An underrated gem
I had moderately high expectations for this novel and it did deliver.

Considering the time it was written (1899) "The Gentleman From Indiana" is filled with forward thinking -- diversity, condemnation of prejudice, equal rights for women. As a native Hoosier, Tarkington is clearly projecting himself through the main character, offering insight into his own passage into middle age (at the ripe old age of 30!) and uneasiness facing mortality. More subtle and slower-paced than some of his more well-know works, such as "The Magnificent Ambersons," it's definitely worth forging through. Tarkington's eloquence shines.

Great Book but could have gone a little more in depth
Not a bad book at all, but they don't go into the power user functions. I would recommend another book by ESRI for the more advanced ARCInfo user, and save your money, but if you're a beginner, it's not a bad book at all.

Funny Tarkington
This book is a short novel about the production of a play. Stewart Camby has spent the past two years writing and polishing his masterpiece. The book starts at the beginning of dress rehearsals. Camby's cast and managerial staff includes a wide variety of characters that cause ultimately Camby consternation.

For instance, the famous, lead actor Talbot Potter constantly insists that the Camby change the play to suit him. Talbot, a bachelor, is also smitten with Wanda Malone, the ingenue. He wants her part to stand out and eventually have his character fall in love with her (which mirrors his real life feelings for Wanda). Camby's once perfect play must suit Talbot's fickle tastes as Camby himself becomes infatuated with Wanda. Before the end of the book, Camby's play has changed drastically from what it used to be to hold the actor's interest.

Tarkington writes an interesting and funny look at the production of a play. The neurotic characters are a joy. However, the start of the book was a little confusing, but once the story gets rolling the characters come alive. The ending was also a surprise and made the book worthwhile.

Henry Explores the Mountians ~ Mark Taylor
This is a very adventurous book. It shows how little kids can prove themselves responsible. It shows how young children, know ho to act in scary situations. Some people have to learn that young children can be trusted, but they should be able to prove themsleves first. Sometimes young kids just want to grow up, so they wanbt to explore and learn how to do things for themselves.

I like the character Henry in this book. When Henry and his dog sent out on a journey to explore the mountians, they do not know what to expect. They have a good time exploring and take extra precautions. They meet some friendly and unfriendly characters, yet they know how to handle the situations. Henry takes controll of the bad situation and turns it into a learning experience. This book teaches a lot about how to act when on a journey. It also shows how kids get regconized for the good deeds they do.

Mind, body, and Spirit
Mind, body, and spirit are all the concern of Booth in his book about the darkness of humanity found on the east side of London and the lack of caring shown by the government as well as the churches of the day (mid 1800's).

The sensitivity to the overall needs of man comes out of Booth's love for their soul as well as their body and he does an amazing job of connecting the two. So amazing in fact that there are many establishments of higher learning that still today make it required reading for human service majors.

Booth understood back then that there are certain things about the needs of man that could not be changed by government, society, or time itself. It was this realization that caused him to put aside his desire to feed the souls of the needy until he could feed their stomachs. He was quoted once as saying 'they can't hear the gospel over the noise of their growling stomachs' (not an exact quote).

Booth had been a minister in the New Methodist Connection church in London but left when they would not allow him to minister to the needy who were so close to his heart. Ultimately he began an organization which he called the Christian Mission, we know it today as The Salvation Army, the most successful and trusted charitable organization in the world.

The book is written in the difficult style of old world English authors and may not be the easiest read, but it is well worth it to those who want to better understand both the cause of and the answer to poverty in our world.

great book for casual walker
I really enjoyed reading this book, full of wonderful descriptions of easy, scenic walks. It gives lots of arguments for why you should try walking in Britain and lots of information for how to prepare. I decided I wanted to do mostly more strenuous hikes than what's covered here, but this book was my inspiration to think about seeing Britain on foot.

Clayderman Solo's 2
This book of Clayderman contains some really nice songs. However the songs aren't very hard to play (you can learn them pretty easy), it's really a art to play it in a beautiful way. That's the nicest of these book: "Easy, so you can love hearing to your own music at once, but taking much more time to improve your quality of these songs on your piano."
