General Obsession
I received this book as a gift and found it to be an exciting treasure. I don't know why this powerful, well written murder mystery which kept me absorbed and involved from beginning to end, hasn't been publicized and reviewed as such writing deserves. I recommend it highly and I plan to give copies as gifts to my reader friends who appreciate strong, interesting stories and good writing.

general obsession
This book is a real thriller. Interesting plot, great character development. A definite must read. Spread the word!

A Great Discovery
Well drawn characters with real depth, a plot that keeps moving, and a genuine mystery which outlasted my guesses. These are the ingredients of an unusually good story that defies genre. After so much dull repetition from those authors who automatically get the marketing and the best seller lists, this one is a special find. Try it and spread the word.

Thought i was through my phase on this sort of book
A fable, a modern fiction, a true story - who cares.....the real story is about you and what you can do.

Great wrap at the end. And if you can get past any nervousness you may have (like me) on the subject of unconditional faith then it's well worth reading and passing on - inspiring sounds too corny a word nowadays for what is, actually, an old fashioned book - but i've taken the day off to read it again so it must have hit me good.
Thank you Ken and Truett - i will try, hard, you have reached me.

A well-written book and very challenging to all of us
I loved reading the real-life stories of people who "made it" and then gave something back. It made me want to help people no matter what station in life I'm at. The desire to give it all - all the time comes from knowing who we are and there's an awareness deep inside that just spills over. It makes us view the world as an opportunity to care, not just a place to get mine. I think a lot of executives are missing this ingredient in their lives and this book would be of great assistance.

Excellent! Buy 25 for your friends!
Short, powerful and life-changing. If you already have a generous spirit, you'll be inspired and motivated to be more generous. If you have friends or colleagues, who, with encouragement, could begin to experience the joy of generosity--they'll never forget your help in pointing them in the right direction. I hope this is Ken Blanchard's all-time best-selling book!

The Best Antidote to Chinese Culture Shock
I have conducted college-sponsored tours of China for eighteen years. For most of that time, this little classic has had my highest recommendation as a guide to interaction with the Chinese. The author spent decades as a businessman in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China proper, and he writes with insight and humor. Though the book was produced with the businessperson in mind, for any Western visitor to China it is an excellent, amusing and effective antidote to misunderstanding and culture shock. If you are going to China, be sure to read it.

A Superb Resource in an Entertaining Form
I came to China with a university group to teach English. I am now starting an MBA program in Global Management. The first course is Cross-Cultural Communications. This book should be the book for that course. It can't be because it is too entertaining and practical, not the dry "analytical" stuff. It is too good! I bought it before coming to China and it got left behind when I came. At first, I thought I had memorized it because time after time I recognized something from the book in what I saw in China. Then I realized that it was the accuracy of the book that made it so memorable. Buy it!

timelessly wise advice universally applicable
It was my first time traveling to Hong Kong and to China. I have no business there and I have no intercourse with the Chinese outside of personal relations. I picked this book up to read on the plane. But, man! This is a very good book! Mr. Schneiter seems to have become something of a Chinese himself during the course of 30 some years in the Far East. Clearly written, with fast wit: Universally applicable advice on how to get along with the Chinese, but not only the Chinese. I would think all people who exchange one thing for another while trying to leverage the situation to one's benefit could all be "Chinese". That is, what the author has to say, would apply just as well in Washington DC, or in Moscow, or in New York. BE SMOOTH and CIVILIZED. By that he means, observe, observe, and observe the flow of things before you take calculated action. AND, always leave room for graceful improvisation. The author warns that it is always practice which will get you the art of looking gracefully impromptu. The author himself gives many examples of how he used his own advice to undo many a tight situation he found himself in. I suppose only those who have to do business with the Chinese will continue to pick this one up in Hong Kong. But this book really deserves to be read by more people. A real pleasure. I couldn't put it down.

Enchanting! A WONDERFUL book for all ages.
This book is enchanting! Although intended for children aged 9-12, it is perfect for all ages, including adult.

The book explains the concept of sharing and giving, and includes many folk tales, fables, and legends (from many countries) that stress the importance of charitable giving. If you like the Chicken Soup for the Soul types of books, you should greatly enjoy this. And you could use the folk tales as the basis for many crafts to make for yourself or for gifts (not to mention to teach children about charitable giving).

It also stresses The Giving Box, used to keep handy to put spare change in at the end of the day, to share with those less fortunate when the box is full. That would be marvelous for chidren, but is also great for anyone at any age. The book explains the Jewish tradition of this type of box, which is still used in many Jewish homes -- and how to adapt it for other faiths, since charitable giving applies to all of us.

HIGHLY recommended for people of all ages. If you've got a heart -- or need one -- this book is for you.

A lesson for all of us
Mr. Rogers, once again, offers beautiful lessons for children of all ages.

Mr. Rogers is Timeless
I grew up watching Mr. Rogers' neighborhood and now I am passing him on to my neice and nephew with The Giving Box. This adorable package comes with a little colorful tin bank and a book that talks about why we should help others. There are also cute little stories from different countries to teach kids about other cultures and traditions. A really good product to share with your kids, particularly at this time of year.

Most fun book to read on the shelf!
You'll find yourself saying "See you later Alligator" to all your work collegues and making up new rhymes with your child.

You don't need the hand puppet for this to be a fun book, so a used copy is a good bet!

Great Anytime Book
I used to read this book to my son every night about 20 times. He loved it - we used the Fred puppet to tickle him. I now use it for my daughter. It teaches about rhyming, different animals, brushing teeth, bathing and just going to bed. My son even likes to read it to my daughter. I recommend this to anyone with children 15 months to 3 years of age!

Go To Bed Fred
This is a cute story about getting ready for bed. You can use the puppet to participate with kids. The puppet is of good quality and the book is relaxing fun! The best part of the book is that it is long enough to be entertaining, but short enough that mom doesn't have to be up all night reading it!

An great source of inspiring essays and paintings.
Fred Babb's book "Go to Your Studio and Make Stuff" is an excellent source of paintings and essay about being an artist. I use them for inspiration and reflection in my classroom. I get many comments from my art students and the classroom teachers.

Excellent Poster Book for ALL of your senses!
I am seeking to purchase a second of this book to keep intact so I can use the posters in my art classroom. This book gives a whimsical, colorful, poignant, yet serious look at Art from the viewpoint of Fred Babb. The illustrations are unique and portray the attitude of the artist well. A "must have" for anyone interested in making a comment on art for adults as well as children!

Humorous, I love the writing & the full color artwork.
This book has renewed my faith in art and life. Mr. Babb has a true sense of what it takes to be an artist in this "dog eat dog world". I am praying for second book for this master of humor and insightfulness.

Going to the Hospital

EXCELLENT BOOK!!
This book is awesome!! My 3-year-old daughter LOVES it! It's very easy for her to understand, and the pictures of real kids having routine hospital things done to them is very helpful. She had a "surprise" surgery to remove a brain tumor 2 months ago and wasn't prepared for the hospital experience. When we found out she had to have another surgery, we immediately bought this book and read it 3 or 4 times a day for two weeks before her surgery. It has proven to be invaluable!!! Way to go Mister Rogers!!

A photographic summary of a trip to the hospital.
This book was wonderful in preparing my child for his trip to the hospital. It has photographs so it's realistic and makes it easier to explain what your child should expect at the hospital. It covers long-term stays at the hospital, as well as short-term stays. I highly suggest it.

Excellent Book for First-Time Hospital Visit!
This book was absolutely wonderful in preparing my 2 1/2 yr. old son to go to the hospital to have his tonsils removed. The book is filled will real-life color photographs of what to expect during a hospital stay. It really prepared my son in a realistic manner verses "cartoon" or "drawing" style books. Through the photos, he understood what a hospital room looked like, wearing a gown, getting an armband, and seeing Doctors and Nurses in their scrubs and masks. This book also pictured medical equipment used for vitals, X-rays, IVs, and lab tests. By describing the pictures to my son prior to his surgery, he was not afraid at the hospital. Additionally, this book is not directed at any particular reason for being in the hospital, but rather what to expect when you are there.

The Good News About Nutrition, Exercise & Weight Control

Featuring 102 delicious and healthy recipes
The Good News About Nutrition, Exercise & Weight Control is an outstanding, "user friendly" compendium featuring 102 delicious and healthy recipes, a 28-Day Menu Plan, a Fat & Fiber Counter, as well as a wealth of facts about high-protein/low-carb diets. Fad diets can be hazardous to good health. Here is a comprehensive, well-founded view of how lifestyle choices and patterns affect the body's natural disease prevention process. The Good News is enthusiastically recommended for anyone seeking to avoid the jeopardy inherent in fad diets and gimmicks, while needing to empower themselves and their personal health with solid, practical, basic information, advice, ideas, and recommendations.

A new lifestyle
I had heard about Dr. Stransky's book from his radio show, The Secrets to Good Health. I was visiting Michigan at the time. My mother has fought her weight for years and decided to go on the Atkins Diet. I was concerned about her health. After listening to Dr. Stransky, I decided to order his book. It is fabulous. I read it twice from cover to cover and learned so much. I gave the book to my mother and told her to read it. She did and started the 28 day plan diet he suggested. She is losing and has developed a new lifestyle that is lifelong and healthy. She knows it is going to take her several months to lose all her weight and get down to her recommended weight but she is going to Michigan and go through the Meadowbrook Health Enhancement Institute for her physical. Dr. Stransky, thank you!

Inspirational!!
Dr. Stransky's book should revolutionize the world's view of nutrition, diet, and exercise. He sheds light on the Atkins diet and nutritional supplements which have confused people and reveals many of the myths associated with such fads. He does this eloquently in a way that is easy for the general public to understand, and his work is research supported which gives him credibility. I especially liked the 10 steps to living to 100 chapter and the 28 day meal plan which gets you started on his plan without having to think! The recipes provided prove you can eat healthy without sacrificing taste. I have been a follower of Dr. Stransky's plan for years and I testify that it works...for the long term! Thank you, Dr. Stransky!!

Glorious Photos, Wonderful Book
We purchased this book as a thank-you gift for friends, and we were *delighted* with the quality and beauty of it. Truly glorious photos, not a ton of information but enough, and makes a spectacular gift. Highly recommended.

Here's a way to see America
What a treat to find Great Lodges of the National Parks! Not only is the book full of lucious color photographs of the lodges (both inside and out and every season), but historic images and architectural drawings that make you really appreciate the simple fact that they were built in the first place. You also get the full history along with a sense of what the lodges are like today written in a very accessible style. I know people who are trying to go to all of the lodges in Christine Barnes' books. I plan on beginning this summer. (The book also includes Timberline Lodge in Mt. Hood National Forest outside of Portland.)

Beautiful book with spectacular pictures!
This is a gorgeous book.
It has 192 pages--loaded with lovely glossy pictures.
Not all of these lodges, however, are located in the national parks.Timberline Lodge is in a national forest and Oregon Caves Chateau is located at a national monument.
The pictures in this book are breathtaking. Historical pictures as well as present day pictures are located in the book.
This book is VERY similar to the Great Lodges of the West book (also by Christine Barnes). Some of the EXACT same pictures that are in the Great Lodges of the West book are in this book!
But this book adds more pictures.
This one has more pages (as compared to 136 pages) and this one has more pictures. Also covered in this one is Belton Chalet and Sperry & Granite Park Chalets (which the other book doesn't cover in full detail).

16 lodges are featured:
1) Old Faithful Inn (Yellowstone National Park- Wyoming)
2) The Ahwahnee (Yosemite National Park- California)
3) Paradise Inn (Mount Rainier National Park, Washington)
4) Timberline Lodge (Mount Hood National Forest- Oregon)
5) Oregon Caves Chateau (Oregon Caves National Monument-Oregon)
6) Crater Lake Lodge (Crater Lake National Park-Oregon)
7) El Tovar (Grand Canyon National Park- South Rim)
8) Zion Park Lodge (Zion National Park)
9) Bryce Canyon Lodge (Bryce Canyon National Park)
10) Grand Canyon Lodge (Grand Canyon National Park- North Rim)
11) Glacier Park Lodge (Glacier National Park- Montana)
12) Belton Chalet (Glacier National Park)
13) Lake McDonald Lodge (Glacier National Park)
14) Many Glacier Hotel (Glacier National Park)
15) Sperry & Granite Park Chalets (Glacier National Park)
16) Prince of Wales Hotel (Waterton Lakes National Park,
Alberta, Canada)

Also in the front and back is a map that shows where these lodges are located. In the back are Preservation Resources and Travelers' Resources (websites, reservation information, etc...)
Although I didn't know that this book would be so similar to the Great Lodges of the West book--(it's just a bigger version), I do not regret buying it. I have them both and the pictures are mesmerizing.

Amazing Lodges ... amazing book
Wonderful content and photos ... I've lived and worked in Yellowstone for 20 years and had never seen the "once approved, never built" drawing of the Old Faithful Inn. have been to many of the "lodges" featured, and will use the book as inspiration to visit a few more! I've scooped up several for gift giving this holiday season.

The most appreciated book I have ever given
Give this one with a pair of airline tickets

Historians' Love "Great Lodges"
From Lee Whittlesey, Park HistorianYellowstone National Park, Wyoming: Old Faithful Inn is the first lodge featured in Great Lodges of the West. The Inn is as much a part of Yellowstone National Park as the geyser it is named after. The author covers its history and architecture and brings to life a much loved landmark. From Deirdre Shaw, CuratorGlacier National Park, Montana: Christine Barnes has pulled together some little known history about the historic lodges of Glacier National Park and the region, then spun a story history buffs and park visitors will truly enjoy. Historic photos from the park archives along with architectural drawings and color photography makes Great Lodges of the West both informative to read and beautiful to look at.From David Wark, Historic ArchitectCrater Lake Lodge rehabilitation project: Great Lodges of the West tells the important story of Oregon¹s Crater Lake Lodge. Christine Barnes informs the reader of a Lodge built on naive optimism, its deterioration, and the real threat of demolition. She then illustrates how the Lodge¹s rebirth is evidence of what citizens can accomplish when they value their architectural heritage
