua skies and sumptuous clouds are irresistible. His jaw-dropping use of bird's-eye and worms-eye perspective never fail to thrill. The sheer beauty of his pictures harks back to his favored period of art, the Italian Renaissance. This stunning tour through his work shows the highest standards upheld time and again.

Well, I'm really only mentioning the tip of the iceberg. Marcellino's bookshelf for children also includes his hilariously illustrated "Pelican Chorus," his engrossing "Ouch!" (with pictures both droll and spooky), his tender drawings for "Rat's Tale" and "Wainscott Weasel," his magnificent illustrations for E.B. White's classic "Trumpet of the Swan," and his charming watercolors for "The Story of Little Babaji," which made history by bravely peeling away a tragic layer of racism from an inherently innocent children's tale. Not least, there's the hero of "I, Crocodile," who is simply one of the greatest characters in all of children's literature. Marcellino didn't only illustrate this dazzling story, he wrote it as well.

One actually wonders, what couldn't he do? It seems that everything he touched turned into art of enduring quality. He was that rare incarnation, a Renaissance Man. Illustrator. Painter. Graphic designer. Typographer. Author. Furniture designer. Gardener. Maker of tromp l'oueil draperies. Among the special pleasures of "The Art of Fred Marcellino" is a lovely selection of quotes from the artist, sprinkled throughout the book. In these quotes (as in his work), Marcellino's genius and wit and intellectual integrity shine through.

All told, this beautifully designed book is worthy of the artist whose life and work it illuminates. I recommend it enthusiastically.

What's more, I sincerely believe that if you don't already know the work of Fred Marcellino, you'll be forever grateful to make its acquaintance.

Marcellino fans get their due at last
Having been aware of Fred Marcellino's book jackets since the 1980s, and then getting to know a bit of his children's book art when my daughter was small, I was extremely pleased to learn of this book's existence. Marcellino really changed the way we all viewed books when he was doing jackets, and I used to enjoy picking out his covers in stores. But I had no idea of the range he was capable of until I picked up a copy of The Art of Fred Marcellino in the gift shop of the Norman Rockwell Museum. It's pretty amazing to see the way his style evolved over time. He seems to have been capable of working in just about any medium. But the most captivating thing about his art to me is the endless wit. The early work in this book, and the abstract paintings, were a revelation. I work in the printing field, so I also appreciate the way this book was produced, with spot varnish and cover lamination. It's a treasure.

Azaleas, Revised and Enlarged Edition by Frfed C. Galle
..........................I located "Azaleas, Revised and Enlarged Edition by Fred C. Galley" through Amazon.com and purchased it. This book is fascinating, it contains more information than I can ever use. It includes for hundreds of azaleas their names, color desriptions, seasons, origins, and more. There are color plates, sketches of petal shapes and petal markings which I had not seen before. When I open the book, I don't want to put it down.

The Pre-eminent Reference on Azaleas
Fred Galle, is an internationally known azalea expert and past president of the American Horticultural Society (he died 7/26/98 at the age of 79). First published in 1985, "Azaleas" is now in its third printing and is still considered the best reference on the subject and was recently listed by the AHS as one of the 75 Great American Garden Books. This is a reference book that no azalea enthusiast should be without.

Basic Karate is Relevant for Everyone
When I was in grade school, our teacher had us choose our favorite author. I picked Fred Neff, because of enjoying reading his books including one on Basic Karate. A few weeks ago I ran into a copy of his Basic Karate book again. I purchased it and was pleased to see the book was every bit as enjoyable and relevant for me as an adult as when I was a child. The teachings of the book are direct, practical and easy to understand. I especially like the way the book breaks down each fighting technique into steps for learning. This teaching approach makes it very easy to visualize and later practice. The original books I read by Fred Neff whetted my appetite for learning karate. When I got into college, I finally got to realize my dream and take karate lessons from a teacher in a class. Since college, I have continued my study of karate with several different teachers. From my experience, it is clear that the very best way to learn karate is the way taught in the Basic Karate book by Fred Neff. This book is terrific and highly recommended for anyone who is at all interested in karate.

Excellent book!
This book is an excellent book for learning karate! I learned it in about 3 days! The other two days I memorized the moves. My brother was in karate so I challenged him to a duel (the book tells you never to use it unless you have to and how to tell people your not afraid),and I won! My brother was a blue belt that took him years to get and I learned in just three days! The book also tells you safety rules so that no one get's seriously hurt! And to leave you with something short, learning karate just to beat up an enemy is elegal, they have to strike first!

Excellent and well organized
Some of my LGBT friends gave me this book when they heard I would like to learn about their history and the civil rights movement we all work in. I enjoyed it cover to cover and would recomend it without hesitation to other heterosexuals who wanted to get an introduction about the importance of LGBT history without feeling like they were reading a textbook.

excellent history through pictures and writings
this book is an excelent survey of gay and lesbian history through words and images, which are especially worth viewing. the writing is eloquent and concise. i recommend this book to everyone, gay or straight, for an enlightening and well thought out depiction of a history that tends to be so overlooked.

After Reading This book I ask this question again from myself: Is that true, Can robots disturb human's bright technology?
