Really gets kids started
I bought this book for my son over 25 years ago on the recommendation of a bookseller, who had to find it in the store and call me to come and buy it. My six year old (at the time) simply read the book and UNDERSTOOD chess immediately. He beat adults within about a month. The book has different games to show the movement and strategies for each piece. It's fabulous! I wish the publisher would print it again. For now, I'm trying to buy it "used" for my niece.

Plains Indian tale for young and old
Combines learning about the Plain Indians with an exciting tale. A great motivator for young boys. I have used it in my classroom and the students are captured in its exciting tale. They never realize they are learning some very factual information on life of the Plains Indian. Great story for young and old alike. Would make a great movie!

The Human Side of Lincoln
For the first time, I came to know Lincoln not as an iconified hero, but as a funny, direct, engaging and committed human being as I read this book. The author has thorough notes of very detailed research and tells a story that others omitted or overlooked. It made me want to read much more about Lincoln, especially more of the piercing wit and emotional perseverance shared in this book.

An exciting, down-to-earth book!
Kudos for Dale Seymour Publications for their Rivers: Earth Science book, part of the Rivers Curriculum Project. The introduction is great reading on its own and the web site located there is a treasure trove of support. The nine lessons in this great book are based on a well-sequenced hierarchy of skills that culminates in a study that brings it all together for rumination and action. Included in the chapters are neat marginal entries called 'Driftwood', information and anecdotes that are mini-lessons in themselves. The reading level seems to be slightly above those of a newspaper but technically oriented in a delightful way. The math, as it progresses, is informative, interest-generating, and presents itself as a realworld application with satisfying, digestible results! There are many charts, diagrams, and support graphics that make this book highly modifiable. I would suggest this series be utilized in the upper middle to high school science classroom. This is altogether a very readable, motivating earth science teaching tool. Blue ribbons to its authors!

Indy and his father and mother go to Egypt in 1908 and meet T.E. Lawrence or Lawrence of Arabia. They all go on an expadition and find the tomb of Kah and when the man responsable for guarding the tomb dies, Indy fears the curse of the mummy's tomb has come true. You, dear reader, will be taken on adventure to the Pyramids and you will meat some facinating people along the way.
