Author discription precise and delightful. Great book to cuddle up with and enjoy. Highly recommended for easy reading and for a touch of nostalgia.
However, this book is no good for people who are interested in the military aspects of Napoleon. This book is more concentrated on the personal side of Napoleon. Although it mentions basic battle plans and overall strategy, that is not the purpose of the book. If you are truly interested in his army, I suggest you read "Napoleon and his Marshalls" and the Greenwood Military volume on The Napoleonic Wars.
Napoleon has been one of the most controversial characters in History, and deservedly so. Cronin does not take sides, but he clearly rejects the portrait of Napoleon as an overambitious monster, always trying to get more and more territories for France. Undoubtedly, ambition was the driving force for this man, but we have to consider that he was constantly harassed by other powers who feared that his influence would destroy the old European regimes. Undoubtedly, his coronation as Emperor was a big disappointment to all those who believed he would be the leader of Republicanism. Beethoven, for instance, dedicated his Third Symphony to him, but after the coronation he erased the dedicatory, writing instead: "To the memory of a great man". However, we have to judge historical figures by the standards of their times, not ours.
All in all, this is probably the best biography of Napoleon. At least it is the best among the three or four I have read. It is a shame that it is out of print.
Unlike other authors, Cronin does not appear to take sides. He presents Napoleon's accomplishments as well as his faults. If you were to chose one biography of Napoleon, this should be the one!

In each of the feature film summaries, author Lucy Chase Williams not only gives us complete cast and credit listings, but also charming ancedotes provided by fellow cast members. This distinguished list includes Charlton Heston, Angela Lansbury, Jane Russell, Robert Mitchum, Gregory Peck, and many, many others.
But what really makes this book a joy for all Vincent fans is the biography. Almost everyone only thinks of Vincent Price as "that horror film actor", but he was so much more than that. Williams warmly reveals Price as the well-known, well-schooled, down-to-earth human being his fans knew him to be. We see the art lover, the fine cook, the author, the "special guest star" on HUNDREDS of television series, and... the practical joker who knew how to enjoy life and have fun.
The Complete Films of Vincent Price is a wonderful book. More appropriately, it is The COMPLETE Vincent Price. The multi-faceted gentleman everyone should get to know.

Alternately showing herself to be our big sister, best friend and cheerleader, Walker has, er, bared all in the higher interest of exposing the stigma associated with breast cancer for what it is: a killer.
But she doesn't stop there. Walker shares perhaps the most telling detail of all, that her own mother is a breast cancer survivor, and passed a steely will and hearty sense of humor on to her daughter. An inheritance that may have saved Laura's life. Discover that as one quote used in the book puts it, "Whoever is happy will make others happy too." (Anne Frank)
I'm decidedly not a crier, but I did cry through the chapter written by the author's husband. I recommend this read-it-all-in-one-sitting title for anyone with breasts.
I definitely learned things about going through breast cancer that I never knew or never heard discussed before (eg.-did you know that to reconstruct a breast post-operatively, the nipple is "tattooed" on to look more realistic?) The book has a point besides merely entertaining and enlightening. It gives the reader practical advice on how to cope and how to help those around the patient cope with the problems, life threatening decisions, and fears from being diagnosed with cancer. The chapter written by her husband as caregiver is especially memorable because you rarely hear about the man's reactions and experiences though they are clearly very affected by the ordeal of the disease when it strikes a family.
This book would make a wonderful gift for anyone who has been touched by cancer in some way. It was carefully written to entertain, but not offend, while talking about a terrible disease. And in the end, I found it very uplifting as well. Love and laughter can go a long way when left with nothing else.

In her memoir, she presents the miracle of birth and shouts aloud those things that some of our mothers could only whisper and blush about. Immersed in bodily fluids up to her elbows, Peggy checks a cervix as naturally as a mechanic checks the oil. She demonstrates that, regardless of differences in race, belief, life style, or age, birth is a celebration of life. She welcomes each new soul and stands in awe at nature's magic--birth.
The writing is warm and welcoming, with a storyteller's enthusiasm and a savvy eye for the humor and irony of every situation. Peggy crafts a must-read for every woman who ever thought about childbirth. Men will discover...they'll gain insight into the intimate world of women and the men who stand with them. A truly strong debut book that fills a remarkably empty niche on the bookshelf....
This book has stories of wonder, of grace, of sorrow, and of hope. The characters will stay with you long after you've read the last page. The dire circumstances of midwives and their careers in the United States will leave you concerned about the birthing options American women will have in the future.
I strongly encourage anyone interested in babies or birth to read this book---and if you want to be a nurse, it's a must-read!
Since I have read the book, I haven't stopped talking about it to my co-workers. In a very short time, they will be hooked too! It takes special people, and their families to really appreciate the "Birth Experience"....especially when it involves that "special pizza" and the uniqueness of that situation.
What I liked best about the book, is the Oh so spiritualness of bringing a baby into the world. How Peggy captured the wonderful journey of the mother and baby that sometimes can be so solitary, and beautiful, if the woman is allowed to do what is natural.
This book is a must read for any woman, man, child who has been gifted with the desire to share the world with the inhabitants of those who LOVE childbirth!

This book is definitely a thing of beauty and reafirms the notion that there still are some very good brothers out there. Brothers who know how to express themselves and aren't afraid to do so. Tyler brings it and brings it hard. I feel very fortunate to be asociated with a writer of such immense talent, drive and determaination. His leadership in the romantic literary arena has inspired me to complete a project of my own.
The style Tyler imparts in his writing not only complements my own, but has paved the way for myself and other writers to follow their dreams and give the world what it's been missing for a long time. Real romantic voices with soul, presence and purpose.
If you don't have this book, get it!
