Blessings from the past
A wonderfully clear presentation of the methods of Sicilian cooking through presentation of many important recipes. The author's recollections of his grandfather who taught him to cook shows the warmth, humor and culture of the Sicilians. Many of the recipes familiar in my childhood are found in this book. Now my daughter is learning one important aspect her great grandmother's culture.

I look forward to the revised edition and plan to buy several copies for friends and family.

PRIMO!
This book will bring you back to nonna's kitchen. Every recipe, so far has been excellent. With each easy to comprehend and prepare recipe, comes stories from the old country, and a few from the new. You will be very pleased with this book.

The People Management Formula
I would highly recommend that Managers read this book. It's concise, easy to read, practical and is truly a "recipe for leadership success!"

A no-nonsense guide to better relations at the office.
The People Management Formula teaches you how to improve your relations with the people you manage - and get better results for your team.
This book teaches you how to be a better listener and craft more effective solutions to office challenges. Using what I've learned, I'm already getting better feedback from my staff (and they are happier with me).
It's written in a straightforward, plain-English style that neither shows off nor talks down to the reader.
It's really a very helpful book.

Introduce your children to the wonders of aviation
Like so many of our children's favorites, this book sweeps the reader off in lilting rhyme, and is beautifully illustrated with very accurate paintings of a host of different types of aircraft: huge jets, crop dusters, commuter planes, tail draggers, etc. The book truly engenders enthusiasm and appreciation for the magic and diversity of flight. My husband and I both are pilots, and found it a wonderful way to introduce our young twins to the excitement of aviation. My only reservation is that the illustrations depict male pilots only!

Plane Song Soars!
After having enjoyed sharing Train Song, by Diane Siebert, with both my toddler and my husband, I looked forward to reading Plane Song. Siebert delivers again with Plane Song! Words take flight in fanciful form, illustrating through language the poetry of planes in flight. The beautiful paintings by Vincent Nasta stir the imagination of readers young and old. Because of the perspective of each painting, the reader feels as if they are flying, too. From jet planes to bombers, fire-fighters to bush planes, crop dusters to "rag bags," the lyrical sound of Siebert's words read aloud invites readers to "spread their wings in flight." Plane Song is an excellent choice for young readers or plane fanciers.

Power of Life or Death

Interesting
This book contains many life and death issues. One of which I was very much interested in, which was about the murder of my father who was a police office and shot in line of duty. He quotes my granddmothers letters to him, as well as discribes parts of the trial. Although I never new Mr. DiSalle, I think that his book is a book for people to read. You can make up your own decision on capital punishment after reading it.

One Governor's story about the Death Penalty
This book contains a tremendously personalized account of the people whose crimes put their lives in the hands of the governor of Ohio. Not only does Governor DiSalle give us the stories of the criminals, he gives us his story as it relates to each of these individuals. DiSalle writes with true humanity on all of the men and women whose clemecy cases came to his desk. This is an intensely personal story of a governor opposed to capital punishment, but compelled in some cases to carry it out by his belief in following the laws he was sworn to uphold. Although these are stories from 40 years ago, the book is so well written that the time frame in which the author wrote becomes irrelevant. As a college instructor, I will be including this book in courses that deal with the death penalty. For anyone else interested in the abolition of the death penalty, this book is a must read

Love and Kindness to Reader
With the exception of his most noted work, The Art of Thinking, Professor Ruggiero produced his best work with The Practice of Loving Kindness. This book is not limited to academe, but rather applies to every human being who seeks the virtue of loving and being loved through their thoughts and actions.

The book is short, but powerpacked with mini-stories that point out many types of loving kindness. This book is an easy read, but truly thought-provoking.

A Better Way to Live
For almost half a century,self-improvement books have been more about loving oneself than loving others. This book is a welcome change. What's more, it doesn't just talk about loving kindness. It shows how to practice it in thoughts, words, deeds, and even in silence. And it's filled with inspiring examples. After reading this book, I feel more hopeful for the world and more committed to the ideal of loving kindness.

Great investigative tool!
Written by a private investigator, this book explains how members of that occupation go about obtaining information on people from public records. Using a simple, straightforward style, Parco aims to show how anyone, professional or amateur, can track down information if he or she knows where to look and is persistent. Although he does not go into a great deal of depth, Parco does provide a good introductory text for someone wanting to pursue this type of research or investigation. His book does not contain the large number of names and addresses found in Joseph J. Culligan's You, Too, Can Find Anybody (Hallmark Pr., 1994), but it is more informative about procedures. The two books thus supplement each other.

great investigative tool!
As someone who has worked in the criminal justice system doing investigations for many years, and now looking towards the private sector to become an independent investigator, this is one of those must-have books to keep in your own library, not to mention the paperback price is very reasonable and affordable.

The Romance Languages

review of "The Romance Languages"
This book offers an incredible comparison and representation of the romance languages. It discusses their similarities and individual characteristics. I recommend it not only for all students of the any romance languages but for anybody looking for an in-dept look at the grammar and developement of the romance languages from their "parent language" latin! This truly is a great book!

An excellent reference to the romance languages
This is an excellent book for either the interested layman or the refined linguist concerning the romance languages (more than the typial five, incidentally). The included languages are: Latin, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Catalan, Occitan, Rhaeto-Romance and Sardinian, with another chapter about various romance-based creoles and pidgins. Within each chapter, there is a section on phonology, morphology, syntax and lexicon. There are also interesting charts and maps, contrasting different features of the different languages.

The tone of the book is serious and academic, although the language is not so erudite that a hobby-linguist (like myself) cannot understand it. The five "standard" romance languages in the book also feature in Bernard Comrie's "The World's Major Languages", to which this book is best described as a supplement (it's the same publishing company and features many of the same writers), although these five have approximately twice as much treatment as they do in the latter book, albeit some of the text is lifted directly from "Major Languages". The tone and "feel" of the entries here are identical to those of "Major Languages", incidentally, so if you are familiar with that book you will instantly be comfortable with this one.

One feature that I appreciated was the many comparisons drawn between the various languages, with all of the shifts in phonology, morphology and syntax explained and contrasted. For example, if you have ever wondered why many words in French that begin with "f-" have a corresponding word in Spanish that begins with "h-", this is explained as are all other issues of this sort.

All in all, an excellent book for anyone interested in the romance languages.

Seeking The High Yellow Note
What a glorious treat of Provence through the eyes of an impressionist young girl and her friendship with Vincent Van Gogh. This is such a cleverly crafted story that one has to continually remind one's self that it is a fictionalized account
of Van Gogh. I felt "bathed" in the yellows of his paintings and the countryside of Provence and was grateful to have a porfolio available to see the accuracy of this writer's descriptions. Bravo, Alice. Give us more of the same quality of writing.

Seeking the High Yellow Note
For those who are passionate about Vincent Van Gogh, "Seeking the High Yellow Note" is a treat to be savored. Curl up with it by a window seat looking out at trees and gardens and imagine the colors and forms as Van Gogh would have seen them. Alice Williams paints the artist's canvasses again in words as Vincent describes the paintings to his young friend Minette. The author has captured the spirit of the impressionists and the flavors of Provence and of the time. She describes Vincent's loneliness and failed friendship with Gauguin, and his dread of recurrent descents into madness. The events of his months in Provence are interwoven into the story of Minette Ginoux as she comes of age, finds love, marries her sweetheart and provides friendship to the man who was a tortured genius.

This book is truly packed with so much helpful information. Don't let the size of the book fool you. Although it is pocket size, it is jampacked with so many lessons for all to lead their life by. I often refer to this book when lost or confused. I just can't seem to keep a copy for myself!

Excellent for everyone
