The Power of Positive Thinking
It was the most inspirational book I have ever read. Norman has such a way with drawing the reader in the most honest and loveable way I just couldn't put the book down. I also recommended the book to many of my friends who needed to change the way thier life was going, especially the way they were thinking. I want most desperately to get my husband to read the book so he can experience what I did whilst reading his work. The techniques he uses are fantastic, but my husband doesn't read English,he can only read Greek. Please help me in finding a Greek copy. Then we can use our mind powers together and he'd understand what I've been trying to explain to him all along.

A great book to use a part of goalsetting, and meditation.
This is a great audio tape, I use it as a part of my goalsetting, and meditation. It is a great tool for relaxing, and riding yourself of the stresses in today's life. No wonder, it has been reprinted so many times.

Great pics /cool rhymes
My little son loves this book...the authors have successfully chosen pictures and written wonderful poems for each picture that tell a story throughout the book. I find the poems great because they aren't the usual baby drivel and the meter of them is soft and lilting...perfect for bedtime! We also bought the matisse story (the van gogh is a little bit better) but both are great...looking for more!

Great Kid's Book
The author's have taken Van Gough's best and put together a rhyming book about the garden. The rhyme isn't easy but the cardboard backing and the bright photos are perfect for a toddler/new-born.

Incredible Short Story Compilation!
Vincent Sperando's short story compilation, "It Happens To Them Sometimes and Other Stories" show's a mastery of story telling in the arena of shorts. Not only did I love these poignant and touching stories, but I was so moved, I bought copies for family and friends.

In the age of book length fiction, short stories are too often overlooked. If you are a fan of short stories or have never considered picking a collection up, I strongly reccomend Sperando's "It Happens to Them Sometimes and Other Stories."

You will not be dissapointed! Bravo and Five Stars for Mr. Sperando.

A literary delight - Insightful, intelligent and imaginative
I found Sperando's collection of short stories to be an insightful, intelligent and imaginatively written exploration of the individual's place in society. His main characters are all a little out of the ordinary - some would say eccentric - and, when faced with the pressures of their everyday lives, they end up in situations that are often both humerous and tragic. Sperando seems to have drawn a lot from his italian heritage - many of the stories focus on italian american characters and with his descriptions of their families, communities and traditions, you feel like you can taste the pasta! My favorite story, though, is about Ursula Botero, an extremely fat brazilian woman living in New York. Ursula decides, after re-evaluating her friendless life, to live in the nude. She becomes instantly popular after the novelty of her lifestyle is discovered by the New York Times, but she eventually discovers true friendship in people who like her for who she is rather than what she looks like. The story is gently funny but at the same time exposes society's pressure to conform to trends. The book is published by a very small press and perhaps this is why it has as yet received little in the way of formal book reviews. Why is such a great book not on the best seller list?! I've given the book as a present to all my friends and they've all enjoyed it as much as I have.

Excellent but wrongly credited
I am very disappointed and angry that a book published in 1984 by Vincent T. Covello and Yuji Yoshimura as co authors should now, since Mr Yoshimura has died and cannot comment, is describing Mr Yoshimura as a mere contributor. We all know that the Yoshimura name sold the book!

This is the "bible" for this interesting Japanese art form.
You will never look at rocks the same after reading this book.

Mr. Yoshimura and Dr. Covello provide all the basics of viewing stone development, preparation and appreciation. All material is well-written and presented in an easy-to-understand method that makes one want to begin this art immediately.

The best piece of science fiction ever writen
I read this masterpiece while serving in south eastaisia in 1970 28 years later it still haunts me with its vived portraill of a planet enslaved from the frozen waist of the northern continet through the mutated men and women enslaved to the living wall deviding the planet at is equater the hunt in the well for the super brain to that moment on the last page when you learn the the name of the alien race that has done all the damage and the hero is in the forgoten cavern with all the old missels and is about to lite that last candle to start a chain reaction the action never stops a thriller that binds the minds eye to the pages to the last minute.

A book still ahead of it's time....
Light a Last Candle By Vincent King. The term classic SCI-FI is often used to discribe the great Techniques used in this genre during the 50's and early 60's.Light a Last Candle is a classic in this manner but it also punches the reader with a hypnotic blend of action and the bazarre in a way i have never seen equaled in any other work of fiction. Literally , by the end of the first page you will find yourself hopelessly involved with the cynical hero and his resigned sence of humour, the atmosphere created by Mr King will surround you with a literal fog of inventive creations and his observations of the most ridiculious aspects of human nature will make you gasp with a delicious horror at the depths humanity allows itself to plunge if thats what it takes to remain popular. Still ahead of it's time.... Beyond the ability of most actors to convey....( Maybe Richard E. Grant?) Utterly brillient.

Comments from Focus Magazine, Greensburg Tribune Review
Though the Jewish population of Westmoreland County is spread more thinly than it would be in Brooklyn or Miami Beach, anthropologist Mark Gruber sees the same themes repeated here he would associate with large Jewish settlements in urban areas -- themes that include "skills on how to live as a minority and how to do so with a dignified and decent kind of life. How to cope with the pressures of people who are anti-Semitic or who are ignorant. I just see such a marvelous ethnic heritage being passed on," he said. "I am strangely proud to be a son of the soil from which these storytelles have come," writes Gruber, a Benedictine monk, in his introductory notes to the book. "My people also figure in this narrative: we are `bit players' in their drama."

Substance of the book: Comments by Diane McMullin
The subjects of the book range in age from their 50s to their 90s, representing the collective experience of several generations who arrived in Westmoreland County in three distinct waves: during the Civil War, at the turn of the 20th century and as mid-century refugees. Mostly of Russian and Lithuanian descent, they built several communities clustered around synagogues in Greensburg, Jeannette, Latrobe and Mount Pleasant. Many of the original settlers were Pittsburgh based peddlers who sought customers among the county's coal miners and farmers. They went on to develop a number of well-known mercantile fortunes. They took active roles in the civic organizations of the wider community. Most individual accounts reflect a common lifestyle built around Judaic law and tradition: the temple as central institution; the family name as sacrosanct; the male as leader and provider. Education, often not far below having food on the table and clothes to wear, was a paramount goal.----Diane McMullin, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh East, Wednesday, November 12, 1997

Inspirational Myths for Personal Growth
I heartily recommend this book! The authors' clear and concise retelling of the myths is worth the price of the book alone. In college, I was befuddled by Edith Hamilton's approach.

As a practitioner faculty at the University of Phoenix, I facilitate discussions of literary works in terms of what we can learn about ourselves. For example, I ask my students, "How can we apply the lessons learned in Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House to our own lives?

For those of you who may be concerned that myths are about religion, faith, and worship--they are not! We would no more worship Nora in A Doll's House than we would worship Heracles in "The Labors of Heracles." (Chapter 6) However, both characters serve as inspirational models to live by.

Therefore, I am pleased that the authors take a secular approach with the myths. First, they provide us insights as to how we can apply these highly imaginative Greek myths to our own lives. Secondly, they provide us with activities to heighten our self-awareness and with relevant, thought-provoking questions so we can "live the myths." Thirdly, in the appendices, they give us other excellent resources (models, etc.) to heighten our self- awareness and, dare I say it, to improve our character.

Live the Myth! gives us much food for thought and growth.

Engaging & challenging book
"Live the Myth!" is an engaging, easy to read, yet challenging book. It is suitable for individuals to absorb to gain wisdom from the application of metaphors, but is particularly applicable for group study in a classroom setting. The book is appropriate for those who know nothing about myths as it provides the reader with background on the role of myths in the first 2 chapters and the appendices provide sufficient reference information to help the novice mythologist. Those 2 chapters and the appendices also provides the readers with a strong background in mythology a brief review and introduction to the rest of the treatise. The organization of the chapters in which each presents a discourse on one of the 16 myths provides the reader with activities and discussion questions to lead the reader into practical application of the metaphors of each myth to everyday life. I highly recommend this book.

A Wake-Up Call: Christians Challeged to Re-examine History
"History can provide us with painful, though necessary, lessons that will help us come to better understand why the dominant religious cultures of North America have often failed tragically to listen with a nonpatronizing and open heart and mind to the story of Native Americans. Well-written history can bring us to our senses. Fr. Vincent J. McNallly, professor of church history at Sacred Heart School of Theology, near Milwaukee, offers such history. It is a strongly critical but generally objective account of a missionary order's long-term relationship with the Native people of British Columbia....His account, however, is prototypical of the missionary story in many other places. Its lessons are timely and serve to illuminate a wide ecumenical audience....Many remain in denial, even today, of the truth and the serious damage that actually resulted. It is clear that McNally has an honorable and constructive purpose. He strongly affirms Christian faith and evangelization. Yet, he believes Christians must come to terms with their missionary history. The church needs to own its mistakes, learn from them and undertake reconcilation, renewal and healing with those who were so often misunderstood and hurt. McNally's book provides...an important and serious wake-up call...To read this book is to be confronted with a reality, shorn of propaganda and pious sentiment, that is both a bitter pill and a harbinger of hope....Pope John Paul recently reminded all Catholics that "grave forms of injustice" have been done in the church's past in the name of the gospel of Jesus Christ....Bigotry and hate, narrowness and intolerance, have more often been reflected in the missions than a gospel message of radical inclusiveness. The gospel, not the institutional church, is central to the Christian message. It is time to make amends and to begin anew." Reviewed by The Rev. Wayne A. Holst, lecturer in religion and culture at the University of Calgary in the "National Catholic Reporter" Sping Books section, February 2, 2001, p. 38.

Especially good on Native people
Comprehensive, candid and critical-McNally's coverage of Catholic Missions and churches in British Columbia is both insightful and wide-ranging. His treatment of the motives, methods, and impact of the missionaries' residential schools on First Nations children and communities is especially good.

Lustron Homes: The History of a Postwar Prefabricated Housing Experiment

Great Book
This makes a great coffee table book for my Lustron Home.

Informative & Interesting
This is definitely a "niche" book...one would probably either need to have a direct interest in the Lustron home or have an interest in researching American housing types. I fall into the category of one who is interested in the Lustron home. My husband & I are in the process of purchasing a Lustron home...until about a month ago we had never even heard the word "Lustron". This book has proven to be highly enlightening & has allowed us to make an informed purchase.

I found it to be not only informative but also quite interesting reading. Mr. Fetters' extensive research allowed him to include many tidbits of information that made the story of the Lustron Company come to life. It is a somewhat bittersweet story; Mr. Fetters gives just due to a product that was years ahead of its time.

My mother read this book to me when it first came out. I thought it was good then and now I am reading it to my children. I LOVE Joy Buba's illistrations. She really makes the book come alive for me. I will always cherish my memories of her and I will pass on the love of this book to the rest of my family.

The book is great, even if you dont have NE intrest in horses
I never had any intrest in horses or the west and i despise western music...which has nothing to do with the book, i thought it would stink but once i read it , it was way better than i predicted it to be..dont be pessimistic! read it!
