An excelent book.
Having read what the other gentlements said about the book. I have not much to say. It pretty much gives a better cosmological model for our Universe than the standart model for it brings commum sense and simple logic back to the field. However, I would like to comment a sentence wrote by the Scientific American editors:

"Seemingly plausible ideas can have subtle flaws, and it takes a collective effort of problem solving to find them out."

I wonder that what is going on with mainstream Science nowadays is even worse than I thought. It look likes they assume that standart models can NOT possible be wrong and that any other models MUST fail in order to keep the standart one.

Plausible ideas are the BEST ideas in Science. Of course it still can have flaws, but as they pointed out, the flaws are often subtle. But in the illogical and nonsensical big-bang model, the flaws are OBVIOUS. Also, if you read this book or "Seeing Red" by Alton Harp or "Dark Matter, missing planets and new comets" by Tom V. Flandern, you will find out (in spite of what the Scientific American are trying to tell you) that in fact the standart model IS durty.

I strongly recommend this book because I have found a logical truth and I'd like you find it by yourself as well: The Universe is infinity in space and time and the so-called Big-Bang actually NEVER happened.

Seeing the Universe in a different light...
A rare and well balanced scientific discussion of the relative merits of the new Quasi Steady State versus Big Bang concept of the Universe. This book gives the reader a feel for the basis of our understanding of the Universe. A feeling for the vast uncertainties concerning our interpretation of distant objects, such as Quasars.

Please note: This book is for serious students of cosmology. The authors presume the reader has an understanding of general relativity.

Compelling! the cosmology paradigm debates ended too soon!
Sir Fred Hoyle and fellow authors, Geoffrey Burbidge and Jayant Narlikar show why the paradigm debates in modern cosmology ended too soon! Their sweeping analysis includes the early static universe concepts, the Einstein, de Sitter, and Friedmann-Lemaitre relativistic models, the controversy of the classic Steady-State vs. the Big Bang, and the contemporary Big Bang paradigm. As participants, they discuss the controversies over interpretation of the Hubble velocity-distance relation, light element origins, the radio sources and their fabled distributions, the quasars, the cosmic microwave background, and large-scale matter distribution.

They summarize the accumulating evidences for intrinsic-peculiar redshifts, and ejection of compact X-ray and optical sources from active galactic nuclei. The Big Bang is found wanting both in theoretical assumption and observationally. Building on their Quasi-Steady-State cosmology, the authors propose that both observation and scale-invariant gravitational equations require us to consider an ongoing-episodic creation of matter within the universe. . . .

Don't let prevailing theory (or episodic mathematical equations) keep you from reading this important book!

Great Book.
I vaguely remember having read this story when I was a child. Thanks to Amazon I have been able to rediscover this delightful little book by Fred Gwynne, the guy who played Herman Munster on the television show "The Munsters". I am amazed at Gwynne's skill as both a storyteller and artist; he created the illustrations, too and they are full of warmth and care. In this book a young girl decides to enter her unpedigreed mutt in a local dog show. She loves her dog very much and thinks he has a chance of winning. Then she begins meeting some other competitors whose pooches look an awful lot like their owners. What's a girl to do, but go ahead and enter the competition. It's easy to see why.

Wonderful!
I have an original copy of this book and remember it as a child when my grandmother read it to me. It is humorous as well as predictable. Perfect for the young child! The original charcoal-like illustrations are detailed and lend to the textures found in the dogs at the show. The surprise ending makes the kids smile and is great for "logical reasoning" questions. I love this book and thank my grandma for giving it to me!I recommend it to teachers and parents alike!

Wonderful book for kids and adults alike
As the webmaster of a site about puppy mills I constantly preach the importance of early education for our children about dogs. This book does that! We all love our dogs and Fred Gwynne (Herman Munster as we all knew and loved him) did an incredible job of showing us why.

A mile wide and several feet deep
An excelent, readable, survey of the law on this topic. The greatest strengths of the book are two-fold. First, it is written in easy to follow, plain english. Second, it is amazingly comprehensive. I have been practicing employment law in two millenia, and this is the book that I use (after reviewing dozens) to teach non-lawyer classes on the topic. As with any survey book, it doesn't cover the details of the many topics it touches. You don't want to use this book to deal with comprehensive planning or an employment law dispute. But if you read this book you'll understand much of the language and many of the concerns of the experienced human resources professional or lawyer that you need.

Protect your business from employee and government law suits
Here is the book that will teach you what you need to know to keep compliance with the law and protect your business. Easy to read and comprehend, this book will help you promote fair business practices and avoid lawsuits. Folks, there are many laws most business people don't know about. This book will bring you up to speed. It's a necessity for the small and large business alike.

Beautiful photographs of a fantastic collection
Mr. Traina's book about his incomparable collection is a masterwork of photography, reproduction and scholarship. The crystal clear and remarkably close up pictures of the three hundred or more cases in Mr.Trania own passionately gathered Faberge masterworks gallery make the objects themselves almost palpable. This book is also welcome for the subsidiary essays, with the sole exception of a rather sour personal note by Mr.Traina's ex- wife, Danielle Steele. As a work of art about a long lost era of grace and elan and terrible contrasting poverty and violence, The Faberge Case makes many of the forever lost emotions and dramas come to life in a most vivid fashion.

Awesome Eye-Candy
This is a BEAUTIFUL book. The cases are works of art. It's amazing they didn't go blind making them!

A gorgeous book on a decadent subject
This sumptuous volume of amazing color photographs showcases the largest collection of Faberge cigarette cases in the world. Objects ranging in style from fokeloric or rococo to modernistic and even sexy are included in this book, pointing out that the most utilitarian object( although hardly of vital importance to the average Tsarist Russian) done by the most decadent of jewelers would be a masterpiece in miniature Mr. Faberge would be astounded at Mr.Traina's obsession with these politically incorrect objects. He would also hope that the owner of so many casas would at least be a smoker and use the casas once in a while.

EXCELLENT, CONCISE,ELEGANT Personal witness on the 12 steps
According to the publisher Fr. Fred is 50 years a jesiut priest,an a member of alcoholics anonymous for almost 40 years. This very well written{especially when you consider they are simply transcriptes of talks],clear rendering of the 12 steps. A great deal of the literature on the 12 steps takes a teacher-student dialogue approach, whereas fr. fred seems to be far more humble, and so much more effective. He breaks down each step chapter by chapetr[his 3rd step,6th and 7th are worth thr price of the book alone].His language is VERY SIMPLE AND CLEAR.I have avidly read almost everything that i can get on the 12 steps, and i agree with the previous reviewer, this is essentila, and BY FAR AND AWAY THE BEST BOOK ON THE 12 STEPs i have read.No preaching, no religion,no oldtimer nostagia[which, unfortunately clutters up some other books.}10 stars,20 stars. This is life affirming stuff.

The best book on the 12 steps i have encountered
This is a simple, brilliant explanation of the 12 steps of alcoholics anonymous.Father Fred explains the steps in clean plain prose[though the ist edition is littered with typos].His explanation of the 2nd step is particularly excellent, though after a rather slow ist step introduction, each of the steps are magnificent. Pardon the hyperbole, but this is one of the few necessary books I own. I have given out at LEAST 50 copies of this book, and I have found 1,1 person who did not find it very useful.Anyone, especially those in A. a. ,will find it 's clarity and brevity welcome. Do not be put off by the title,it is not a sectarian religious book.

This book is for anyone who is seeking wholeness.
Sometimes book titles are deceiving. For example: I am not an alcoholic, so I would not usually pick up a book that might seem to deal with that illness. The old axiom "don't judge a book by its cover" fits really well here. No one person in this world is free from problems. These may come in various packages such as addicitons, mental illness, depression, etc. However, if we strip away the outside package, the human condition is the same across the board. Pain is pain. Suffering is suffering. These need to be dealt with, and Fr. Fred's sharings on each of the 12 steps of AA is a most valuable tool to help anyone, not just those with addictions. It has helped me to look at the situations in my life squarely in the face and realize that I don't have to live with them any more. Read it. Ponder it. Read it again and again. It will become a most valuable part of your life. It will empower you to change. It will help you find wholeness.

Fighting Racism in World War II

Truth About WWII
The Truth About World War II

This is more than a story of the racist attacks-court-martials, violent mobs, lynchings-that were the real face of the U.S. "war for democracy." It's a story of how Black workers fought back (including many GIs), based on news articles from the socialist newspaper, The Militant. Learn how the "March on Washington Movement" swelled in response to Roosevelt's racist imperialist war. Glimpse the heroism of the participants in the protests and uprisings, which have been erased from the official history books. Their courage is part of the heritage of today's working class. But this book is the only place where you can find it truthfully presented.

Capitalism, racism and the living strugle for human rights
This is a wonderful collection, an essential part of the history we need to know to understand American capitalism and racism, the fight for Black liberation and equal rights, and working class struggles as a whole. The protests and campaigns described here were an essential foundation for the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, and should inspire us to continue the fight today.

Here are some 150 articles, pamphlets and political resolutions, a week-by-week account of political developments and struggles during tumultuous years of the 1940s. They come from the socialist newsweekly, the Militant, and are written by working class leaders seeking to build on the labor battles of the 1930s and to deepen the fight against racist oppression.

The articles document instances of police brutality and killings, lynch-mob murders of Blacks, and the pervasive racist discrimination in employment, housing and the military. But above all, they record, analyze and promote the fight against these conditions. The success in uniting Black and white workers to smash Henry Fords anti-union stronghold and bring the UAW to Ford Motor Co., the mass protests of the 1942 March on Washington Movement-- and the bitter opposition of the Roosevelt administration to this anti-racist movement; the 1943 Harlem rebellion against killer cops-- "A protest against intolerable conditions;" its all here to learn from and be inspired by. An extensive chronology and glossary will help today's reader understand this history all the better.

Malcolm X's of World War II
The US that waged World War II was a racist country, fighting to preserve its own ability to segregate and exploit African Americans, defending and trying to get a piece of Britain, Belgium, Holland, and France's Racist exploitation of hundreds of millions of colonial slaves, and to hold on to its oporession of Latin America and get as big a piece of China, Vietnam and other countries and Asia as they could. Could there be any wonder that at home, battles were fought by African Americans against racism, in housing, in jobs, in access to health care and education, just as they were fought before and after the war and continue to be fought. It is not wonder the SWP fighter and leader who is the principal author and editor of this book was chosen by Malcolm X 20 years later to be the person who edited and helped to publish his writings. These fighters were the Malcolm X's of their time....

Wonderful applied resource
This review refers to the first edition, which, aside from the dated computer programs used for analyses, discusses a variety of topics that are not typically covered in traditional regression texts. Especially valuable is chapter 9 which consists of a situation where using a combination of linear and nonlinear fits simultaneously, complete with both qualitative and quantitative data. A great extension past books like Draper and Smith and Myers and Montgomery.

classic practical guide to fitting regression models
This is a classic text on regression. I am only familiar with an earlier edition but I am sure the style the writing and the content has not changed significantly. This book gives good practical advice as to how to fit regression models and considers all the pitfalls that applied statisticians are faced with. Many of the issues that are raised today including problems of overfitting, multiple collinearity, outliers, diagnostic plots etc. were all considered by these applied statisticians some 30 years ago.

Extremely valuable. Covers topics left out of recent texts.
This book is a classic work in the field of data analysis which is often cited in more recent texts. In the present world of Windows, SAS, SPSS, S-Plus, etc., the pioneering work of Daniel and Wood on computer applications to data analysis looks somewhat dated. However, it will repay careful study by anyone who wants to do thorough analysis of real world data, especially manufacturing process data, because it includes topics, such as nested data sets, which are common in industrial data, but regrettably cannot be analyzed by most standard linear regression techniques as presented in more recent texts. It is a very valuable adjunct to books like Draper and Smith.

The most beautiful view of death
This is not just a kid's book, it's for anyone. Think that you - as me - don't cry too easily? Try this book. Gets me every time - in 22 pages. It just doesn't get any better than that.

If you read it enough many times, perhaps you can read it out loud to your child without becoming a wheeping willow. Then do that - they will get a different perspective on life and death.

It's a shame this book is Out of Print.

Fred
This book by Posy Simmonds is a wonderful exploration into the death, and life of a dear cat. It is written with ease, and fluidity making it a very read-able book for many ages groups. It was given to my son some years ago, and he is now 16. I asked him if we should get a copy for his little cousin's birthday, and his response was YES, it's my favorite, and I think I've read it a couple hunderd times.

This book is the cats meow!
I haven't read this book BUT I have seen a short cartoon based on it and it was very good. It's about this familly who's cat dies from CAT FLU, and , of course their very sad about it. Well, one night, the little girl hears a sound. A cat meow! She wakes up her brother and tells him, then they go dounstairs and outside to find a cat dressed in fancy close and a top hat. Ginger { the cat with the close who is from up the street} explains to the children that him and all of these other cats are there for Fred 's funeral. Then out from the house comes the familly guinea pig who says a few words about his best friend. The children then find out that Fred was a very famous cat singer and when they try to explain to every one that all Fred did was sleep, the animals didn't want to hear it. What happenes next you'll have to read for yourself! This book is really good for kids, people with animals and/or people who have lost pets. I liked FRED because it had a good ending, it was interesting and funny. Another good book is curious and comical cats.

Great recipes once past the basics
This and other Griffith books are for cooks who are past the neophyte stage and want to dine in style. If you know about Julia Child, I am sure you will approve of them. Their recipes have appeal that far transcends garlic (or onion or whatever) lovers--they are for those who appreciate imaginative food that brings delight to the dinner table.

A Great Cookbook for Garlic Lovers
Like many of my cookbooks, this was something I found on the shelf in a bookstore, looked through it, and immediately knew I had to have it.

Since then, it's received quite a bit of heavy use - there are a few certain recipes that the book falls right open to, they've been used so much. Others have yet to be tried, but they look just as delicious and appealing as others.

There is plenty of information on selecting and storing garlic, along with preparing it, and even a selection of trivia and stories, making it more than just a list of recipes using the wonderful ingredient. They also recommend some kitchen tools to make it easier to work with garlic - the garlic peeler they recommend is truly magnificent.

The recipes cover the entire range of foods, from simple appetizers and salads, to fancy main courses - to even a few desserts. I regularly hunt down new recipes I have yet to try, and have not been disappointed with any to date. And the Pork Chops with stuffing recipe in here has become my favorite method of cooking pork.

The recipes are also easy to read and follow - no confusing ingredient listings or unclear instructions.

Great recipes and fun garlic trivia
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the authors have real taste and are not merely garlic loving maniacs. Their food is very good (their Brandade was heavenly) and I really enjoyed reading the garlic trivia. This a fun, yet serious cookbook.
